| BH 89-91 (4/2017): (this is actually a premier cru but it is not declared as such.) A ripe and dense nose is composed primarily by notes of plum, violet and warm earth nuances. As is typically the case there is more size, weight and power to the equally dense medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract, all wrapped in a firmly structured but well-balanced finish. Patience required. Drink 2025+. Outstanding Top Value! |

| VM 95 (1/2018): Saturated ruby. Youthfully imploded aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis and licorice show no roasted character ("the color of the wine is the only thing that gives away the vintage," noted Guillaume d'Angerville). More pliant than the 2016 but with a magical sugar/acid equilibrium and a complicating element of savory minerality. This insidiously palate-saturating wine finishes with outstanding slatey persistence and grip. I would imagine that this will be long-lived but will it ever really shut down in the bottle? It's hard to imagine that this fruit was harvested on September 4. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 95+ (10/2019): Saturated dark red-ruby. Deep, powerful aromas of kirsch, menthol, licorice and dark chocolate, along with a faint musky nuance. Wonderfully rich and enveloping wine, with its distinctly dark fruit flavors accented by pepper and spices. At once dense and energetic owing to its sappy minerality and surprising back-end acidity, this wine is nonetheless a bit of a bruiser, as its fully ripe but serious mouth-clenching tannins are going to need time to resolve. But the wine's impressive salty, mineral-driven persistence suggests that it will be long-lived. (13.5% alcohol; September 6 harvest; 35 h/h produced; 3.36 pH; d'Angerville attributed the unusually dark color of this wine to drought conditions in Volnay from mid-June to early August). Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 88 (1/2017): (bottled in mid-August; vinified with 80% whole clusters): Lovely spicy Pinot aromas and flavors of raspberry, minerals, flowers and dark chocolate. A very fresh, juicy Bourgogne Rouge with terrific gulpability. Stephen Tanzer. BH 88 (1/2017): (from 60+ year old vines based on the original pinot fin strain that is so highly regarded today.) A cool, pretty and pure nose reflects notes of various red berries, floral and a hint of earth. There is terrific energy and fine detail to the utterly delicious flavors that possess outstanding depth and length for a regional wine. Recommended. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

| VM 91-93 (1/2017): (100% vendange entier; the Boillots work these vines in Grand Maupertuis themselves): Saturated deep red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and rose petal communicate striking fruity lift for young Clos Vougeot. Very rich, sappy and deep, but but with no sign of overripeness and markedly different in style from the Côte de Beaune samples that preceded it in my tasting, partly due to its whole-cluster treatment. This distinctly fine-grained Clos Vougeot has clearly benefited from the weather conditions of 2015. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 90+ (1/2018): (13.5% alcohol; 20% new oak; the estate owns two parcels of vines in Santenots, one 15 and the other 70 years of age, and plans to pull up the old vines this year): Deep red with ruby tones. Liqueur-like black raspberry, dark cherry and bitter chocolate on the nose. Very ripe, full, powerful Volnay; quite chewy and sappy, with captivating saline soil character and a rather massive tannic structure that calls for patience. More dominated by the vintage than most of the other 2015s at this address. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 89 (1/2018): (from Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes.) A ripe but fresh nose combines both red currant and floral-suffused aromas with those of lavender, earth and a hint of oak. There is good intensity and freshness to the relatively robust middle weight flavors that possess fine delineation before culminating in a youthfully austere, dusty and mouth coating finale where a hint of warmth appears. A quality villages and worth a look. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

