WA 90+ (8/2021): The 2015 Chinon La Croix Boissée is intense and floral on the nose, showing ripe, intense and elegant fruit as well as some untamed or even animal flavors that you either accept or don’t. Silky, smooth and elegant on the palate, this is a generous, well-concentrated and structured Cabernet Franc with good freshness, tightly woven and crunchy tannins and a close-meshed limestone structure. The wine has both a certain rustic character as well as a good freshness and finesse. I’d cellar it for at least 10 or 15 years.

VM 96 (10/2021): The ripeness of the 2018 vintage gives an almost Syrah/Viognier character to the Chinon La Croix Boissee, which offers sweet black fruit and a creamy apricot note. Sumptuous yet never ever opulent, it's almost as if the wine's just done a yoga class. Plentiful tannins give the inside of your cheeks a chalky rub, while there's surprising freshness considering the ripeness, leading to a lengthy finish. This is a baby that will turn out to be a great adult. Rebecca Gibb.

WA 89+ (8/2021): The 2015 Chinon Le Clos Guillot is terribly reductive at the moment and shows lots of volatile and animalic (Brettanomyces) scents on the nose, which also reveals dark, ripe fruit aromas and a nice flintiness. The 2015 is pure and fresh on the palate, silky textured and provided with fine and refreshing if not crisp tannins. However, the 2015 is a bit austere right now and quite astringent and should be allowed to breathe a lot!

VM 92 (7/2020): Same aging and vinification as the 2017, but this is even fruiter, with more oak influence. More floral than savory, and purple in all ways: purple color, purple flowers, purple fruit. In the mouth, there’s black cherry and plum and big, wild acidity, almost white-wine-like acidity, and a cool, fresh finish. Should be interesting to see how this has developed in a year or two. (Drink between 2021-2046). Jason Wilson.

VM 95-97 (10/2021): Just outside the village, Clos Guillot sits on a slope on clay over limestone. The 2019 Chinon is a serious barrel sample that melts in your mouth with its silken texture. No crushing, very little remontage and a year in used barrels all lend a very gentle touch. The tannins build gradually, coating the mouth with the finest of chalky textures. Excellent acidity keeps things fresh through the finish. Rebecca Gibb.

VM 91-93 (8/2022): Hailing from the limestone-clay slopes on the outskirts of Chinon town, home to other famous vineyards like Clos de l'Olive and Chêne Vert, Le Clos Guillot 2020 offers a cloud of Cabernet Franc fruit with fine refreshing acidity. Savory, silken and seductive, the wine is flooded with a stream of acidity. It is a calm wine with a mass of chalky tannins that coat the palate reassuringly. The finish is long, quiet and scented with dark raspberries and spice. There is a minor complaint of a touch of dryness at the very end of this wine. Rebecca Gibb.

Chinon Les Grezeaux |

VM 93 (10/2021): Sourced from a single vineyard located at the bottom of Chinon's slope on alluvial/clay soils, the 2019 Chinon Les Grézeaux is currently a bit shy in terms of revealing its fruit flavors. It’s also a hint reductive with its smoky bacon characters, but that's unimportant. What matters is the core of fruit and excellent focus. It's very relaxed and fluid with mouthwatering acidity. The tannins are more serious than the front and midpalate would have suggested and betray a little grittiness. Aged 15 months in cement, this could be opened in one to two years, but the concentration and structure offer drinking over a decade. (Drink between 2022-2030). Rebecca Gibb.
