| VM 92 (5/2010): Light gold. High-pitched aromas of lemon, green apple and nectarine, with a floral honey quality that gains strength in the glass. Plump orchard and pit fruit nectar flavors are underscored by tangy citrus and mineral notes that buffer the sweetness and add verve. Plenty sweet but the underlying minerality contributes refreshing cut and extends the floral-dominated finish. I really like this wine's blend of sweetness and vivacity. Josh Raynolds. |

| |
| VM 91 (7/2024): The 2019 Anjou Blanc Bonnes Blanches is a dry, perfumed Chenin Blanc with firm line and length. Its perfumed bouquet offers florals, nectarine and exotic pineapple scents, with notes of pastry evident from long élevage in large barrels. While round and tender, there's a tension that runs through this wine like a sharp knife, which is likely a result of its north-facing position on schist. Long and scented. (Drink between 2024-2030). | VM 92 (10/2023): The 2020 Bonnes Blanches is a dry and vibrant Chenin Blanc. It's the latest parcel to be harvested as it is north-facing and on schist, which degrades to clay so the soils are cooler, creating a long ripening process. Offering up masses of concentration, perhaps a result of the nearly 40-year-old vines and the low yields, as well as a powerful schist-derived finish. Structure and firmness are the keys to this wine in youth. There are delicate, tangy apple flavors, Sicilian lemons and white flowers marrying with subtle almond pastry-like characters following 13 months on lees in demi-muids. Balanced and settled wine, ready for its life ahead. (Drink between 2024-2034). Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 92 (10/2023): The 2020 Rouères is a sweet wine but not unctuous; it has a sense of freshness and a bitter twist, providing a clean, long finish despite its 150-odd g/L of residual sugar. It is almost tart and offers an herbal, aperitif-like character, combining celery, marmalade, toffee and smoke notes. It's already approachable, but its structural tension and sweetness point to longevity if you wait. (10% alcohol). Quite frankly, it's a triumph this was even made after rains wiped Les Quarts parcel out. It might not be typical Quarts de Chaume - neither as rich nor luscious - hence why they've decided to label it as a Coteaux du Layon even though they could legally have still called it Quarts de Chaume, displaying the integrity of this producer. | VM 94 (8/2021): Sourced from a south-facing single vineyard on flint and clay over chalk, the 2018 Pur Sang is all white flowers and spiced apple pastry. Seemingly effortless and silken, its Sauvignon edges rounded out in barrels. It offers excellent concentration on the mid-palate, a line of acidity acting like a thread and holding the core together like a ball. Delectably textured, with a hint of tannic sensation holding the mouth gently on a lengthy conclusion that's drawn-out and precise. A complex, multifaceted wine. Rebecca Gibb. |

| WA 92+ (10/2016): The 2015 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux displays open and elegant ripe fruit (pineapples, oranges) with some dusty flavors of crushed rocks. Powerful but full of finesse and elegance, this is a piquant and stimulating sweet wine with grip and tension. However, I find it rather less complex than the Sec and the Demi-Sec. |