WA 90-92 (12/2016): The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru comes from four different lieux-dits from north to south of the appellation. It has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, bilberry and orange blossom; the oak neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, masculine in style with subtle tobacco notes infusing the slightly broody and yet fresh and tensile finish. It deserves a couple of years in bottle and should evolve into a very attractive Morey-Saint-Denis. BH 90-92 (1/2017): A ripe yet agreeably fresh nose features notes of plum, spice, earth and pretty floral nuances. There is both good richness and punch to the medium-bodied and fleshy flavors that tighten up significantly on the overtly powerful and entirely serious finish where a hint of bitter cherry arises. (Drink starting 2027). VM 89-92 (1/2017): Pungent spices and minerals on the nose, but with a more subdued fruit element than the village version. A step up in concentration and density in the mouth but quite backward in the early going and dominated by its structure. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and a strong spicy character. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 95 (1/2018): ( from a 1.57 ha parcel.) A discreet application of wood serves as a relatively neutral backdrop for the cool, pure and ultra-spicy and floral aromas of dark currant, plum and soy. The tautly muscular, intense and impressively scaled big-bodied flavors drip with both dry extract and evident minerality on the robust and driving finish that is sneaky long. This is quite firmly structured and will require extended patience before it reaches it apogee though it should very much be worth the wait. I would add that the domaine believes the 2015 is the finest Malconsorts that they have made and I would agree with that assessment. Drink 2030+. Outstanding! |

| BH 96 (5/2018): An extremely ripe nose manages to avoid any sense of surmaturite on the liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, cassis, anise and lilac scents. This is a massive wine, with huge mid-palate concentration, power and muscle that terminates in a borderline painfully intense finale that both coats the palate and lasts for minutes. I take considerable pains to point out however that this ultra-structured and overtly austere effort is not only built for the long haul but for the very long haul. I have suggested an initial drinking window of 30 years from now but it may very well be longer. In sum, this brilliant effort is very old school Corton that I wouldn't even consider opening for at least 10 years. Try from 2035+. |

| BH 92-95 (1/2017): ( from a huge 2.05 ha parcel.) Deeply pitched aromas of newly turned earth and animale notes characterize the brooding but notably ripe spiced plum and red berry fruit nose. The rich, full-bodied and tautly muscled flavors exhibit buckets of sappy dry extract that all but disguises the firm tannic spine on the immensely long and explosive finish. Cazetiers doesn't get a whole lot better than this. Drink 2032+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

There is obvious minerality to the rich, full and naturally sweet broad-scaled yet relatively elegant flavors that are solidly structured, muscular and wonderfully intense while delivering superb complexity on the hugely long and moderately rustic finish. This gorgeous effort is indisputably built for long-term aging. Dirnk 2033+. Don't miss! |

| BH 92 (1/2018): There is just enough reduction present to push the ripe mix of earthy dark fruit and underbrush aromas to the background so I would suggest decanting this for half an hour first if you're tempted to try a bottle young. There is ample dry extract on the robust, muscular and intense flavors that display a distinct gaminess on the textured and solidly long and dusty finish that is supported by ripe tannins. This will require at least a decade for this full-boded, rustic and very serious effort to come together. Drink 2027+. |

