WA 91-93 (12/2015): The 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very composed bouquet with intense red cherries, wild strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas, offering that sensuality Burgundy-lovers seek from a Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied and showing the hand of the oak a little at the moment, but it is in proportion with the fruit and the finish maintains fine delineation. VM 90-92 (1/2016): (from vines in the highest part of Mazoyères): Healthy dark red. Aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice, anise and bitter chocolate show less floral character than the Combottes. Rich, fine-grained and deep, conveying a chocolatey ripeness but coming across as a bit earth-bound, with a slightly more rustic texture than the Combottes. This plush wine finishes with big, ripe, chewy tannins. BH 92-95 (1/2016): (from a 1.13 ha parcel in Mazoyères that abuts the Route des Grands Crus.) A more deeply pitched and notably earthier nose also displays plenty of sauvage character. This gamy element continues onto the concentrated medium weight plus flavors that possess a caressing mouth feel despite the evident muscularity of the austere and explosive finish. This is very Mazoyères in character yet it is a bit less rustic than usual. Worth a look provided that you have the patience to cellar it. Drink 2029+. |

VM 89-92 (1/2016): Healthy dark red. Lower-pitched on the nose than the Blanchards owing to an element of musky reduction. Smooth and rich but much less forthcoming than the Blanchards despite possessing a thicker texture. This wine will rely more on its sizable tannic structure than on its acidity for longevity. This parcel, located in a cold terroir close to Mazoyères, was picked six days later than the Blanchards and Millandes. Just a touch dry on the back end in the early going. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-93 (1/2016): (from 30+ year old vines.) A notably sauvage nose displays an abundance of earth and underbrush on the cool, ripe and admirably pure black cherry and cassis aromas. This is also firm, intense and serious with robust medium weight flavors that terminate in a moderately rustic and austere finale that delivers excellent depth and length. This is terrific but note well that unlike the Blanchards it's going to require plenty of cellar time. Drink 2029+. Outstanding! |

BH 90-92 (1/2016): Reduction. Here too there is fine volume and concentration to the round but muscular middle weight plus flavors that possess more volume but less minerality on the delicious and supple if mildly rustic finish. I very much like the balance and overall depth and this is a wine that should be approachable young yet reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring. Drink 2026+. VM 90-92 (1/2016): (the Arlauds have gotten this fruit from 60-year-old vines through a fermage arrangement since 2004): Good bright red. Lively aromas of black raspberry, spices and violet. Juicy, fruity, spicy and fresh; very ripe but not a fleshy style. Finishes with noteworthy verve and punch, and the spine to reward aging. This dark clay and calcaire soil would probably be great for Chardonnay, noted Cyprien Arlaud. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90-92 (12/2015): The 2014 Morey St Denis 1er Cru les Blanchards demonstrated more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the 2014 Millandes out of barrel: wild strawberry, raspberry and a touch of cassis. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with sappy ripe black fruit, more citric than the Millandes with a sense of nascent energy coming through on the finish. This is very fine Les Blanchards and it should age with style. |

| BH 91 (4/2017): ( the 5+ ha Clos is composed of approximately 80% Petits Epenots and 20% Grands Epenots; the vine ages run from 18 to 75+ years of age.) This is markedly reduced at present so I would strongly suggest decanting it if you are tempted to open a bottle young. Otherwise the supple, round and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors possess a sleek muscularity and solid intensity, all wrapped in a lingering finish that presently displays a hint of an edge that may or may not ever round off. As such my rating is a compromise as I suspect that this will develop even better complexity with age and thus even if the balance isn't perfect, the '14 Clos des Epeneaux should still make for a lovely wine. Drink 2024+. |

