| VM 91-93 (8/2022): Hailing from the limestone-clay slopes on the outskirts of Chinon town, home to other famous vineyards like Clos de l'Olive and Chêne Vert, Le Clos Guillot 2020 offers a cloud of Cabernet Franc fruit with fine refreshing acidity. Savory, silken and seductive, the wine is flooded with a stream of acidity. It is a calm wine with a mass of chalky tannins that coat the palate reassuringly. The finish is long, quiet and scented with dark raspberries and spice. There is a minor complaint of a touch of dryness at the very end of this wine. Rebecca Gibb. |

| VM 92 (10/2023): The 2020 Bonnes Blanches is a dry and vibrant Chenin Blanc. It's the latest parcel to be harvested as it is north-facing and on schist, which degrades to clay so the soils are cooler, creating a long ripening process. Offering up masses of concentration, perhaps a result of the nearly 40-year-old vines and the low yields, as well as a powerful schist-derived finish. Structure and firmness are the keys to this wine in youth. There are delicate, tangy apple flavors, Sicilian lemons and white flowers marrying with subtle almond pastry-like characters following 13 months on lees in demi-muids. It is almost tart and offers an herbal, aperitif-like character, combining celery, marmalade, toffee and smoke notes. It's already approachable, but its structural tension and sweetness point to longevity if you wait. (10% alcohol). Quite frankly, it's a triumph this was even made after rains wiped Les Quarts parcel out. It might not be typical Quarts de Chaume - neither as rich nor luscious - hence why they've decided to label it as a Coteaux du Layon even though they could legally have still called it Quarts de Chaume, displaying the integrity of this producer. Comes from four small, closely grouped parcels totalling 1.85ha that are just to the northwest of the village of Savennières on the plateau. Planted in 1988, the vines are on sandy loam soils over schist. Harvest was on 30 September with a yield of just 7hl/ha due to frost damage. Vinified and aged for 14 months in barriques (228 litre) with complete malolactic fermentation and bottled in November 2022. (Drink between 2024-2045) |

| VM 96 (8/2025): All in all, the 2020 La Rougerie is seamless and expansive with a high level of elegance. Sweet, nutty oak makes the first impression before pure cassis and black cherry notes shine through. This possesses a whole lot of intrigue in its infancy but has a long way to go before it fully reveals itself. That said, the 2020 has class, sophistication, excellent handling and a tram-like line of acidity and chalkiness that allows it to persist. I'd love to see this up against some St-Émilions. | VM 88 (7/2024): An acid-lovers' wine, the 2022 Saumur Blanc Les Chapaudaises is taut, chiseled and unyielding. There's real essence, power and tension within its textured, structured core. Taut and restrained, it is far from open and generous, but it evokes a purity and transparency that's rare.