BH 93 (1/2018): This is cooler and spicier with its more elegant array of dark currant, rose petal and plum scents that are also trimmed in enough wood and menthol to remark upon. The suave, round and seductively textured flavors possess a sleek muscularity and good minerality while delivering excellent length on the firm finale. This is both stylish and classy though note well that it's clearly built-to-age and is going to require at least 7 to 8 years first. (Drink starting 2027). VM 92+ (1/2018): Good medium-deep red. Black cherry, licorice, minerals and a whiff of violet on the nose. Energetic but youthfully tight, conveying a strong impression of saline minerality. Finishes with building firm tannins and lovely perfumed lift. This solidly structured wine will need patience but it has the verve to evolve gracefully and last. (Drink between 2025-2036). | VM 93 (1/2018): Full medium red. Captivating aromas of dark cherry, dried rose, lavender and crushed rock. Juicy and intensely flavored, offering excellent definition to its penetrating flavors of raspberry, cherry and saline minerality. Shows limited early sweetness but the wine's long, slowly mounting finish features dusty, well-buffered tannins and terrific saline energy. Part of this vineyard is on pure rock with very little topsoil and the strong mineral element thoroughly buffers the alcohol of the vintage. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 88-90 (1/2017): A spicy and attractively fresh and ripe nose offers up notes of cassis, black raspberry and sandalwood. | BH 94 (4/2018): This is more obviously 2015 in style than any of the preceding wines with its very ripe aromas of cassis, roasted plum, spice and plenty of earth nuances. The exceptionally rich and opulently concentrated big-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouth feel thanks to the equally good level of sappy dry extract, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, robust and rustic finale. This too is very much built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least a decade before it will begin to drink reasonably well. In short, this is terrific but patience strongly advised. WA 94+ (10/2018): The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is immensely promising and will be well worth seeking out when the Gaunoux family finally decides to release it. Offering up a deep bouquet in which aromas of cherries, cassis and plums mingle with nuances of dark chocolate, licorice and cedar, it's a medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine with considerable amplitude and structure, underpinned by tangy acids. While the wine is already elegant and harmonious, its fine-grained but firm tannins are abundant: given the track record of Gaunoux's wines, I wouldn't expect this to show all its cards until its 20th birthday. BH 93 (4/2018): Here too there is a hint of wood to the more complex nose that displays an impressively broad array of spice, earth, underbrush and dark currant aromas laced with hints of the sauvage. There is outstanding richness to the powerful and velvet-textured big-bodied flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that relegates the firm tannins to the background on the mouth coating and gorgeous persistent finish. This is a burly and muscular effort that is not especially rustic though one that will require plenty of cellar time to reach its peak. (Drink starting 2030). |

| BH 93-96 (1/2017): (from Richebourg proper.) This too is sufficiently reduced as to render it difficult to assess. By contrast, the big-bodied, powerful and incredibly rich flavors are tighter and less forthcoming with strikingly good underlying material while displaying stunningly fine depth on the mineral-inflected and wonderfully persistent finish. This too is blessed with seemingly unending reserves of dry extract that do an excellent job of buffering the very firm tannic spine. Patience, and lots of it, is absolutely essential here. VM 91-94 (1/2017): Good medium red but not as dark as the Vosne villages. Captivating scents of redcurrant, rose petal and tobacco. Ripe and rather powerful for this cuvée, like a coulis of red fruits intensified by penetrating acidity. The tannins are chewy and tactile but not dry, with the finish displaying terrific fruit retention. Stephen Tanzer. BH 89-91 (1/2017): Moderate wood sets off the markedly spicy aromas of liqueur-like dark pinot fruit, violet and lilac. There is impressive volume to the full-bodied but highly seductive flavors that coat the palate on the toasty and somewhat warm finale. This should also drink well on the younger side if desired. (Drink starting 2022) WA 91-93 (12/2016): The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from the lieu-dit of Les Loachausses, has a very expressive bouquet with vibrant red and black fruit, overtly classic in style, perhaps more reserved than previous vintages that I have tasted, yet conveying the terroir in convincing fashion. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, cedar, touches of white pepper with fine structure and tension all the way through to the finish. It needed time to open so I would afford this 3-4 years in bottle. |

| BH 92-94 (4/2017): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could retain the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) Prominent, but not dominant, oak and menthol characters are present on the ultra-spicy nose of attractively fresh red and dark cherry aromas that are trimmed in tea, sandalwood and hoisin nuances. The bigger, richer and more mineral-driven flavors also coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the overtly powerful and driving finish that goes on and on. This is not a huge version of the appellation but the focus and sense of harmony are certainly admirable. Patience required. Drink 2030+. |