VM 93-96 (1/2016): (100% vendange entier; 80% new oak): Deep red-ruby. Alluring aromas of black raspberry, licorice and minerals show a noble, deep vegetal nuance that reminded me of a young Romanee-Conti. The youthfully unevolved middle palate displays the depth, pliancy and freshness of the vintage at its best. Finishes extremely long and ripely tannic, with palate-saturating sweetness and mineral pungency. These 90-year-old vines were originally planted by the father of Robert Arnoux, according to Pascal, who added that the estate's vines in Suchots are even older, at 94. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2017): (from a .375 ha parcel situated by La Grande Rue.) An even more elegant nose of spicy and floral red and black pinot fruit is nuanced by subtle traces of sandalwood, Asian-style tea, soy and anise. There is fine concentration to the relatively powerful sappy and mouth coating flavors that are shaped by wonderfully fine-grained tannins on the hugely long, balanced and moderately austere finale. This terrific and notably powerful effort is also quite silky yet it should have zero difficulty rewarding at least 15 to 20 years of cellar time. Drink 2029+. |

| BH 90 (1/2017): (a 1 ha blend of Groseilles, Baudes, Noirots and Gruenchers, which interestingly are all bunched together, geographically speaking.) An exceptionally pretty and airy array of red pinot fruit, lavender and once again a hint of spice introduces slightly bigger and richer flavors that exhibit excellent delineation on the tighter and firmer finale. This should be approachable young but reward up to a decade of cellar time. Drink 2020+. |

BH 93 (4/2016): (from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) A ripe but restrained nose features notes of both red and dark berry fruit, earth, humus, smoke and exotic tea scents along with a background hint of oak toast. There is impressive volume to the well-muscled and broad-shouldered flavors that possess plenty of underlying tension, all wrapped in a complex, rustic and lingering finish that is less austere than usual. This beauty will require at least a decade to be at its best. Drink 2024+. VM 90-93 (1/2016): (aged in 75% new oak, but Boillot used 350-liter barrels to get more freshness): Healthy dark red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, chocolate, menthol and herbs are less fruity today than the Volnays here. Large-scaled, round and sweet, showing more complex, soil-driven salinity than easy fruit in the early going. Powerful material here. Finishes saline, ripely tannic and long. This wine may need a solid eight years in the cellar to approach maturity. |

BH 93 (4/2016): (from equally sized parcels in both Rugiens Hauts and Bas that measure <1 ha.) A wonderfully elegant and slightly fresher nose is composed by notes of cool wild red berries, stone and intense floral aromas that are also trimmed in discreet wood. There is really lovely detail to the refined yet muscular and powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of minerality on the firmly structured and youthfully austere finish. This is definitely going to need at least 7 to 8 years of cellaring and should easily reward 10 to 12. Drink 2024+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2016): (50% of the crop was lost to hail, but Volnay production in 2014 was down closer to 75%, according to Guillaume Boillot; half from Rugiens Hauts and half from Rugiens Bas; 50% new oak):Bright, dark, healthy red. Inviting iron-y perfume of redcurrant, red cherry, rust, spices, white pepper and minerals. Silky in texture and intense, communicating insinuating soil salinity to its red fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes with noble tannins and rising spicy length. For such a fine-grained wine, this boasts terrific thrust. WA 91 (1/2016): The 2014 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens has a fragrant bouquet, almost Volnay-like, gentle and caressing with scents of raspberry and cranberry, contained but pure. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, sappy red berry fruit here with a pleasing saline element towards the finish. There is very prudent use of new oak here and the wine really shows its terroir to good effect. Very fine. |

BH 91 (4/2016): A deft touch of wood sets off the ripe, pure and elegant aromas of spice and floral-inflected dark pinot fruit and plum scents. There is excellent delineation and energy to the tension-filled, rich and complex medium-bodied flavors that possess a lush, even opulent mouth feel yet the finish is borderline robust. In sum this is a Santenots of contrasts but I like the interplay of different elements. Drink 2021+. VM 89-92 (1/2016): Bright, dark red. Subtly complex dark red fruits, flowers and chocolate on the nose. Plush and silky on the palate, possessing good buffering material to support the fairly strong tannins. This seamless, vinous wine shows no easy sweetness but boasts excellent sappy vinosity. Incidentally, the Boillots recently sold their vines in Savigny-lès-Beaune and Beaune in order to buy some Puligny-Montrachet. |

