BH 92-94 (1/2014): (from vines next to the wall by Grands Echezeaux; 40% whole cluster) Relatively heavy reduction renders the nose unreadable. There is excellent richness, size, weight and power to the medium weight plus flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract that buffers well the firm tannic spine on the strikingly long finish. This is austere but not really rustic and should amply reward mid to long-term cellaring. Drink 2027+. VM 91-93 (1/2014): (50% vendange entier): Bright medium red. Candied red cherry and redcurrant aromas are accented by pepper and fresh herbs. Juicy, spicy and bright, showing lovely cut and energy to the red fruit and mineral flavors. The youthfully firm tannins are a bit tough today but the finish displays attractive floral lift. |

WA 88-90 (6/2015): The 2012 Bourgogne comes from two parcels in “Les Pressonnier” and “Les Grand Champs” and sees no new oak. It has a captivating bouquet of brambly black fruit that is very well defined. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit on the entry, nicely judged acidity and a natural, pastille-like finish. This is uncomplicated but astutely crafted, downright delicious Burgundy. VM 88-90 (1/2014): A great introduction to the vintage here, Bachelet's 2012 Bourgogne is endowed with superb depth and purity in its class. Red stone fruits, plums, spices, menthol and licorice inform this striking, expressive beauty. There is a surprising amount of structure for a Bourgogne. (Drink between 2014-2020). Antonio Galloni. BH 87-89 (1/2014): There is a gentle touch of wood to the spicy red and dark berry fruit aromas that convey a real sense of earth that carries over to the impressively rich and utterly delicious flavors that despite the obvious ripeness retain a fine sense of energy and freshness on the lingering finish. This is a really good Bourgogne and absolutely worth a look. (Drink starting 2016). |

| BH 89-91 (1/2014): (from vines averaging between 60 and 70 years of age.) There is enough wood to be easily perceptible though not so much as to impede an appreciation of the spicy dark berry fruit, earth and underbrush suffused nose. The seductively textured medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety mouth feel thanks to the abundance of palate coating dry extract that also does a fine job of buffering the moderately firm tannic spine on the ever-so-slightly rustic finish. A fine Gevrey villages. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

VM 95+ (3/2015): Full medium red. Cool, aristocratic aromas of cherry, pepper, espresso and medicinal herbs complicated by notes of game, smoky minerals and crushed stone. Utterly seamless on the palate, showing an exotic fruit quality to the perfumed flavors of red berries and flowers. Boasts wonderful energy for 2012: this really glistens on the palate and on the rising back end. A wine of great definition and grip, finishing with noble, smooth tannins and superb sappy length. VM 94-96 (1/2014): A wine of endless layers of flavor, the 2012 Chambertin Clos de Bèze, wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and pure texture. Sweet tobacco, wild flowers, new leather and succulent red cherries all blossom on the close. The inclusion of 50% whole clusters gives the Bèze gorgeous aromatic lift that works as a counterpoint to some of the richer flavors. An exotic melange of blue and black-toned fruit, violets, spices and menthol all blossom on the finish. I very much like the intensity here. BH 91-94 (4/2014): There is plenty of floral character to the markedly spicy mix of very fresh red berry fruit liqueur aromas that are trimmed in a background application of oak. The cool, pure and restrained middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality that adds lift to the delicious, round and impressively long finish. I like the underlying material and while this is a good deal less complex than several wines in the range, my score offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink 2024+. WA 91-93 (12/2013): The 2012 Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru has a perfumed, floral bouquet with scents of black cherries, creme de cassis and minerals that is very attractive, even at this primal stage. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm, introspective opening and henceforth it never really goes out to entertain: broody and saturnine, piqued that it is being viewed so prematurely. Like the Mazis-Chambertin, it needs just a little more warmth of personality to filter through and indeed, returning to my sample after just three of four minutes aeration, there are some interesting spicy notes surfacing towards the finish. Give this grand cru five or six years in bottle. |

