WA 92-94 (12/2017): The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Fuées includes around 30% whole bunches with 50% new oak. It has a glorious bouquet, quite intense and well defined with scents of red berry fruit, damp loamy soil/woodland, hints of Earl Grey developing in the glass. This is surprisingly mercurial. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannin, structured but not imposing with a superb line of acidity, fresh and tensile right through to the very finish. The quality of this premier cru shines through here. Superb.
BH 90-93 (1/2018): Once again the aromas are very fresh but in this case the brooding nose only grudgingly reveals its elegant and well-layered mix of dark cherry, raspberry, plum and violet scents. There is excellent richness and mid-palate density supporting the velvety medium-bodied flavors that coat the mouth with dry extract on the mineral-driven, firm and relatively robust finale where a hint of warmth arises. At least some patience will be needed and this should ultimately reward close to a decade of aging. (Drink starting 2024). |

| BH 89-91 (1/2018): A slightly more elegant nose is composed mostly by notes from the red side of the fruit spectrum along with evident floral elements. While there is certainly good density this is more 'Chambollesque' than the old vines cuvée with a finer mouthfeel to the middle weight flavors that offer fine length on the bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. Lovely. Drink 2022+. |

BH 94 (1/2018): Relatively discreet but not invisible wood and menthol nuances frame wonderfully spicy, fresh and layered aromas of both red and dark currant along with notes of hoisin and soy. There is excellent volume and richness to the voluminous and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sap on the dusty, serious, youthfully austere and long finish that displays really lovely balance. This should be capable of aging well yet be approachable after 7-ish or so years. (Drink starting 2030).
VM 93 (11/2018): The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a floral bouquet of brambly red fruit infused with pressed flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with stringy tannins and good acidity but lacks a little complexity and energy toward the finish. That said, the wine improves over the course of 15 to 20 minutes, finally manifesting more delineation and terroir expression on the finish. My advice would be to cellar this Echézeaux for six or seven years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2023-2050). Neal Martin. |

| BH 91-94 (1/2018): Felettig noted that this had just completed its malo and not surprisingly the nose was reduced. On the plus side there is both good freshness and energy to the impressively rich and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a taut muscularity while flashing outstanding length on the firm but not austere finale. This is quite serious yet the velvety texture is seductive. Lovely stuff. (Drink starting 2028). |