VM 96 (1/2018): Bright medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red cherry, raspberry, underbrush, rose petal and salty minerality; wonderfully subtle and complex. Silky on entry, then densely packed but weightless in the mid-palate, displaying outstanding inner-mouth spicy, floral lift to its intense red fruit and saline mineral flavors. A creamy, utterly seamless old-vines Chapelle with extremely refined tannins and inexorable subtle rising length. Outstanding--but will this wine shut down hard in bottle? Really captures the best qualities of the vintage without sacrificing its typicity. (Drink between 2026-2040) BH 94 (4/2018): This displays noticeable wood influence though here it's more in the form of menthol than toast though it's not so much as to materially impede the appreciation of the notably ripe red cherry and overtly floral-scented nose where ample hints of the sauvage and warm earth eventually appear. There is remarkably good concentration as the old vine sap is immediately evident whilst coating the palate and pushing the markedly firm tannic spine to the background on the powerful and intensely mineral-driven if noticeably warm finale. Despite the impressive size, weight and power this is actually more refined than usual but even so, it's going to require a very long snooze in an appropriately cool cellar. In sum, this is seriously good Chapelle. (Drink starting 2035). |

BH 92-94 (4/2017): Notes of wood and menthol combine with those of red currant, dark raspberry and plenty of earth and game scents. The velvety yet quite powerful big-bodied flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the otherwise notably firm tannic spine to the background on the built-to-age, balanced and wonderfully persistent finale. Drink 2032+. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a voluminous and extravagant bouquet with blooms of red berry fruit, although I found myself more drawn to the complex and intellectual Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a masculine, assertive Clos de la Roche, quite saline in the mouth with a feisty, spicy finish. This is a fine grand cru from Louis Jadot, though not one of their top releases this vintage. VM 90-92 (1/2017): (a blend of purchased wine from two sources): Good full red. Aromas of cherry, herbs and oak show a youthfully medicinal quality. Powerful but a touch dry; this strikes me a bit energetically extracted at the expense of the vintage's potential silkiness. The medicinal menthol quality is complicated by notes of brown spices and earth, but the wine's primary fruit is very much in the background today. Finishes dry and imploded, with strong tannins. Not my favorite style of Clos de la Roche. Jadot has eight barrels of this wine, four made via a classic vinification, according to Barnier, and four using more modern, extractive techniques. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 94+ (2/2019): Bright medium red. Wonderfully pure, inviting nose combines strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, spices, white pepper and blood orange: I might have picked this essence of Burgundy as a Chambolle-Musigny! Plush, silky and fine-grained but tactile and substantial as well, boasting terrific energy for its vintage. (The vines benefited from the cooler temperatures and well-timed rainfall in August, which enable the wine to retain freshness, noted Frederic Barnier.) The wine's very primary red berry, spice and floral flavors display seductive sweetness but a strong element of saline minerality accentuates the overall dry impression. A great wine in the making, showing an almost peppery vibrancy today; I would not be surprised if this shut down in the bottle in the near future. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 94+ (10/2018): Tasted blind, Jadot's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques confirmed the seriousness it displayed earlier this year, unwinding with aeration to reveal a youthfully reserved bouquet of sweet red fruits, raw cocoa, rich soil and dried rose petal, framed by a judicious application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, reserved and concentrated, with fine-grained but firm structuring tannins, tangy acids and impressive length. This Clos Saint-Jacques is shutting down, so it's all about future potential, but its showing in this tasting suggested that when all is said and done, it may well be the Clos Saint-Jacques of the vintage. VM 94 (11/2018): The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques 1er Cru has a more tightly knit bouquet than Fourrier and Brunco Clair's own Clos St.-Jacques: very pure and focused, perhaps not quite as detailed and mineral-driven as the latter, but attractive all the same. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and impressive depth, and quite grippy at the moment, if not quite delivering the details and nuance or the same mineralité as the best Clos Saint-Jacques on the finish. Yet it is still a seriously fine wine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2021-2045). Neal Martin. |

| BH 91-94 (4/2017): (from Mitans proper.) An appealing elegant, high-toned and equally airy nose reflects notes of pure essence of red pinot fruit that is sprinkled with floral, spice and earth hints. The sleek, lacy and beautifully energetic middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the detailed, focused and sneaky long finish. Textbook Mitans. Drink 2023+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| BH 94 (1/2018): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 50+ years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 25+ years of age; made with 100% whole cluster.) Here too the nose is quite ripe yet very fresh with its layered array of spicy and markedly floral-inflected black cherry and plum scents that are trimmed in both discreet wood and menthol nuances. There is impressive size, weight and power to the more mineral-driven and refined medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by a distinctly firm tannic spine on the wonderfully persistent and mildly austere finale. This is first-rate and one serious wine in 2015 and thus be prepared to allow it at least 10 to 12 years first. Drink 2027+. |

