The supple and seductively textured flavors possess a subtle minerality that continues onto the energetic, detailed and driving finish. This is excellent and the backend firms up quickly to suggest that while this could be enjoyed young, it should also age effortlessly. (Drink starting 2023). |

WA 90-92 (12/2016): The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru comes from four different lieux-dits from north to south of the appellation. It has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, bilberry and orange blossom; the oak neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, masculine in style with subtle tobacco notes infusing the slightly broody and yet fresh and tensile finish. It deserves a couple of years in bottle and should evolve into a very attractive Morey-Saint-Denis.
BH 90-92 (1/2017): A ripe yet agreeably fresh nose features notes of plum, spice, earth and pretty floral nuances. There is both good richness and punch to the medium-bodied and fleshy flavors that tighten up significantly on the overtly powerful and entirely serious finish where a hint of bitter cherry arises. (Drink starting 2027).
VM 89-92 (1/2017): Pungent spices and minerals on the nose, but with a more subdued fruit element than the village version. A step up in concentration and density in the mouth but quite backward in the early going and dominated by its structure. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and a strong spicy character. | BH 96 (5/2018): An extremely ripe nose manages to avoid any sense of surmaturite on the liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, cassis, anise and lilac scents. This is a massive wine, with huge mid-palate concentration, power and muscle that terminates in a borderline painfully intense finale that both coats the palate and lasts for minutes. I take considerable pains to point out however that this ultra-structured and overtly austere effort is not only built for the long haul but for the very long haul. I have suggested an initial drinking window of 30 years from now but it may very well be longer. In sum, this brilliant effort is very old school Corton that I wouldn't even consider opening for at least 10 years. Try from 2035+. |

This is also strikingly fresh and bright with an aromatic profile that runs towards the red side of the fruit spectrum along with more evident earth and game nuances. There is a bit more volume and power to the equally mineral-inflected flavors that trade size and weight for slightly less precision on the equally long but less refined finale. This is more obviously Gevrey in character. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

VM 91-94 (1/2017): Good medium red but not as dark as the Vosne villages. Captivating scents of redcurrant, rose petal and tobacco. Ripe and rather powerful for this cuvée, like a coulis of red fruits intensified by penetrating acidity. The tannins are chewy and tactile but not dry, with the finish displaying terrific fruit retention. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 89-91 (1/2017): Moderate wood sets off the markedly spicy aromas of liqueur-like dark pinot fruit, violet and lilac. There is impressive volume to the full-bodied but highly seductive flavors that coat the palate on the toasty and somewhat warm finale. This should also drink well on the younger side if desired. (Drink starting 2022)
WA 91-93 (12/2016): The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from the lieu-dit of Les Loachausses, has a very expressive bouquet with vibrant red and black fruit, overtly classic in style, perhaps more reserved than previous vintages that I have tasted, yet conveying the terroir in convincing fashion. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, cedar, touches of white pepper with fine structure and tension all the way through to the finish. It needed time to open so I would afford this 3-4 years in bottle. |

| BH 92-94 (4/2017): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could retain the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) Prominent, but not dominant, oak and menthol characters are present on the ultra-spicy nose of attractively fresh red and dark cherry aromas that are trimmed in tea, sandalwood and hoisin nuances. The bigger, richer and more mineral-driven flavors also coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the overtly powerful and driving finish that goes on and on. This is not a huge version of the appellation but the focus and sense of harmony are certainly admirable. Patience required. Drink 2030+. |

The velvety yet quite powerful big-bodied flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the otherwise notably firm tannic spine to the background on the built-to-age, balanced and wonderfully persistent finale. Drink 2032+.
WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a voluminous and extravagant bouquet with blooms of red berry fruit, although I found myself more drawn to the complex and intellectual Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a masculine, assertive Clos de la Roche, quite saline in the mouth with a feisty, spicy finish. This is a fine grand cru from Louis Jadot, though not one of their top releases this vintage.
VM 90-92 (1/2017): (a blend of purchased wine from two sources): Good full red. Aromas of cherry, herbs and oak show a youthfully medicinal quality. Powerful but a touch dry; this strikes me a bit energetically extracted at the expense of the vintage's potential silkiness. The medicinal menthol quality is complicated by notes of brown spices and earth, but the wine's primary fruit is very much in the background today. Finishes dry and imploded, with strong tannins. Not my favorite style of Clos de la Roche. Jadot has eight barrels of this wine, four made via a classic vinification, according to Barnier, and four using more modern, extractive techniques. | VM 94+ (2/2019): Bright medium red. Wonderfully pure, inviting nose combines strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, spices, white pepper and blood orange: I might have picked this essence of Burgundy as a Chambolle-Musigny! Plush, silky and fine-grained but tactile and substantial as well, boasting terrific energy for its vintage. (The vines benefited from the cooler temperatures and well-timed rainfall in August, which enable the wine to retain freshness, noted Frederic Barnier.) The wine's very primary red berry, spice and floral flavors display seductive sweetness but a strong element of saline minerality accentuates the overall dry impression. A great wine in the making, showing an almost peppery vibrancy today; I would not be surprised if this shut down in the bottle in the near future. Stephen Tanzer. |

