| VM 94 (1/2016): The 2009 Le Pergole Torte is young, primary and fruit-driven. This is another wine that is hard to taste in this setting, as the flavors are so primary. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate and spices are all pushed forward. Succulent, layered and beautifully expressive, the 2009 is likely to open up sooner than most Pergole Tortes, although another few years will help the tannin soften. In some ways, the 2009 is a less plush and exotic version of the 2007. Next to the other warm vintages (2003, 2007 and 2011), the 2009 is lighter and more mid-weight in structure. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 98+ (7/2024): The 2021 Le Pergole Torte is a real stunner. Rich, deep and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2021 is captivating from the very first taste. In bottle, this is quite a bit more reticent than it was as a barrel sample, which, in my view, is a positive. Even so, readers should be prepared to cellar the 2021 for a number of years at a minimum. (Drink between 2028-2046). Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (7/2024): Beautifully saturated and rich in terms of complexity (but not in extraction), the Montevertine 2021 Le Pergole Torte remains focused and elegantly streamlined with a very bright-red cherry element that defines this classic vintage. There are tart fruit flavors to close, followed by firm but silky tannins. A hint of the skins also comes through on the bouquet and adds a little more weight and substance. This wine (which is worked in cement vats, oak cask and Allier barrique) finishes with polished slate-like mineral nuances. |

| VM 94 (12/2013): Montevertine’s 2009 Montevertine dazzles from the very first taste. Montevertine is sometimes overlooked in favor of the flagship Pergole Torte, but that is a mistake, as I have learned over the years. The 2009 jumps from the glass with sweet rose petals, red berries, mint, licorice and spices. Is it ready to drink? Of course the 2009 is far too young to be fully mature, but it is still a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 94-97 (8/2019): Shockingly dense and dark, the 2017 Montevertine possesses off the charts textural richness and unctuosity. A freak of nature in a vintage with tiny yields, the 2017 saturates the palate with intense, plush fruit, silky tannins and mind-blowing concentration. Raspberry jam, white flowers, lavender and spice are some of the notes that build into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures. The 2017 is shaping up to be an epic Montevertine and a huge overachiever. Interestingly, today the Montevertine shows sweeter tannins and a touch less alcohol than the Pergole Torte. I can't wait to taste it from bottle. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (2/2023): This wine beautifully captures the intensity and elegance of this classic vintage. The 2019 Montevertine is made with a careful selection of fruit (with 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino) from across various parcels located at a cool 400 to 550 meters in elevation. Compared to the Le Pergole Torte, which remains more closed and initially shy, the Montevertine currently soars over the senses with delicate berry and wild fruit aromas with mineral, blue flower and candied orange peel. The mouthfeel is extremely fine, but that smoothness leaves a lasting impression. JD 96 (1/2024): The 2019 Montevertine displays a significantly darker fruited profile with notable depth compared to the 2018 vintage. Layered and youthful, the palate opens to plush, ripe tannins and delivers an elegantly long finish. This is going to have a great deal of aging potential and would be well worth stashing away if possible. Drink 2026-2050. Adurey Frick. VM 96 (7/2022): The 2019 Montevertine is absolutely gorgeous. Plush and silky, with terrific depth, the 2019 impresses with its exceptional balance. In most years, the tannins can be a bit fierce, but in 2019 they are surprisingly soft and caressing in relative terms. Once again, I am quite struck by the sheer richness in the 2019. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice, tobacco and incense build in this decidedly potent Montevertine. This is an especially fine edition and a very serious wine. Impressive. In 2019, Montevertine will give Pergole Torte a run for its money. (Drink between 2027-2044). Antonio Galloni. |
