WA 94 (2/2014): The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux has a hint of savory meat infusing the dark red berry fruit profile: pomegranate, cranberry and a sprig of bay leaf. This is very complex. The palate is medium-bodied with a mineral-rich entry, wonderful acidity and a long shimmering finish with brilliant tension. This regal 2011 should drink well over the next 15 to 20 years. Drink 2015-2028.
VM 91-93 (2/2013): (30% new oak): Bright red with ruby highlights. Highly perfumed nose offers scents of dark cherry, spices, flowers and pepper; a bit less black in character than the Evocelles. Dense, suave and light on its feet, with nicely integrated acidity providing excellent balance. Gentle extraction here has given this wine considerable early appeal. A superb example from this cool terroir, which features humid clay-rich soil.
BH 90 (1/2014): (also from 60 to 70 year old vines). This is notably more complex than the preceding two wines with its slightly sauvage array of red and dark berries, earth and plenty of underbrush and herbal tea nuances that are trimmed in noticeable wood. There is good punch and lovely precision to the supple and round medium-bodied flavors that firm up quickly on the balanced and attractively lingering finish where a mild touch of rusticity surfaces. The supporting tannins are ripe and well-integrated and this should age well. Drink 2021+. |

| BH 89-92 (1/2011): (from vines averaging between 60 and 70 years of age.) A subtle application of wood sets off black and purple fruit aromas, in particular plum, as well as notes of spice and stone, both of which can be found on the rich, intense and palate soaking flavors that also abound with extract. Between the ripeness and the ample extract this could easily be top heavy but in fact there is excellent focus and balance. Villages level wines are rarely found at this quality level. Drink 2015+. Outstanding! |

WA 92 (2/2014): The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a complex bouquet: deep broody dark fruit, cold flint, undergrowth, hints of wild mushroom furnishing the aromatics. The palate is silky smooth with supple tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and a sensual, smooth raspberry and wild strawberry finish that is more like a 2012 than 2011. This is just divine - one of the best village crus you will track down in this vintage. Drink now-2024.
BH 89 (1/2014): (from vines averaging between 60 and 70 years of age). Here too there is a touch of wood spice to the compositionally similar if slightly riper and more complex nose. There is excellent underlying tension to the delicious and solidly complex flavors that possess very ripe if firm tannins that impart a slightly chewy texture to the serious but not particularly rustic finish. Note there is a trace of backend dryness that my score assumes is due to the recent bottling as the underlying phenolics appear to be quite ripe. Drink 2018+. Outstanding!
VM 88-91 (2/2013): Good deep red with ruby highlights. Lovely violet lift to the pure aromas of black cherry, blackberry, pepper and spices. Nicely concentrated and expressive, showing a distinctly savory quality to its griotte cherry and licorice flavors. Finishes longer than the Cote de Nuits-Villages, and with more obvious oak tannins too. Built to age. |

There is enough wood to be easily perceptible though not so much as to impede an appreciation of the spicy dark berry fruit, earth and underbrush suffused nose. The seductively textured medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety mouth feel thanks to the abundance of palate coating dry extract that also does a fine job of buffering the moderately firm tannic spine on the ever-so-slightly rustic finish. A fine Gevrey villages. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

| BH 89-92 (1/2015): ( from vines averaging between 60 and 70 years of age located in Les Champs Perriers, En Deree, Sylvie, Les Jeunes Rois, La Justice, La Burie and La Platière.) A discreet application of wood intertwines with notes of black cherry, earth, humus and a hint of the sauvage. This is also quite lush though with more evident muscle to the medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by firmer and more prominent tannins on the balanced and lingering finish. This too delivers excellent quality for its level and will also drink well young if desired. Drink 2021+. Outstanding Top Value! |

WA 91 (1/2020): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is also showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, plums and cherries mingled with sweet soil tones, grilled meats and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and textural, with a velvety attack, lovely purity of fruit and a long, precise finish.
BH 89-91 (1/2019): Soft wood sets off the pretty and ultra-fresh aromas of dark currant, spice and distinct earth scents. The sleek and very rich medium weight flavors possess a caressing yet powerful mouthfeel, all wrapped in a saline-inflected finish that offers very fine depth and persistence. This should drink well young but have no problem rewarding mid-term cellaring. (Drink starting 2025)
VM 90-92 (1/2019): Matured in around 50% new oak, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has (another) gorgeous and pure bouquet with small dark cherries, raspberry preserve and subtle violet notes. The new oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red and black fruit, lightly spiced with a slightly confit-like finish. Divine. Neal Martin. |

WA 90-92 (1/2020): The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes soars from the glass with a rich bouquet of cassis, plums and dark berries mingled with notes of rose petal, loamy soil and grilled meats. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and sapid, with fine concentration, ripe tannins and an expansive finish. Broader and more muscular by comparison with the finer-boned, more incisive Evocelles, this is a classic expression of Gevrey-Chambertin.
BH 89-91 (1/2020): This is aromatically similar to the Côte de Nuits-Villages except that the sauvage component is even more prominent. The solidly constituted medium-bodied flavors possess an interesting mouthfeel in that it's at once caressing yet markedly powerful, all wrapped in a mildly warm finale. The tannins are firm but well-buffered and this could be enjoyed on the younger side if that's your preference. (Drink starting 2026)
VM 89-91 (1/2020): The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes sees 40% new oak. It has a beautifully defined bouquet of pure raspberry preserve, cranberry and floral scents that unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a citrus-fresh opening and marmalade and tangerine notes infusing the red fruit. The pretty, very expressive finish maybe just misses the depth of, say, the 2016. Still, this is a lovely wine. Neal Martin. |
