JS 96 (9/2014): A big, rich wine but there's lots of brightness and beauty at the same time. Shows licorice and asphalt. Full body with chewy tannins and a long finish. Terracotta, Tuscan dust and spice; balsamic too. This needs three to five years to soften. Intense finish. VM 96 (9/2014): Blackberry jam, cassis, grilled herbs and melted road tar meld together in the 2011 Solaia. Another super-exotic, racy 2011 from Antinori, Solaia is supremely beautiful. Mocha, espresso and sage are some of the many notes that add complexity. Hints of white truffle, lavender, smoke and licorice are laced into the exotic, racy finish. In 2011, Solaia has a dollop more of Cabernet Franc in the blend, added to give the wine a touch of freshness. Ripe and flashy to the core, the 2011 needs time to lose some of its youthful exuberance. At times, the 2011 could be easily mistaken for a wine from Napa Valley, such is its intensity. |

VM 95 (3/2015): As it usually is, the 2011 Barolo San Rocco is the darkest and richest of the Azelia Barolos, but it too is quite polished in this vintage. Dark red cherries, licorice, spices and new leather flesh out in a Barolo that shows the depth of Serralunga, but with gorgeous mid-palate pliancy, silky tannins and soft contours for a young Barolo. Here, too, the wine's balance is incredibly alluring, especially since the San Rocco has a history of drinking well throughout its entire life. Antonio Galloni. WS 93 (8/2015): Licorice and sweet spice notes grace the cherry and tar flavors in this intense and compact red. All the components are well-proportioned, but this needs time to come together. Offers a classic Serralunga profile. Best from 2019 through 2035. JS 93 (9/2015): A young Barolo with floral, cherry and citrus aromas that follow through to a full body, firm tannins and a tangy, lively finish. This is an energetic young Barolo that needs time to soften in the bottle. Drink in 2016. WA 92 (1/2017): The 2011 Barolo San Rocco shows focused intensity with a pretty array of varietal characteristics. Boasting the best of Nebbiolo, the wine shows dark fruit nuances with smoke, tobacco, tar and black olive. This expression also offers lasting structure with evident tannic firmness and long persistence. |

|
| |
| VM 95 (12/2015): The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is another of the highlights in this range from the Produttori. Imagine the precision of Ovello, but with slightly darker fruit and more density and power through the middle. That's the Montefico. A regal, towering Barbaresco, the Montefico should provide thrilling drinking for the next several decades. A rush of dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and tobacco add nuance on the powerful, structured finish. Antonio Galloni. |

| |
VM 94 (12/2015): The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is one of the least expressive of these wines. Inward, powerful and explosive, the 2011 is not in a mood to show much today, that is pretty clear. Still, there is an obvious energy here that is impossible to miss. A firm spine of tannin gives the wine much of its signature power. Dark red cherry, smoke, pomegranate and scorched earth blossom on the dramatic finish. A wine of real density and gravitas, the 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano stands out for its pure, unbridled energy and overall intensity. Antonio Galloni. WS 93 (9/2016): Lean, intense and racy, this exudes cherry, leather, spice and underbrush aromas and flavors. Dense, beefy tannins shore up the finish, which remains minerally, long and complex. Shows potential but needs time. Best from 2019 through 2035. 1,382 cases made. |

| |
| VM 90 (12/2015): Soft, caressing and voluptuous, the 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is the sweetest and most open of these 2011 Riservas. Hard candy, wild flowers, mint and sweet spices meld together in a sensual, inviting Barbaresco that will drink nicely pretty much upon release. The 2011 strikes an attractive middle ground of raciness, texture and structure. As such, it will be one of the best early drinkers in this range. This is a gorgeous Muncagota. Antonio Galloni. |

| |
| VM 95+ (12/2015): The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is quite backward today, with intense, salivating tannins that cut through the fruit. The trademark Rabajà balsamic flavor profile is there, with notable darkness and plenty of structure that add complexity to a core of crystalline fruit. Energetic and powerful, with searing tannin and exceptional balance, the Rabajà is going to require considerable patience. The only question is how much. Antonio Galloni. |

