| WA 96 (7/2014): The 2010 Barolo Monvigliero shows a pretty degree of color salutation with brilliant garnet and ruby highlights. The bouquet is broad and wide-sweeping with a healthy succession of red berry, sweet almond, stone fruit, medicinal herb and crushed mineral. Fruit thrives from 220 to 280 meters above sea level with full southern exposures facing La Morra. They own 1.5 hectares of the 20-hectare single vineyard. An important cru, Monvigliero is fifth most identified vineyard designate in Barolo after Cannubi, Bussia, Brunate and Rocche dell’Annunziata. Fratelli Alessandria keeps its Barolo in oak casks for three years, instead of two. The wine shows light spice notes with distant touches of dark fruit. The tannins are silky and long. The wine is amazing expressive now, but promises great aging potential. Drink: 2017-2033. |

VM 98 (12/2013): In this context, it is obvious why the 2010 is the greatest Solaia ever made. The 2010 has it all; expressive aromatics, wonderfully nuanced fruit and tons of supporting structure. The 2010 has been magnificent since I started tasting the component wines in 2011. Not that it is in bottle, it is every bit as stunning as I had hoped. Readers will not want to miss this towering masterpiece from the Antinori family. Ideally, the 2010 should be cellared until at least age ten. This mesmerizing, wonderfully complete Solaia represents the height of finesse Antinori started to achieve with the 2004. In time, the 2010 will be recognized as one of the all-time legendary Solaias. Actually, it already is. I can't think of a better wine with which to wrap up this monumental, truly once-in-a-lifetime tasting. JS 98 (11/2013): A triumph for Solaia: it suggests the greatness of the legendary 1997. This is a wine with very subtle, complex aromas and flavours of currants, licorice and raspberries. Wonderful nose. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. It lasts for minutes on the palate. The precision of the cabrenet sauvignon comes through here. Better in 2016. WA 97 (8/2013): The 2010 Solaia puts on an incredible show that hits all the senses and keeps your unyielding attention for as long as there is wine in the bottle. There are various ways to describe the bouquet. First, is the wine’s sweet side, as this beautiful 75-20-5 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc delivers ripe cherry, black currant, baking spice and dark chocolate. After that, the wine becomes redolent of tobacco, balsam, bay leaf, rum cake and dark licorice. The bouquet is all encompassing and complete. A firmly structured backbone is padded generously by the fleshy richness of its consistency. This is a gorgeous wine that will age for decades. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2040. VM 93+ (9/2014): (75% cabernet sauvignon, 20% sangiovese and 5% cabernet franc): Good dark ruby. Black cherry, blackcurrant, chocolate, fresh herbs and smoky oak on the nose and palate. Highly concentrated, silky and sweet, but also quite taut and energetic in the mouth, displaying perfectly integrated acidity and polished tannins. The subtle, slowly expanding finish features captivating lingering sweetness. Still very youthful: I'd forget about this wine in the cellar for another eight to ten years. WS 93 (4/2014): A dense, powerful red, with a good lashing of oak, this evokes black currant, blackberry and spice flavors. Finds equilibrium with air, gaining suppleness and finishing long and complex. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2016 through 2028. 7,000 cases made. |

| JS 98 (12/2014): An unforgiving and powerfully structured wine with fabulous grilled meat and granite stone character with dried berry and flower petal. Full body, chewy and intense. Great structure and extremely long and intense. Sexy austerity. Gets the juices going. Best ever from here. Reminds me of the great Argianos of the 1970s but now! Better in 2017 or 2018. |

WA 96 (3/2016): I am absolutely impressed by Argiano's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. The wine veers towards the modern and international side of the Brunello style spectrum. Thanks to the high caliber of the vintage, style does not trump quality. The bouquet peels back to reveal black cherry, black currant, spice, cigar box and rosemary twig. Distant notes of chocolate and toasted almond play supporting roles. The wine offers extraordinary texture with firm tannins that are balanced out against the soft plushness of the fruit. This is a terrific Brunello. JS 92 (10/2015): A powerful red with so much new wood at the moment as well as gorgeous fruit. Raisiny, cedar notes. Full-bodied, chewy and very intense; underneath there is intensity and richness. This needs at least four years to come together. Try in 2020 and see. WS 92 (4/2016): Aromas of toasted oak and char, with a hint of coconut, accent black cherry and plum fruit notes in this red, which is polished in a way, with good balance overall and fine length, but for me, a little too much oak. Best from 2018 through 2030. 441 cases made. |

| JS 95 (12/2014): Fabulous aromas of dried rose petal, orange peel, and oyster sheel with hints of dark fruits. Full body, very fine tannins with a mineral, berry and orange peel undertone. Real Tuscan dust undertone. A structured and salty and savory finish. Better in 2017. |

JS 97 (2/2016): A riserva with so much structure and tension. A full body that shows dried fruit and mushroom flavors. Walnut soil, too. So long and powerful. A glorious wine. Wine for the long term. Drink in 2017. WA 95 (3/2016): Only made in the best vintages, this wine represents the pinnacle of Castello Banfi's quality production. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio All'Oro is a stunning achievement and will serve as a benchmark for this estate's future endeavors. The bouquet delivers both power and elegance with dried cherry, grilled herb and delicate layers of spice. This ensemble is seamless and balanced. The wine makes a statement without speaking in a loud voice and that's what I like best about this Brunello. In the mouth, this young wine offers a fresh fruit presentation that promises to evolve slowly. The solid tannic structure and the wine's fresh acidity will also contribute to its longevity. WS 92 (6/2016): Big, ripe black cherry and plum flavors are backed by dusty tannins in this rustic red, which displays power, with the vibrant acidity lending a touch of finesse. Tobacco, leather and iron notes add depth on the finish. Best from 2018 through 2033. 1,650 cases made, 200 cases imported. |

