| WA 93+ (10/2016): The softer, more sexy and up-front style of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon makes it already drinking and appealing. Deep ruby/purple, with notes of black and red currants, cedar, licorice and forest, the wine has terrific fruit, medium to full body, ripe, well-integrated tannins and adequate acidity. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. |

| VM 93 (7/2015): Good full medium red. Darker fruit aromas on the nose than the preceding vintages, showing black- and redcurrant, spices, mint, coffee and violet. Subtly complex and glossy in texture, conveying a savory character and classic dryness to its flavors of plum, black cherry and dried flowers. Bright, well-integrated acidity gives the wine a juicy quality. The long finish features substantial broad, dusty tannins and a repeating note of dried flowers. A lovely mature California Cabernet in a low-alcohol style: I might have identified this blind as a Bordeaux. I recall that I did not like this wine in the early going as I thought its acidity was out of whack, but today it's a beauty. (Drink between 2015-2025). Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 86 (4/1992): The 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon is an improvement over the disappointingly light, hollow 1988 and relatively lean, sterile 1987. The 1989 is dark ruby/purple, with a rich nose of cassis and spicy oak. In the mouth, there is excellent concentration, good weight and elegance, and soft tannins in the finish. It should drink well for at least 8-10 years.
VM 85 (7/2015): Medium red. Bordeaux-like nose combines redcurrant, leather, smoke, spices, minerals, pepper and a note of warm stones, plus a faint suggestion of Madeira. Plush on entry, with redcurrant, licorice and fresh herb flavors nicely framed by well-integrated acidity. Finishes with serious tannins that turn a bit dry. Ric Forman described this wine as "a bit lean and mean, like the 1995." (Drink between 2015-2021). Stephen Tanzer. |

With a beautifully etched, medium to full-bodied feel, exquisite concentration, decent acidity, and firm but soft, sweet tannins, this is a graceful, authoritatively flavored Cabernet for drinking over the next 12-15 years.
VM 92 (7/2015): Healthy bright red-ruby. Darker aromas of black- and redcurrant, cherry, smoked meat, coffee and dark chocolate are complicated by wild spices and a balsamic cedary suggestion. The plushest and silkiest vintage to this point in my tasting, but with a firm spine of tannins and healthy acidity giving serious grip to the wine's dark berry fruit. "I started allowing the fruit to get ripe in 1990, then even riper beginning in 2003," admitted Forman. Offers a lovely combination of complexity and tannic power for such a low-octane Cabernet and finishes with a slight oaky edge (this and post-1990 vintages have been aged in 50% to 75% new barrels). WA 91 (12/1995): It seems like yesterday that Ric Forman began his career, yet he is now one of California's veteran wine-makers. From his early days (nearly 20 years ago) at Sterling he has built an impressive resume. The proprietor of beautiful vineyards tucked high in the hills between the Silverado Trail and Conn Valley, he has launched a new wine, a Merlot from a vineyard called Thorvilos, that he developed along with the well-known viticulturist, David Abreu. The 1995, which had just finished malolactic fermentation, blew me away, but the wine will not be in the marketplace for several years. The 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon is beginning to shut down and reveal more tannin. Some of the baby fat and thickness have taken a back seat to the wine's more structured aspects. Rich and full-bodied, it is less flattering and showy than when I first tasted it. It possesses outstanding concentration, as well as the potential for 20+ years of evolution.
VM 89 (7/2015): Good bright, full red. Less fruity on the nose than the 1991 or 1990, with a black cherry note complicated by licorice, menthol, pepper and shoe polish. Plummy and savory in the mouth but a bit simple and not nearly as interesting as the outstanding 1991. Finishes classically dry and savory, but the substantial, slightly drying tannins cut off the wine's fruit. I'd drink this soon. (Drink between 2015-2019). Stepen Tanzer. |

A hypothetical blend of top-class Medoc and a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, notes of licorice, tobacco leaf, damp earth, black currants and violets are all present in this medium to full-bodied wine, which still has some tannin to resolve. It should hit its peak in another 2-3 years and last for 15+.
VM 91 (4/2023): Tasted from magnum, Ric Forman's 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is dense and chewy in the glass, the 2001 possesses tremendous power. Black cherry, gravel, licorice, leather and menthol build in a dark, brooding Napa Valley Cabernet. There is just a touch of brett that makes the 2001 feel very old world in style. The 2001 shows no signs of fading anytime soon (surely the magnum format helps), but I expected a little more from Ric Forman in a vintage with this pedigree. (Drink between 2021-2028).