|
| |
| VM 94+ (12/2015): Canonica's 2011 Barolo Paiagallo is a real knockout. A wine that embodies the ripe exoticism that makes this vintage so compelling, the Paiagallo simply has it all. Sweet, perfumed aromatics open into a core of sumptuous fruit. Black cherry, plum, sage menthol and licorice notes abound. The Paiagallo captures the very best of the year with its intriguing power, inner sweetness and superb balance. Readers who can find the 2011 should not hesitate, as it is terrific. Antonio Galloni. |

| |
| VM NR (5/2017): The 2011 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris-Nebioli is dark, sensual and open-knit. Hints of spice, leather, menthol and dried cherry open up nicely in the glass. A slightly roasted quality is evident. Even so, the 2011 is sensual and deeply layered throughout. My preference would be to drink it on the earlier side, within the context of Cappellano, which is to say between the ages of 15 and 30. (Drink between 2019-2036). Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (3/2016): Cerbaiona's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the protagonists of the vintage. There is no denying the sheer beauty and focus of this wine. It makes a fabulous first impact with super sharp tones of wild berry, cola, balsam herb, flint and crushed oyster shell. Those drying mineral notes leave a lasting impression. In the mouth, this wine is super elegant, tight and delicately nuanced. Unfortunately, I have not had the best track record with aged Brunello from Cerbaiona (ten years or more) personally, but I am hopeful that a wine of this caliber and depth will restore my faith. No matter what the aging trajectory ultimately demonstrates, this wine certainly does taste fantastic at this young stage. VM 91 (2/2016): The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a surprisingly delicate wine by Cerbaiona standards. Lifted and aromatically expressive, the 2011 will drink well early. Crushed flowers, sweet red berries, cherry and mint are some of the signatures. The 2011 offers lovely freshness for the year, but less depth and quite a bit less of the visceral thrill of the best years. (Drink between 2016-2026). Antonio Galloni. |

JS 96 (11/2016): Lots of blackberry and blueberry aromas follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a powerful, rich finish. So much going on here. Goes on for minutes. Drink or hold. WA 94 (6/2016): Approachable and open even at this young stage, the 2011 Barolo Pajana offers ripe fruit, blackberry preserves, spice, tobacco, leather, cola and grilled rosemary. These layers come together with beautiful fruit integration and focus with supple richness at the back. The Barolo Pajana offers soft, silky tannins with a solid texture. It feels firm and powerful on the palate. WS 93 (2/2017): A tight, linear style, displaying cherry, raspberry, floral, spice and tar flavors. Tobacco, iron and tea elements chime in as this unfolds on the lingering aftertaste. Packs a lot of grip now, so give this time. Best from 2020 through 2032. 333 cases made. |

