JLL ****** (11/2011): Attractive, quite bright yellow with legs down the glass and a rich look. Savoury, rounded nose - the classic white 2010 has more obvious snap and flint. The aroma is founded around gently cooked banana, peach and nut, ripe lime juice airs. The palate has a velvet texture, is greatly smooth along it. It creeps quietly forward - no hurry, no false moves. It ends on supple, round gras with a little peanut-nut influence. Very young, not varied at all. Serene, well-balanced, that shows a little grouping of late tannin, a flinty intensity. Destined for fine dishes - high quality fish, fleshy fish such as monkfish, or sea bass with a bit more bite, tang. From late 2012 will please for a year or two, then leave it till 2019-20. Very stylish, measured, symphonic wine with buttery final stages. You must wait if you want more variety - it will be a pity to drink this in its youth in effect. JD 97 (9/2011): A profound white, the 100% Roussanne 2010 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvee Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is more fresh and focused than the traditional blanc (and that’s saying something) and delivers spectacularly pure, delineated aromas of fresh peach, apricot, toasted bread, almond paste, and serious minerality. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied wine that is perfectly balanced and possesses a brilliant texture, superb focus and clarity, and classic finish. Brilliant now, this should also age beautifully. Given the general aging curve of these wines, I wouldn’t hesitate to drink bottles over the coming 3-4 years, but after that, would hold off until a decade after the vintage. Thrilling stuff and this is a great vintage for Beaucastel. WS 96 (2/2012): Very rich, this cuts a broad swath, delivering a remarkably lush yet pure core of papaya, mango, green melon and green plum fruit all stitched with macadamia nut, brioche and honeysuckle notes that chime through the superlong finish. There's a great buried stony edge. Roussanne. Drink now through 2024. 200 cases imported. VM 93-95 (2/2012): Light yellow. An explosively perfumed bouquet evokes Meyer lemon, pear skin, jasmine and minerals. Sappy and penetrating, projecting a compelling blend of richness and vivacity. Powerful, incisive orchard fruit and candied citrus qualities put on weight with air and pick up a touch of bitter quinine that carries through the very long, palate-staining finish. Marc Perrin told me that it's a mistake to associate roussanne exclusively with opulence "because when it's planted on limestone it keeps its freshness. The numbers are low on paper but what's in the glass is bright and contradicts the math and oenologists' predictions." WA 94 (10/2011): The luxury cuvee, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Vieilles Vignes (Roussanne) (100% Roussanne aged in one-year-old barrels as well as new oak that no longer undergoes malolactic fermentation) is a prodigious dry white. A luxurious amount of rose water notes intermixed with honeysuckle, pineapple, nectarine, peach and subtle smoke emerge from this beauty. It possesses a terrific texture, zesty acids, an unmistakable minerality and a sumptuous personality. |

| JD 98 (11/2021): Even better, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes comes from a single parcel of very old vines and is 100% Roussanne brought up in barrel. It too is medium to full-bodied and incredibly concentrated, with brilliant white currants, green almond, honeyed mineral, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. The balance is just about perfect, as is the purity of fruit, and this incredible white is one of the top releases in the vintage. As I’ve written in the past, it’s the Montrachet of the Southern Rhône and can evolve for decades in cold cellars. |

