Chinon La Croix Boissee |

|
| |
| VM 96 (10/2021): The ripeness of the 2018 vintage gives an almost Syrah/Viognier character to the Chinon La Croix Boissee, which offers sweet black fruit and a creamy apricot note. Sumptuous yet never ever opulent, it's almost as if the wine's just done a yoga class. Plentiful tannins give the inside of your cheeks a chalky rub, while there's surprising freshness considering the ripeness, leading to a lengthy finish. This is a baby that will turn out to be a great adult. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 90 (1/2024): The 2020 La Croix Boisée is deep, savory and rich. It is a complex, layered wine with abundant, chalky, textured tannins. Flavors of olive tapenade, mint and chocolate meet a lamb roast in this deeply savory wine. There's a clear suggestion of Brett here in its flavors and a drying hint. Still, at this stage, its cellaring potential has to be questioned based on what it is currently showing, and this is reflected in its far lower score than in previous vintages. What a shame. (Drink between 2024-2030). Rebecca Gibbs. |

Chinon Le Clos Guillot |

WA 93+ (8/2021): The 2018 Chinon Le Clos Guillot is another impressive Cabernet Franc from Bernard Baudry. The bouquet reveals a perfectly ripe, refined and elegant yet also intense dark fruit aroma reminiscent of blackberries and cherries intermixed with leather and some distinctive flinty aromas. Quite open from this bottle but highly attractive. Silky, round and with remarkable finesse and tension, this is a full-bodied, concentrated and quite tannic Chinon with a still astringent finish but with enough sweetness and intensity for good aging potential. The aftertaste is long and compact and once more represents the concentrated character of the berries when harvested. An impressive wine whose future is even more great than its current status. VM 97 (10/2021): The 2018 Chinon Clos Guillot is a rich, focused powerhouse that's firm and direct, with dark blackberries and smoky notes. If we lived in an ideal world, this would be aged before releasing, as it's ripe yet tight and tannic, with the limestone soils providing grip along the sides of the mouth and a sense of direction. Lengthy, serious and complex, leaving the mouth full of dark berry fruit, spice and tea leaves. A baby. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 95-97 (10/2021): Just outside the village, Clos Guillot sits on a slope on clay over limestone. The 2019 Chinon is a serious barrel sample that melts in your mouth with its silken texture. No crushing, very little remontage and a year in used barrels all lend a very gentle touch. The tannins build gradually, coating the mouth with the finest of chalky textures. Excellent acidity keeps things fresh through the finish. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 91-93 (8/2022): Hailing from the limestone-clay slopes on the outskirts of Chinon town, home to other famous vineyards like Clos de l'Olive and Chêne Vert, Le Clos Guillot 2020 offers a cloud of Cabernet Franc fruit with fine refreshing acidity. Savory, silken and seductive, the wine is flooded with a stream of acidity. It is a calm wine with a mass of chalky tannins that coat the palate reassuringly. The finish is long, quiet and scented with dark raspberries and spice. There is a minor complaint of a touch of dryness at the very end of this wine. Rebecca Gibb. |

| WA 92 (8/2021): Baudry's 2018 Chinon Les Grézeaux is deep, pure, fresh and dark on the nose, with wild and spicy black cherry aromas and lovely concentration and mineral freshness. A classic! Silky, fresh and firm on the palate this is a full-bodied, concentrated and elegant Cabernet Franc with remarkable finesse and sustainable, terroir-driven freshness. The finish is intense and powerful and has this lovely silky, elegant fruit that makes it a top gastronomic wine without being chichi. |