JS 96 (4/2015): A chewy and rich Barolo with dried mushroom, berry and hazelnut character. Full body, round and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Layered and complex. Better in 2018 but so delicious. WA 93+ (6/2015): The 2011 Barolo Bussia Cicala shows a slightly warmer side to the Bussia cru, although in general I am very impressed with how this single vineyard has performed. You get subtle wood influences here, but the quality of fruit is on prime display. Black cherry, cassis and wild berry lift graciously from the bouquet. Heavier aromas of spice, resin and black licorice add a sense of gravitas and grounded vigor. Bussia Cicala is aged in Slovenian botte for 28 months and already shows excellent potential for a sure and steady evolution. WS 93 (12/2015): A spicy version, this red mingles woodsy cedar and sandalwood flavors with steeped cherry and leather notes. Shows plenty of grip on the back end, yet offers character, sweet fruit and a lengthy aftertaste. Best from 2019 through 2033. 125 cases imported. VM 91 (3/2015): Conterno's 2011 Barolo Cicala is decidedly ripe and flashy in this vintage, with exotic overtones and unusually jammy fruit. Dry, austere tannins clamp down through the mid-palate and finish, a sign of the hail that was an issue here in 2011. Hints of kirsch, sweet red cherry and plum struggle to open up in the glass, but the tannins are a bit too much today. It will be interesting to see how the Cicala develops, but today, the class and pedigree of this site does not come through fully. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 94 (4/2015): Wonderful richness and balance here with plum, dried strawberry and light Spanish cedar character. Full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. Try in 2018. WA 93 (6/2015): The 2011 Barolo Bussia Colonnello shows a compelling level of brawn and heft. This is an elaborate vinous patchwork with dark fruit nuances backed by ethereal tones of balsam herb and licorice. The wine is sturdy, compact and extremely well-constructed. It takes a few minutes to open, but once it does Barolo Bussia Colonnello bursts forth with blackberry, plum, spice and rum cake. Menthol tones and balsam herbs add an important sense of vertical lift and buoyancy. They add beautiful contrasts to the ripe and brawny aromatic elements also on display. VM 93 (3/2015): The 2011 Barolo Colonnello presents an intriguing array of power and intensity in its fruit, along with beams of underlying tannin that give the wine much of its energy and pure drive. The flavors are bold and explosive throughout as the Colonnello shows off its distinctive personality. Dark red plum, spice, violet, sage, leather and tobacco are some of the many notes that are laced into the super-expressive finish. I very much like the push and pull tension of the ripeness of the year and minerality of this site. Antonio Galloni. WS 92 (12/2015): Eucalyptus and menthol notes shade the cherry and leather flavors in this taut, beefy red. A dense matrix of tannins carries the lingering finish. Be patient. Best from 2019 through 2035. 125 cases imported. |

JS 95 (9/2014): This is so layered and complex with dark chocolate, mineral, wet stone and black cherry character. So much fruit and polished tannins in this wine yet tight and composed. It needs another three to four years to completely open and show what great quality it truly has. VM 94 (9/2014): Black stone fruits, smoke, tobacco, incense and sweet spices jump from the glass in the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo. The 2011 is going to need a few years for the baby fat to melt away. Today the flavors are ripe, dark and resonant, while the tannins are quite silky, but the best is yet to come. Even with all of its richness, the 2011 clocks in with acidity above 6%, which is virtually unheard of for a wine with this much dry extract, but, then again, we are talking about Sangiovese. WA 94 (10/2014): The plush and ripe 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo shows a Type-A personality with bold nuances of black cherry, sweet espresso and baking spice. It is comprised of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and ages for two years in French barrel (half the wine) as well as two months in large oak cask. The opulence and richness definitely stand out (the label registers 15% alcohol). Sweet tannins and rich extraction make up the finish. WS 93 (10/2014): A thick, powerful and modern style, with cherry and plum flavors and dense tannins. Licorice, leather and spice flavors add complexity while the tannins lend grip on the long, juicy finish. Best from 2016 through 2024. 1,500 cases made. |

WA 95 (10/2014): The 2011 Flaccianello della Pieve is 100% Sangiovese aged 24 months in new French oak and two months in large oak cask. I’m not sure how Fontodi does it, but this edition of Flaccianello is simply beautiful. It is a seamless expression with lingering tones of red cherry, coffee, spice, truffle and red rose that flow harmoniously into unison. In the mouth, the wine shows great opulence and textural richness that is pushed forward by the stylistic softness of the tannins and the wine’s inner freshness. Pretty menthol tones appear on the finish. Drink: 2015-2030. WS 95 (10/2014): (WS #14 wine of 2014) Aromas and flavors of violet, black currant, raspberry and spice gain intensity as this red builds to its lengthy conclusion. Vibrant and harmonious, this needs some time to shed its well-proportioned tannins. Sangiovese. Best from 2017 through 2030. 4,000 cases made. JS 95 (9/2014): The blackberry, currant, nutmeg and chocolate aromas follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and lots of savory fruit. Some balsamic and citrus fruit underneath it all. Needs a little time to soften. Pure sangiovese. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2016. VM 94 (9/2014): Violets, crushed flowers, licorice, cloves and menthol wrap around the palate in the 2011 Flaccianello. A soft, seamless wine, the 2011 retains gorgeous freshness within the context of the year. Today, the Flaccianello is more expressive than the Sorbo, but it was also bottled two months earlier. This is another wine with off the charts levels of both polyphenols and acidity. |