JS 99 (11/2016): This is very tannic and powerful with blueberries, blackberries and milk chocolate. Full body, firm tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Shows length and power. A wine for decades ahead. Greatest Banfi red ever. Better in 2018. WA 96 (3/2016): I'm confident this is the best wine (as a new release) I have tasted from Castello Banfi. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio Alle Mura offers rich intensity with seamless integration between its primary fruit aromas and background oak shadings. It is distinguished by elegant tones of licorice, dark mineral and cola that are associated with the six-year aging process required of Brunello Riserva. The bouquet shows enormous depth and fluid nuances of spice and chocolate that add plumpness, opulence and softness. The wine shows a rich and well extracted mouthfeel that is impressive both in terms of consistency and persistence. A bright flash of acidity bodes well for this wine's future cellar evolution. WS 93 (6/2016): Cherry, leather, tar and milk chocolate flavors mingle in this big, chunky red. Balanced toward the tannic side, with a long aftertaste of spice, earth and chocolate. Should settle down in a few years. Best from 2019 through 2033. 1,000 cases made, 170 cases imported. |

WA 93+ (6/2015): The 2010 Barabresco opens to beautiful aromas of forest floor, white truffle and cola. All the fruit from Produttori del Barbaresco's single-vineyard wines are packed into this one base Barbaresco. The wine is sharp and focused and, although it does not have the soft generosity of 2009 or 2011, this is a wine of enormous elegance. I did not find the mouthfeel to be exceedingly thin. In fact, I noted the persistence, freshness and liveliness of the finish. JS 92 (1/2015): Aromas of dried berry, lemon peel and plum follow through to a medium to full body, fine tannins and a bright finish. Bright and delicious. I like both the 2010 and 2011 at the same level but for different reasons. Better in 2015. VM 91 (11/2013): (as the Produttori has declassified its crus in 2010, there will be 28,000 cases of this blend): Tangy cherry and raspberry aromas are lifted by flowers and mint on the cool, inviting nose. Silky-sweet and floral, with lovely inner-mouth juiciness to its red berry flavors. Owing to the wine's moderate body and flesh, the tannins show a slightly dryness but the long, juicy finish offers enticing floral perfume. A lovely, sharply delineated Barbaresco at a very reasonable price. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 96 (1/2014): Firm tannins support a core of bright red fruit, freshly cut flowers and crushed rocks in the 2010 Barolo Garblèt Sue’. Today some of the ferrous notes typical of this site are less obvious, as the fruit is incredibly rich and intense. Over time, though, it is the wine's pure energy that stands out most, another typical Garblèt Sue’ characteristic. This is one of the more polished vintages of the Garblèt Sue’ I can remember tasting. Iron, smoke, dark red fruit and a host of ferrous notes round out the huge, explosive finish. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 96 (1/2014): Brovia's 2010 Barolo Villero wraps around the palate with dark red cherries, plums, spices, menthol, new leather and licorice. Rich, sumptuous and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2010 is firing on all cylinders. Today the Villero is remarkably open, which is unusual for this wine. This early tasting provides a clue of what will develop over the next few years, and that is all hugely positive. Cloves, mocha and black fruit all add gravitas on the finish. Today the Villero seems to bring together the finesse of the Rocche and weight of the Ca' Mia. What a thrill it is to catch the Villero at this expressive stage in its development. A huge, creamy, totally voluptuous finish is full of appeal and pure sexiness. Antonio Galloni. |

Even though there is plenty of vintage 2010 structure, the Paiagallo offers lovely radiance and purity. The most anticipated wine of the night, the Cerbaiona shows why it belongs in the pantheon of the most epic wines ever made in Montalcino. A Brunello with no beginning and no end, the 2010 Cerbaiona just is. Every aroma, every shade of nuance, every texture is just.perfect. VM 96 (3/2016): The 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Elena emerges from a parcel in Ravera planted with the Rose clone, which yields a distinctly fragrant Barolo that emphasizes aromatic lift and precision. Crushed flowers, mint and sweet red cherries all lift from the glass. Silky and nuanced, the 2010 offers lovely balance in an understated style. Today, the 2010 is quite closed and probably in need of further time in bottle. Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers, hard candy and sweet red berries reappear on the finish, adding further shades of nuance. The 2010 is constantly changing in the glass, but it has begun to shut down in bottle, something that bodes well for the future. As always, the Vigna Elena is the most delicate and fleeting of the Cogno Barolos. Antonio Galloni. WA 95 (6/2016): Only made in the best vintages, the 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Elena is a stunning and magnificent achievement. This is a complete wine that reaches to the far sides of the aromatic spectrum. The bouquet offers crushed mineral, black fruit, balsam herb, cherry cola, anise and a seductive dose of earthy black truffle. It has it all. The mouthfeel is rich and determined, but there is a point of tightness within the tannic structure that will require more years of bottle aging. WS 93 (10/2016): Perfumed with floral and berry notes, this red picks up cherry, leather and tar flavors, featuring well-defined, vibrant acidity. Silky and long in texture, this is balanced and expressive. Best from 2018 through 2033. 340 cases made. |