VM 90 (3/2015): Bright, dark red. Sweet red berries, nutty oak and subtle soil tones on the nose. Fat, sweet and spicy, showing good fullness for village wine. Savory, serious Volnay with good vinosity and density and a saline complexity. Finishes with broad, building, ripe tannins and good savory persistence. Antonio Galloni. BH 88 (4/2014): (Entirely from 5 different 1ers). An earthy and distinctly ripe nose of cassis, plum and soft floral aromas gives way to equally earthy middle weight flavors where once again the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. The finale is firm without being rustic though there is enough youthful austerity to notice. This should reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2018+. |

| VM 93-95 (1/2014): Violets, licorice, blueberries and graphite are some of the many notes that take shape in the 2012 Volnay Les Santenots. There is more than enough structure to support the fruit in a dramatic, large-scaled Burgundy that captures the essence of the year in its explosive personality. This intense, powerful Volnay need serious time in the cellar. A generous, beautifully resonant finish rounds things off. Antonio Galloni. |

BH 92 (4/2014): There is a trace of reduction present but not enough to materially detract from the violet, plum and liqueur-like dark currant aromas that are trimmed in a discreet application of wood. There is a beguiling sense of underlying tension to the broad-shouldered, rich, intense and like the Clos de la Mousse, relatively powerful flavors that exude a fine minerality on the serious, balanced and saline-inflected finish. This should be excellent in time though note that patience will be required. Drink 2024+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 91 (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vignes de l'Enfant Jesus has a crisp, tensile bouquet that seems to show more freshness and vitality than its peers. There are bright red cherries mixed with damson and citrus fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well judged acidity. The oak is well integrated and there is plenty of freshness and tension on the finish. This is one of the best Beaune Grèves of the vintage. VM 91 (3/2015): Full medium red. Highly aromatic nose combines redcurrant, black raspberry, mellow spices, leather, menthol, smoke and candied flowers. Sweet, pliant and deep, offering a fine-grained texture and a touch of medicinal reserve to its black raspberry and spice flavors. Finishes suave and firm, with lingering sweetness and a firm spine for mid-term aging. |

| BH 91 (4/2015): There are floral and herbal tea characters suffusing the black cherry and earth aromas. The textured, intense and well-detailed middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality on the overtly austere, persistent finish. This is also quite serious and will clearly need most of a decade of bottle age to arrive at its peak. (Drink starting 2020). |

| BH 90-92 (4/2014): Here the nose contrasts high-toned and elegant dark currant, plum and floral aromas against distinctly earthy and slightly sauvage scents. This too is worth checking out. |

| WA 90 (6/2015): The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Bousselots has a mature bouquet, plenty of sous-bois notes: black truffle and Ceps and a sprig of mint. BH 92 (4/2015): This is quite ripe though it stops short of being surmature with its nose of plum liqueur, mocha, black cherry and earth aromas. There is exceptionally good richness to the very suave and succulent medium weight flavors that are supported by phenolically mature tannins on the mouth coating finish. This is a big and overtly powerful wine yet it's not especially rustic or austere. Drink 2024+. Outstanding! VM 90 (3/2015): (these 2012s were bottled in September of 2014): Good dark red. Wild, very ripe aromas of raspberry, dried flowers and wild herbs. Dark berry flavors display a juicy character along with a note of chocolatey ripeness. An outperformer for this cru, finishing with substantial but tasty tannins and lovely persistence. I underestimated this wine last year. WA 87-89 (12/2013): The 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Croix Noires has a feminine, quite elegant bouquet with scents of raspberry preserve, redcurrant jus and light mushroom scents. The palate is sweet and composed on the entry. There is a noticeable saline element to this Pommard that shows rigidity and structure towards the slightly clipped finish. |