VM 90+ (1/2018): Moderately saturated medium red. Very ripe but not roasted on the nose, with its raspberry fruit complicated by spices and sexy earth tones, plus a slightly metallic whiff of cassis bud reduction. Juicy, spicy and savory but still a bit youthfully imploded for village wine. At once less sweet and less floral than the 2016 version, but if that wine is more fun, this one is deeper. Finishes with a firm tannic spine. (Drink between 2022-2029). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (1/2018): A notably ripe yet agreeably fresh nose offers up notes of various dark berries, spice, floral elements and discreet earth nuances. The notably rich medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely mouthfeel thanks to the solid mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a velvety yet punchy and refreshing finale that is sufficiently firm to warrant holding this for at least a few years first. Recommended. (Drink starting 2022). |

| BH 89 (1/2018): (a .78 ha parcel of vines between 50 and 70 years of age.) This is also sufficiently reduced to require a thorough aeration if you're tempted to sip this in its youth. The medium-bodied flavors possess a slightly finer and rounder mouthfeel while delivering fine length on the slightly more tightly wound and mildly austere finale. This needs at least a few years to round out and mellow. Drink 2023+. Outstanding! |

VM 93+ (1/2018): Good medium red. Wild nose offers hints of superripe red raspberry, mocha and leather, with a fresher violet note emerging with air. A very ripe, almost roasted style with terrific chewy concentration--and more juicy purple-fruit lift than the nose would suggest. Finishes with a powerful spine of chewy tannins and very good precision. Stephen Tanzer. WA 94-96 (12/2016): The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the Mazoyères sector, has a gorgeous bouquet in the making with joyful red berry fruit mixed with cold stone and subtle oyster shell aromas, the 30% new oak deftly integrated and barely noticeable. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy, vibrant opening. There are layers of tart red cherry fruit, crushed strawberry, citrus peel and quince fanning out wonderful towards the finish, which exerts a gentle but insistent grip. What a fabulous Charmes-Chambertin from Laurent and Hubert Lignier. BH 91-93 (1/2017): (from a tiny .10 ha parcel of vines in Mazoyères.) A hint of wood spice frames brooding if very fresh and layered aromas of red fruits, earth, underbrush and humus. The rich, naturally sweet, sappy and again, beautifully textured medium full-bodied flavors are quite round and balanced yet the finish is almost robust and decidedly powerful. This is an interesting wine as it is at once succulent yet very serious. Drink 2027+. |

| BH 95-98 (1/2017): (from a .37 ha parcel in Les Veroilles of 60+ year old vines save for a very tiny parcel in Richebourg proper.) Here too there is enough reduction present to push the underlying fruit to the background. Otherwise there is breathtakingly good concentration to the broad-shouldered, succulent and lavishly rich flavors that also possess an almost haunting inner mouth perfume of spice and floral elements. There is superb power and buckets of dry extract and despite the imposing size and weight this remains refined and immaculately well-balanced on the massively long finale. I was knocked out by the potential this demonstrated but note well that it is a wine to buy and forget as this is going to need 20 to 30 years to reach its full apogee. Drink 2035+. Don't miss! |