| VM 96+ (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Romirasco stands out for its pure texture and balance. Today the 2010 is a bit compact, but that is not at all surprising given its underlying structure and very recent bottling. Those two factors considered, the 2010 Romirasco is a wine with tremendous future. The style is a little more sensual and less severe than the Cicala, with generally softer contours, all which should give it a slight upper hand in terms of accessibility. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 93-95 (11/2013): Good medium red. Wild strawberry, smoked meat and a whiff of leather on the nose. Lush on entry, then juicy, tight and youthfully imploded in the middle, with firm minerality supporting the sappy raspberry and crushed cherry flavors. Showing less middle-palate texture today than the Cerretta, almost certainly due to a recent racking and sulfiting. Finishes with ineffable notes of candied cherry and minerals, with tannins well under control. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 100 (6/2017): The 2010 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is a perfect wine and there are few things I am more sure of in this life. This is an extraordinary creation that bursts from the glass with a level of distinct intensity and elegance that is nothing short of breathtaking. The wine literally evokes an emotional and deeply visceral reaction thanks to the lasting impression it makes on your heart, mind and gut. This Barolo opens to a delicate garnet color that is brightened with crystalline luminosity. The bouquet offers an immediate curtain-raiser with chiseled aromas of wild berry, licorice, white truffle and tar. That explosive start is followed by a mounting crescendo of complexity and nuance. The wine is extremely silky and polished in terms of mouthfeel and this helps to underline its impressive persistence. Bravo! JS 99 (10/2016): This is one of the most balanced, harmonious Monfortinos I’ve ever tasted. Aromas of dried rose petals and oranges. It’s full-bodied yet compacted and tight. Tannins are perfectly managed. All in harmony. This is from one of the latest harvests ever; it started October 29. So fabulous and so perfect now, why wait? But will age for decades. VM 98-100 (3/2015): It's always great to get a glimpse of Monfortino as it ages in barrel. The 2010 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Sweet red cherries, rose petals, smoke, licorice and savory herbs open up in the glass, but it is the wine's statuesque, towering personality that stands out most. Layers of nuance continue to build in a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that dazzles. Firm, chalky tannins support the huge finish. Conterno told me the 2010 might get an extra year in barrel to tame the the tannins, so it may be a while before the 2010 sees the light of day. When it does, the 2010 will make an eloquent case for itself among the greatest Monfortinos ever made. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 97 (9/2018): Wow, this is really quite a wine. The 2010 Barolo Riserva Ginestra is guided by three lucky stars: First, it is made by an excellent producer. Second, it comes from an excellent vintage. And third, it comes from an excellent vineyard site. This is a stunning achievement that is teeming with life, intensity, elegance, pedigree and sheer excitement. The bouquet achieves impressive balance with fruit, spice, mineral and tertiary tones that are all played forward with equal intensity. There is a spot of sweetness on the close (with 15% alcohol) that adds to the volume and fullness of the mouthfeel. This wine merits a special place at the back of your cellar where it can age undisturbed for the next decade or two. Only 4,000 bottles exist. VM 93-96 (1/2014): Not surprisingly, the 2010 Barolo Ginestra Riserva is the most overt and explosive Barolo in this range. Violets, lavender, blue/black fruit, smoke and licorice burst from the glass. The 2010 is wonderfully alive, with tons of Ginestra power and personality to burn. Today, the 2010 has the potential to develop into a thrilling Barolo. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (2/2015): Costanti's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is stunning. Dark, powerful and mysterious in the glass, the 2010 captivates all the senses with its breathtaking beauty and layered, multi-dimensional personality. Lavender, violets, savory herbs, smoke, plums and graphite flow through to the rich, explosive finish. There is a prism-like sense of transparency allied to pure power in the 2010 that is impossible miss. Readers who can find the 2010 should not hesitate; it is a must-have. While many 2010s are approachable today, the Costanti's 2010 is not; it is a wine for the cellar. Antonio Galloni. WS 94 (6/2015): Rich, with a smooth texture and lively structure supporting the mulled cherry, licorice, leather and tobacco flavors. This firms up — a good sign in a young red, with a lingering finish of tobacco and spice. Best from 2018 through 2029. 2,500 cases made. |

| WA 96 (2/2015): Aged two years in oak, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Le Lucere is expressive and deep with thick lines and a profound sense of extraction. This is a lovely wine that occupies a special place on the opulent side of the Brunello spectrum. Of course, the amazing quality of fruit in 2010 has given winemakers more variables and raw material to play with. The wine shows dark concentration and an impenetrable appearance. Dried fruit, clove, nutmeg and toasted almond segue to cola, licorice and pressed rose petal. The mouthfeel is sweet and chewy but the overall effect is spectacular. This wine marks a huge improvement over past efforts. |

VM 98 (9/2014): The 2010 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is magnificent, as it has always been. Rich, explosive and structured on the palate, the 2010 possesses stunning depth and nuance, along with the energy to age beautifully for the next 20+ years. The 2010 has begun to shut down in bottle, but from time to time, the magic comes through. In my opinion, the 2010 is the greatest Vigna del Sorbo ever made. Readers should be aware that the 2010 was sold in two tranches; the first bottles were labeled Chianti Classico Riserva, while the second set of bottles were sold under the new Chianti Gran Selezione designation. The wine is the same. Antonio Galloni. WA 95 (8/2013): The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is a timeless expression that embraces all the canons of great winemaking. This vineyard-designate expression (Sangiovese and a small part of Cabernet Sauvignon are planted here) boasts a delicately floral side in 2010 with dried violets and blue flower that gracefully lift the bouquet. Beyond the floral tones are shadings of cassis, wet earth, anisette and tobacco. Like the other wines of Fontodi, Vigna del Sorbo shows an ethereal side and inner elegance that is impossible to repeat elsewhere. It’s sure to develop bottle complexity over the years. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. WS 92 (10/2013): Lush and dark, boasting black cherry, blackberry, tobacco and earth flavors. Though the texture is initially supple, firm, dense tannins take over on the finish. Needs time. Best from 2016 through 2027. 1,800 cases made. |

JS 98 (1/2015): I really appreciate the dark-berry and burnt-orange aromas that follow through to a full body, very integrated tannins and a ripe, juicy fruit character. Savory, succulent and salty. Hints of chocolate and salted nuts. So juicy and gorgeous. A fabulous red. Drink now but also hold for years ahead. VM 94 (2/2015): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is all about balance. Remarkably seamless for a young Brunello, the 2010 is also quite expressive and open at this stage, which is one of the signatures of the vintage. Bright red stone fruits, wild flowers and cinnamon are all given an extra kick of intensity and focus from the high acidity of the year. This is a terrific showing from Fuligni. Drink 2016-2030. WS 92 (6/2015): A bright, spice-laden version, with macerated cherry, strawberry, tobacco and earth flavors. The ample tannins add structure, yet the lasting impression is of sweet fruit and refinement. Best from 2018 through 2032. 2,500 cases made. WA 89 (3/2016): Fuligni's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a deeply floral wine with bright aromas of pressed violets and rose. There's isn't much fruit here and that surprised me greatly, given the immediate and forthcoming nature of the vintage. In fact, the wine feels a bit shut down and less expressive than expected. Balsam herb, licorice and chopped mint round off the finish. My sample may be showing subtle signs of reduction. |

JS 99 (10/2015): 99 Wonderful aromas of dried mushrooms, flowers, plums, nuts and cedar. Complex. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. I love the finish. Such elegance. Racy and very long. Superb. What a wine. I always love this. Drink or hold. VM 95 (2/2016): Fuligni's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is deep, dense and powerful, with plenty of voluptuousness and inner sweetness for the year. Leather, menthol, spice, violet and licorice wrap around a core of intense, dark-fleshed fruit. The 2010 needs a few years to fully come together, but it is impressive, even today. Mocha, black cherry, plum and mentholated nuances are woven into the persistent, juicy finish. The 2010 spent three plus years in cask. Antonio Galloni. WS 94 (6/2016): Saturated with ripe cherry, plum, dusty cocoa, tobacco and tea aromas and flavors. The solid tannins provide support but don't get in the way of the fruit and savory components. Finishes long and expansive. Best from 2019 through 2035. 1,000 cases made. |