JS 95 (8/2014): Extremely perfumed with roses, dark berries, ash, asphalt, and sliced plums. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a juicy, savory finish. Orange and lemon peel undertones. Gorgeous finish. Hard not to drink now. A beautiful wine. Drink or hold. But why wait? VM 94 (10/2014): Crushed flowers, tobacco, sweet spices and red berries lift from the glass in the 2011 Barbaresco. Soft silky and accessible, the Barbaresco is already wonderfully open and expressive, as so many wines are in this vintage. Kirsch, hard candy and floral notes add nuance over time. The style is mid-weight and gracious, with gorgeous aromatic complexity and plenty of brightness, especially within the context of the year. WA 93 (7/2014): The 2011 Barbaresco opens to a dark garnet color and shows immediate opulence and intensity where its aromas are concerned. There’s an undeniable level of finesse and focus here that goes against all the things you might assume about a warmer vintage like 2011. The mouthfeel is perfectly tempered and smooth with an incredible sense of liveliness and dimension. Fruit is sourced from Gaja’s many vineyard holdings. Drink: 2017-2035. WS 91 (2/2015): This red shows purity to the cherry, strawberry, licorice and floral flavors. Focused and taut, with a lingering aftertaste of licorice, spice and tobacco notes. The refined texture makes this distinctive. Best from 2017 through 2028. 3,500 cases made. |

JS 97 (2/2014): Complex aromas of blackberry, stones, cracked black pepper and tar. Full body with soft, round tannins and a juicy, fruity finish. Soulful and refined from this estate. This is a magical wine from Southern Italy. WS 92 (4/2014): There's drive to this well-meshed, sanguine red, offering flavors of herbs, dried currant, iron and black olive that are deftly layered with sinewy tannins and balancing acidity. Drink now through 2021. 5,000 cases made. VM 91 (4/2014): (a blend of aglianico and piedirosso): Good full ruby. Ripe red cherry, dark plum, licorice, coffee and spicy oak on the nose. Sweet, plush and very ripe, with plum, truffle and milk chocolate flavors framed by adequate acidity. Complex wine with youthfully chewy, building tannins and excellent breadth. In a riper style than some past vintages. |

| VM 96+ (11/2013): (bottled in July of this year): Good medium red. Crushed cherry, raspberry, rose petal and botanical herbs on the tangy nose and palate. If the Santo Stefano is a more masculine, underbrushy style of nebbiolo, this one is a perfume bomb in the mouth, incredibly silky and fine-grained but with outstanding sappy tang to leaven its thickness. Most impressive today on the slowly mounting, elegant, mouth-saturating back end, which features big but fine-grained tannins and outstanding rising length. A real essence of nebbiolo. | WA 97 (6/2017): Here we have the venerated red label. The Bruno Giacosa 2011 Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigne Le Rocche commands attention and respect. The wine successfully, and somewhat magically, turns the tables on the overdone exuberance of the warm vintage and the natural heft that is inherent to Serralunga d'Alba. It does a great job of reining in all that power and transforming it into streamlined elegance instead. The wine opens to a dark and penetrating color and an immediately expressive bouquet. Thick layers of dark fruit, iron-rich earth, balsam herb, Darjeeling tea, dried ginger and cherry cola rise from the bouquet. The wine's Falletto signature is very strong. This is a Grande Vino with the proverbial capital G and capital V. |

