| VM 89 (6/1998): Dark ruby-red. Exotic, vibrant aromas of cherry, redcurrant, tobacco, mint, cigar ash and white pepper. Thick, supple and very concentrated; really uncanny creamy sweetness and texture in the middle palate. Intriguing note of sarsaparilla. Substantial but utterly suave tannins are thoroughly buffered by the wine extract. Shows some of the sauvage qualities of past vintages of this wine, but here the fresh red fruit flavors are even fresher and more concentrated than usual. |

WA 95 (6/2001): The fabulous 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is stacked and packed in the mouth. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by a sweet, smoky, cedary, full-bodied character revealing notes of cassis, licorice, and olives. Voluptuous and full-bodied, with the tannin largely concealed by the its wealth of glycerin, fruit, and concentration, this terrific Cabernet Sauvignon will hit its prime in 1-2 years, and last for 15 or more. Impressive! VM 92 (7/2001): Saturated ruby-red. Big, rich nose combines plum, redcurrant, roasted nuts, loam and oak. Rich and deep, but given grip and delineation by strong, integrated acidity. Offers lovely middle-palate sweetness of fruit without being at all over the top. Finishes quite long, with tongue-dusting tannins and late hints of iron and tobacco. At the same high quality as the superb '96 bottling. Stephen Tanzer. |

| WA 91 (12/2000): A great achievement, the 1998 Insignia (78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot): is a fabulous wine from what was a far more challenging vintage. Approximately 18,000 cases were made, an amazing quantity in a year that produced far less promising raw materials. Evolved, with a saturated ruby/purple color, it possesses a sumptuous bouquet of smoke, cedar, licorice, and cassis. This full-bodied, fat, succulent effort reveals admirable purity and symmetry, and a soft finish with remarkably deep flavors that caress the palate. It can be drunk now as well as over the next 15-16 years. |

| WA 90 (6/2000): Produced from a blend of various small plots, the 1998 Zinfandel Old Vines displays opulence, but reveals an earthy, peppery, dried herb component to its dense black cherry, plum, and raspberry fruit. A delicious, round wine, it is best drunk over the next 4-5 years. |
