This has a very well-defined, quite floral nose with violet-infused red and blue fruit, fine delineation and poise. This is understated compared to previous vintages that I have tasted. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, quite citric and edgy with blood orange and a touch of black pepper towards the persistent finish. This gains weight with aeration that emphasizes more its blue fruit character. Very long in terms of aftertaste, this should age with style. (Drink between 2024-2048). Neal Martin. |

A superb fruit weight, yet with energy from a sufficiently mineral acidity to finish. Drink from 2030-2040+. |

Concentrated, thick and very ripe, with Baker's chocolate and mocha notes currently overwhelming the wine's fruit. There is a herbaceous touch which I must say I really rather like but will not be for everyone. Mixed ripeness perhaps is what gives a sense of complexity. A long keeper for Nicolas. Some firmer elements rather than a softer rounder version. Drink from 2029-2036. |

| VM 89-91 (1/2015): (vinified with 70% whole clusters; 40% new oak; 37 hectoliters per hectare produced): Dark bright red. Pure, vibrant aromas of black cherry, licorice and game, lifted by a floral tonote. Sappy, saline and intense, showing early sex appeal and balance to its high-pitched yet fully ripe dark fruit and licorice flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. (Incidentally, Groffier's Bourgogne Pinot Noir, frequently an outperformer for its modest appellation, is a potential knockout in 2013. Aromas of ripe black raspberry, violet and game lead to a sweet, lush palate that shows serious muscle and cut to the spicy dark fruit flavors.) |
