BH 96 (6/2015): (from Puligny fruit in 2012 whereas prior vintages have been from Chassagne). An almost mute nose is comprised of highly complex aromas of citrus, pear, petrol, tea, green apple and floral characters. The full-bodied, dense and overtly muscular flavors are deep, dense and impressively scaled while displaying terrific power on the gorgeously long finish. In particular I like the palate staining dry extract, which should permit this to age well for at least a decade and more probably 12 to 15 years. Drink 2025+. Don't miss!
VM 93-95 (10/2014): Pale, bright yellow. Vibrant aromas of orange zest, lime leaf, linden flower and crushed rock. Dense, thick and utterly seamless, but a bit heavier and less refined than the Chevalier-Montrachet. This big boy displays Outstanding depth of fruit and a slightly exotic soft citrus character. Incidentally, this wine is carrying a moderate 13% alcohol. Boillot has long maintained that alcohol is inversely proportional to energy, and that a white Burgundy at 14% is unlikely to have real vigor.
WA 93-95 (12/2014): The 2013 Montrachet Grand Cru has a complex bouquet: subtle grilled walnut notes tincturing the mineral scents. It is reticent at first, but unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with good weight, nicely judged acidity, plenty of mineral notes, although the finish is just a little conservative. Still, there is a pleasant saline note lingering on the aftertaste. Give this several years in bottle - it just needs to develop more "charm." |

VM 93 (9/2015): Bright, pale yellow. Very ripe aromas of pineapple, crushed stone and more exotic fruits closed down quickly with air. Dense and creamy on entry, with a repeating suggestion of exotic fruits, then tighter and more backward on the very long back end. Still, this seems essentially softer and riper than the Charmes, giving an impression of lower acidity. Colin-Morey blocked the malolactic fermentation in one of the three barrels of this juice. WA 93-95 (12/2014): The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières has a fragrant bouquet with yellow plum, honeysuckle and jasmine scents, although I would like to see more mineralité expressed by the time of bottling. The palate is crisp and edgy on the entry. There is very good concentration here, well-judged acidity and it fans out wonderfully on the animated, lingering finish. This has great potential and constitutes one of the best Meursault Perrières that I have encountered this vintage.
BH 91-93 (6/2015): This too is airy, cool and ultra-elegant with a similar nose that is intensely floral in character along with plenty of citrus, wet stone and green apple scents. The detailed, driving and wonderfully delineated middle weight flavors are packed with a forceful dose of minerality on the almost painfully intense, saline and beautifully lingering finish. This is a classic Perrières that will need a few years to flesh out and add depth. (Drink starting 2021). |

BH 91 (6/2015): (from Corton-Pougets) This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of wood and even here it's quite subtle as it easily allows the notably exotic aromas of dried yellow fruit, lychee nut and dried tangerine peel-infused aromas to shine. This is a markedly powerful effort, even by the elevated standards of Corton-Charlemagne, with its dense and muscular big-bodied flavors that terminate in a beautifully complex if mildly edgy and dry finale. As the description suggests the balance isn't perfect but there is so much underlying material that my score offers the benefit of the doubt that this will better harmonize with a few years of bottle age. Drink 2020+.
WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, which comes from a small parcel in Pougets just below the large trees and sees no new wood, has a delineated bouquet with clear honey and lemon curd scents, the mineral/stony notes lying in wait just behind. The palate is crisp and poised on the entry. The acidity is wonderfully judged and lends real tension to this Corton Charlemagne, while there is a convincing level of energy on the finish. This may actually just pip the 2012 past the post. |

VM 92 (8/2015): Pale, bright yellow. Tangy aromas of orange, lemon, crushed stone and smoke. Fine-grained and deep, displaying lovely depth to its citrus and floral flavors. Showing a bit more oak than most of the other 2013s, as the Raveneaus used what Bernard described as "younger old barrels" to age this wine. In an essentially fruity, supple style, finishing with good energy and fresh herbal lift. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 92 (10/2015): (from several parcels totaling 2.5 ha with two-thirds of it in Chapelot and the remainder in Pied d'Aloup.) Along with the Blanchots this is the most floral wine in the range with its elegant nose of pear, apple, spice and soft apricot nuances that exhibit just enough Chablis typicity to be persuasive. There is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the delicious and very rounded medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and excellent length on the mouth coating and powerful finish. While not quite at its usual level this is certainly a fine effort in the context of the vintage. Drink 2020+. Outstanding!
WA 90+ (11/2016): Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre has a fragrant bouquet with citrus lemon, yellow flowers and orange blossom scents, a fine threat of mineralite underneath. The palate is well balanced with a rounded, peachy entry. There seems to be a bit if new oak here but it is nicely integrated and imparts attractive praline notes towards the finish. This simply needs more time. |

BH 93 (10/2015): This is aromatically less elegant but more complex with its pretty array of spicy white and slightly exotic orchard fruit scents that display ample Chablis character. The intense middle weight plus flavors possess good volume as well as excellent richness on the opulent and mouth coating finish that somehow manages to retain a sense of refinement, indeed this could accurately be described as combining power with finesse. Note that while this will certainly be capable of reward mid-term cellaring it will also drink well early on if desired. Drink 2020+.
VM 93 (8/2015): Pale yellow. Explosive perfume of soft citrus fruits, flowers, ginger and crushed rock. Rich and multidimensional, conveying an impression of energy to its floral and powdered stone flavors. Long on the the aftertaste. The crop level from this 1970 planting was 50 hectoliters per hectare. Should offer considerable early sex appeal. Stephen Tanzer.
WA 94 (8/2015): The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has an extremely well defined bouquet with what feels like more precision than the Blanchots. Here, there is a touch of generosity with almond and even a very slight creme brûlee scent. The palate is very well balanced, more vivacious and charming than the curmudgeonly Blanchots with a sensual, caressing and lightly spiced finish that is just very...Valmur. This is superb. |
