There is at once very good richness but also fine delineation to the solidly powerful middle weight flavors that possess good muscle on the youthfully austere, firm, serious and beautifully complex and persistent finale. | VM 90 (3/2017): Healthy medium red. Musky aromas of black cherry, smoke, mocha and sweet oak. A tightly coiled wine of moderate flesh, this village bottling offers nicely delineated flavors of dark berries, licorice, bitter chocolate and earth complicated by a saline minerality that no doubt comes from the higher-altitude parcels that go into the blend. | VM 92 (10/2019): The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes 5 Terroirs was glorious from barrel and that has clearly transferred into bottle. It has an extremely pure and delineated bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry, subtle tertiary and mineral scents that evoke Premier Cru quality. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is very well balanced with a lightly spiced opening. Beautiful weight here and supremely well integrated oak, this is a class act, one that is not stupidly priced either. | WA 90-92 (1/2021): This is at once earthier and more reserved with its combination of red and dark berries along with hints of game, underbrush and a forest floor character. There is a bit more volume to the dense and intense medium-bodied flavors that also exude evident minerality on the chiseled and wonderfully refreshing finish. The supporting tannins are noticeably firmer, and this is going to require at least some patience. Recommended as this too is an excellent villages. Drink 2029+. |