Then wonderfully sweet, seamless and mouthfilling, offering captivating inner-mouth perfume and outstanding pliancy for a wine with a pH of 3.35. Tightens up a bit on the back end, finishing with serious but suave, harmonious tannins and subtle rising length. This wine is a good bet to go on in bottle for two decades, but will it go through a dumb stage along the way? Stephen Tanzer.
BH 92-95 (4/2017): ( from 40+ year old vines planted in shallow, high clay content soil sitting on a bed of solid rock.) This is also brilliantly spicy with its ultra-pure and pretty essence of black raspberry, floral and warm-earth suffused aromas. Like the Champans there is excellent underlying tension supporting the broad-shouldered flavors that are even more mineral-driven on the muscular, taut and driving finish. This wine always ages well and typically needs quite a bit of it and this terrific effort will be no exception. This could well rival the 1999, 2005 and 2010 versions in time. Drink 2030+. WA 94-96 (12/2016): The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the Mazoyères sector, has a gorgeous bouquet in the making with joyful red berry fruit mixed with cold stone and subtle oyster shell aromas, the 30% new oak deftly integrated and barely noticeable. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy, vibrant opening. WA 94-96 (12/2016): The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the Mazoyères sector, has a gorgeous bouquet in the making with joyful red berry fruit mixed with cold stone and subtle oyster shell aromas, the 30% new oak deftly integrated and barely noticeable. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy, vibrant opening. BH 91-94 (4/2017): This is also appealingly elegant with its pretty liqueur-like red pinot fruit, spice, sandalwood and subtle earth scents. The mouth feel of the slightly bigger and richer flavors remains refined, lacy and focused with a lovely sense of underlying tension that continues onto the markedly firmer finish. Lovely.
VM 92-94 (1/2017): Good dark red. Subdued but precise aromas of raspberry, cherry and flowers. Compellingly intense and lively in the mouth, offering terrific juicy cut to its red fruit and mineral flavors. This beauty boasts a firm spine of acidity and finishes with lovely ripeness and lingering perfume. Stephen Tanzer.
WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a very pure, very attractive bouquet with mineral-tinged red cherry and cranberry fruit that is equidistant in style between Pommard and Volnay. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. I love the tension here, that nascent energy and salinity towards the finish that actually does veer towards Pommard in terms of structure. Excellent. |

| VM 94+ (1/2018): (100% vendange entier; 60% new oak): Good medium red; not particularly dark. Subtle medicinal reserve to the aromas of black cherry and cocoa powder enlivened by a floral topnote. Boasts outstanding density and finesse of texture--no rough edges here!--but still quite tightly wound and in a shell today. Youthfully restrained but the exhilarating balance between almost inky dark fruits and saline minerality is already obvious. This wine has the concentration and tannic clout for the long term but will need extended cellaring to deliver on its full potential; at that point, it should merit an even higher rating. VM 91 (1/2018): (the yield here was about 33 hectoliters per hectare, vs. an estate-wide average of 28 in 2015): Bright ruby-red. Subtle scents of boysenberry, blackberry, bitter chocolate and anise. Concentrated, tactile Beaune premier cru with layered dark berry flavors and lovely integrated sweetness. This very fine-grained, harmonious wine finishes with sweet dark fruits and suave tannins. This wine showed good power but a slight rusticity from barrel a year ago; it's more classy in its finished form. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 90 (4/2018): A very ripe nose of stewed plum, spice and wood leads lavishly rich, concentrated and mouth coating full-bodied flavors that are also quite generously proportioned. The ample amounts of dry extract impart a velvety, even opulent palate impression that also buffers the medium firm tannins on the slightly warm finish. Drink 2025+. |