WA 94 (6/2013): Smack from the start, the 2010 Barbaresco shows full-on Gajissimo personality with irresistible opulence and intensity, magically contrasted against remarkable smoothness and finesse. Everyone wants to know his secret. The wine delivers seductively rich concentration and integrated oak that is offset by a delicate portfolio of chiseled mineral, dried berry fruit, Spanish cedar, crushed herb, anisette and blue flower. Fruit is sourced from 14 vineyards in Barbaresco. It already leaves a mark, but will reward those who wait. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. VM 93 (10/2013): Freshly cut flowers, raspberries, mint, anise and licorice all waft from the glass in Gaja's 2010 Barbaresco. Mid-weight, gracious and utterly impeccable, the 2010 stands out for its balance and harmony. Sweet floral notes reappear on the finish, adding lift and brilliance. All the elements fall into place in this supple, beautifully balanced Barbaresco that represents the essence of the vintage. I am surprised how open and accessible the 2010 is for a young Gaja Barbaresco. Although the 2010 will be better in a few years, it already drinks well with a little air. VM 92+ (12/2013): Good bright medium red. Enticing, nuanced nose offers red berries, red cherry and spicy, earthy underbrush. Rich, broad and fine-grained, with lovely inner-mouth perfume and tension. Seemed to shut down in the glass, showing a penetrating juicy quality and finishing with suave tannins and terrific length. A splendid Barbaresco. |

WA 97+ (2/2013): I hope one day to have another chance to taste a vertical of Roccamonfina Terra di Lavoro because I have a strong feeling the 2010 will occupy a place among the very finest vintages produced on this tiny vineyard on the slopes of the Roccamonfina volcano. An exotic melange of tar, smoke, graphite, blackberry jam and savory herbs explode from the glass. The 2010 is intense and full-bodied, yet also incredibly elegant. A big, breathtaking wine, the 2010 continues to build all the way through to a deeply resonant, expressive finish. I would choose to leave this uttterly beguiling Campanian red alone for the better part of a decade, but readers are going to have a very hard time excercising that patience. This is a fabulous effort from proprietors Arturo and Dora Celentano, and their long-time winemaker Riccardo Cotarella. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. WS 93 (12/2012): A dark, beefy red, with layers of game, underbrush and wild herb to the dark blackberry, cassis and plum skin notes. Today the 2010 is painfully young and less expressive than the Gavarini, but equally promising. A generous, resonant wine, the 2010 blossoms in all directions with seemingly endless layers of dark, balsamic-inflected fruit. WA 97 (8/2013): A star on the vast stage that is the Antinori wine empire, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a seamless and stunning wine. It’s one of those rare wines that inspires praise and excited conversation from the very second you raise the glass to your nose. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Baritone aromas of black cherry, black currant, cured meat, sweet spice, Spanish cedar, mocha and wild Mediterranean herbs come together in graceful unity. In the mouth, the wine is exceedingly smooth and decadent with a long velvety trail that softly coats the palate. This is one for the cellar. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. JS 95 (11/2013): A rich, beautiful wine with a dark-chocolate, currant and raspberry character. Full body with velvety tannins and a clean finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. This is very youthful and needs at least three years of bottle age. VM 90 (9/2012): (a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah): Bright red. Fruit-driven aromas of blueberry, strawberry and roast coffee; shows an exotic, candied-fruit character typical of many Tuscan Coast cabernet/merlot/syrah blends. Sweet and lush on entry, then mountingly austere toward the back, showing floral and dark chocolate flavors and lovely vinosity. Finishes with very good persistence. |

| VM 96+ (8/2013): Isole e Olena's 2010 Cepparello is magnificent. In particular, I admire the way the wine fleshes out in all directions, with seemingly endless layers of dark, mineral-infused berry, plum and pomegranate notes. A primal wine in need of significant cellaring, the 2010 is easily one of the highlights of the year. Bright, saline notes support the precise finish. Today, the 2010 is naturally quite backward and undeveloped, but it should be a gem in another 5-10 years. This is an especially dark, structured Cepparello built for the cellar. The 2010 brightens up with time in the glass, but it remains one of the darker, more brooding wines made in the estate's history. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 91 (6/2014): The 2010 Barolo Brunate starts off with savory notes of cured meat and smoked bacon that unfold to reveal dark fruit and bitter chocolate as the wine evolves. Wines from the Brunate cru always deliver an extra sense of boldness and ripeness and Marcarini’s expression is no exception. Chopped mint, cinnamon and black olive appear at different stages of the experience. The tannins show some astringency so give this wine an extra year or two of cellar aging. Drink: 2017-2027. VM 93 (9/2014): Deep and beguiling in the glass, the 2010 Barolo Brunate shows the intrigue that is such a central theme in wines from this great site. Rose petal, violet and lavender notes open up in the glass, followed by dark red stone fruits, spices, menthol and tobacco. Broad, firm tannins provide the framework, but this is an unusually polished, young Brunate that is quite impressive, even at this early stage. The texture, breath and layered finish is pure Brunate. VM 99 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo is one of the most striking, hauntingly beautiful wines I have ever tasted here. Mysterious and slow to show its cards, the 2010 impresses for its inner perfume, sweetness and exceptional overall balance. Today the striking fruit and classic, austere elements of the vintage take turns in dominating the wine's balance. The 2010 was always magnificent in barrel. It is equally spectacular from bottle. Readers who can find the 2010 should not hesitate. Ideally I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle until age 15 or so, although I doubt I will personally have the discipline to follow my own advice! WA 96+ (7/2014): The 2010 Barolo is a singularly elegant expression that benefits from extremely long maceration time (up to 54 days) and a non-interventionists’ winemaking philosophy. The wine is superb in its elegance and finesse that caresses the palate in the most delicate and ethereal manner imaginable. Small fruit tones are enhanced by ash, crushed mineral, licorice and dried mint. Because of changes in how Barolo can be labeled, the wine no longer carries the names of the four single-vineyards that make up the traditional blend for this wine (Canubbi, San Lorenzo, Rue and Rocche di La Morra). Instead, this historic wine is now labeled straightforward “Barolo.” Drink: 2017-2038. VM 95+ (12/2013): Bright medium cherry-red. Burgundian red fruits, minerals, rose petal and blood orange on the nose, plus a hint of cotton candy. Pure and penetrating but utterly seamless, showing a plush texture and terrific lift to its flavors of red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, rose petal and minerals. Subtle rather than particularly powerful, but the brilliantly vibrant finishing flavors stain the palate on the building, finely tannic back end. Wonderfully elegant wine: surprisingly accessible today but sure to be a cellar treasure. |