JM 93 (9/2017): Bright, with medium intensity. Lively nose, some raspberry and pepper notes. But there is good weight on the palate with some darker notes, the stems impart a little dryness but not too much. WA 91 (10/2017): Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Chevillon's 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Cailles feels a little diffuse on the nose at first. Those scents of raspberry, bergamot and pomegranate feel rather disparate, as if they need to be lassoed together. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin: the fruit a little darker and the texture grainier than expected. The winemaking comes through a little more strongly than I expected here, and the finish feels a little gruff at the moment. I am sure that bottle age will ultimately smooth over the rough edges here, so just be patient. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2016): An elegant, pure and airy nose offers up notes of red cherry, pomegranate, lavender and a hint of earth. This lovely effort will need at least a decade of bottle age. Drink 2024+. |

| BH 93 (4/2016): (typically made from 6 or 7 different 1ers depending on whether the parcel of Les Baudes is included.) As one would reasonably expect this is much more elegant with its highly perfumed and ultra-pure essence of red currant and wide ranging floral elements that are trimmed in sandalwood and anise nuances. The stony and saline middle weight flavors possess laser-like delineation along with good richness and volume, all wrapped in a firm and ever-so-mildly austere finale that also makes it clear that this is built-to-age, indeed it will very like require 10 to 12 years of bottle age to reach its apogee. In a word, terrific. Drink 2024+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

BH 92 (1/2017): (from a .33 ha of 50+ year old vines that abut Cazetiers; 70% stems.) Also deep ruby color. A discreet application of wood frames the spicy, pure, airy and cool nose that features red and black currant, floral, earth and sauvage hints. There is almost painful intensity to the dense, serious and mouth coating flavors that also exhibit an abundance of minerality on the balanced, refined and solidly persistent finish. Textbook Champeaux. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2016): Bright medium ruby Savory aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate, liquid smoke and animal fur. At once silky and bracing, displaying excellent definition and lift to its flavors of blueberry, blackberry and licorice. Finishes juicy and long, with serious but fine-grained tannins and lively blackberry and violet notes. This really spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate and glistens on the aftertaste. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 94 (1/2017): This is markedly more restrained with its reluctant but distinctly floral aromas of brooding dark berry fruit, earth, sauvage and hints of dried herbal tea. There is excellent volume, concentration and imposing power to the big-bodied flavors that deliver plenty of minerality and outstanding persistence on the robust and austere but balanced finish. This classically proportioned Clos de la Roche is indisputably going to require extended keeping. Drink 2031+. |

BH 89-91 (1/2016): (from Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes.) A discreet application of wood serves as a neutral backdrop for the dark berry fruit and earth scents. The rich, suave and appealingly energetic middle weight flavors possess fine volume while delivering solid depth and length on the relatively robust and firm finale. Patience. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! VM 88-90 (1/2016): Musky aromas of black cherry, brown spices and smoky soil tones; more aromatic today than the Chambolle villages. Sweet and harmonious but also juicy and firmly built, showing more flavor definition than the Chambolle. Finishes with good spine and persistence. Stephen Tanzer. WA 85-87 (12/2015): The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis Rouge Village has a straightforward bouquet with blackberry and boysenberry scents. The palate is well balanced with chalky tannin, a touch of cassis come through with a correct and linear, quite saline finish that lacks a little body. This is very...Morey, and that's a good thing. Drink over the next 3-4 years. |

BH 90-92 (1/2016): (the blend is <70% Ruchots with the balance in Clos Sorbe, Millandes and Charrières.) Here too there is a discreet touch of wood that easily allows the black pinot fruit, earth and sauvage aromas to shine. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the beautifully defined medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive mouth feel, all wrapped in a balanced and lingering finale. This is not especially concentrated but I like the depth and delivery. Drink 2024+. VM 89-91 (1/2016): Healthy dark red. Lovely lift to the aromas of blackberry, blackberry and spicy underbrush. Densely packed, broad and sweet; spreads out horizontally on the palate but retains a juicy quality to its dark berry and spice flavors. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins and very good length. Stephen Tanzer. WA 88-90 (12/2015): The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru is a blend of four vineyards: les Ruchots, les Millandes, les Sorbes and Charrières. It has a pretty, contained, precise bouquet with blackberry and bilberry fruit. The palate is crisp and saline in the mouth, tightly knit tannin with a linear and structured finish. It will need a little time to fan out once in bottle, so give it 2-3 years. |