WA 96+ (11/2015): From another early, low-acid vintage, the golden shining, botrytis-free 2003 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux Première Trie shows a beautifully intense, extraordinary clear, refined and elegant bouquet of ripe fruits intertwined with mineral flavors –– fascinating! Sweet, intense and delicate on the palate, this highly elegant and lovely concentrated Chenin is of great purity, balance and finesse. Its length is impressive, its generous flow is extremely sensual and its overall intensity and accessible generosity are absolutely gorgeous. This 2003 is great today, but will probably even more fascinating in 50+ years. The balance and drinkability is superb. Highly recommended. VM 93 (9/2022): This is the first year that the Hwang family owned Huet. The 2003 Le Haut Lieu Moelleux Premiere Trie is rich and full, round and succulent with toasty and honeyed aromas, tangy citrus, almond and Indian spice. Concentrated, dense but never heavy. Light and gentle. Since this wine is from the warm 2003 vintage, the acidity is lower and pH higher, so it doesn't have the freshness of other vintages. Drinking well now. (Drink between 2022-2030). WA 95 (7/2020): The deep brown clay soils of the Haut-Lieu plateau provide the typical fruitiness and freshness wonderfully in Huet's 2019 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec. Ripe pear, tangerine and orange fruits with notes of lemon grass and green pimientos intertwined with very fine chalky and later tobacco notes give a remarkably fine, elegant and harmonious, subtly complex and simply gorgeous bouquet with floral (lime blossom!) and yeasty aromas that are immediately attractive. Delicate and linear on the palate, this is a pure, fresh, bone-dry, lean and textured, highly refined and perfectly interwoven Chenin with persistent purity, finesse, salty-mineral tension and very fine tannins. Highly finessed and so pure and vivacious! This is a chalky picture-book Haut-Lieu that can age for many years, even though it is already dangerously seductive! There was no dry Le Haut-Lieu produced in 2018, but the 2019 is possibly the finest, most delicate and elegant I've had in recent years, at least at this early stage. A terrific and buoyant Vouvray that any Chenin lover should try—or, better yet, cellar! VM 92 (10/2020): The 2019 Sec Le Haut-Lieu is classy, polished and simply impeccable. Soft, silky contours wrap around a core of peach and lemon confit fruit. The first impression is all about texture. White flowers, pear and white pepper are some of the nuances that emerge over time, adding complexity, while clean, minerally notes grace the exquisite finish. (Drink between 2020-2034). | VM 94 (10/2023): The 2022 Le Mont Moelleux is a medium-sweet, tender style that is just so welcoming and appealing. It is the quiet type that doesn't show off. It offers breadth without weight, which I always like about the Huet wines - they're like clouds of Chenin floating over your palate. A fine floral and fruity fragrance reminiscent of lilac, pear and pineapple lingers off the tranquil finish. While the acidity in 2022 is a little gentle, it still has enough tension to sweep up the wine and hold it all together. A little more length and line would elevate it further. (51g/L RS, in case you're interested). Rebecca Gibb. |

$125 |
2 |
|
| |
| WA 97+ (11/2015): The 2003 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Première Trie shows a brillant dark golden color with apricot-yellow reflections. Very clear, intense and elegant on the nose, where coffee, toast, brioche, nougat and flinty flavors intertwine with super ripe apricot, licorice and lemon zest aromas, this is a very sweet, extraordinary rich, highly concentrated but also elegant and piquant moelleux with a stunning purity and freshness in the mouthwatering, salty finish. This is a very sweet but remarkably elegant and finesse-full Le Mont whose purity and mineral finish will be mind-blowing in some decades. The 2003 is still too young to be drunk this or during the next decade (if you are lucky to own older Huets, otherwise you won't be hurt by drinking a first better today). Compared to Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont is more focused and defined, less sensual than intellectual maybe. In its elegance, finesse and balance, this 2003 reminds me of the 1945 Le Haut Lieu. But to reach the almost perfect score of the latter, the 2003 has still a long way to age. |