| VM 92 (2/2019): Medium yellow. Very sexy scents of ripe stone fruits, minerals, clove and menthol, plus a suggestion of redcurrant and a Batard-like toasty nuance. Large-scaled, plush and powerful but also quite fine-grained, with salty minerality and a repeating menthol element carrying through to a palate-staining finish. There's lovely supporting acidity here for such a rich, ripe wine. A touch of sweetness gives this complex, chewy premier cru some early appeal but there's much more to come here. (I should note that my first bottle showed a deeper yellow color. It was sweet and silky but displayed more evolved notes of ripe apricot, marzipan and white chocolate, as well as a balsamic element, almost certainly due to a bad cork or cork seal. Veronique Drouhin admitted that her family had some cork problems in 2012.) Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 90 (1/2015): The reduction this displayed last year from barrel is still present even if there is less of it. There is good freshness and energy to the supple and well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the balanced finish where a trace of austerity is present. VM 92 (3/2015): Medium red. Aromas of raspberry, woodsmoke and flowers complemented by sexy oak tones. Supple and velvety, with inviting flavors of strawberry, raspberry, game and earth supported by smoky minerality. At once juicy and harmonious, finishing with sweet red fruits. (Drink between 2020-2030). Stephen Tanzer. WA 91 (11/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is a little shy after its recent bottling, opening in the glass with aromas of wild berries and orange rind that are framed by a generous application of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and elegant, with lively acids, fine and powdery tannins and a precise finish. This is never going to challenge the lovely 2016 rendition, but by contrast, it will show all its cards with minimal bottle age. |

BH 93-95 (1/2014): The quality of this wine has skyrocketed over the past few vintages; while it was always very good, it has now become one of the most consistent performers in the Faiveley portfolio. There is quite a bit of wood influence at present and it fights a bit with the spicy dark berry fruit aromas that exhibit plenty of earth and game character. The impressively scaled and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess an opulent yet entirely serious mouth feel before culminating in a balanced, explosively and tremendously persistent finish. This is a bit woody today yet the underlying material is such that it seems all but evident that it will successfully integrate the oak in time. Drink 2032+. Don't miss! VM 93-96 (1/2014): Bright, deep red. Deep aromas of black cherry, crushed rock and graphite. Dense, sappy and energetic, offering Outstanding depth to its soil-driven black cherry and saline flavors. Delivers an uncanny combination of chewy texture and verve. Finishes with palate-staining length and lift, as tactile as a solid. A great vin de terroir for the cellar. |

BH 92-95 (1/2014): (from .89 ha parcel planted in 1910). This is more elegant still with an exuberantly spicy, airy and cool mix of raspberry, cherry, red currant and plenty of wet stone character. There is superb intensity to the mineral-driven, pure and ultra-refined middle weight flavors that are shaped by very fine-grained tannins on the moderately austere, balanced and wonderfully persistent finish. A classic Clos St. Jacques. Drink 2024+. Don't miss! Outstanding! WA 94-96 (12/2013): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques has a very precise bouquet with raspberry pastille, wild strawberry and a distant marine influence that is very pure. The palate is medium-bodied with a clean and pure opening, the mineralite only surfacing midway and then flourishing towards the complex, quite compelling finish. This is a very nuanced Clos Saint Jacques with a long spice tinged tail on the aftertaste. VM 94-97 (2/2014): Bright dark, fresh red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, minerals, rose petal and blood orange. Incredibly sappy, vibrant and imploded, showing Outstanding lift and cut to its red berry and floral flavors. Not quite opulent but utterly seamless wine, finishing with explosive length and fine-grained tannins. This wonderfully juicy Clos Saint-Jacques is hiding its underlying density today. This is now 12.8% alcohol, without chaptalization. |

VM 91-94 (2/2014): Good bright, deep red. Sexy, vibrant aromas of raspberry, crushed stone, red licorice and smoky minerality. Densely packed and sweet, with noteworthy blackberry and menthol intensity enlivened by smoky minerality and flowers. Very youthful wine with spice and licorice flavors extending the finish. A superb showing. BH 90-92 (1/2014): (A 2 ha parcel with a mix of 80% 75+ year old vines and the remainder of 15 to 20 year old vines). A brooding and pungently earthy nose mixes dark berry aromas with humus, underbrush and sauvage notes. There is very fine richness to the suave and quite round medium-bodied flavors that retain a lovely sense of vibrancy on the lingering finish. This is finer than the Porrets but less powerful. A qualitative choice. Drink 2022+. WA 90-92 (12/2013): The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers comes from 1.8-hectare parcel populated by young and old, 15- and 70-year-old vines. It has a broody, stony, undergrowth-tinged bouquet that unfolds with aeration whereupon it reveals evocative estuarine scents. The palate has a wonderful sense of symmetry and focus, if not quite the length of Gouge’s fellow 2012s. Therefore this may constitute early drinking albeit at a satisfyingly high level. |