BH 91-94 (4/2017): This is also appealingly elegant with its pretty liqueur-like red pinot fruit, spice, sandalwood and subtle earth scents. The mouth feel of the slightly bigger and richer flavors remains refined, lacy and focused with a lovely sense of underlying tension that continues onto the markedly firmer finish. Lovely. VM 92-94 (1/2017): Good dark red. Subdued but precise aromas of raspberry, cherry and flowers. Compellingly intense and lively in the mouth, offering terrific juicy cut to its red fruit and mineral flavors. This beauty boasts a firm spine of acidity and finishes with lovely ripeness and lingering perfume. Stephen Tanzer. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a very pure, very attractive bouquet with mineral-tinged red cherry and cranberry fruit that is equidistant in style between Pommard and Volnay. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. I love the tension here, that nascent energy and salinity towards the finish that actually does veer towards Pommard in terms of structure. Excellent. |

| VM 94 (1/2018): (100% vendange entier; one-third new oak): Healthy dark red. Complex but reticent aromas of kirsch and blueberry lifted by a floral quality. A bit youthfully withdrawn but lively and polished in the mouth, with a floral perfume that's rare for this drought year. Wonderfully classy, refined Volnay with outstanding subtle sweetness and energy and a very long finish featuring utterly suave tannins. A great young Volnay in the making. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 91 (1/2018): (the yield here was about 33 hectoliters per hectare, vs. an estate-wide average of 28 in 2015): Bright ruby-red. Subtle scents of boysenberry, blackberry, bitter chocolate and anise. Concentrated, tactile Beaune premier cru with layered dark berry flavors and lovely integrated sweetness. This very fine-grained, harmonious wine finishes with sweet dark fruits and suave tannins. This wine showed good power but a slight rusticity from barrel a year ago; it's more classy in its finished form. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (4/2018): A very ripe nose of stewed plum, spice and wood leads lavishly rich, concentrated and mouth coating full-bodied flavors that are also quite generously proportioned. The ample amounts of dry extract impart a velvety, even opulent palate impression that also buffers the medium firm tannins on the slightly warm finish. Drink 2025+. |

BH 94 (1/2018): (from a .16 ha parcel in Charmes proper of vines planted in 1885 that have never been pulled up though Roty points out that all those that have died over the years have been replanted.) This is almost as elegant as the Griotte but with a different aromatic profile that runs more toward a slightly darker range of fruit, earth, game and discreet violet notes where there is again plenty of wood influence. There is good refinement to the pure and beautifully detailed big-bodied and impressively concentrated flavors that brim with palate coating dry extract that buffers the very firm tannic spine on the hugely long but not especially austere and slightly warm finale. A classic Roty Charmes. Drink 2030+. VM 94-97 (1/2017): Full ruby-red. Very pure but youthfully brooding aromas of black fruits, licorice, violet and minerals. Strikingly sappy and primary, conveying near-painful intensity to its tightly wound black fruit and saline mineral flavors. This complete, impeccably balanced Charmes-Chambertin expands spectacularly on the rising, palate-staining back end, saturating the taste buds and leaving the mouth vibrating. A perfect blueprint for a 25+-year wine. A good portion of these vines date back to the vineyard's original post-Phylloxera graftings in 1881, but as the family has never used pesticides or chemical fertilizers these old vines still routinely yield a healthy crop--35 hectoliters per hectare in 2015. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 91 (1/2018): A more deeply pitched nose combines notes of dark currant, earth, underbrush and discreet humus nuances. There is fine richness and plenty of punch to the more voluminous and once again solidly concentrated flavors that are shaped by surprisingly sleek tannins on the firm, highly complex, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finish save for a trace of warmth. This firm and dusty effort will need all of a decade to shed its core of tannins and become more user friendly. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

