| VM 90 (10/2012): Manzone's 2008 Barolo Castelleto is a pretty, juicy wine laced with sweet red cherries, flowers, tobacco, anise and mint, all of which come together nicely. This is a decidedly feminine, gracious Barolo for the year, also influenced by the relatively high altitude of these vineyards. Firm yet well-integrated tannins add grip on the finish. | VM 91 (10/2007): Dark medium ruby. Youthful, reticent nose speaks clearly of nebbiolo with its wonderfully deep, pure red rose, red cherry, spicy plum and tar aromas. Extremely elegant on the palate, this is dense, lush and seamless, with racy, ripe flavors of red plum and red cherry lifted by a hint of citrus. The penetrating, sappy red fruit flavors boast surprising lift and definition for the vintage thanks to harmonious, fine acidity. A wine of superb clarity and cut, with fine-grained tannins and a long finish. Ian D'Agata. |