BH 91-93 (4/2014): (From a .26 ha parcel of vines planted in 1931 in the climat Champs Traversin, which is occasionally referred to as Le Petit Citeaux.) Here the wood treatment is notably more discreet if not completely imperceptible as it allows the spice melange of red and black pinot fruit, plum, earth and sandalwood hints to be easily appreciated. There is fine volume and density to the velvety, mouth coating and seductively textured flavors that possess so much dry extract on the balanced finish that this could easily be enjoyed now though note well that there is plenty of development potential. This is really quite good. Drink 2022+. WA 89-91 (12/2013): The 2012 Echezeaux Grand Cru comes from 80-year-old vines and it is being raised in 80% new oak. It has a delightful, feminine bouquet with hints of white chocolate infusing the red berry fruit profile. It is a playful, quite joyful nose. The palate is well-balanced with fine tannins and a mixture of red and black fruit on the entry. It gathers weight towards the middle and then just steps off the gas towards the linear finish. It maintains fine balanced and there is an attractive tobacco note on the long aftertaste. Three to five barriques produced this year. |

WA 93-95 (12/2013): The 2012 Richebourg Grand Cru comes from the family’s 0.60-hectare parcel whose oldest vines are approaching retirement. It has a very refined, elegant bouquet that is actually more like a Romanee-Saint-Vivant at the moment. There are lovely scents of orange-blossom and quince emerging with time. The palate is well-balanced with a rounded, harmonious entry. It is silky smooth at the moment with a fine thread of acidity. It remains sedate, distant even but very sophisticated and the oak is very well assimilated towards the finish. Excellent. BH 91-94 (4/2014): (The Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) In much the same fashion as the Pezerolles this is presently very toasty and it's enough where the wood pushes the spicy black pinot fruit to the background if not completely hides it. The supple and very round large-scaled flavors possess excellent concentration and an intense minerality on the powerful and moderately austere finish. My predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt in this case because the wood does not alter the texture or sweeten the finish and thus there is a good chance that this will ultimately harmonize. Drink 2024+. |

WA 90-92 (12/2013): The 2012 Vosne-Romanee Aux Reas lies next to Clos des Reas and the two were originally the same parcel and were labelled premier and deuxieme cuvees. It is aged in 50% new oak. It has a precise, quite floral bouquet with hints of cassis and red currant scents, suggestions of vanilla pod coming through with aeration. It disguises the new wood well. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple entry, well-judged acidity and a velvety smooth finish with hints of white chocolate on the aftertaste. BH 89-91 (4/2014): Here too there is plenty of wood influence to the even spicier nose of mostly red currant and violet aromas. There is a caressing and highly seductive mouth feel to the concentrated medium weight flavors that possess fine volume before terminating in a slightly more structured and saline-infused finish where the wood, while not invisible, seems to be more completely integrated and does not sweeten the finish to the same degree as in the Fontaine. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

BH 92 (1/2015): Here the exuberant and wonderfully pure nose speaks of floral and both dark and red berry fruit aromas that display spicy top notes. There is good vibrancy and detail to the lilting and lacy middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the balanced and saline-inflected finish. I very much like the seductive mouth feel as well as the fine complexity on the impressively persistent finish. Lovely juice. (Drink starting 2022). VM 91 (3/2015): Moderately saturated medium red. Ripe strawberry and raspberry aromas are complicated by underbrush and dried flowers. Sweet, supple and fine-grained, with the red fruit flavors nicely framed by bright, harmonious acidity and complicated by savory minerality. Finishes with subtle salinity and lovely balance. VM 91 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Ripe, alluring aromas and flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and earth. Sweet, fine-grained and enveloping, showing lovely energy and density and still holding its fruit in reserve. Finishes fresh and firm-edged, with full, fine-grained tannins and excellent length. (Drink between 2021-2031). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90? (1/2015): A spicy and notably ripe nose features aromas of dark pinot fruit, red currant, blood orange and an abundance of spice elements that include anise and sandalwood. There is an elegant mouth feel to the luscious and generously proportioned middle weight flavors that possess a velvety texture, all wrapped in a beautifully complex finish. If there is a concern though it's that this very firmly structured effort feels as though it may turn secondary relatively early in its evolution. As such I underscore my concern with a question mark because it will certainly require more than 8 years of bottle age to resolve the tannins yet the fruit may no longer be there. This is a classic Petits Vougeots of grace and refinement. (Drink starting 2020). |