| BH 93-95 (1/2016): A fresh, cool and moderately restrained nose speaks of various red and dark berries along with plenty of iron-inflected earth, animale and pretty floral nuances. The lush, even opulent flavors certainly don't lack for size, weight and power as they coat the palate while buffering the notably firm tannic spine on the muscular, driving and wonderfully persistent finish. This too is impressively concentrated and built-to-age. Drink 2031+. Don't miss! |

| VM 94 (3/2017): Healthy medium red. Sexy, complex aromas of strawberry, crushed stone and rose petal convey a captivating combe coolness. Wonderfully concentrated and bright, combining classic 2014 salty minerality with superb fruit intensity. Boasts the kind of restrained generosity of fruit that reminds me of the '99s in the early going. A compelling, saline vin de terroir but not a powerhouse. The long, rising finish features very suave tannins. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 93 (1/2017): (from a 1.08 ha mix of younger and older vines that average about 50+ years of age.) Here too there is a subtle application of wood setting off the intensely spicy and overtly sauvage aromas of mostly cassis and black raspberry aromas that are also liberally laced with warm earth and green tea nuances. The muscular big-bodied flavors possess real power and punch along with ample minerality before terminating in a hugely long, complex and well-balanced finale. As it always is this is distinctly old school in style and will definitely require extended cellaring. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! VM 91-94 (1/2016): Dark red-ruby. Tight, medicinal aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate and menthol. Very rich and deep, with captivating sweetness cut by medicinal menthol and minerals. Highly concentrated, dense and broad but uncompromisingly dry. Finishes very long and perfumed, with serious saline tension. This very impressive premier cru has a big tannic structure and may well close down after the bottling. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90-92 (12/2015): The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains, cropped at 26 hectoliters per hectare, was just a little loose-knit on the nose when I tasted it at the domaine, perhaps missing the cohesion of the Pruliers. The palate pulls things together with slightly savory red berry fruit, fine tannin and well judged acidity. There is a chalky note coming through on the finish and a spiciness that comes through on the aftertaste. Again, classic in style, at the moment the palate is leading the way and waiting for the nose to catch up. |

VM 90 (4/2017): Moderately saturated medium red Livelier on the nose than the Charmois, with scents of black cherry, graphite and dark chocolate lifted by a floral quality At once sweet and savory on the palate, with lovely acidity framing the red berry and cherry fruit flavors and extending the finish Suaver and more pliant than the Charmois but the wine's more serious tannins and an element of peppery lift on the back end call for at least a couple years of patience. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (1/2017): Here the expressive and overtly spicy nose is fresh and lovely with its floral, herbal tea, plum and cassis-suffused aromas. There is fine richness to the succulent and fleshy medium weight flavors that possess a relatively refined mouth feel thanks to the fine grain of the supporting tannins on the sappy and well-balanced finale. This is a terrific Vosne villages and highly recommended. |

WA 92-94 (12/2015): The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru clearly has the best bouquet amongst the A.F. Gros range: wonderful, minerally red berry fruit, dried flowers and just a hint of warm gravel in the background. It gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin. The acidity is very well judged and there is a creamy texture lending harmony to this Richebourg. I do think it is the most complex Richebourg I have tasted from the domaine in recent years, but it is one of the most sensual. Give it 8-10 years in bottle so that it can show what it can do. BH 91-93 (4/2016): ( the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) Once again there is also enough oak influence to notice though not enough to appreciably detract from the high-toned and overtly spicy red currant, violet and plum-suffused nose. There is a lovely minerality to the supple and forward middle weight plus flavors where the mid-palate is almost soft. This is a somewhat curious showing as I like the refinement and impressive length but the depth is at present only average. My range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will revert to its usual level of quality in time. Drink 2026+. |

