VM 95-98 (9/2018): Pale yellow. Wonderfully delicate and discreet on the nose, hinting at lemon drop and minerals; Boillot says he's normally the first to harvest in Montrachet and this wine certainly conveys an early-picked aspect. Pure and silky on the palate and thicker than the Chevalier-Montrachet, but with terrific inner-mouth cut. Displays impeccable balance on the very suave, slowly rising finish. Can a wine be both understated and explosive? "Two thousand seventeen is a real fruit year," says Boillot, and in fact this citrussy, floral Montrachet is not yet showing the site's iodiney minerality. But that will come. Stephen Tanzer. WA 93-96 (1/2019): The 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru is among the most reserved wines in the cellar, unfurling in the glass with a reticent bouquet of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and light reduction that wasn't revealing its full range when I tasted it. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with broad shoulders and evident power, concluding with a stony finish, but the full extent of its quality is hard to read. |

| BH 93 (6/2019): A cool and admirably pure nose displays notes of green apple, floral, citrus and a hint of wood toast. There is excellent volume, power and punch to the well-detailed and overtly stony broad-shouldered flavors that coat the palate on the impressively long finish that also reflects a bitter lemon nuance. While this is a classically styled CC, it remains relatively refined and should drink reasonably well after only 5 years or so of bottle age. Drink 2027+. |

Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles |
$175 |

VM 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru is the final vintage, since Jacques Carillon’s lease from his father finished and his brother François Carillon took over the entire holding. This has a lilting nose of red apple and hints of lime, displaying fine mineralité and focus and wonderfully integrated oak. The palate is very well balanced with sour lemon and hints of toffee apple on the entry and good weight in the mouth. The finish fans out with great vigor. Superb! (Drink between 2021-2035). Neal Martin. BH 91 (7/2024): A smoky resin and petrol-inflected nose is trimmed in just enough wood influence to merit mentioning it. The delicious and racy medium weight flavors offer solid intensity with fine delineation while exhibiting very good length on the lingering and reasonably well-balanced finish. I say reasonably well-balanced because there is a touch of warmth but overall, this is quite good and a wine that should peak in the next 3 to 5ish years. Tasted twice with consistent notes. (Drink starting 2027). WA 90 (1/2020): The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles is the last vintage that Jacques Carillon produced from this site—planted to Pinot Noir until 2003—which has now reverted to his brother François. Revealing aromas of citrus oil, crisp green apple, white flowers and mandarin, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and incisive, with a precise, mineral finish. |

WA 94 (1/2020): The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is showing brilliantly, bursting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, musky orange blossom, Anjou pear and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with fine concentration, racy acids, and a long, nicely defined finish. Incisive but enveloping, this is a terrific young wine from Jacques Carillon. BH 92 (6/2020): A restrained yet elegant nose reflects notes of mineral reduction, white flower, citrus, quinine and a whiff of oak toast. The even sleeker and more tightly would middle weight flavors brim with minerality as well as plenty of dry extract that buffers the moderately firm acid spine shaping the linear and highly persistent finish. This chiseled effort could use a bit more depth, but the underlying material is present for that to occur. (Drink starting 2029). VM 90 (8/2021): The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has quite a boisterous nose, powerful if just missing the focus of its peers. A very slight fennel note emerges with time. The palate is balanced and weighty, possibly showing just a touch of botrytis that lends a subtle honeyed note toward the heady finish. This is an instance where I feel the botrytis governs the style of the wine rather than adding another dimension. Yes, I expected a little more from this bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune. (Drink between 2023-2033). Neal Martin. |

| BH 90 (6/2019): A notably floral-suffused nose flashes additional notes of matchstick, spice and plenty of citrus influence. | |
WA 94 (8/2019): A bottling that regularly excels chez Dauvissat, the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet opens in the glass with delicate aromas of citrus peel, grapefruit, crisp green apples and white flowers, with only subtle hints of the oyster shell to come. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, with a deep and tight-knit core, striking tension and a searingly mineral finish. Séchet—where Dauvissat owns a 0.8-hectare parcel—is located in the Vaillons Valley, but its windier situation and soils richer in active limestone mean it's typically much chalkier and more tensile than the other climats that make up Vaillons. VM 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Chablis Sechet 1er Cru is soft and open-knit, not to mention incredibly inviting. Dried pear, almond, spice and savory notes all grace this lovely, absolutely charming Chablis. Pretty floral overtones add to its considerable allure. This is one of the wines in this range that will drink best with minimal cellaring. (Drink between 2020-2032). Antonio Galloni. BH 91 (10/2019): An impressively broad-ranging nose offers up notes of mineral reduction, wet chalk, sea breeze, citrus and dried apple. There is good richness yet also good refinement to the generously proportioned flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the beautifully persistent finish. This too is very good and should age effortlessly. (Drink starting 2027). |

BH 95 (10/2019): (from 4 separate parcels totaling 4.11 ha, 3 of which are all at the top of the slope.) Here too there is enough wood, even though subtle, to merit mentioning on the decidedly cool and reserved nose that offers up plenty of floral elements along with those of citrus, iodine and oyster shell. The lavishly rich, muscular and overtly powerful flavors possess the hallmark minerality that carries over to the dense, citrusy and bone dry finish. This beauty should age effortlessly and is class in a glass. Drink 2032+. VM 94 (1/2020): The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is dense and exotic, with tremendous volume and textural richness that develops with a bit of air. It should start to settle down with more time in bottle. Today, though, I am struck by the wine's sheer weight. Antonio Galloni. |

A less elegant and slightly more wood-influenced nose offers up restrained aromas of essence of white flowers that includes rose petal, lavender and acacia blossom as well as discreet citrus nuances. WA 94 (1/2021): The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly is also very promising, delivering scents of peach, white flowers, fresh hazelnuts, crushed rocks and smoke. Medium to full-bodied and racy, it's saline and precise, with plenty of controlled mid-palate amplitude and a long, mineral finish. VM 93 (8/2021): The 2017 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a well-defined, attractive bouquet of pressed flower, honeysuckle and crushed stone aromas; the oak is very well integrated. The palate is tangy on the entry, offering orange peel and sour lemon notes and good depth, and quite salty toward the finish. There is a lot going on in this busy Saint-Aubin and I suspect that it will age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune. (Drink between 2023-2038). | VM 93 (8/2021): The 2017 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru is nicely focused on the nose, becoming peachy with aeration, then revealing touches of beeswax and ripe clementines; then all of these scents ebb and allow the terroir to flood through. The palate is well balanced with nicely integrated oak, well-judged and plenty of salinity on the finish. This is a classy, quite mercurial Saint-Aubin that I look forward to revisiting with bottle age. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Neal Martin. |