JLL ****[*] (6/2011): Lustrous pale yellow robe with a fine aspect about it. Has an oak-forward nose, which is fine, so toasted; there is low-key white fruit behind, a suggestion of lavender, light herbs, spice touches. The palate delivers fine fruit in a pebbly texture - this is not at all unctuous, and reflects therefore the weather of the vintage and the ripening cycle. The palate is oak-flecked, holds a dried fruits flavour, and there is a gradual emergence of flan towards the finish - a little gras. There is a spiced grip on the finish, the length is fresh, breezy, wax and flower influenced. This does not show overt gras, is a fine style of wine. From 2015. Patience will be rewarded. WS 95 (11/2011): Lush yet precise, with green tea, honeysuckle and quinine notes rippling through the core of green plum, pear and Jonagold apple fruit. The finish has mouthwatering minerality and subtle persistence. Seamless and long. Best from 2012 through 2022. 500 cases made. VM 94 (2/2011): Pale gold. Deeply scented aromas of pit fruits and orange marmalade, with hints of smoke and botanical herbs adding complexity. Densely packed but surprisingly lithe in the mouth, offering subtly sweet pit fruit flavors and a solid mineral jolt, as well as mounting spiciness and a strong floral quality. The minerality adds lift and cut to a very long and incisive finish. Chave thinks this will close down soon and be a long ager. WA 92 (2/2011): Consequently, there is little of the 2008 Hermitage Blanc (which was scheduled to be bottled the week after my visit), but it is one of the finest 2008s produced in the Northern Rhone. The wine offers up scents of almond paste, brioche, white currants and quince as well as a full-bodied, concentrated personality displaying good acidity and a more forward style than either the 2009 or 2007. It is best drunk in its first 7-8 years of life. |

WS 99 (11/2013): Ripe and unctuous, showing terrific cut, with heather, white peach, green almond, Anjou pear, persimmon and macadamia nut notes all framed by a toasted brioche hint. Exquisitely detailed through the finish, with salted butter and chamomile details. Remains refined, focused and pure, despite the obvious power. Best from 2017 through 2030. 171 cases imported. WA 97 (12/2012): As for the 2010 Hermitage Blanc, it is an exquisite wine with fabulous fruit intensity. Lots of acacia flower, anise, quince, fig and pineapple intermixed with a hint of white peaches emerge from this well-delineated, full-bodied, enormously endowed, complex, dry white Hermitage. This wine lives up to the reputation bestowed on it by President Thomas Jefferson when he said in the 1780s that white Hermitages were France’s greatest white wine. The 2010 should drink well for 30-40+ years. VM 96 (3/2013): Light gold. Heady, mineral-accented aromas of poached pear, lemon curd, truffle honey, white flowers and ginger, with a smoky topnote. Broad, palate-staining orchard and pit fruit flavors are braced by juicy acidity and pick up spice and toasted grain nuances with air. Notes of iodine and sweet butter come up on the finish, which goes on and on. Josh Raynolds. JLL ***** (11/2012): Glinting yellow robe. The nose is striking - it is ample and complex, varied, with plenty of hidden corners. Butter, peach, flowers, oak line up on parade. The palate has a light touch debut; this is good, linear wine with a cloak of matter and the spine to direct it. While linear, it is also full, and there are no bumps as it travels. The finish is complete and round, bringing forward white raisin, peach and a note of “fine steel”, an aniseed splash. Interesting, plenty to enjoy and muse about. From 2019. “There was a lot of coulure in 2010, and the beauty of it was the balance, even with a small crop. The work of the assembly was to give it a bit more weight without heaviness. It resembles a good 1996 or 1991,” Jean-Louis Chave. Bottled Sept 2012. |

JLL ***** (1/2015): Yellow robe. Varnish, soaked white plums, dried fruits airs combine with verbena, tilleul (linden), brioche baked bread, aniseed, spice and Comte cheese. There is plenty of potential on the nose. The palate bears generous gras richness and body in a rolled up, withdrawn wine. It is elegant inside. The finale is lucid, dentelle, the aftertaste bringing forward aniseed, some licorice. The tightness on the finish is impressive. Come back to this when it is 12 to 15 years’ old for all its possibilities. “It is more serious than the 2012,” Jean-Louis Chave. WS 97 (11/2014): Still a bit reserved aromatically, with hints of orange blossom and crème anglaise peeking out, this features a captivating display of racy quinine, honeysuckle and white peach flavors inlaid into a rich core of brioche, Cavaillon melon, white truffle, smoked almond and heather honey. Incredibly long. Hard to resist now, but be patient. Best from 2019 through 2030. 1,250 cases made. WA 96 (12/2013): Just bottled, the 2011 Hermitage Blanc also shows the richer side of Hermitage with its full-bodied, voluptuously textured and up-front profile. Honeysuckle, licorice, toast, citrus oil and liquid mineral-like qualities all emerge from this beauty, and it stays beautifully fresh and focused on the palate. A blend of mostly Marsanne, yet with roughly 20% Roussanne, from the l’Ermite, Les Rocoules, Maison Blanche and Peleat lieux-dits, this substantial white should be consumed over the coming 2-4 years, or forgotten for a decade or more. It will have over two decades of longevity. VM 95 (3/2014): Light yellow. Intense scents of nectarine, pear skin and lemon curd, with complicating floral and mineral notes gaining power with air. Broad and fleshy but tightly focused, offering vibrant orchard and pit fruit flavors and a refreshingly bitter note of citrus pith. Dry and nervy on the penetrating, powerful. sharply focused finish, which leaves sexy honeysuckle and ginger notes behind. I suspect that this wine will age gracefully on its tension and balance. Josh Raynolds. |