BH 91-94 (4/2014): A slightly riper and more obviously animale infused nose features notes of red berries, wood, earth and plenty of humus character. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the less obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess good focus and power on the impressively persistent and beautifully complex finale. This possesses a lovely sense of harmony and punch as well as very ripe supporting tannins. (Drink starting 2024). VM 91-94 (1/2014): Good bright, deep red. Red cherry, stony minerals, rose petal and a suggestion of chocolate mint on the nose; reminded me of a slightly earthier version of a Clos Saint-Jacques. Densely packed, saline and intense, with terrific energy and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of red fruits and minerals. A lovely precise, perfumed midweight with a slowly mounting finish offering a strong impression of soil character. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 93+ (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 La Grande Rue Grand Cru from Lamarche has a fabulous bouquet that gently unfurls in the glass: fine mineralite and tension, wonderful precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tensile tannin, crisp and poised, tightly wound and certainly needing several years to really show its mettle, but a great wine that is both understated yet intense. I'll be cautious now, but I would not be surprised to see this gain more favourable reviews in the future. BH 93 (1/2015): There is just enough wood to notice framing the red currant, black cherry and plum aromas that also display pretty floral and spice notes. There is fine concentration, power and punch to the refined and classy middle weight flavors that possess excellent intensity on the balanced, mouth coating, velvety and beautifully persistent finish. This too will need at least a decade plus of bottle age. Drink 2027+. |

BH 94 (1/2015): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 50+ years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 25+ years of age.) A markedly floral nose exhibits a broad array of spice and red and dark berry fruit aromas that include plum, cassis and earth. There is excellent detail and plenty of punch to the mineral-inflected flavors that are shaped by ultra-refined tannins on the balanced and gorgeously persistent finish that is firm and serious but not really especially austere. This is seriously good with a lovely sense of harmony plus the perfect balance suggests that this will mature over a very long time. Drink 2027+. VM 93 (3/2015): (100% vendange entier; the village fruit was destemmed in 2012): Superripe aromas of red fruits, peony, mocha and balsamic spices. Plush, full and seamless, offering a pliant texture and terrific depth to the flavors of red fruits, dried spices, coffee and flowers. A tad warm on the back end but the dusty tannins melt into the wine's fruit. Less minerally than usual for this grand cru but there's no denying its richness and depth. This will need time to burn off some of its baby fat. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90 (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru has a classically lined, slightly herbaceous bouquet, perhaps even ferrous though well defined with dusky black fruit emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, open-knit, a little herbaceous again but balanced, though I would prefer more flesh to come through on the bony finish. For me, it is not in the same class as Clos de Tart, but it is always intriguing to see how this wine develops and surprises in bottle. |

| BH 94 (1/2015): (from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) Interestingly this is the spiciest wine in the range outside of the La Romanee that combines with a really lovely panoply of red and blue fruit and floral scents. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the fleshy and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess controlled power on the beautifully complex, balanced and long finish that is a bit less austere than that of the Reignots. This is also excellent and should drink well both young and fully mature. Drink 2027+. |

There is a hint of tea-like nuances to the floral, spice, earth and sauvage notes on the broad-ranging dark berry fruit scents. The punchy and intense big-bodied flavors possess a subtle touch of minerality as well as fine concentration, all wrapped in a linear and wonderfully long finish. BH 92 (1/2015): An exuberantly spicy nose is composed primarily of ripe black pinot fruit and violet aromas. There is a refined mouth feel to the middle weight flavors that are supported by ripe and fine tannins before culminating in a linear and tight but balanced finish that delivers excellent depth and length. This is better than it usually is as there is more underlying material. Note that this lovely effort should be approachable young. (Drink starting 2020). WA 90 (1/2018): The 2012 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes reveals a youthful bouquet of rose petal, raspberry and ripe cherry, framed by nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, the wine is supple, medium-full and creamily textural, with impressive mid-palate depth and structural seriousness for this often rather facile climat. My only reservation is that this is certainly overtly ripe, and some liqueured notes emerge as it sits in the glass; if it's just in an awkward phase, my score will look conservative in a few years. |