| BH 91-94 (4/2016): (from a parcel measuring 7ouvrees, or around .3 ha of 40+ year old vines.) A gorgeously spiced nose offers up notes of plum, kirsch, earth, lilac and violet nuances. There is excellent mid-palate concentration to the intensely mineral-driven and impressively rich medium-bodied flavors that possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in a wonderfully complex, persistent and well-balanced finale. This is well worth considering. Drink 2026+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| BH 90 (4/2017): (from 45+ year old vines that sit just above Champans.)This is also beautifully well-layered with its broad-ranging nose of red currant, pomegranate, earth, floral and spice-suffused aromas. As is usually the case this is both bigger and more powerful if not quite as elegant with a similar level of mid-palate concentration where the copious dry extract does a reasonably good if not perfect job of buffering the firm tannic spine on the impressively long if slightly edgy finish. This has many positive attributes but the balance isn't quite perfect. Drink 2022+. |

| VM 89-91 (1/2016): (these vines are now 53 years old): Healthy bright red. Very ripe red fruit aromas are complemented by smoky minerality. Ripe and creamy-sweet in the mid-palate, then clamps down on the back end, finishing taut and long, with excellent cut and stony grip. Should make an outstanding village wine. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 93 (3/2017): (13% alcohol; less than 20 hectoliters per hectare produced): Good bright red. Pretty aromas of dark cherry, menthol and dark chocolate. Rich, broad, ripe and dry; more mouthfilling than the foregoing samples but still with a light touch. (The pH here is 3.4, but Lafon noted that the '15s have lower pHs and higher acidity.) Lovely depth to the fruit, spice and soil tones. Finishes very long, with refined tannins, superb energy and excellent balance. This will probably be accessible relatively early, like the Monthelie. Stephen Tanzer. BH 92 (4/2017): (from 40+ year old vines planted in shallow, high clay content soil sitting on a bed of solid rock.) An elegant, cool and beautifully complex nose displays a discreetly spicy array of red berries plum, violets, tea and a wisp of warm earth. There is really lovely delineation to the concentrated and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that exhibit a taut muscularity while remaining refined and well-balanced on the firm but not austere finale. This is often a very impressive wine chez Lafon but in 2014 it is a bit more elegant than usual. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

| BH 91-94 (1/2016): (from 3 different parcels, one at the bottom and two at the top but on opposite sides.) A gentle application of wood sets off the intensely earthy dark currant and slightly gamy aromas. This resembles the Malconsorts in terms of its robust muscularity on the broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent punch while delivering a touch of animale character on the youthfully austere and persistent finish. This isn't a wine of finesse but it is impressively scaled and clearly built-to-age. Drink 2026+. |

WA 93-95 (12/2015): The 2014 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is matured in 50% new oak and is 100% whole bunch fruit. It is blessed with a winsome bouquet. As usual, there is something very natural, unimposing and refined on the nose: blackberry and briary, a hint of graphite, a subtle leafiness maybe, and yet delineated and very pure. The palate is lively and energetic with crisp tannin, black rather than red fruit, linear and very classic in style with what you might call a "cool" marine-influenced finish that has fine salinity. What a great Clos des Lambrays that will put a smile on the face of those that adore refined Burgundy. VM 92-94 (1/2016): (Taupenot makes less than a barrel of wine annually from a tiny parcel planted in 1975 at the bottom of the Clos des Lambrays): Slightly hazy medium red. A deep earthy perfume complements aromas of raspberry, spices and dried flowers. A bit imploded but surprisingly fresh and vibrant on the palate, with flavors of raspberry and flowers tweaked by a pungent blood orange note. The very long, slowly mounting finish features slightly tight tannins, a subtle saline quality and considerable finesse."This is never a powerful style, but more about length and charm," noted Taupenot. Still, this beauty will need at least seven or eight years of bottle aging. BH 91-94 (1/2016): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 50+ years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 25+ years of age; made with 100% whole clusters.) A notably spicy, fresh, cool and floral nose displays mostly red berry fruit scents that are trimmed in discreet wood notes. There is excellent cut and definition to the nicely rich and attractively textured flavors that culminate in a presently austere finale though I doubt that austerity will persist. This is a relatively fine and forward vintage for Clos des Lambrays and one that should be approachable after only 7 to 8 years of bottle age. Drink 2026+. |