| |
| VM 93 (10/2021): Sourced from a single vineyard located at the bottom of Chinon's slope on alluvial/clay soils, the 2019 Chinon Les Grézeaux is currently a bit shy in terms of revealing its fruit flavors. It’s also a hint reductive with its smoky bacon characters, but that's unimportant. What matters is the core of fruit and excellent focus. It's very relaxed and fluid with mouthwatering acidity. The tannins are more serious than the front and midpalate would have suggested and betray a little grittiness. Aged 15 months in cement, this could be opened in one to two years, but the concentration and structure offer drinking over a decade. (Drink between 2022-2030). Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 91 (8/2022): Off gravel soils at the bottom of the coteaux, the 2020 Les Grézeaux is a fine, fruity wine but it's much more than that. It's a delicate style that packs concentration within its light, silky bodied core. The tannins are fine and like licking a stone. It's good enough to eat. Blackcurrants and black raspberries linger on the medium length finish. (Drink between 2022-2033). Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 92 (5/2010): Light gold. High-pitched aromas of lemon, green apple and nectarine, with a floral honey quality that gains strength in the glass. Plump orchard and pit fruit nectar flavors are underscored by tangy citrus and mineral notes that buffer the sweetness and add verve. Plenty sweet but the underlying minerality contributes refreshing cut and extends the floral-dominated finish. I really like this wine's blend of sweetness and vivacity. Josh Raynolds. |

Anjou Blanc Clos des Bonnes Blanches Very Lightly Bin-Soiled Label |
$225 |

|
| |
| VM 92 (10/2023): The 2020 Bonnes Blanches is a dry and vibrant Chenin Blanc. It's the latest parcel to be harvested as it is north-facing and on schist, which degrades to clay so the soils are cooler, creating a long ripening process. Offering up masses of concentration, perhaps a result of the nearly 40-year-old vines and the low yields, as well as a powerful schist-derived finish. Structure and firmness are the keys to this wine in youth. There are delicate, tangy apple flavors, Sicilian lemons and white flowers marrying with subtle almond pastry-like characters following 13 months on lees in demi-muids. Balanced and settled wine, ready for its life ahead. (Drink between 2024-2034). Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 94 (10/2023): The 2019 Veau contrasts the 2019 Quarts despite both hailing from a nearby parcel. It seems, briefly, round and welcoming before quickly becoming salty and spicy. It's almost a bit scary. Yes, it's fierce - that's because it sits on the western side of the Quarts de Chaume hill, whose pure schist gives tension and ferocity. The 15% alcohol somewhat detracts from the overall balance, but there's no doubting the intensity. The opposite of a quaffing wine that would demand meat and tagine rather than delicate dishes. | VM 91 (7/2024): The 2020 Savennières Ruchères is ripe yet delicately scented with aromas of pineapple and almond meal. There's purity and focus to this mid-weight wine, but it remains round. | VM 92 (10/2020): Boulay’s 2018 Sancerre Clos de Beaujeu, tasted from magnum, is gracious, airy and understated. Everything about the 2018 speaks to finesse. | VM 93 (7/2023): Typically the last parcel to be picked by Cotat, the 2022 Cul de Beaujeu is a welcoming, open style. The merest hint of residual sugar (3g/l) is part of the roundness on the palate, but it's not sweet, merely smoothing out its core. There's a delicate fragrance of nectarine and florals with a touch of honey on the medium-length finish. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 94 (7/2023): Lay back and get comfortable with the 2022 Grand Côte. It is a delightfully balanced style with a tender finesse, filling the mouth with a sense of purity. While it has an almost lacy character, there's no absence of substance or structure. It's restrained aromatically with delicate violets, florals, nectarine flavors and a distinct stony character. It draws out on the long, chalky, almost sinew-like finish. A delight to drink now, but knowing Cotat, there's no hurry to pull the cork. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 94 (8/2021): Sourced from a south-facing single vineyard on flint and clay over chalk, the 2018 Pur Sang is all white flowers and spiced apple pastry. Seemingly effortless and silken, its Sauvignon edges rounded out in barrels. It offers excellent concentration on the mid-palate, a line of acidity acting like a thread and holding the core together like a ball. Delectably textured, with a hint of tannic sensation holding the mouth gently on a lengthy conclusion that's drawn-out and precise. A complex, multifaceted wine. Rebecca Gibb. |

Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi Sec |
$39 |
1 |
|
| |
WA 95 (5/2019): The 2017 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec displays an intense golden-yellow color and a ripe, at the moment slightly diffuse bouquet of very ripe fruits, caramel, butterscotch and low sulfur, with very fine earthy notes in the background. Lush and very elegant on the palate, this is a powerful, intense and exuberant Chenin with firm, initially slightly astringent tannins and persistently juicy fruit. The wine is not as seamless at the beginning as the finest 2017s, but it gets much more balanced and juicy-piquant after aeration. At the end of the day, this is a pretty sexy Vouvray with Burgundian finesse. Tasted on March 2019. JD 95 (3/2019): The 2017 Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec is thrilling stuff, offering a vivid gold color as well as a kaleidoscope of honeyed citrus, white flowers, orange blossom, dried herbs, and chalky mineral-like aromas and flavors. It’s ripe and textured on the palate, with terrific concentration, yet has beautiful acidity, a seamless, perfectly balanced mouthfeel, and a great, great finish. The sweetness is brilliantly managed, and this beauty is going to keep for decades. |

Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec |
$79 |
9 |
|
| |
| WA 94+ (11/2015): The 2014 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec is brighter colored than the Haut-Lieu and shows a white-golden color. The nose indicates a very delicate, fresh and mineral wine of great finesse and beautifully clear white fruit flavors, which changes somewhere between young Chablis and Riesling from a limestone terroir. This is just gorgeous (or will be one day) and provided with some smoky flavors of Speck or air-dried hamm (jamón serrano), along with lemon juice, chalk, carambola and some floral flavors. Like the 2014 Haut-Lieu Sec, the Clos du Bourg is also quite round and gentle on the first palate; it shows a great finesse, refined fruit elegance and enervating raciness that reminds me of the finest dry (German or Southern Palatinate) Rieslings, although the power and length seems even stronger towards the finish. I have rarely tasted a young Chenin that combines power, finesse, elegance and persistency in such a perfectly balanced way. This is surely a wine to buy, drink and store. The only error possible here is to buy too little of it. |

| WA 96 (8/2010): At 11% alcohol and 150 grams of residual sugar, the Huet 2009 Vouvray Cuvee Constance – fourth in the past decade, incidentally – offers a striking nose of honey, white raisin, and concentrated herbal and floral essences. Salted caramel, hazelnut cream, marzipan, white raisin, liquid floral perfume, and honey are all leavened with fresh lime, white peach, and grapefruit. Like a refined cocktail of essence-of-Chenin mingled with fresh fruit juices with dashes of salt and chalk, this finishes with ravishing and invigorating persistence and should be worth following for 3 or more decades. |

| WA 94+ (11/2015): The 2014 Vouvray Le Mont Demi-Sec shows an intense yellow color with a golden shimmer. The bouquet is very diverse to the other 2014s of the domaine and shows more yeasty flavor along with delicate, precise ripe fruit aromas that are more open and enriched with fennel aromas at this stadium. On the palate, this is a lovely, fresh and juicy, persistently mineral Chenin with an aromatic intensity and persistency, also with great finesse and lingering salinity. Maybe some barrels underwent the malolactic fermentation, which makes this Le Mont more accessible than usual at this early moment. The finish is very pure and salty with lovely fruity, but in a very refined way. This is a gorgeous, tension-filled Le Mont with 20 grams per liter of residual sugar. |

JD 96 (3/2019): The 2017 Le Mont Moelleux shows the classic progression from the vibrancy of the Sec to the more layered, slightly honeyed Demi-Sec to this richer, sweeter, yet no less impressive Moelleux release. Brilliant notes of quince, honeyed tangerines, apple peel, and orange liqueur all emerge from this full-bodied, layered Vouvray that has a stacked, dense, concentrated mid-palate, high yet integrated acidity, impeccable balance, and a great finish. I couldn’t pick a favorite between this and the Demi-Sec, and both are brilliant wines. Smart readers will buy a handful of bottles of each (a six pack of each is what I intend to do) for drinking over the coming 2-3 decades. WA 94 (5/2019): The golden-apricot colored 2017 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is perfectly ripe and elegant on the intense but refined nose, with stone fruit and very fine raisin aromas intertwined with yeasty notes. On the palate, this is a generous, highly elegant, finessed and juicy Vouvray with fine tannin grip, salty-piquant acidity and good concentration of dried and stewed stone fruits. The wine is compact and tight but vital and full of energy and aging potential. Very tight, firm and salty, with good tension and expression but far too young to be enjoyed within the next five years. Tasted in March 2019. |