Barolo Monprivato Lightly Scuffed Label |

WA 97 (6/2015): Mauro Mascarello does not disappoint with his stunning 2010 Barolo Monprivato. This is an impeccable expression from Castiglione Falletto that imparts an immense sense of purity and elegance. The bouquet opens slowly to reveal pressed flower, cola, dried ginger, forest fruit and balsam herb. This is a magnificent expression of Nebbiolo that changes and shifts each time you come back to contemplate its aromas. That magical fluidity is also present in the mouth. The wine presents silky tannins and crisp fruit flavors. Given the sheer quality on display now, you can count on Barolo Monprivato to continue a slow and successful evolution in your cellar. This is a true beauty. WS 96 (4/2015): Starts out elegant and perfumed, sporting cherry and berry flavors, picking up earth, licorice, leather and spice notes. This is all about the silky texture and civilized tannins that should come together in the next few years. Spice and earth accents line the finish. Best from 2017 through 2033. 1,870 cases made. VM 93-96 (11/2013): (this was a treat Mascarello pulled from cask at the end of my tasting): Medium red. Knockout nose showcases tangy red fruits, minerals and porcini. Conveys an impression of superb concentration and dusty extract, with the tactile solidity of the best young 2010s already coming through in spades. A wine of great length and potential. I'll play the interventionist wine writer and wonder out loud why this won't be bottled for another year. But as devil's advocate to my devil's advocate, 2010 is one vintage that generally has the extract and energy to benefit from an extended elevage. VM 89 (3/2015): Mascarello's 2010 Barolo Monprivato shows good depth and volume in the glass, but the flavors are also a touch forward, which is a bit unusual for the year. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, mint, white pepper and orange peel linger on the delicate finish, all supported by silky, polished tannins. The 2010 is a bit more fully formed than it was a few months ago, but I don't find the pedigree of the best years, and I say that after having had the 1989, 2004 and 2008 in the days leading up to this visit. |

| WA 98 (6/2018): The 2010 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio is one of the defining wines of this iconic vintage. This important wine was not made in 2009 or 2011. There will be releases in 2012 and 2013. However, the Mascarello family is not yet sure about 2014. If they do release the wine in that vintage, bottle production will be very small. Generally speaking, 4,000 bottles is the normal production target. This wine should be released more or less as this report is published in late spring 2018. There is a lot to say here, starting with the bouquet that is precisely defined and layered. You get tones of forest fruit, crushed mineral, wild sage and balsam herb. There are renderings of iodine, anise seed and licorice as well. What stands out most is the wine's seamless integration. The tannins are firm and dry, with just enough latitude to offer future development. This wine ages in bottle for two and a half years before its commercial release. It should not be touched for at least 5 more years, or preferably more. |

| VM 90 (12/2013): In 2010, proprietor Enzo Pontoni did not bottle any of his top reds. Instead, readers will find the 2010 Rosso, a gorgeous, entry-level offering that captures plenty of Miani intensity, but with less richness than is typically found in the flagship wines. Mocha, espresso, black cherries, licorice and savory herbs flow from this nuanced, chiseled Friulian red. The 2010 Rosso is beautiful and classy to the core. It will also drink well upon release. JS 96 (12/2014): Gorgeous aromas of sea salt, savory, smoked meats and dried fruits follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a long and intense finish. So beautiful and enticing. Goes on for minutes. Excellent quality for the standard bottling of this winery. Better in 2016. WA 96 (2/2015): The Outstanding 2010 Brunello di Montalcino gives you everything you want to see in a great wine, a great Tuscan wine. This monumental expression of Sangiovese delivers top-notch intensity with seamless integration of aromas. They span from dark fruit and Morello cherry to chocolate, spice, licorice, balsam herb and rosemary sprig. The energy and vitality of the vintage is locked perfectly within. This Brunello exhibits especially soft, silky tannins with long persistence and momentum. There is nothing out of place and the price tag is certainly not exaggerated for this level of excellence. VM 91 (2/2015): Black cherries, plums, lavender, smoke, spices and wild flowers jump from the glass in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. Today, the flavors are bright and primary, while the tannins are tightly wound. I would prefer to drink the 2010 sooner rather than later, though, while the fruit retains its vibrancy. The Brunello di Montalcino, often informally called the 'white label', is aged exclusively in cask. |

| JS 99 (12/2014): This is very muscular for the vintage. It shows lots of stones, dark fruits and hints of tar. Full body, firm tannins and a chewy texture. Ripe and rich. Yet shows tension and intensity. This racy and structured. Tannic now but will show its greatness in 2018. As it should be from one of the masters but the new hand of his son Giovanni Neri is showing through with a touch more finesse. |

VM 92+ (2/2015): Col d'Orcia's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vendemmia is all finesse. Sweet floral and spiced notes open up in the glass, followed by veins of bright red stone fruits. Hints of orange peel and white pepper add an attractive, beguiling upper register of aromatics. The 2010 is still a bit raw and much less expressive than it was from barrel, but it is promising. JS 92 (12/2014): A traditional styled Brunello with nuts, cherries and plums on the nose and palate. Full to medium body, firm tannins and a fresh and lively finish. Delicious now but better in 2016. WA 91 (2/2015): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is surprisingly subdued on first nose and a little unsteady on its feet at this young stage. Give it time and the wine gracefully brings out a long chorus line of aromas that hit the high notes and well and the low ones in slow increments. The bouquet is redolent of small forest berry, white ash, smoke, licorice, balsam herb and delicate spice. It's important to underline the extremely elegant and feminine personality of this wine. This Brunello has no place to go but up in terms of its complexity and evolution. Put it aside for at least five more years before popping the cork. |