| VM 93 (3/2017): Slightly dull medium red. The nose offers compelling complexity, with black raspberry and redcurrant aromas complemented by dried flowers, licorice, smoky oak and sweet earth. Plush, broad and seamless, displaying liqueur-like ripeness but also sound acidity to frame its red fruit flavors. Savory herb and earth notes add interest. Finishes sweet and long, with substantial broad, dusty tannins and an element of deep smoky minerality that gave the wine increasing appeal with extended aeration. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 91-93 (1/2016): Medium red. Aromas of coffee and smoke, plus a suggestion of marc de Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Supple and thick but withdrawn in the early going, offering mocha, mint and earth flavors and a strong salty element. Very tactile, soil-inflected wine but not sweet or fruity today. | VM 95 (5/2017): The 2014 Clos de la Roche is bright, focused and finely cut. Translucent and wiry in style, the 2014 speaks to precision above all else. The flavors and textures are wonderfully chiseled throughout. Red-toned fruits, chalk and floral notes abound. Today, the 2014 is fabulous. It won’t be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is terrific just the same. This is a textbook expression of Clos de la Roche. Antonio Galloni. |

There is fine richness and excellent volume to the concentrated, intense and serious medium-bodied flavors that possess fine punch and focused power on the mouth coating and persistent finish. While this is just as powerful as the Baudes it's not quite as firm and should be approachable a few years earlier if desired. (Drink starting 2022). |

| VM 92+ (3/2017): Bright medium red Broader on the nose than the Chaffots (all of these wines spent 20 months on their lees, according to Laurent Lignier), with its musky aromas of strawberry, raspberry and smoky minerality enlivened by a note of rose petal Pungent, very intense flavors of cranberry and raspberry are given added punch by hints of crushed rock and orange zest Delivers lovely density, size and aromatic complexity There's nothing the least bit off-vintage about this long, perfumed wine Conveys a slightly lower-acid impression than the Chaffots but with no shortage of juiciness or energy The tannins are firm but suave (Drink between 2023-2033). BH 91-94 (1/2016): This is markedly more floral on the equally cool and airy red and dark currant scents that are also laced with discreet spice and earth nuances. There is excellent intensity and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that deliver even more minerality on the impressively complex and persistent finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than it typically is. Patience will be required. (Drink starting 2029). VM 91-93 (1/2016): Bright red with ruby tones. Distinctly wilder on the nose than the Vigne au Saint, offering scents of cherry, raspberry and animal fur. At once juicier and deeper, displaying terrific flavor intensity and inner-mouth perfume but kept tight by sound underlying minerality. Méo finds this wine less strict than usual but it will still need at least four or five years of aging upon release. Stephen Tanzer. WA 91-93 (12/2015): The 2014 Corton les Perrières Grand Cru has a very pure red cherry and fresh strawberry-scented bouquet with superb delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, quite grippy in the mouth and with more density than the 2014 Corton la Vigne Au Saint. The fruit turns toward dark red/black at the finish that has fine salinity. It does not quite match the Corton Clos Rognet, yet it is still a grand cru in the true sense of the word. |

| BH 90-92 (1/2016): Once again there is a discreet but not invisible application of wood setting off the very Vosne-like nose of Asian-style tea, sandalwood, violet, dark berry and a lovely mix of spice elements. The spiciness continues onto the supple and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a delicious and lingering finish. This isn't as concentrated as the Boudots and it's not quite as structured either but it is certainly pretty and should drink well sooner. |

