| BH 91-94 (1/2016): (from 3 different parcels, one at the bottom and two at the top but on opposite sides.) A gentle application of wood sets off the intensely earthy dark currant and slightly gamy aromas. This resembles the Malconsorts in terms of its robust muscularity on the broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent punch while delivering a touch of animale character on the youthfully austere and persistent finish. This isn't a wine of finesse but it is impressively scaled and clearly built-to-age. Drink 2026+. |

| BH 91 (1/2003): Even riper and bigger than the 2000 with better oak integration. The flavors are extremely rich and ripe, with roasted, chocolate notes and relatively fine tannins. This is sneaky long with unexpectedly good intensity and though it is presently not as complex as either the 2000 or the 2001, this should come with time. Drink 2009-2015. |

WA 97 (9/2016): Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru has a backward and broody bouquet, very complex with hints of woodland, damp earth and fern filtering through the tightly wound red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and very fine, almost filigree tannins. The acidity is beautifully judged here -- very focused and refined, seamless towards the sophisticated finish. This is one of the best vintages of La Grand Rue that I have tasted, which is a considerable achievement given that this was not an exemplary growing season.
WS 93 (7/2016): Pure, boasting cherry, raspberry, spice and mineral aromas and flavors. Features a dense structure, ending with a chalky feel. Shows excellent length and balance. Best from 2018 through 2032. 500 cases made. |

BH 95 (1/2017): Here there is less wood in evidence but also noticeably better complexity to the exceptionally spicy nose of plum, earth, Asian-style tea and pronounced floral scents. This is really quite refined as the caressing mid-palate is pure silk which contributes significantly to the sense of elegance of the medium weight flavors that are blessed with very fine concentration as well as plenty of palate coating dry extract on the markedly firm but not hard finale. This impeccably well-balanced effort should amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2029+.
WA 93-95 (12/2015): The 2014 La Grande Rue Grand Cru has a wonderful bouquet similar to the Grands Echezeaux, though at the moment albeit without the same degree of complexity. Perhaps this is just more backward at the moment. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, nicely structured, perhaps just a little more conservative than the Grands Echezeaux, but maybe that means it will offer more once in bottle. One has the sense of a La Grande Rue just biding its time. Hopefully one day I will find out its qualities once in bottle. |

| BH 93 (1/2013): A restrained and discreetly spiced nose features ripe plum and black berry liqueur aromas that precede the broad-scaled, rich and intense flavors that evidence a sleek muscularity on the long and quite punchy finish. Like any number of prior wines, the flavors and finish are underpinned by extremely fine-grained but dense tannins and while this remains a powerful wine, it is relatively sophisticated by the typical standards of Malconsorts. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |
