BH 95 (5/2011): As is typically the case, this is earthier and much more sauvage than the Bressandes though it retains good freshness and pinot noir character. The nose speaks primarily of plum and floral aromas that are in keeping with the sappy, rich, powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that drench the palate with dry extract on the very firmly structured and hugely long finish. This should be a great wine in time. Drink 2027+. WA 95 (5/2011): The 2009 Corton Clos du Roi reveals superb aromatic complexity and delineation, with expressive floral scents that are woven into the fruit. This is intense and powerful, but also marvelously elegant. It is a wine for those who can afford to be patient. The higher altitude of this site helped preserve a measure of freshness, which was quite welcome in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2029-2049. |

BH 94 (4/2012): This is much more animale in character than the Bressandes with a somber if highly complex nose featuring dark berry fruit, stone, earth and underbrush nuances. There is an overt muscularity to the big-bodied, intense and robust flavors that possess a most admirable amount of structure-buffering dry extract that imparts a velvety texture to the borderline chewy and terrifically persistent finish. A classic Clos du Roi that is built for the long-term. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 92-95 (2/2012): Bright ruby red. Perfumed, high-pitched aromas of cherry, minerals, spices and licorice: Cellarmaster Christophe Bouillot describes this as the domain's "upstairs Corton," while the Bressandes is their downstairs version. Precise and fine-grained in the mouth, with lovely mineral and violet high notes lifting the black cherry and licorice flavors. Really saturates the palate without leaving any impression of undue weight. Very long on the aftertaste. |

VM 93+ (3/2015): Bright red. Slightly high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry and smoky, soil-inflected minerals. Densely packed and extremely young, boasting impressive thickness to its black fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Real grand cru size here, as well as energy. Saturates the palate on the very long, ripely tannic back end. This one calls for patience. BH 92 (4/2014): A more deeply pitched and overtly sauvage nose displays notes of iron-infused earth along with ripe and fresh dark currant and cassis aromas. There is excellent size, weight, power and concentration to the big-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the intensely mineral-infused finish where a touch of wood surfaces. This is a substantial wine even by the outsized standards of a fine Clos du Roi. Drink 2024+. WA 90 (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Clos du Roi from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is showing a fair amount of new oak on the nose that needs another couple of years to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with a strong saline entry, rounded in the mouth with plenty of extraction, though it requires more detail, more tension on the finish. It just seems rather heavy-handed at the moment although I suspect it will repay cellaring as that carapace of oak melts away. |

VM 92+ (3/2013): Bright, full red. Complex, expressive aromas of black cherry, mocha, game, underbrush, coffee and chicory. Sweet, rich and smooth, showing more verve to its red fruit and game flavors than the nose suggests. Spreads out impressively on the back end, coating the palate with serious, horizontal tannins. Very successful, long, perfumed Pommard. Stephen Tanzer. BH 92 (4/2012): A more deeply pitched nose of pungent earth, stone, spice and ripe red berry fruit liqueur aromas introduces rich, suave and well-concentrated flavors that for all of the density don't lose their delineation on the mouth coating, balanced and remarkably persistent finish. The supporting tannins are dusty but ripe and the mouth feel is more sophisticated than usual. Drink 2022+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| VM 91-93 (1/2012): Good ruby-red. Blackberry and chocolate on the nose and palate. Sweet, lush and pure, combining a rather gentle texture and very good lift. Suave, fine-grained Volnay with ripe tannins and lovely lingering purple fruits. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 93+ (4/2013): Bright, dark red. Very ripe, musky aromas of red berries, cherry, spices, mocha and underbrush. Sappy and supple, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the seamless red fruit flavors. Quite suave and rich but not at all thick or heavy. Finishes with very fine tannins and superb length and lift. Owner Patrick Landanger told me that he has pulled out 40% of the old virused vines in this vineyard since the 2009 harvest, as they were yielding very little crop. BH 92 (4/2012): This is slightly more complex if not more elegant with a more floral-infused nose that includes rose petal and violets on the plum and black cherry infused nose. There is excellent concentration to the detailed, intense and delicious flavors that possess that beguiling sense of underlying tension that carries over to the mouth coating and suave yet firm and enduring finish. Drink 2020+. Sweet SpotOutstanding! |

BH 93 (4/2012): This is more aromatically complex still with a beautifully floral nose of rose petal, violet and lavender as well as liqueur of red currant and black cherry. The hallmark minerality of this wine is very much in evidence on the palate staining flavors that possess a silky and highly sophisticated mouth feel while culminating in a dusty, explosive and gorgeously long finish. This does that wonderful slow build from the mid-palate to the finale and this should age exceptionally well. Drink 2022+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91+ (4/2013): Bright red with ruby highlights. Musky red raspberry, mocha and underbrush on the nose; more gamey and earthy and less fruity than the Clos de la Bousse d'Or. Silky on entry, then dense and rich in the middle, showing more thickness than the Bousse d'Or but less lift. Round and fairly large-scaled but does it have enough verve for extended cellaring? |