| BH 89-92 (4/2016): In the same fashion as the Perrières there is quite a bit of wood and menthol character surrounding the otherwise fresh and pretty aromas of plum, spice and floral-scented nose. The intense and highly energetic middle weight flavors possess a discreet minerality and really lovely detail before culminating in a firm and mildly austere finish. This is a classic Mitans of delicacy and harmony. |

| VM 90 (3/2017): Healthy medium red. Musky aromas of black cherry, smoke, mocha and sweet oak. A tightly coiled wine of moderate flesh, this village bottling offers nicely delineated flavors of dark berries, licorice, bitter chocolate and earth complicated by a saline minerality that no doubt comes from the higher-altitude parcels that go into the blend. This very successful village wine should maintain its energy. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92 (1/2017): This is the first wine to display any appreciable wood with its cooler and even spicier combination of red current, cassis and pretty violet scents. The utterly delicious and more mineral-inflected middle weight flavors possess lovely underlying tension before culminating in a refined finale that displays a discreet touch of youthful austerity. This is also very good stuff and worth considering. (Drink starting 2022). VM 92 (6/2024): The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a very attractive bouquet that has a little more fruit and vigor than its peers. Blackberries, morels and leather touches come through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, but there is a little more flesh compared to others. Hickory-tinged red fruit with a dash of Chinese 5-spice appear towards the finish. Drinking perfectly now, but I sense that it would improve with decanting. (Drink between 2023-2033). Neal Martin. WA 91 (10/2017): Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots has a vivacious, open and generous bouquet lavished with black cherries, cassis and wild strawberry fruit that is succinctly interwoven into the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied and quite sumptuous on the entry, more primal than its peers with plenty of black cherry and strawberry fruit, a fine thread of acidity and a very pure finish. It still has a long way to go, but this gutsy Nuits-Saint-Georges from Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée at Mugneret-Gibourg has potential. Tasted September 2017. |

| BH 92 (1/2017): A more restrained and more elegant nose displays a mix of cool dark berries that is liberally spiked with earth and spice elements. There is once again a really lovely texture to the rich and relatively refined medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the dusty and almost chalky finish. This too should be approachable young yet it has the balance and underlying material to age well too. (Drink starting 2024). |

BH 93 (1/2022): This is aromatically quite discreet with its subtly perfumed nose that is composed of plum, dark cherry, violet, lavender and orange pekoe tea plus the first hints of secondary development. This is at once silky but powerful with plenty of minerality characterizing the velvet-textured big-bodied flavors that coat the mouth with dry extract that also serves to buffer the markedly firm tannic spine on the balanced and hugely long but presently compact finish. This classy and very stylish effort is still sufficiently backward to need close to another decade in a cool cellar though with that said, it's not so tightly wound as to be completely impenetrable if decanted for an hour first. I would add that I will want to see how the fruit evolves relative to the structure because based on this bottle, the nose is a bit more evolved. Drink starting 2029. VM 96.5 (3/2017): Bright medium red More expressive on the nose today than the Amoureuses, offering ineffable scents of black raspberry, lavender and flinty, smoky minerality By far the plushest and deepest of these 2014s but still with outstanding definition and verve This wonderfully fine-grained, classically dry Musigny boasts bulletproof fruit and finishes with impressive medicinal reserve Beginning with the 2013 Musigny, Mugnier will be delaying the release of his top bottling for a minimum of two years--and possibly several years more than that--as he finds this wine especially hard to read in its extreme youth. Drink between 2026-2040. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 88-91 (4/2016): Here too the nose is exceptionally fresh if somewhat somber with its layered array of ripe black cherry, plum, violet and earth aromas. There is fine richness to the notably round middle weight flavors that are blessed with good volume and a succulent texture where the moderately firm but well-balanced finish is again mildly rustic and austere. (Drink starting 2021). WA 88-90 (12/2015): The 2014 Pommard Village la Croix Blanche is usually blended with Pommard Noizons...at least when it is not being destroyed 100% by hail. It has a punchy blackcurrant and iodine-tinged bouquet that is quite Volnay-like. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy texture, a little disjointed at the moment but it will coalesce with time. There is good salinity on the finish here and the 35% new oak is nicely integrated. This should grow up to be a thoroughly decent Pommard. |