WA 94+ (7/2020): Again, Huet's 2019 Vouvray Le Mont Sec reflects the unique, south-facing nine-hectare vineyard with its pebbly flint (silex) and green clay soils wonderfully! Pure, fresh and flinty on the deep, intense yet also floral and herbal nose that represents a concentrated and firm white stone fruit aroma with lemon and grapefruit notes as well as fennel, anise and cumin hints. The bouquet gets darker and stonier with a lot of aeration (during days, to be honest). The leitmotif, though, remains the characteristic mix of aromatic fruit aromas with flint stone and volcanic basalt tones that, at this early stage and poured straight from the bottle, remind me of the Rieslings from Forst, Pfalz (Germany). In any case, this is like perfume on rocky stones! On the palate, Le Mont Sec is a rich, lush and round, very concentrated yet silky textured, elegant, vital and tightly structured 2019 with a powerful, intense and long finish with lingering salinity intertwined with tight, perhaps slightly dry tannins. I recommend cellaring this round yet tight and concentrated Chenin for a decade and then drinking it slowly over many years and with, hopefully, even better integrated tannins. VM 94 (10/2020): The 2019 Sec Le Mont is precise and beautifully cut. A wine of laser-like focus, Le Mont dazzles with its purity. Citrus peel and floral accents are nicely lifted, but it is the wine's energy that impresses most. Le Mont is a subtle wine that speaks softly, but what it has to say is priceless. (Drink between 2020-2034). Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 96 (8/2025): All in all, the 2020 La Rougerie is seamless and expansive with a high level of elegance. Sweet, nutty oak makes the first impression before pure cassis and black cherry notes shine through. This possesses a whole lot of intrigue in its infancy but has a long way to go before it fully reveals itself. That said, the 2020 has class, sophistication, excellent handling and a tram-like line of acidity and chalkiness that allows it to persist. I'd love to see this up against some St-Émilions. Buy it and embarrass your nerdy friend in a blind tasting. (Drink between 2027-2042). Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 94 (7/2020): Serious complexity in this Chenin Blanc. Fresh golden apple at first, then pear, apricot jam and white pepper that carries throughout nicely. Gorgeous herbal notes on the midpalate, gliding to a long, salty, crushed stone finish. Jason Wilson. |

WA 94 (10/2021): The 2015 Saumur Champigny is deep, refined and elegant on the clear and fresh nose that displays very fine dark berry and iodine as well as chalky and herbal aromas. Round, intense and juicy on the palate, with fine tannins and acidity, this is a silky, deep and fleshy, very fine and elegant yet also lush and balanced Cabernet with fine tannins and a long and intense, aromatic finish. 12.5% alcohol. Natural cork. VM 93 (7/2020): This was Charly Foucault’s last vintage. Fruity and floral on the nose with an edge of smoke. Big boned and intense, but with a smoothness to this wine, with lots of raspberry, cranberry, and cherry, silky tannins and a long cool finish. Jason Wilson. |

| VM 90 (7/2023): The 2021 Chambrates is an intriguing, characterfully flavored wine. A distinctive minty character meets fennel and pear and then a blackcurrant hint. While there's no doubting the acidity in this wine, it's balanced and offers a gentleness on the palate, providing a touch of weight and roundness to this light-bodied style. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 91 (4/2007): Bright straw. Assertive lime and lemon zest aromas, with complicating tarragon, mint and grass nuances. Zesty, light and focused, with pure, vibrant citrus and green apple flavors given depth by suggestions of licorice and blond tobacco. Lovely stuff, with a decidedly elegant character and a long, concentrated finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see this improve over the coming decade. Josh Raynolds. |

| WA 92-93 (6/2012): Bittersweet and musky floral perfume, mint, and eucalyptus surge from the glass of 2011 Sancerre Clos la Neore – as tasted from tank – and combine with gooseberry preserves, fresh apple, and honeydew melon on a lush, faintly oily, subtly sultry, yet persistently luscious palate. A hint of salted chicken and mushroom stock add a mysterious sense of (Kimmeridgian) place, while the hint of gooseberry and apple skin lends welcome invigoration to a long, saliva-liberating, and hauntingly musky, floral finish. This ought to be one of those rare 2011 Sancerres that will reward attention for more than a decade. (It’s intriguing, incidentally, how distinctive from one another are the two lots whose impromptu blend in my glass is the subject of the above tasting note, even though they began as the same juice.) |

| VM 94 (6/2025): The 2012 Sancerre Clos La Néore was poured from magnum. It has an intriguing nose that I really love, scents of dried honey and beeswax, a touch of fish scales, a slight oatmeal tincture signalling its maturity. The palate seems mature but certainly not over the hill: bitter orange and mandarin, Vervain tea and sour lemon, cohering beautifully with every passing minute. This has so much personality—it will be fascinating to see how it matures in bottle, though I would not class it as a “crowd-pleaser.” This is a Sancerre that refuses to kowtow to tastes, and for that, I admire it rather than relish it. (Drink between 2025-2042). Neal Martin. |
