WA 95 (1/2025): The Brovia 2020 Barolo is a beautifully balanced wine that delivers a twofold punch of intensity and complexity. Village Barolo hardly gets better than this. The wine shows extreme sharpness and focus with small berry fruit, mica rock, blue flower and toasted coriander seed. Fruit represents a blend of Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba, so you get the aromatic focus of the first village with the power and intensity of the second. This is one of the best blended Barolos on the market today.
VM 92 (1/2025): The 2020 Barolo is an absolute joy. Deep, layered and super-expressive, the 2020 is striking in its sheer appeal. Readers will find a generous Barolo that drinks well today. The Brovia Barolo is typically a 10-15-year wine. I imagine that will be the case here as well. Cedar, new leather, kirsch, pine, mint and red-toned fruit build into the caressing finish. The straight Barolo is built on a core of fruit from Brea and Gianetto, plus bits from Rocche di Castiglione, Villero and Garblèt Sue'. It is aged exclusively in 100HL Slavonian oak. The dark, brooding notes of Serralunga are very much present, but the 2010 impresses for its pure balance, harmony and class. Dried rose petals, spices, licorice and game add complexity on a huge finish supported by big, incisive tannins. This is another utterly vivid, dazzling Barolo from Brovia. WA 95 (12/2010): The 2006 Barolo Garblet Sue’ is massively tannic and powerful. As always, it is a taut, sinewy Barolo, but in 2006 the Garblet Sue’ is even more backward than is typically the case. Bright red fruit, smoke, tar, incense and iron are just some of the nuances that come together in this focused, potent Barolo. With air the frame fills out to some extent, but patience is the key. Brovia’s Garblet Sue’ is made from the Bricco Fiasco vineyard, just up the hill from the winery. Anticipated maturity: 2021-2036.
VM 91 (12/2009): Good bright, deep red. Wild, musky red fruits and menthol on the nose, complicated by licorice, minerals and nutty oak. Sweet and silky on entry, then tight but smooth in the middle. There's a light touch here but no hardness, and lovely intensity and finishing perfume. The tannins coat the front teeth. Very youthful wine-a bit tighter than the Rocche but less clenched than the Villero. |

| VM 96 (1/2014): Firm tannins support a core of bright red fruit, freshly cut flowers and crushed rocks in the 2010 Barolo Garblèt Sue’. Today some of the ferrous notes typical of this site are less obvious, as the fruit is incredibly rich and intense. Over time, though, it is the wine's pure energy that stands out most, another typical Garblèt Sue’ characteristic. This is one of the more polished vintages of the Garblèt Sue’ I can remember tasting. Iron, smoke, dark red fruit and a host of ferrous notes round out the huge, explosive finish. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (12/2010): Usually rather open and expressive, in 2006 the Barolo Rocche has the makings of a long-distance runner. From time to time its perfumed red fruit makes an appearance yet this remains a powerful, inward Rocche in need of significant cellaring. There is plenty of muscle in the glass, in fact the wine continues to gain weight with air. Sweet roses and tar have the last word on the magnificent, perfumed finish. The Rocche has become marvelously expressive since I tasted it last year. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036.
VM 95+ (12/2010): A huge, structured wine, the 2006 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia is deep, powerful and structured. This is a decidedly brooding, tannic Barolo that is many years away from peaking. Intense fruit and equally imposing tannins meld together in a powerful, structured Barolo that is going to need time. Interestingly, Alex Sanchez adds that the 2006 was very light in body and color for the first year of its life. You’d never guess that today.
VM 91-94 (11/2009): Good deep red. More floral and more balsamic on the nose than the basic Barolo, offering highly perfumed aromas of rose petal, violet and minerals. Juicy, sweet and firmly built, with lovely definition to the flavors of dark fruits, mentholated herbs and graphite. The tannins are penetrating but sweet and broad, giving an elegant quality to this complex, fine-grained wine, which comes from lighter soil and a southeast exposure. |