VM 95 (7/2017): Light yellow-gold. Vibrant, mineral-accented citrus and pit fruits, honey and nougat on the intensely perfumed nose, joined by a suave floral nuance. Shows superb depth as well as vivacity, offering sappy orange, pear and nectarine flavors supported a firm spine of smoky minerality. The floral and mineral elements come back strong on the bright, sharply focused, extremely long finish, which leaves a candied lemon zest note behind. Josh Raynolds. JLL ****[*] (12/2015): This is a very good vintage for the white. The wine has abundant style, and inner depth, length. I would not be surprised that this emerges in bottle as a ***** wine when tasted at six years’ old, for example. |

| JD 94 (8/2018): Always a brilliant wine, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is the normal blend of all the permitted varieties, brought up in tank with malolactic fermentation blocked. | VM 94 (6/2023): The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is made with the usual blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Picpoul and Picardan. It is distinctively fragrant, combining expressive aromas of honeysuckle, acacia, grapefruit, lemon peel, white peach, apricot and hints of pineapple. Full-bodied and opulent, it is well-balanced by supple acidity, oily-textured and leaves a deliciously salty aftertaste. Nicolas Greinacher |

WA 95 (9/2024): Crafted from six permitted varieties in equal proportions, co-fermented and cold-settled for one night, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc from Clos des Papes exhales a delicate, complex bouquet of fennel, verbena, pear, iodine, herbs and acacia blossoms. Medium to full-bodied, pure and seamless, it's built around bright acids, a layered, lovely structured texture and a long, ethereal, saline finish. The phenolic aftertaste adds a racy profile that I find particularly appealing. JD 94 (10/2024): The 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is a richer, opulent wine from Vincent that offers beautiful pear, ripe citrus, licorice, and honeyed flower notes in its medium to full-bodied, richly textured, layered style. It's beautifully done and probably best drunk in its first decade of life. |

WA 91 (3/2025): Fresher and livelier than its Paradis Saint-Pierre counterpart, the 2023 Saint-Joseph Silice Blanc reveals aromas of confit citrus, spring blossoms and pear. Moderately weighted and delicately enveloping, it's juicy and layered with bright acids, concluding with a mouthwatering, floral finish. VM 90 (1/2025): Flinty elements introduce the 2023 Saint-Joseph Blanc Silice, accompanied by notes of cedar, ripe pear, white peach and lemon flesh. Full-bodied, round and generous, the 2023 bundles vibrant energy and checks out with persistence on the sapid finish. This is an exquisite white Saint-Joseph. Drink between 2025-2027. Nicolas Greinacher. |

| WA 96-98 (12/2019): I tasted three different components of the 2018 Chateau Grillet. First, from the top of the property, a round, lush, silky, long wine (94 - 96). Second, from just behind the château, a more exotic, tropical barrel that was almost kinky in its restraint, full-bodied, rich and long (96 - 98). Finally, a barrel from an adjacent parcel (also mid-slope) that shows less opulence but even more power, structure and length (97 - 99). This should prove to be another great Chateau Grillet. |