JS 94 (12/2013): A wine with silky tannins and pretty bright fruit of strawberries and sliced plums and hints of flowers. Full body, fine tannins and a wonderful clarity. Lovely length of fruit. This is the last vintage of Santo Stefano for Giacosa after many decades of success. Needs at least four or five years to soften. Try in 2016. VM 93+ (12/2013): Medium with a hint of amber. Highly complex, scented nose combines red plum, cherry, strawberry, clove, medicinal herbs and a hint of orange zest. Intensely flavored, juicy and tightly wound, with lovely cut and definition to the red fruit and spice flavors. Very concentrated, tactile wine whose firm tannic spine will require at least several years of cellaring. Finishes with terrific lift. WA 91 (7/2014): This 2011 Barbaresco Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano is on the market since February and has had ample time to flesh out over the last six months of bottle aging. The wine opens to a light garnet color and immediate fruit tones that veer towards the jammy side with sun-dried strawberry and raspberry. It shows a good level of freshness and acidity to counter the warmer tendencies of the bouquet. The tannins deliver a smooth, silky quality and the wine starts to show pretty aromas of wet earth and black truffle after a few minutes in the glass. Drink: 2015-2030. |

JS 95 (4/2015): A very exciting and subtle red with tar, licorice and dark berry character. Full-bodied, yet subtle and balanced. Lovely density and freshness. Better than 2010. Drink or hold for many years. VM 94 (3/2015): The 2011 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Casa Matè has retained greater freshness than the Gavarini. At the same time, the flavors are dark, bold and intense throughout, with gorgeous balsamic-inflected overtones that add nuance. In 2011, with sugars mounting, Gianluca Grasso chose to pick the Ginestra before the Gavarini, which is not the norm here. As a result, the tannins are a bit dry and austere by today's standards, although in prior decades plenty of Barolos were made with tannins that weren't fully ripe. However, the flavors retain gorgeous brightness, tension and energy throughout, all of which makes me think the 2011 will come together over time. |

| VM 96+ (9/2015): The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata is superb. Black cherry jam, crème de cassis, smoke, plums, menthol, licorice and violets form a stunning backdrop as the 2011 opens up in the glass. Sumptuous and layered yet also quite fresh (especially for the year), the 2011 possesses superb balance and exceptional finesse. The intensity of the fruit nearly buries the tannins, but they are there. My impression is that the 2011 will offer a long and wide window of pure drinking pleasure. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 94 (9/2015): A red with dried berry, flowers, stone and dried spices on the nose. Full-bodied, tight and structured. Layers of ripe fruit and tannins. Long and flavorful finish. His vineyard did wonderfully in this hot year. Better in 2017. VM 93 (3/2015): Oberto's 2011 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata captures all the signatures of this site from its floral, perfumed aromatics to red-fleshed fruit and silky, polished tannins, all delivered with the feminine sensuality that is the truest essence of what Rocche is all about. Freshly cut roses, mint and vivid red berries grace the super-expressive finish. In my view, Rocche is Oberto's flagship. The 2011 has come together quite nicely since I last tasted in barrel. VM 93+ (2/2016): The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is rich, sensual and inviting. Wonderfully open-knit and polished, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most intriguing wines of the year. High-toned aromatics, with a touch of volatile acidity, give the wine much of its unique personality. Macerated cherries, licorice, hard candy new leather and mint are all pushed forward. Readers should expect a somewhat eccentric Brunello. I have seen Brunellos with elevated volatile acidity develop into spectacular wines with years in bottle, but readers should know what they are getting into. Antonio Galloni. WA 93 (3/2016): The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino offers an immediate sense of generosity and openness that makes it attractive on first impact. In this regard, 2011 is very different from the slow-to-reveal-itself 2010 vintage that proceeds it. Bold tones of dark cherry, plum, spice and resin rise to the top with enthusiasm and intensity. The wine holds back nothing. It shows a velvety texture that is rich and enduring. All the while, this Brunello remains faithful to its time honored traditions and its territorial roots. JS 93 (2/2016): Savory and delicious with balance and finesse for a 2011 Brunello. Very fine indeed. Medium to full body, fresh and clean finish. Love the plum, berry and hazelnut character. A delicious successor to an superb 2010. This is the first vintage of the new owners of this fine estate. Drink or hold. |