This trades a bit of elegance in favor of more aromatic complexity on the cool and pure mix of red currant, earth and game that exhibits discreet floral top notes that are trimmed in discreet wood nuances. There is both fine volume and intensity to the punchy flavors that are more refined than usual thanks to the fine grain of the supporting tannins on the attractively well-balanced and persistent finish. VM 92 (3/2017): Light-medium red. Wonderfully scented nose combines strawberry, cherry, dried rose and earth. Very pure, silky wine with subtle sweetness and a seamless texture to its sappy fruit, spice and saline mineral flavors. Boasts a terrific combination of thickness and energy. Most impressive today on the unflagging, classically dry finish, which leaves behind a cherry perfume. Really positive use of whole clusters here. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-92 (1/2016): (from a blend of 3 1ers that include Corbeaux, En Ergot and Combottes.) Here too there is a discreet application of wood framing the overtly floral aromas that include both lavender and rose along with notes of earth and freshly crushed red berries. The beautifully sleek and intense middle weight flavors exhibit an appealing hint of minerality on the refined, balanced and dusty finish. Lovely and understated. Drink 2024+. |

BH 95 (1/2017): (from 3 different parcels that total 2 ha; 50% whole cluster.) This possesses an intensely floral nose with its equally cool and restrained array of rose, lavender and violet scents that add elegance to the distinctly spicy and earthy red and dark berry fruit scents that are also tinged by herbal tea nuances. There is excellent volume to the fleshy yet well-detailed and explicitly powerful big-bodied flavors that exhibit excellent power on the palate staining and hugely long finish. This intensely mineral-driven effort is most impressive but again note well that I would recommend buying this only if you have the requisite patience to cellar it accordingly as it's absolutely going to need it. As an aside it's going to be very interesting to see over time which wine among these three grands crus is ultimately the most interesting. Drink 2032+. VM 94+ (3/2017): Palish medium red, like most of these 2014s. Subdued, musky, soil-driven scents of raspberry, plum, spices, flowers and earth. Wonderfully tactile and deep but a bit youthfully brooding today and distinctly less sexy and sweet than the Latricières. Salty minerality currently overshadows the wine's red fruits and flowers but this remarkably thick wine boasts the most authoritative, gripping finish of this set of 2014s. I suspect that extended aging will bring an even higher score but this wine is going to need a long time in a cool cellar. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 95+ (3/2017): Bright, dark red. Knockout nose offers most of the Musigny food groups: raspberry, cherry, earth, wild herbs, flowers and minerals, plus a leathery nuance. Pungent and extremely intense but utterly weightless owing to its near-perfect balance of sweetness and juiciness. Best today on the explosive, building back end, which offers a powerfully chewy, sappy impression but no rough edges. Winemaker François Millet suggests waiting at least 10 to 15 years. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2017): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) While highly complex this is cool to the point of only grudgingly revealing a strikingly layered combination of violets, rose petals, sandalwood, anise, clove, plum and dark currant scents. This is a big and overtly muscular wine with broad-shouldered and admirably concentrated flavors yet for all of the impressive size, weight and volume, the massively long finish is serene, even Zen-like. 2014 is a relatively seductive and forward vintage for this storied wine, and I appreciate that calling a wine "forward" when it will likely need 20 years to fully mature is a relative concept! There is excellent volume to the big-bodied, intense and muscular yet seductively textured medium weight plus flavors, all wrapped in an overtly powerful and long finish. Plenty of patience will also be required. Drink 2029+. VM 94 (3/2017): Very good deep, healthy red. The most floral of these 2014s, conveying lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of black fruits, spices and honeysuckle. Communicates wonderful ripeness and detail without any impression of heaviness or weight. Really superb energy here, no doubt partly due to the vinification with 80% whole clusters. Most impressive today on the very long, fine-grained finish, where the savory red fruit and blackberry flavors build slowly and linger long. This should be long-lived. Stephen Tanzer. |