VM 98 (1/2017): How many dinners anywhere start with a wine on a level with the 2010 Ornellaia? I imagine not many. But that’s exactly the way we get going. Super-expressive aromatics soar out of the glass as the 2010 shows off its personality. Sweet herbs, tobacco, licorice, mocha and tar wrap around a core of intense dark fruit. Racy, powerful and majestic, the 2010 is a total stunner. Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (8/2013): Poured from the special anniversary bottle, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a truly outstanding wine that leaves a lasting memory for those who are lucky enough to enjoy it. What stands out is the absolutely seamless-seamless-seamless (yes, it's worth repeating three times) integration of its many moving parts. The wine magically transitions from cherry, spice, chocolate and espresso in one melodic and continuous loop. It exudes balance and elegance over long, delicious minutes. It is profoundly impressive. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. Of all the grapevines planted on the Ornellaia estate, the 2010 vintage showed best results with Merlot, says Leonardo Raspini. Because the harvest was later than usual, the early-ripening grape enjoyed a slow and steady evolution. |

WA 96 (3/2016): With so many fantastic wines produced in 2010, it's hard to make a shortlist of your favorites. One expression that should definitely be included is the stunning 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro. This is a graceful and super elegant wine with bold aromatic intensity that is followed by firm tannins and a polished, smooth texture. It offers power in the proverbial silken glove. But the wine is not simplistic by any stretch. The longer it warms in the glass, the more it delights and surprises. Delicate tones of wild berry, cassis, blanched almond and dried ginger work together in harmony. VM 93+ (2/2016): A dark, powerful wine, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro is endowed with serious depth and intensity. Mocha, black cherry, smoke, licorice and dark fleshed fruits are some of the signatures. This is an especially dark, brooding Brunello with massive fruit but less of the sheer radiance of the straight Pianrosso. Today, the 2010 comes across as a bit heavy. It will be interesting to see if acquires more finesse during its aging. The 2010 spent four full years in cask. (Drink between 2020-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 94+ (11/2013): (14.7% alcohol with 6.0 grams of acidity; bottled the week before my visit): Good full, dark red. Lovely floral perfume to the tangy red cherry aroma; I might have picked this as Burgundy from the nose. Juicy, intense and sharply delineated, with compelling inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of red cherry, raspberry and rose petal. Finishes juicy and tight but seamless, with silky tannins and lovely lift. Very 2010 in its razor-sharp precision and penetrating length. Little obvious sign of oak here, which is all to the good. | VM 94+ (2/2015): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is in no mood to show all its cards today. This is a decidedly dark, brooding Brunello for Poggio di Sotto. In 2010, the fruit is quite dark, which suggests a late harvest, perhaps pushed to the limit. At the same time, there is plenty of underlying structure and tannin. This is going to be a fascinating Brunello to follow over the next two decades or so, but readers should expect a wine that is stylistically a bit of a departure. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (8/2013): The 2010 Saffredi (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) delivers gorgeous intensity and broad aromas of black berry, leather, crushed granite and lingering smoke. It’s a masterpiece on all happy fronts. The textural elegance is superb. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025. VM 93 (7/2013): The aromas of blueberries and lavender come out nicely in the glass. Full body, with fine tannins and a bright acidity. The texture is wonderful here. Needs two or three years to come together. Saffredi is a benchmark in Tuscany's Maremma region. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot. WS 90 (10/2013): Black cherry and licorice flavors hold the center, with accents of vanilla, clove, cedar and wood resin. This is concentrated and backed by stiff tannins, leaving a firm finish for now. Needs time. Best from 2016 through 2029. 1,875 cases made. |

VM 100 (9/2014): Rampolla's 2010 d'Alceo is utterly spellbinding today. Even better than it was last year, the 2010 impresses for its exceptional balance and pure finesse. Everything is simply in the right place. Silky, layered and unbelievably expressive, the 2010 d'Alceo is a thrill from the very first taste. Over the decades the Di Napoli family has made so many breathtaking wines, but the 2010 d'Alceo is something more than breathtaking, and that something more is hard to express with words. Readers lucky enough to taste the 2010, however, will know it right away. What a magnificent wine this is. Antonio Galloni. WS 95 (9/2015): A mix of blackberry, black cherry, cedar, tobacco and spice flavors runs up against dense, muscular tannins in this tight, linear red. Juicy and vibrant, with plenty of fruit, this just needs time to harmonize. Terrific length. Best from 2018 through 2028. 1,250 cases made. JS 95 (11/2014): Plenty of currant, herb and mineral character. Bright and lifted with so much complexity. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Layered and beautiful. From organically grown grapes. Cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. Better in 2016. WA 94 (10/2014): The 2010 Vigna d’Alceo Vino da Tavola is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot folded so deep within one another, it’s difficult to hear the varietal voice of the wine. Dried cherries and blackberry appear as primary tones, but the wine also offers a good dose of spice, black olive, rosemary twig and dried plum. The wine takes its time to open in the glass and will probably require much patience in terms of cellar aging as well. |

VM 97 (9/2014): The 2010 Barolo Tre Tine is classic and austere to the core. Here, the blend of sites yields a massively tannic, old-school Barolo that is for the exceedingly patient. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, cedar and licorice are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. The 2010 is incredibly focused, with tons of Le Coste in its flavor profile, but above all else, in its structure. Intense, searing tannins support the finish. Most people will desperately want the Brunate, and with good reason. It is a magical wine. But readers should not forget the Tre Tine. It is much less showy today, but in many ways it is a more typical Rinaldi Barolo for its sense of classic austerity. WS 93 (12/2014): Juicy cherry, raspberry and currant flavors are accented by flowers, tea and tobacco in this elegant, intense red. Long and harmonious, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, spice and mineral. Best from 2017 through 2032. 550 cases made. |

VM 98 (5/2016): One of the many highlights in this vertical, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is exceptionally beautiful. Today, the 2010 comes across as refined and polished, with veins of bright acidity that give the wines its sense of energy, drive and polish. Over the last few months, the 2010 has begun to close in on itself. I can't say that is surprising given how much stuffing there is. Readers lucky enough to own the 2010 are in for a real treat. When all is said and done, the 2010 is profound and riveting in every way. (Drink between 2018-2040). Antonio Galloni. WA 98 (3/2016): Salvioni makes stunning wines that appeal to die-hard Brunello fanatics. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiole shows enormous purity, varietal personality and beautifully balanced intensity. The wine hits all of your senses at once. The bouquet offers red cherry, licorice, dried rosemary, ginger and cola. You taste the most elegant, delicate and ethereal notes that can be extracted from Sangiovese. The tannins are super fine and the texture is silky and supple. This is an iconic wine. |