WA 96+ (2/2017): This wine floored me. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a stunning beauty and a wine well worth the attention (if you can afford its lofty pricing aspirations). Thankfully, the beauty of the contents will help alleviate some of the sticker shock. This is a supple and silky expression with an infinite array of Sangiovese-based aromas. You'll recognize wild cassis, forest floor, autumnal leaf, button mushroom, grilled herb, rosemary, balsam herb and red rose petal. The effect is fragrant and delicate. The mouthfeel is equally ethereal and nuanced. With only 3,500 bottles made, not many of us will have the luxury of trying this beautiful wine. And, that is really too bad. JS 94 (10/2017): Fresh and vivid aromas of cherry and flower with cream undertones. Full body, firm and very silky with a beautiful intensity and precision. Excellent winemaking here. Drink or hold. VM 94-97 (2/2016): A total pleasure bomb, Poggio di Sotto's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva races across the palate with layers of intense, perfumed fruit and striking aromatics. Macerated dark cherry, spice, menthol and deeply spiced layers built to the huge, intense finish. The typical Poggio di Sotto volatile acidity is pretty much buried by the sheer density of the fruit. Best of all, the Riserva remains incredibly fresh and saline, which is so remarkable for the year. Antonio Galloni. WS 93 (6/2017): Medium-weight and juicy, this red offers floral, wild cherry, almond, iron and tobacco flavors. Firm, bright and lingering on the spicy finish. Decant now. Drink now through 2032. 300 cases made. |

VM 97 (9/2015): The 2011 d'Alceo is fascinating to taste next to the Sammarco, as it is much more open-knit, silky and expressive. Cherry jam, pomegranate, spice and new leather flesh out in the glass. The integration of fruit, tannin and acidity is further along than in the Sammarco. The 2011 d'Alceo should open up pretty early, which should be welcome news to readers cellaring some of the more tannic vintages. I expect the 2011 will provide readers with a long drinking window of pure pleasure. Antonio Galloni. JS 97 (8/2015): This is very firm and dense with fantastic structure and a superb depth of fruit and silky tannins. Full body showing a core of ripe fruit featuring currants and blackberries. Minerals and fresh mushrooms to add. Better in 2018. WA 95 (10/2015): The 2011 D'Alceo is a stunning blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Petit Verdot. The bouquet is perfumed and enticing with dark rose, cherry fruit, spice, leather, cola, grilled herb and so much more. Fruit comes from a six-hectare single vineyard (whereas fruit for the Sanmarco represents a special selection from various vineyards.) The intensity and purity is what sets this wine part. Both are impeccable. In the mouth, D'Alceo feels long, linear and meaningful. Castello dei Rampolla practices biodynamic farming. |

WS 95 (12/2015): Classic notes of rose, cherry, licorice and tar are the hallmarks of this firm yet succulent red. Fine harmony and excellent length, along with a solid structure, should allow this red to develop nicely over the next 10 to 12 years. Best from 2018 through 2033. 500 cases made. WA 93 (6/2015): The 2011 Barolo Brunate shows dazzle and pizzazz with a good sense of density and structure at the back. Its tight, svelte texture wraps smoothly over the palate. Bright aromas of cherry, dark fruit, balsam herb, rosemary oil, cola and crushed mineral appear with clear definition and energy. Because of the warm vintage, this wine went into bottle six months earlier than average to allow for a longer evolution in glass. VM 92 (3/2015): The 2011 Barolo Brunate has finally begun to awaken from its post-bottling slumber. Surprisingly open for a young Rinaldi Barolo, the 2011 is round, spherical and supple. Leather, smoke, menthol and tobacco wrap around a plump, juicy core of dark Brunate fruit. The 2011 is almost shockingly accessible. The breadth and creaminess of Brunate is evident, but at the same time, the Brunate is also clearly marked by the ripeness of the vintage. It will be interesting to see if the pedigree of Brunate comes to the fore with further time in bottle. At this point, the Barolo Tre Tine is fresher and better balanced. |

