| BH 88 (10/2006): (.52 ha in both Charmes proper and Mazoyères.) This is also quite aromatically pretty with obvious depth and a mix of game and underbrush aromas but unfortunately, like the Morey, the level of dissolved CO2 is sufficiently high that it detracts from the lovely complexity and fine length the finish delivers. Again, I can't say whether there is a problem with the wine or just this bottle but here I suspect that a few hours of air would go a long way toward curing the hardening effects of the gas. Drink 2010+. |

| BH 90 (5/2004): Classic ruby. This is a much more serious wine with deeper, richer and earthier fruit aromas followed by sappy, precise, nicely complex and racy flavors that are long, intense and offer excellent flavor authority. This is so primary that it suggests that it will require ample time in bottle to be at its best. |

| BH 91 (1/2005): Very fresh and bright spicy black pinot fruit aromas introduce linear, tight and very backward at present with subtle spice notes and an angular, muscular, somewhat robust flavor profile. There is really lovely complexity and a long floral finish of impressive elegance. I like this. (Drink starting 2010). |

WA 92-95 (6/2004): “Its terroir immensely benefited from the dryness of the vintage," said Grivot while serving his Outstanding 2002 Clos Vougeot. Aromatically, this bold wine reveals loads of spicy red cherries. On the palate it is wonderfully sweet, velvety-textured, and extroverted. Copious quantities of red cherries, spices, candied raspberries and earth envelope this beauty’s ripe tannin. It will be delicious relatively young and should age extremely well. Projected maturity: 2007-2020. VM 92 (4/2005): Bright, deep red-ruby color. Wonderful perfumed aromas of sappy red raspberry, minerals and licorice. Silky, lacy and aromatic; opulent and generous yet quite primary. Finer than usual for this wine at Grivot. Crunchy red berry flavors lifted by a note of licorice. Finishes long and classy. BH 92 (1/2005): Ripe, sweet, gamy and very earthy pinot fruit aromas blend into mouth coating, suave, deep and impressively scaled and concentrated flavors that display plenty of power and a certain textured chewy quality on the explosively long but austere back end. Terrific quality with superb underlying material. Drink 2014+. |

VM 94+ (3/2005): Medium red. Deep, sappy aromas of cherry, menthol, flowers and tobacco. Penetrating, aristocratic and gripping, with great nervosite Seems much more primary in the mouth than on the nose, with cool mineral and purple fruit flavors. Firmly structured, young and very long. This also needs a good six or seven years. Stephen Tanzer. BH 94 (1/2005): This too displays noticeable oak influence but it's a bit more subtle because the wonderfully expressive nose of black pinot fruit and spice aromas offer more of a backdrop for the wood. The flavor profile is intense, seductive and spicy with a wonderfully textured and velvety character to the big, rich, forceful flavors of uncommon depth and astonishing length. I underestimated this marginally from barrel and the '02 Riche is long and very stylish and is a clear notch up from the otherwise extremely impressive Clos de Vougeot. (Drink starting 2014). WA 89 (6/2020): The 2002 Richebourg Grand Cru was disappointing, offering up a bouquet that mingles Asian spices and dark chocolate with notions of smoked meats and figgy fruit tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and surprisingly drying and firm in a vintage that's so often characterized by a pure, succulent and indeed almost crystalline expression of fruit. Dare I suggest that its best days are already in the rearview mirror? |

VM 93 (4/2007): Dark red. Deep blackberry and candied plum aromas give an impression of perfect ripeness. Silky-smooth on the palate, with strikingly pure and vibrant flavors of sweet blackberry and cassis. Gains ripeness on the finish, which features seemingly invisible tannins and Outstanding length. Here's another '02 that's utterly delicious now but will be even better for more cellaring. BH 90-93 (1/2004): Backward, reserved and very earthy aromas give way to big, rich, very concentrated and dense flavors that display the classic young Clos de Vougeot characteristic of austerity. This is a powerful but not heavy wine with plenty of firm but ripe structure and plenty of buffering mid-palate sap. This should age for 20 years, perhaps longer. |

| VM 91-93 (3/2004): Red-ruby. Captivating aroma of small red fruits, chocolate and flowers shows a sappy ripeness. WA 89 (7/2015): Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2002 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots was a little smudged and reductive on the nose, developing savoury and dried meat notes with time. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry, good weight but missing the tension and precision that subsequent vintage will bring. Tasted June 2015. BH 92 (1/2005): Curiously, the nose is quite ripe but slightly austere with an airy, pure and superbly elegant breadth of aromas that leads to punchy flavors are full-bodied, rich and delicious with more prominent acidity and a powerful, indeed even explosive finish. The structure is buried and completely buffered by all of the sappy extract and there is an appealing minerality on the extremely persistent finish. This is very classy juice that presently displays a subtle hint of finishing wood. |