WA 97 (6/2014): The single-vineyard 2010 Barolo Cannubi Boschis speaks in confident tones at high volumes. First produced in 1985, Cannubi Boschis is among the first single vineyard cru expressions made in Barolo. Thirty-five-year-old vines enjoy south and southeast exposures at 250 meters above sea level. The long 2010 growing season has favored optimal tannin ripeness and fine complexity on the bouquet. This is one of the standout wines of this celebrated vintage. It is well worth putting this wine at the back of your cellar where it will be untouched for years. Drink: 2017-2030. VM 97 (2/2020): The 2010 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic maturity. Dark and dense on the palate, the 2010 remains massively tannic in feel, though. Tasting the 2010 next to the current releases shows the style prevalent at the time that favored more overt fruit, greater extraction and heavier oak signatures. Black cherry, espresso, chocolate, menthol and dried flowers all develop as the 2010 opens up with time in the glass. This is dark, virile and powerful in style; I would wait a few years, as it is going through a phase of closure today. (Drink between 2020-2035). Antonio Galloni. |

| WS 93 (10/2013): A plush, textured red, featuring layers of pure cherry, raspberry, leather, briar and tobacco flavors. Concentrated and juicy, getting support from the dusty tannins on the finish. Needs air, so decant now, or cellar. Best from 2016 through 2026. 2,500 cases made. |

VM 95 (1/2014): Dark red fruit, iron, smoke, incense and orange peel are some of the many notes that flesh out in the 2010 Barolo Bric del Fiasc. A deep, fleshy Barolo, the Bric del Fiasc is incredibly polished and refined, with perhaps a bit less power than previous vintages, but more in the way of finesse. At this stage, the Bric del Fiasc comes across as not fully formed. It will be interesting to see what the next year brings. JS 95 (3/2014): Fabulous aromas of black fruits and shitake mushrooms with hints of bark. Full body, with wonderful firm tannins that are polished and refined. Needs at least three or four years of bottle age. VM 94+ (12/2013): Good full red. Knockout ineffable nose combines red berries, smoke, pepper and herbs. Pure silk on entry, then rather compact and closed in the middle despite its serious density and underlying richness. Most impressive today on the savory, echoing back end, where the tannins are buffered by red fruits and smoke. This wonderfully supple, full, youthfully medicinal wine needs time in bottle to express itself. |

JS 97 (10/2015): Intense aromas of dried citrus and meat with hints of rose bush and fresh rosemary. Full body with full, velvety tannins and a decadent, rich finish. Fascinating flavors of spice, citrus and meat. Loads of fruit. From biodynamically grown grapes. Better in 2016. WS 96 (6/2015): (WS #13 wine of 2015) Mint and eucalyptus aromas give way to dried cherry and soy flavors in this firmly tannic Brunello. Sweetness and acidity drive the long finish of fruit, spice and mineral. Should be a great bottle in time. Best from 2019 through 2036. 1,700 cases made. WA 94+ (2/2015): I am absolutely impressed by the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino from La Serena. The style is bold and far-reaching (the alcohol clocks in at 15%) yet the volume is never turned up so high as to drown out the delicate layers of cassis, balsam herb, rosemary and dried tobacco that flutter weightlessly at the back. In addition to the high quality of fruit, the wine exhibits seductive notes of spice, tobacco and dried jerky. This excellent Brunello has not yet started its bottle evolution. Its prime drinking window won't open for another six to ten years so you'll need to be extremely patient. |

| VM 96 (8/2013): The 2010 Sette Ponti is drop-dead gorgeous. Tar, licorice, incense, plums and graphite jump from the glass in a wine that impresses for its nuance, delineation and sheer class. The tannins are firm, but also beautifully balanced. Readers should give the 2010 a few years in bottle to come around, but even today, the wine's balance is utterly impeccable. This is a great showing from Sette Ponti. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 92 (8/2012): Intense aromas of dried cherries and plums with hints of rose stem. Full body, with fine tannins and a crisp and delicious finish. Very yummy. Drink now or hold. VM 91 (9/2012): Purple-tinged ruby-red. Primary aromas of cassis, ripe black cherry, licorice and ink, with a welcome violet note adding freshness; much darker and riper than the Le Difese. Smooth, dense and full, with impressively concentrated dark fruit flavors lifted by harmonious acidity. Finishes with a trace of heat and a repeating blackberry note. Another very serious Guidalberto, though this strikes me as being a good deal riper and bigger than some more perfumed, refined versions of years past. Still, insiders know that this is a sure-bet restaurant choice as it's usually as good as, but much less expensive than, some of the Tuscan Coast's big names. WS 90 (10/2012): Cherry, black currant, violet and iron notes mingle in this medium-bodied, intense red, which tends toward a lean, sinewy profile, yet remains long and persistent. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2013 through 2020. 15,000 cases imported. WA 90 (6/2012): The 2010 Guidalberto comes across as cool and inward in this vintage. Most recent Guidalbertos have been delicious upon release, but this is a wine that will need another year or two before it starts opening up. There is plenty of energy and vitality in the glass, but readers will need to be patient. Dark red cherries, flowers, licorice and a hint of tobacco are layered into the firm, structured finish. In 2010 the blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. |