WS 94 (12/2015): This silky and alluring red boasts flavors of rose, raspberry and strawberry, backed by firm, refined tannins. This is an elegant wine that remains long and focused on the aftertaste, where the fruit echoes and a mineral element emerges. Best from 2018 through 2032. 750 cases made. VM 93 (3/2015): Rinaldi's 2011 Barolo Tre Tine is super-expressive and gorgeous today. Dark red cherry, plum, cloves, new leather, rose petal and mint notes are all wonderfully alive and delineated. The Tre Tine is a blend of fruit from Ravera, Cannubi-San Lorenzo and Le Coste, all in the town of Barolo. In the warm 2011 vintage, the significant presence of fruit from Ravera, a high-altitude site, gives the Tre Tine its sense of freshness and linear energy. The Brunate is a bit richer and creamier, but today, I have a slight preference for the Tre Tine, as it is fresher, more vibrant and better balanced, at least today. Best of all, the 2011 will drink well with minimal cellaring. WA 92 (6/2015): The pretty 2011 Barolo Tre Tine shows elegance, fullness and cheerful generosity of fruit. The wine represents a blend of Nebbiolo harvested from the Cannubi S. Lorenzo, Ravera and Le Coste vineyards. Cherry and blackberry aromas rise to the front with lingering tones of smoke, crushed granite and licorice at the back. Barolo Tre Tine shows silky but firm tannins and balanced acidity. This classic style will last long in your cellar. |

WS 95 (10/2014): Ripe black cherry and blackberry flavors pick up rosemary, mineral and spice accents in this red, which is concentrated and intense, fresh and focused. Racy midpalate, this leans toward black currant and cedar notes on the solid finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2017 through 2030. 3,500 cases made. JS 94 (10/2016): The aromas of this Sassicaia shows a wet earth, ripe blackberry and black currant character. Some nectarines as well. Full body, with round and velvety tannins and a succulent juicy finish. Savory and delicious already. Needs a year or two to come together but already approachable. WA 94+ (4/2017): The 2011 Bolgheri Sassicaia speaks to a broad, yet very distinct audience. I am absolutely charmed by this vintage. Soft cherry and blackberry confit emerge from the bouquet in thick, luscious waves. Leather, spice and tar play supporting roles. The wine offers a generous and expansive style. It also shows impressive balance and coherent inner integrity. This vintage certainly bears the hallmarks of a hot vintage, but it never feels overdone. It delivers volume, intensity and rich texture. This Sassicaia is a wine of enormous craftsmanship. VM 93 (12/2014): Full saturated ruby. Very pure, floral aromas of red cherry, blackberry, cassis, minerals and minty herbs. Juicy, sweetly spicy and multilayered, with strong but well-integrated acidity giving the wine lovely early balance and intensifying its dark fruit flavors. Broadens out impressively on the back half without losing its shape. This silky, very graceful Sassicaia might not be as long-lived as the most famous vintages of the past but is irresistible owing to its impeccable balance. “Lovely” is the word that dominated my tasting note. |

| JS 99 (11/2013): I love the aromas of violets with liquorice and subtle brown sugar. This is a full-bodied merlot with fabulous tannins and a wonderful finish. It shows reserve and balance, with striking complex flavours of orange peel, light berries and chocolate. Pure magic. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Redigaffis ever. Better in 2016. |

| VM 95 (3/2015): The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is fabulous in this vintage. Rich, ample and structured, the 2011 is both opulent and savory in style. Iron, plums, dark red cherries, smoke, licorice and tobacco meld together in a remarkably harmonious young Serralunga Barolo. This is the first year the Vietti Lazzarito includes a second recently acquired parcel, which may be one of the factors that influences quality, but at the same time, the Lazzarito has been the most improved Barolo in the range. All the elements come together in the 2011, a wine that has it all. This is a great showing from the Lazzarito. Best of all, readers won't have to wait forever to enjoy this beautiful, pedigreed Barolo. Antonio Galloni. |