WA 91-92 (6/2004): The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques, from a vineyard located just north of Musigny, offers a nose of deep black cherries intermingled with licorice and violets. Light to medium-bodied and detailed, this is a pure, precise wine with grapy, floral flavors. It is gracefully strewn and possesses loads of fruit. Drink it over the next 10-11 years. VM 90+ (4/2005): North Berkeley cuvee Good, bright red. Serious, complex nose melds raspberry, smoke, minerals and rose petal. Densely packed, sappy and juicy, with tangy flavors of wild red berries, flowers and minerals. Suave, firm and nicely delineated. Finishes tight and firmly tannic. Very Chambolle! BH 88-90 (1/2004): Some reduction on the nose makes reading this difficult. The flavors though are rich, full-bodied and sweet and culminate in a dusty, intense and complex finish. Lovely juice with good potential. Drink 2008-14. |

WA 91-92 (6/2004): Violets and black cherries are found in the nose of the lush, soft 2002 Morey-St.-Denis Les Ruchots. This sensual, medium-bodied wine offers sexy layers of sweet red cherries. It is pure, seductive, and sports a long, opulent, fruit-packed finish. VM 89-92 (3/2004): Good full ruby. Complex nose combines blackberry, leather, pepper, mint and bitter chocolate. Juicy, bright and gripping, with sharply delineated blackberry and floral flavors. Fine, horizontal tannins spread out to coat the entire palate. The note of bitter chocolate carries through to the finish. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93 (1/2005): from a 3 ha parcel superbly placed high on the slope, across from the Château. A background touch of wood frames an earthy, slightly gamy nose that leads to ripe, rich, full-bodied and moderately dense flavors that display the classic young Clos de Vougeot quality of an austere backward finish. I like the tannins here as they're finer than usual and this finishes with real freshness and verve. The best Meo Clos de Vougeot since the spectacular '85. Drink 2014+ |

| BH 89-92 (4/2004): Oddly, this is bigger, more serious and more powerful than the Champans with a broad aromatic spectrum of red and black fruits and obvious mineral notes merging seamlessly into dusty, precise and ultra pure middle weight flavors and a much firmer and more persistent backend. There is simply more material here with a buried yet noticeable tannic spine. A terrific wine of impressive balance. |

BH 90 (1/2005): ( from 50 year old vines - this is Mugnier's favorite vineyard in terms of its fruit quality). There is more of everything here with much deeper and more expressive aromas of black cherry fruit nuanced by really impressive complexity and depth followed by richer, sweeter, sappier flavors that offer excellent length. A very fine effort with solid balance and one that should age extremely well. Drink 2010+. Outstanding! VM 90 (4/2005): Palish color. Aromas of raspberry, smoke, brown spices and menthol. Silky for the vintage, and deeper than the village wine, with strawberry syrup and brown spice flavors supported by underlying stoniness. Clearly longer on the aftertaste. WA 89-91 (6/2004): Powerful floral elements perfume the red berry aromas of the 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees. Sensual, medium-bodied, and silky-textured, it gracefully dances across the palate releasing elegant red fruit flavors. This feminine wine would a delight to drink right from the barrel. Projected maturity: now-2012. |

VM 89-91 (4/2004): Medium red. Expressive aromas of strawberry, raspberry and rose petal. Highly perfumed flavors of tangy red berries and flowers. Round, seamless, rather soft Charmes that gives an impression of high pH. (In fact, the volatile acidity here is the highest of these 2002s.) This needs bottling soon. BH 88-91 (1/2004): Some reduction makes it difficult to accurately read the nose though the big, robust and nicely intense flavors are rich, forward and generous, all wrapped in slightly edgy tannins and complemented by a long, delicious, warm finish. Fine if not sensational quality in a very forward style. Drink 2006-2012. |