| VM 94 (10/2023): The 2022 Le Mont Moelleux is a medium-sweet, tender style that is just so welcoming and appealing. It is the quiet type that doesn't show off. It offers breadth without weight, which I always like about the Huet wines - they're like clouds of Chenin floating over your palate. A fine floral and fruity fragrance reminiscent of lilac, pear and pineapple lingers off the tranquil finish. While the acidity in 2022 is a little gentle, it still has enough tension to sweep up the wine and hold it all together. A little more length and line would elevate it further. (51g/L RS, in case you're interested). Rebecca Gibb. |

Vouvray Le Mont Sec |

| |
| WA 96 (11/2015): Huet's 2014 Vouvray Le Mont Sec is the other wine that wine lovers should buy and store, especially those with a heart for crystalline and extremely mineral wines. If Clos du Bourg is like something between Chablis and Riesling, Le Mont is comparable with Sancerre from Silex soils, but again also dry Riesling from the bedrock parts of Lower Austria (along the Danube river). Its aroma on the nose intertwines white and green fruits like apples and lemons with coolish flint stone, spicy and floral aromas in a subtly intense, very intriguing and complex way. There is a great purity and linearity on the complex and elegant, intense and persistent palate, but also some ripe fruit flavors that remind not just of crystalline Riesling but also aromatic wines from grape varieties such as Muscat or Sauvignon Blanc. This is a powerful and intense but much more finesse-full, purely mineral and highly elegant wine with a beautiful touch of sweetness (say roundness) and lovely citrus flavors. This is the most elegant and delicate Chenin of Huet's dry trio and its aromatic length, energy, salinity and spell-binding finesse is truly unrivaled. This is simply great Chenin Blanc and Huet's hallmark wine of the vintage. Chapeau! |

| VM 95 (8/2021): The 2019 Sancerre Le Grand Chemarin is a tender and wonderfully elegant style that shows excellent concentration. It remains understated, with fine grip on the finish. The wine has a mouth-coating texture, no doubt due to the limestone soils but also the Pinards’ careful handling. This caresses the mouth with its restrained pear and ripe, apple fruit. It's wonderfully welcoming at the beginning, but the finish is structured. Wherever the wine is in your mouth, it always exudes a sense of balance. (Drink between 2023-2035). Rebecca Gibb. |

WA 94 (10/2021): The 2015 Saumur Champigny is deep, refined and elegant on the clear and fresh nose that displays very fine dark berry and iodine as well as chalky and herbal aromas. Round, intense and juicy on the palate, with fine tannins and acidity, this is a silky, deep and fleshy, very fine and elegant yet also lush and balanced Cabernet with fine tannins and a long and intense, aromatic finish. 12.5% alcohol. Natural cork. VM 93 (7/2020): This was Charly Foucault’s last vintage. Fruity and floral on the nose with an edge of smoke. Big boned and intense, but with a smoothness to this wine, with lots of raspberry, cranberry, and cherry, silky tannins and a long cool finish. Jason Wilson. |

| VM 94 (8/2022): Released in November 2021, after its customary five year stay in the cellar, the 2016 Le Clos is a wine that makes you say 'God this is good' as soon as you put a drop in your mouth before you sink into it. While it is already starting to open up and could be approached by the impatient wine lover, this has the tannins that will leave you licking your lips and abundant acidity making your mouth water. In combination with the fine concentration of fruit and long length, there's no hurry to open. On the drawn out finish, cherry, tea leaf and mushroom flavors linger on and on. Rebecca Gibb. |