JD 96 (1/2018): The flagship 2016 Condrieu La Doriane also shows the freshness and more classical style of the vintage. Citrus blossom, crushed rocks, honeysuckle, and orange blossom give way to a medium to full-bodied, incredibly elegant Condrieu that gains depth and richness with time in the glass. It will be better this time next year and keep for 7-8 years. JLL ****[*] (11/2017): Bright, rather full yellow. Has a large, broad, impressive bouquet that brims with grilling, oak, tropical fruits. Wham bang! The palate carries a generous, stylish wave of richness laced with mineral coolness that really ignites its quality. It finishes with flair, really races along to the close, oaking on the aftertaste. This is sensaround Condrieu, one that really covers the ground, and deserves turbot, lobster, veal and other joli ingredients. From spring 2018. Decanting advised. WA 94 (12/2017): Bottled in June 2017, the 2016 Condrieu la Doriane is entirely barrel-fermented in new oak. This vintage seems more restrained and less rich than some others, but it remains marked by smoky, grilled apricot aromas and flavors. It’s nicely balanced and not overly opulent, retaining a sense of elegance on the long, spicy finish. |

| JD 98 (11/2020): The 2019 Condrieu La Doriane is another tremendous effort from this estate that does everything right. Reminding me slightly of the 2015 with its power and richness, it still has plenty of freshness in its apricot, ripe pineapple, honeyed marmalade, flowers, and cream aromas and flavors. Already complex and full-bodied, with good acidity and a fabulous finish, this is a quintessential expression of this cuvee and it’s hard to imagine how it would be any better. These always have the capacity to age, yet I find them most enjoyable with 6-12 months of bottle age and then over the following 3-5 years. |

| VM 94 (1/2025): Matured for 9 months in 100% new French oak, the 2023 Codrieu La Doraine takes off with toasty subtleties, mingling pristine white peach, apricot and jasmine with a touch of honeysuckle. Packing elevated flavor concentration on the dense palate, the 2023 is an outgoing, articulate La Doraine. Round and complex, it walks off the stage with a touch of lemon flesh and wet stone on the long, nuanced finish. Drink between 2026-2034. Nicholas Greinacher. |

JD 99 (12/2019): Just about perfection in a glass, the 2017 Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is a tour de force, offering a heavenly bouquet of white currants, quince, toasted bread, spice box, and assorted flower oil-like nuances. Deep, full-bodied, and massively concentrated on the palate, it has a distinct salty minerality, a stacked mid-palate, and bright acidity, all making for a Hermitage Blanc that needs 4-5 years of bottle age, yet will keep for two decades or more. WS 97 (7/2021): Exotic, this ripples with warm, well-steeped boysenberry, blackberry and fig fruit flavors infused with notes of dark tea, singed alder and juniper and wild herbs. All the components move in lockstep, and there are lots of components between the fruit, aromatics and extroverted oak treatment, as well as the serious tug of dark earth at the very end, all wrapped in a cashmere texture. Best from 2025 through 2040. 300 cases made, 60 cases imported. WA 95 (12/2019): Another terrific year for this wine, the 2017 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc offers up smoky, bacony aromas, which add a mouthwatering note to the wine's citrus and melon flavors. It's full-bodied, maybe not as rich, dense or age-worthy as the 2016, yet with great freshness and incisive length. |

| |
| JD 100 (11/2020): Built for the long haul, the 2018 Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is a majestic, noble white that could only come from this incredible, south-facing hillside in Hermitage. Revealing a light gold hue as well as notes of quince, honeyed minerality, toasted spices, orange marmalade, and spring flowers, this deep, rich, and full-bodied white has absorbed just about every trace of its oak élevage and has a concentrated, rich, yet focused and lengthy style. This cuvée had a more oaky, opulent style in the past, but today it comes across as a much more pure, elegant wine while not giving an inch with regard to density, texture, and concentration. As with just about every top Hermitage Blanc today, this offers plenty of immediate pleasure with its pure, fresh, mineral-laced style. Don't discount how much pleasure these wines can offer in their youth and always ignore the "always too young" crowd. This 2018 is going to evolve gracefully and drink brilliantly for 5-7 years, then (maybe) go into a closed, almost oxidative stage, only to emerge after 5-7 years and evolve for decades. |