BH 87-90 (4/2017): Once again mild reduction knocks down the underlying fruit though it does appear to be obviously ripe. The juicy and succulent flavors are solidly concentrated, indeed this is a big Chambolle villages as the bitter cherry-inflected finish even displays a bit of rusticity and somewhat less minerality than this cuvée usually does. To be sure, this is delicious but I wouldn't describe it as a typical Chambolle. (Drink starting 2022).
WA 87/89 (12/2016): The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a lovely pure red cherry and boysenberry-scented bouquet, quite sleek and modern but it retains sufficient delineation and freshness. The palate is medium-bodied with fine backbone, well balanced and poised with more terroir expression than some of the premier crus. Enjoy this over the next decade.
VM 87-89 (1/2017): Bright medium ruby. Black fruits and espresso on the nose. Supple on entry, then a bit simple in the middle palate, offering flavors of black raspberry and chocolate; hard to taste following the two Corton grand crus, even a bit neutral in terms of its flavor interest. There's less mid-palate stuffing here to support the slightly tough tannins. Perhaps overextracted. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 96 (1/2018): A discreet application of wood frames the even more complex nose of high-toned, cool and airy aromas of red and dark cherry, forest floor, rose petal and spice elements. The sleek, intense and once again highly sophisticated middle weight plus flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that buffers the even firmer tannic spine shaping the hugely long and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is relatively succulent for a young Latricières but I suspect that the present inviting mouthfeel will be replaced in short order by something firmer and more austere. In short, this is stunningly good but it is not likely to make for especially inviting early drinking. Drink 2035+.
VM 94 (1/2018): Good medium red. Subtle, deeply pitched nose combines dark berries, violet and a sexy, slightly wild smoky quality. Wonderfully rich and suave in the style of the vintage's best examples, but with surprising energy to frame the flavors of purple fruits, violet, earth and game. I love this wine's combination of sucrosite and whole-cluster (40%) pungency. The slowly-rising finish saturates the palate with fine-grained tannins and subtle, building minerality. BH 97 (1/2018): (from 3 different parcels that total 2 ha.) Interestingly this is aromatically quite similar to the nose of the Latricières though there is just a bit more wood in evidence plus a hint of menthol. By contrast there is more size, weight, power and muscle to the big-bodied and equally mineral-driven flavors that also brim with copious amounts of dry extract that coats the palate and buffers the very firm but not hard tannic backbone on the driving, hugely long and youthfully austere finale. This is an exquisitely poised Chambertin that is very much built-to-age and is going to need a minimum of 10 years and once again, is a wine that should last for decades. In a word, brilliant. Drink 2035+.
VM 96 (1/2018): Full, dark red. A bit less wild than the Latricières on the nose but a fabulous soil expression nonetheless, offering aromas of raspberry, spices, leather, dried flowers, smoke and cocoa powder. Slightly timid on first pour, this utterly seamless wine opens with air to offer Outstanding volume without any easy sweetness or undue weight. Can a wine be both elegant and almost too big for the mouth? This very generous but rather laid-back Chambertin finishes with inexorable, slowly building length and noble tannins that saturate the sides of the tongue and teeth. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 95-98 (1/2017): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) Like the Amoureuses this too is kaleidoscopically spicy with its broad-ranging nose of red cherry, cassis, plum, violet, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and hoisin. The velvety and mouth coating imposingly-scaled and intense mineral-driven flavors are also blessed with seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that coat the palate on the highly seductive finish that delivers fantastically good length on the youthfully austere, backward and immaculately well-balanced finale. This too is going to require a very long snooze in a very cool cellar but it should be a remarkable Musigny when it emerges. Drink 2035+. Don't miss!
VM 94-97 (1/2017): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and bitter chocolate are lifted by the most pungent minerality of this range. Combines compelling sweetness and density, but with a finesse of texture that gives this wine an improbably light touch. Remarkably dense but reserved wine, with purple berry liqueur and mineral flavors conveying terrific lift. Easily the best of these 2015s, finishing with a juicy whiplash of flavor. Here the tannins arrive very late and are perfectly integrated with the wine's fruit and soil elements. Still, this vibrant wine is extremely backward and unevolved in the early going and will require long aging. Winemaker François Millet expects to do a very light fining at the bottling. WA 95-97 (12/2016): The 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially more introspective compared to the Bonnes-Mares. Predominantly black fruit here with blueberry developing in the glass, there is a slight earthiness in character that shimmies towards floral scents as it opens. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and more salinity than then Bonnes Mares or the Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses. It feels crunchy and fresh in the mouth with plenty of blueberry and blackberry towards the long and persistent finish. This is an Outstanding Musigny Vieilles Vignes of substance that will age over 30-40 years. |