The palate is medium-bodied with rounded ripe tannin, plenty of bold dark cherry and raspberry fruit that exerts a gentle grip. The acidity is well judged here and there is a finesse on the finish above Village Cru quality. This is simply excellent. |

VM 92 (11/2014): Healthy dark red. Wild, expressive nose combines raspberry, redcurrant, coffee, game and leather. Ripe, broad and sweet, but also with very good energy and thrust to the flavors of raspberry, milk chocolate and minerals. Really saturates the palate without leaving any impression of undue weight. The serious, ripe tannins should support slow development in bottle. "We're lucky always to have healthy levels of acidity in our Gevrey wines," noted Arnaud Mortet. A splendid village bottling. (Drink between 2019-2026). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (1/2015): The expressive nose is compositionally similar to the straight Gevrey villages cuvée though here the aromas are slightly more complex. The medium weight flavors are also denser and more powerful with ample minerality and solid power that continues onto the palate coating, balanced and gorgeously long finish. This too is a very fine Gevrey villages and absolutely worth your attention. (Drink starting 2020). |

| BH 92 (4/2014): (two-thirds of the vines are between 70 and 80 years of age and the remaining vines are approximately 20+ years old.) This is the first wine to display any significant amount of wood though it is not enough to detract from the aromas of plum, earth and spice. There is a velvety texture to the notably rich and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that also display ample minerality on the saline, dusty, intense and palate coating finish. While this isn't necessarily a good candidate for early consumption it should be approachable after 5 years or so of bottle age. Drink 2020+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

VM 93+ (3/2015): Bright red. Slightly high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry and smoky, soil-inflected minerals. Densely packed and extremely young, boasting impressive thickness to its black fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Real grand cru size here, as well as energy. Saturates the palate on the very long, ripely tannic back end. This one calls for patience. BH 92 (4/2014): A more deeply pitched and overtly sauvage nose displays notes of iron-infused earth along with ripe and fresh dark currant and cassis aromas. There is excellent size, weight, power and concentration to the big-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the intensely mineral-infused finish where a touch of wood surfaces. This is a substantial wine even by the outsized standards of a fine Clos du Roi. Drink 2024+. WA 90 (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Clos du Roi from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is showing a fair amount of new oak on the nose that needs another couple of years to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with a strong saline entry, rounded in the mouth with plenty of extraction, though it requires more detail, more tension on the finish. It just seems rather heavy-handed at the moment although I suspect it will repay cellaring as that carapace of oak melts away. |

WA 94-96 (12/2013): The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet with fragrant wild strawberry, bergamot and forest floor that simmers with tension, subtle touches of cassis unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannins, over a layer of effervescent candied fruit – mandarin and apricot enriching the finish. This is such a pretty thing, surely destined to be irresistible in its youth. VM 92-94 (1/2014): Intensity and volume are the first things that come to mind in the 2012 Charmes-Chambertin. Layers if blue/blackish fruit blossom in a wine that is beautifully textured and vibrant throughout. I very much like the intensity here. I tasted two different barrels of Charmes, both in different states of their evolution, which is why generally speaking I feel the wines aren't fully formed just yet. BH 90-93 (1/2014): (from a 1.4 ha parcel of roughly 20 year old vines that is situated one-third in Charmes proper and the remainder in Mazoyères) A beautifully elegant essence of red berry fruit nose enjoys added breadth in the form of spice, earth and gentle floral nuances. I very much like the sense of freshness and vivacity to the medium weight plus flavors that possess fine detail and a hint of minerality that continues onto the silky and saline-inflected finish. This wine has made a great deal of progress over the past 5 vintages or so and 2012 continues that trend. Drink 2022+. |

VM 88-90 (1/2014): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin is soft, silky and delicate on the palate. Sweet red berries, mint and floral notes meld together nicely in the glass. Today the 2012 is solid, if not quite the overachiever it can be. BH 87-90 (1/2014): (from 7 different vineyards located primarily in the dejection cone east of the village.)An elegant and pure nose features aromas of various wild red berries and plenty of earth and sauvage character. A restrained and cool mouth feel characterizes the lightly mineral and saline-inflected middle weight flavors that possess both good balance and delineation on the lingering finish. This will be approachable young if desired. Drink 2019+. WA 87-89 (12/2013): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a blend of seven parcels and from this year, two less than previous years since they have now been rented to other producers, reducing the village cru from 2.4ha to 1.8ha. It has a fresh bouquet with lifted raspberry and fresh strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red cherry, quite candied fruit and a long licorice-tinged finish. Fine. |