BH 98 (1/2018): (100% new wood.) Here too there is just enough oak to mention but once again it's not really enough to impair the purity of the distinctly cool and ultra-spicy red currant, underbrush, sandalwood, lilac and plenty of earth aromas. The rich, intense and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors possess a similar level of minerality that is borderline pungent and it informs the explosively long, firm and very serious finish. This notably powerful, but not really austere effort, displays magnificent potential and if it develops its usual degree of complexity over time it should merit the upper end of my projected range. But as structured and firm as it is, I suspect that this will drink well after only 6 to 8 years of age thanks to the incredible abundance of dry extract. Drink 2037+. VM 97-99 (1/2017): (12.8% natural alcohol chaptalized to 13.2%; Rousseau presented this wine before his Clos de Bèze because he finds the latter wine much more oaky in the early going): Dark, bright red with ruby highlights. Crushed black cherry, raspberry and spice aromas are lifted by a pungent floral topnote--"very ripe for this wine," notes Rousseau. At once utterly young and almost exotic, conveying extraordinary intensity and layered texture to its slightly high-toned flavors of raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, licorice and spices. An element of menthol reserve contributes to the wine's impression of brooding energy. Finishes with noble, seamless tannins and slowly mounting, explosive palate-staining length. Almost painful and almost perfect. Stephen Tanzer. WA 97-99 (12/2016): The 2015 Chambertin Grand Cru took a while to open in the glass, as it is prone towards. It has a very elegant bouquet once again, the fruit an equal mixture of red and black, a touch of cold flint in the background accompanied by blood orange and satsuma that emerge with time. The palate is blessed with beguiling symmetry and power, counterpoised by the killer line of acidity, leading to a mineral-rich finish that goes on forever. This is another Outstanding Chambertin from Rousseau that wine lovers will doubtlessly be fighting over for years to come. And you know what? I wouldn't blame them. |

| BH 91 (1/2018): A fresh, ripe and very Gevrey nose reflects plenty of earth, sauvage and humus characters on the dark currant and softly floral aromas. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension and minerality to the dusty, precise and sleekly muscular flavors that culminate in a notably firm but not especially austere or backward finale. This should reward up to 10 years of cellaring yet be approachable after 5 or so. Drink 2023+. Outstanding! |

| VM 89-92 (6/2017): The 2015 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze shows a lot of new oak today, which masks the fruit. But there is good depth, power and richness. Here, too, the wine gives the impression it needs time to fully come together. The new oak is a bit prominent at this stage, but there is good depth of fruit in the background. I imagine it will be a good few years at least before the Bèze is at its best. (Drink between 2025-2035). Antonio Galloni. |

BH 95-98 (1/2017): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) Like the Amoureuses this too is kaleidoscopically spicy with its broad-ranging nose of red cherry, cassis, plum, violet, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and hoisin. The velvety and mouth coating imposingly-scaled and intense mineral-driven flavors are also blessed with seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that coat the palate on the highly seductive finish that delivers fantastically good length on the youthfully austere, backward and immaculately well-balanced finale. This too is going to require a very long snooze in a very cool cellar but it should be a remarkable Musigny when it emerges. Drink 2035+. Don't miss! VM 94-97 (1/2017): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and bitter chocolate are lifted by the most pungent minerality of this range. Combines compelling sweetness and density, but with a finesse of texture that gives this wine an improbably light touch. Remarkably dense but reserved wine, with purple berry liqueur and mineral flavors conveying terrific lift. Easily the best of these 2015s, finishing with a juicy whiplash of flavor. Here the tannins arrive very late and are perfectly integrated with the wine's fruit and soil elements. Still, this vibrant wine is extremely backward and unevolved in the early going and will require long aging. Winemaker François Millet expects to do a very light fining at the bottling. Stephen Tanzer. WA 95-97 (12/2016): The 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially more introspective compared to the Bonnes-Mares. Predominantly black fruit here with blueberry developing in the glass, there is a slight earthiness in character that shimmies towards floral scents as it opens. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and more salinity than then Bonnes Mares or the Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses. It feels crunchy and fresh in the mouth with plenty of blueberry and blackberry towards the long and persistent finish. This is an Outstanding Musigny Vieilles Vignes of substance that will age over 30-40 years. |