WA 96 (10/2012): An open, floral nose announces the 2008 Barolo Rocche. This is a surprisingly steely, intense Rocche with little of the early appeal this wine usually offers. Instead, readers will find a structured, inward Barolo that should develop handsomely for at least two decades. A hint of feminine, Rocche sensuality emerges on the finish, but readers are best served cellaring this beauty for at least a handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.
VM 95 (1/2015): The 2008 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia is quite closed today, which is a bit surprising given how expressive many other wines are in this vintage. Dried rose petals, mint and licorice open up over time, but only with great reluctance. There is a crystalline purity that is highly appealing, but the 2008 is going to need at least a few years to enter the early part of its drinking window. Stylistically, the 2005 resembles the 2005, but with perhaps a little more sweetness. A recent bottle of Brovia's 2008 Ca' Mia was also superb, further suggesting all that is needed here is time. | VM 96+ (1/2015): Brovia's 2010 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a classic in the making. An open, expressive Rocche bouquet, firm yet silky tannins and chiseled fruit are the signatures. Veins of brilliant acidity and insistent tannin give the 2010 much of its energy and overall tension. VM 96 (1/2018): The Barolo Villero is not my favorite Brovia wine, so I don’t tend to reach for it very often. Perhaps that is a mistake. The 2004 is simply magnificent. Dense and powerful in the glass, with all of the alluring aromatics and balsamic notes that are typical of this site, the Villero simply has it all. Antonio Galloni.
WA 94 (10/2009): The 2004 Barolo Villero is heady, sensual stuff. This ethereal, mid-weight Barolo wafts from the glass with white truffles, spices, menthol and sweet perfumed roses in a defining expression of this Castiglione Falletto vineyard. The wine retains tons of grace and elegance as firm, yet well-integrated tannins frame the fruit through to the close. This is a terrific effort from Brovia! I tasted two bottles; the first was open and accessible, the second very much shut down. I would give this wine at least another few years in bottle before giving it a try. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. |

| VM 94 (4/2012): The 2006 Barolo Villero is a gorgeous, mid-weight Barolo. Scents of tobacco, licorice, mint and new leather lead to a core of expressive dark red fruit. There is an exotic quality to the 2006 that is hard to define with words. The 2006 is a super-classic Villero. It doesn't have a ton of structure, instead it is a wine built on energy and length, both of which it has in spades. Antonio Galloni. |

| WA 95 (6/2013): The 2009 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera is a beautifully delicate and elegant wine with fruit sourced from 35-year-old vines at 400 meters above sea level. Those higher elevations have helped to shape finely detailed aromas, despite the warmer vintage. Bright notes of pressed rose, violets, licorice, spice, tar and plum all call out your attention. Solid tightness in the mouth slowly relaxes to reveal nuanced flavors of bright cherry, spice and leather. Each time you return to the glass, the wine offers yet another dimension. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035. |

| VM 96 (1/2014): Brovia's 2010 Barolo Villero wraps around the palate with dark red cherries, plums, spices, menthol, new leather and licorice. Rich, sumptuous and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2010 is firing on all cylinders. Today the Villero is remarkably open, which is unusual for this wine. This early tasting provides a clue of what will develop over the next few years, and that is all hugely positive. Cloves, mocha and black fruit all add gravitas on the finish. Today the Villero seems to bring together the finesse of the Rocche and weight of the Ca' Mia. What a thrill it is to catch the Villero at this expressive stage in its development. | VM 97 (2/2020): The 2016 Barolo Villero is one of the most refined editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Lavender, spice, licorice, mint and blue/purplish fruit are beautifully delineated here. Transparent and nuanced, the Villero is so classy. There is plenty of depth and structure, but what impresses most about the Villero is how unusually sophisticated it is. Time in the glass brings out the wine's explosive personality, but the 2016 remains incredibly elegant, especially for this site. This is a tremendous showing from Brovia. (Drink between 2026-2041).