WA 96 (8/2013): The 2010 Sassicaia Bolgheri Sassicaia brings back some of the brambly rosemary and wild Mediterranean brush that was missing in 2009. This will greatly appeal to enthusiasts of Sassicaia’s trademark elegance. The wine shows extreme purity that brings its many beautiful aromas into startling focus and clarity. Lingering tones of black fruit and Oriental spice add subtle shades at the back. The wine mostly certainly shows its pedigree in the exciting and beautifully balance manner it evolves in the glass: It tells a new story each time you return to observe the bouquet. This is the harbinger of cellar longevity. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040. VM 96 (8/2013): The 2010 Sassicaia is intensely saline, savory and energetic. Rosemary, sage, plums and black cherry notes meld into graphite, crushed rocks and a host of other more mineral-inflected nuances. Beautifully persistent and chiseled in the glass, the 2010 is ultimately all about energy. This is going to be a fascinating vintage to follow. JS 94 (6/2013): The 2010 Sassicaia was just released and it's an Outstanding bottle. I think that people are going to love this newest Sass. The red is very aromatic with currant, dried berry, cocoa bean, and hints of wood. It's full-bodied, with intense yet very polished tannins and a long finish. It's very refined and beautiful with a tangy finish. The Cabernet Franc comes through here at the finish. Lively. Hard not to drink now. WS 94 (10/2013): Cedar, sandalwood and spice notes lead off, with cherry, currant and rhubarb flavors underneath. Linear in profile, with a firm base of tight-grained tannins, this lingers beautifully on the finish. Persistent from beginning to end, this just needs time to expand. Best from 2016 through 2027. 36,600 cases made. |

| VM 96+ (9/2014): The 2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is going to need quite a bit of time to fully come together. Dark cherries, plums, tobacco and spices burst from the glass in an intense, structured Barolo that hits all the high notes. Next to the Ravera, the Bricco delle Viole is more floral, lifted and finessed, especially with time in the glass. Rose petals, savory herbs and sweet spices add the last nuance of complexity. The 2010 is fabulous; it's as simple as that. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 99 (1/2015): Absolutely stunning aromas of nectarine, orange peel, sweet black cherry, plum, flower, licorice and mushroom. Full body with layers of ultra-fine tannins and hints of tangy acidity. Such beautiful length and beauty to this wine. It's powerful and structured but shows a gorgeous finesse and length. Truly wondrous. So long and refined. The texture is phenomenal. Better in 2016. WS 96 (6/2015): Effusive aromas of incense, green olive, sweet strawberry and cherry, licorice and leather mark this structured version. The tannins are on the beefy side, but this finishes long, with enough fruit and spice for balance. Best from 2018 through 2032. 5,500 cases made. VM 94 (2/2015): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the very best wines I have tasted here in recent years. Dark red cherries, mint, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice are all deeply expressive in a mid-weight, very classic feeling Brunello long on class and personality. Big yet silky tannins frame the dramatic, intense finish. The Valdicava wines are always big, but the 2010 is a bit pulled back, and striking. Antonio Galloni. WA 93 (2/2015): The gamy 2010 Brunello di Montalcino does a great job of presenting intensity and elegance all in the same delicious package. That's not easy to do and the excellent 2010 fruit plays a big role in achieving this goal. The wine offers a long succession of aromas that span from ripe fruit, to smoked meat, to grilled herb and soft spice. Delicate tones of licorice, cola and anise seed add life and energy. The list goes on. The wine's mouthfeel is best characterized by softness and structure, a two-fold approach that gives high hopes for the long aging potential of this wine. Valdicava's Brunello will appeal to those who love earthy and leathery notes in their Brunello. |

JS 100 (11/2016): A wine with superb finesse and depth. So subtle and understated yet powerful and long. The tannin intensity is amazing. It just builds like a massive wave. Superb. Give this time in the bottle. The length is endless. Better in 2018. WS 96 (6/2016): A pure, focused style, with a beam of black cherry anchoring the leather, mineral, hibiscus tea and earth flavors. Well-structured, young and fresh, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, mineral and woodsy details. Best from 2019 through 2035. 3,900 cases made. WA 95+ (8/2016): Here is a big wine with lofty ambitions and an impactful presentation. The Valdicava 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano hits all the right buttons. The wine shows a profound sense of elegance and poise with subtle berry notes that blend into spice, licorice and tar. Those bright and lively aromatic components fold gracefully within the wine's tight texture, its sheer power and the silky nature of the tannins. This wine promises a long and steady aging future ahead. VM 93 (2/2016): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a classic Valdicava wine built on power, intensity and depth. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, dark spices and menthol make a strong first impression, followed by huge waves of tannin and acidity that will require at least a few years to settle down. In a part of Montalcino that is known for finesse, the Madonna del Piano is decidedly powerful, concentrated and extracted. Readers will want to give the 2010 a good bit of air, as the Madonna del Piano needs quite a bit of time to open up. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 94 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is beautiful in the way it brings together the vibrancy of the year with a soft, inviting textural presence. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, anise and red berries are all woven together nicely in the glass. With time in the glass, the wine blossoms with exquisite finesse, floral aromatics and exquisite overall balance. Ripe, silky tannins support the exquisite finish. An insanely beautiful wine, the 2010 will give readers a good idea of just how great the 2010 vintage is at Vietti. The Barolo Castiglione is made from a large number of parcels across the Barolo zone, many of which are of a high enough level of quality that they could be bottled separately. This is first-class juice. |

| VM 96 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Lazzarito is impeccably polished, silky and refined, especially for a Serralunga Barolo. Mint, violets, black fruit, smoke and deep layers of spices are some of the many notes that flesh out on the inviting, textured finish. Today, the Lazzarito is incredibly primary to the point of being raw and undeveloped, but it is explosive, bursting with energy and flat-out great. This is also the first recent vintage I can remember tasting where the French oak is more in line with the other single-vineyard Barolos. Antonio Galoni. |

| VM 100 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Ravera is one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted from Vietti. Stunning. It's as simple as that Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, crushed rocks and pine jump from the glass in a vivid, crystalline wine endowed with captivating purity, clarity and finesse. The 2010 takes hold of the palate and never lets up, gaining body, breadth and volume over time. A breathtaking, perfumed finish rounds out the finish. The Ravera represents a bit of a stylistic departure for Vietti and a return to a more traditional style of winemaking. The 2010 was done entirely in cask, with minimal racking. In its early years, it was virtually impossible to taste as the reductive winemaking style gave a wine with closed aromatics and searing tannin. Today, the 2010 is beginning to blossom into an epic Barolo. The 2010 Ravera may well be the single greatest Barolo Luca Currado has ever made. It is also a wine that, along with the Barolos of Elvio Cogno, show just how much potential the hills of Ravera have to offer. Readers who can find the 2010 Ravera should not hesitate. It is a legendary, benchmark Barolo in the making. As an aside, a bottle of the 1999 I tasted last year was extraordinary, and it was made in the slightly more modern style that was typical at Vietti during that era. Antonio Galloni. |
