| BH 93-96 (4/2021): A perfumed, cool, and intensely floral and red berry-suffused nose is also exuberantly spicy. There is better mid-palate density to the rich and generously proportioned flavors that retain a lovely sense of delineation on the superbly complex, persistent, and balanced finale. This is potentially a great Champans in the making though one that is going to require extended keeping before we find out. Drink 2034+. |

WA 92-94 (1/2021): Offering up lovely aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, orange rind, raw cocoa and spices, the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet is medium to full-bodied, bright and mineral, with a firmer, more tightly wound profile than the gourmand, enveloping Clos des Angles, concluding with a saline finish. It's a touch more refined and ethereal than the 2018, but like that wine, it's built to age.
VM 91-93 (12/2020): The 2019 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru (an anomaly since most producers label as "Les Fremiets") is very engaging on the nose with beautiful potpourri and rose petal infused red fruit that is very well defined. The palate is well balanced with succulent red cherries, cranberry and strawberry. There is a spiciness here that becomes more pronounced towards the finish with white pepper and clove, leaving the mouth tingling long after this Fremiet has departed. Excellent. (Drink between 2023-2040). Neal Martin.
BH 91-93 (4/2021): A touch of menthol is present on the slightly riper nose that displays notes of plum, violet and anise. There is good refinement here as well though it's coupled with ample punch and minerality, all wrapped in an impressively long, focused and relatively powerful finish. At least some patience strongly advised. (Drink starting 2029). |

Very perfumed and floral scents on the nose, dark cherries, bergamot, damp earth and touches of clove, later hints of violet and blood orange (traits that I observed out of barrel). This is nicely detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, fine acidity, lightly spiced with a classy espresso-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. Neal Martin. |

| VM 89 (12/2023): The 2019 Beaune Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus 1er Cru has a much more understated bouquet—low-key and more tertiary in style, with finely-delineated dark cherries and hints of bergamot tea mixed with bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins. Quite a polished Beaune Grèves, there is a sumptuousness to this wine with a lightly spiced finish, though it doesn't quite have the complexity or mineralité of its peers. I've had better bottles. VM 90-92 (12/2020): The 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses Ile de Vergelesses 1er Cru was more muted on the nose, dark berry fruit mingling with autumn leaves and earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins on the entry. This has more substance than the preceding Savigny Les Lavières, and more grip, with subtle mushroom notes combining with red fruit on the finish. This should drink well over the next 10–12 years. VM 94 (12/2023): The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet. The oak is better integrated than Gouges's Les Saint-Georges, hence there is superior delineation and more typicité and brightness. The palate is velvety smooth with fine acidity. There is a veneer of new oak (François Frères?) that needs to be assimilated, though it has panache, and there is admirable persistence on the finish. Again, like many of its peers in the northerly part of the appellation, there is an opulence that might be off-putting for those seeking "classic Burgundy,” but it is undeniably well balanced and seductive. BH 94 (1/2022): A brooding and reticent nose possesses moderately deeply pitched aromas of plum and red and black cherry liqueur laced with plenty of spice, earth and humus influences. The broad-shouldered, powerful and overtly muscular flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm tannic spine shaping the hugely long and remarkably complex finale. As is usually the case, this is no model of refinement, but it is a genuine 'wow' wine, provided you have the wherewithal to cellar it for the 20+ years it's going to need. Even if you don't, it's still a most impressive force of nature! (Drink starting 2036).
WA 93-95 (1/2021): The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains opens in the glass with notes of plums, dark berry fruit and cassis mingled with aromas of espresso roast, dark chocolate, rich soil tones and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, it's built around chalky tannins and lively acids. As usual, this is the most overtly built for the long haul of all Chevillon's wines, and it will require the most patience. |

BH 90-92 (1/2021): This is also quite firmly reduced and unreadable at present. Otherwise there is equally good energy and delineation to the slightly more refined though still dense and muscular medium-bodied flavors that possess just a bit more depth on the similar finish that is muscular, serious and youthfully austere if not especially rustic. VM 94-96 (12/2020): The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a very well-defined, complex bouquet that puts the preceding Les Vaucrains in its place. Here there is clearly greater focus and terroir expression, subtle sous-bois scents permeating the black and red fruit. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, seamlessly integrated new oak and a silky-smooth finish exerting judicious grip. Very classy. Neal Martin.
BH 91-94 (1/2021): Here too there is just enough wood to mention on the equally ripe liqueur-like aromas of red and dark berries, spice and pungent earth scents. The slightly sleeker and tautly muscular flavors aren't quite as big-bodied though there is plenty of size and weight to them while complementing the structured, serious and mineral-driven finale. This too will require extended patience if you wish to see it at its apogee. Drink 2036+. |

There is a lovely texture to the otherwise reasonably concentrated and moderately powerful flavors that also coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also helps partially buffer the solidly firm and slightly raspy tannic spine shaping the austere, mildly warm and compact finale. This is clearly going to require time to reach its full potential though it's not so structured that it couldn't be approached after 6 to 8 years. Drink 2031+. |

A riper and more restrained nose requires some swirling to reveal its aromas of plum liqueur, blue berry, earth and a more restricted range of spice elements. The bigger and richer flavors possess an opulent richness and a velvety texture that coats the palate and enrobes the firmer tannic spine shaping the powerful, tautly muscular and strikingly persistent finale. This offers a completely different expression compared to the Amoureuses but one that is equally interesting. This too possesses superb development potential though patience definitely advised.