WA 93-95 (12/2013): The 2012 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with lively red berry fruit mixed with bergamot and fresh strawberry. It does not quite have the presence of say Bernard Dugat’s example: more introverted and bashful. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit on the opening, luscious red berries laced with orange zest and a hint of vanilla. The finish is nigh irresistible – full of vigor and tension with peach on the aftertaste. After a slow opening this finishes with grandeur and ambition. VM 92-94 (1/2014): Delicate and lithe on the palate, the 2012 Mazy-Chambertin is intensely perfumed and sensual. This is typical Mazy. High-toned aromatics and bright red fruits abound in a pretty, sophisticated Burgundy. Vibrant saline notes linger on the finish. BH 91-93 (1/2014): (from Mazis-Bas) There is enough reduction present to hide the underlying fruit though it does appear to be quite ripe. There is excellent punch and power to the big-bodied, intense and muscular flavors that brim with palate coating and tannin buffering dry extract on the pungently mineral-driven and beautifully long finish. This is very Mazis in character yet it's not especially rustic. Drink 2024+. |

| BH 89-91 (1/2014): A brooding and somber nose offers up notes of plum, various dark berries and subtle spice nuances. The lilting and lacy middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality on the delicious finish that is shaped by very fine-grained tannins and fine persistence. This is very Chambolle in character. BH 95 (1/2015): (from a 2.67 ha parcel situated entirely in terres rouges soil in the south-west portion of the vineyard.) Deep ruby. This is also quite floral with excellent ripeness but also fine freshness to the plum, black cherry, cassis and blueberry aromas. The supple but tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors possess a suave mouth feel thanks to the abundant dry extract that both coats the palate and buffers the very firm tannic spine on the highly persistent and imposingly powerful finish. Here too plenty of patience will be required. Drink 2027+. VM 94+ (3/2015): Dark, bright red. Red raspberry, licorice and menthol on the nose, complicated by notes of bitter chocolate and spices. Large-scaled and broad but less forthcoming today than the Chambolle 1er Cru, with dark raspberry, cherry and spice flavors showing a medicinal reserve and a touch of wildness. Shades toward blacker fruits on the dense, sappy back end, which features substantial ripe tannins and strong saline minerality. This very backward, powerful wine will need a long time to fully express itself. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 97+ (4/2013): (bottled in March of 2012; this and the Bonnes-Mares were aged in 35% new oak): Deep, bright red-ruby. Brilliantly pure aromas of black raspberry, cherry and crushed limestone. Sharply chiseled, sappy and weightless in the mouth, with uncanny limestone cut to the flavors of raspberry, flowers and wild herbs. Spreads out insidiously to saturate and perfume the palate. Judging from this wine's tactile, bracing finish, endless perfume and firm tannic spine, it should gain in nuance for two or three decades in a cool cellar. WA 96-98 (12/2013): The 2012 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially mild-mannered on the nose, unassuming at first but unfolding with each swirl of the glass to reveal scent of dark cherries, Dorset plum, blueberry and licorice. But it is very contained like the Bonnes-Mares, the bouquet strongly advising to return in a decade’s time. The palate is very well balanced with filigree tannins, brambly red berry fruit and a marine-influence from start to finish – hints of brine and seaweed; shucked oyster shell on the finish. This is a very accomplished, fascinating Musigny from de Vogue. BH 94-97 (1/2014): A gorgeously spicy nose is comprised of liqueur-like dark berry fruit scents that also display plenty of floral influence that includes notes of lavender, violet and, somewhat curiously, honeysuckle. There is Outstanding concentration and punch to the seductively textured and marvelously intense big-bodied flavors that are borderline robust as the supporting tannins are dense but refined. I really like the Zen-like sense of harmony to the explosively long finish that really stains the palate. In a word, terrific. Drink 2027+. Don't miss! |