JD 95 (11/2020): As with the 2018, the Marsanne-dominated 2019 Hermitage Le Chevalier De Sterimberg Blanc includes 30% Roussanne. Lots of buttered citrus, toasted bread, white flowers, and a touch of pineapple all emerge from this young, unevolved, medium to full-bodied Hermitage Blanc. With remarkable purity, bright, integrated acidity, and a great finish, it's very much in the elegant, vibrant style of this cuvee and is beautifully done. Give bottles 2-3 years and it should keep for 20 years or more. WA 94 (5/2021): The 2019 Hermitage Blanc Le Chevalier de Sterimberg is just a bit flinty and smoky on the nose, then bursts with ripe pineapple and pear notes and hints of melon and white peach. Medium to full-bodied, it's almost crystalline in its fruit purity and dimension, with clean edges and ample length capped by an attractive hint of bitterness on the lingering finish. As usual, this is roughly two-thirds Marsanne and one-third Roussanne. |

| JD 91 (12/2022): Lastly, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Couzou Blanc is clearly the ripest in the trio and has a great nose of honeyed white flowers. Stone fruits, gravelly earth, and white peach, as well as a kiss of ginger, develop with time in the glass. It's another medium-bodied, wonderfully balanced, vibrant white that I'd be happy to drink a glass of. It should shine for 3-5 years. |

| JD 89 (5/2024): The 2021 Côtes du Rhône Couzou Blanc is based on Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier, all from more granitic soils. It has a light gold hue as well as a subtle nose of ripe stone fruits, honeyed orange, and spice, and it's medium-bodied, nicely textured, and nicely balanced on the palate. It has a good sense of freshness, but it's certainly a rich white that's going to shine on the dinner table. |

JD 94 (3/2024): Tart quince, orange marmalade, minty herbs, flowers, and green almond notes all show up in the 2022 Saint-Péray Marsanne, another pure, balanced, concentrated, yet still vibrant and fresh white from this talented vigneron. It has good acidity, a focused, structured mouthfeel, and a great finish. VM 91 (3/2024): The 2022 Saint-Péray Marsanne delights with lemon flesh, ripe pear, white peach, honeysuckle and apricot traces. Medium-bodied and utterly refreshing, the 2022 exhibits a juicy core of citrus and stone fruit flavors, all framed up by crisp acidity. It should drink well upon release. NIcholas Greinacher. |

JD 98 (12/2019): Lastly, the flagship white is the 2018 Saint-Peray Pur Blanc, which is 100% Marsanne from 100-year-old vines that was brought up all in barrel. It offers a liquid rock-like minerality and salinity as well as extraordinary notes of white currants, quince, green almonds, and toasted bread. This full-bodied, powerful Saint-Peray has a stacked mid-palate, flawless balance, and a finish that won’t quit. It’s one of the greatest Saint-Perays ever made. WA 95 (12/2019): One of the region's best white wines, Robert's 2018 Saint Peray Pur Blanc proves that altitude isn't a necessity—the century-old Marsanne vines are located in the village of Saint Peray, at the base of the appellation. It's reticent on the nose, with delicate scents evocative of crushed stone and rainwater, and then full-bodied but fresh on the palate, with lively flavors of pear and melon. It really separates from the pack on the finish, which is long, lively and cooling-refreshing, with an almost weightless character. VM 95 (5/2020): Light, shimmering yellow-gold. Highly perfumed Meyer lemon, pear nectar, iodine and tarragon qualities on the expansive, mineral-accented nose. Juicy and finely detailed on the palate, offering densely packed citrus, orchard fruit, honeysuckle and sweet butter flavors that show outstanding clarity and mineral cut. Delivers superb energy and power on the incisive, strikingly long finish, which features resonating floral and mineral notes. Raised in four year-old barriques; the vines in this plot are over 100 years old and may include some ancient, now non-permitted varieties. Josh Raynolds. |
