| WA 94 (12/2011): Very deep purple-black colored, the 2009 Piggott Range Syrah is a little restrained on the nose at this stage, revealing aromas of blueberry preserves, blackberry tart and creme de cassis with suggestions of mocha and licorice. The palate is concentrated and tightly knit with a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and lively acid, finishing long and peppery. Still very youthful, consider drinking this one 2014 to 2022+. |

WA 93 (8/2011): Coming from a single vineyard planted in 1971 and 1976, the 2009 Diana Madeline is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 2% Malbec. It was aged for around 13 months in French barriques, 55% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it offers expressive aromas of ripe cassis, freshly crushed blackberries and blueberries over cloves, damp loam, hung meat, grated mace, dried Mediterranean herbs and a dusting of dark chocolate powder. Medium bodied and wonderfully graceful on the palate, it has crisp acid, firm finely grained tannins and a long earthy finish. It really needs another year or two in bottle to open-out, drinking best 2013 to 2023+.
VM 93 (7/2011): Dark violet. Fresh cherry and raspberry aromas are complemented by pipe tobacco and dried rose. Silky and sweet in the mouth, with bright red fruit flavors complemented by deeper bitter chocolate and herbal nuances. Firmly structured but in no way hard, finishing with excellent clarity and sappy persistence. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 97+ (2/2014): Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the nose on the 2009 Hill of Grace is a little closed, though it reveals notes of warm black plums, blackberry coulis and cloves with subtle nuances of dried Provence herbs, forest floor and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, it possesses layers of medium to full-bodied black fruit and earth-laced flesh elegantly structured by a medium to firm level of finely grained tannins, nicely balanced acid and a long finish. Drink it now to 2026+.
JS 97 (5/2017): One of the most triumphant top tier South Australian reds from the 2009 vintage, this has a layered and luxurious feel to it — a trademark array of spice and fruit characters with a lot of sage, fresh blackberry and toasty oak, some more meaty fermentation-derived notes and a graphite edge, smoky too. The palate is supple and even. Tannins have a polished sheen to them, layered and supple, great fleshy volume and drive. It is deeply ripe and the tannin structure is both subtle and profound. It resonates long, a very deep wine that's enduring, supple and fleshy with a sapid, purring finish.
VM 96 (7/2014): Inky ruby. Explosive spice- and smoke-accented black and blue fruits and incense on the intensely perfumed nose. Palate-coating, very primary blackcurrant, floral pastille and fruitcake flavors reach every corner of the palate, with juicy acidity providing lift and verve. Smoothly combines power and vivacity, and finishes with Outstanding clarity and thrust, the supple tannins building slowly. I suspect that this remarkable, deeply concentrated shiraz will still be alive and kicking a couple decades from now. Josh Raynolds.viding lift and verve. WA 94+ (12/2011): Composed of 80% Shiraz and 20% Petite Sirah, the 2009 Proprietary Red reveals a very deep purple-black color and aromas of black cherry compote, warm blackberries and mulberries over hints of dark chocolate, yeast extract, Indian spices and black olives. Full bodied with a wonderful concentration of muscular black fruit and savory flavors, it has a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and crisp acid, finishing with a great persistence of pure blackberry flavors with some earthiness coming through.
VM 92 (7/2012): Dark purple. On the nose, dark berry preserves, incense, violet and cola, with a spicy overtone. Rich but lively on the palate, offering intense blueberry and mulberry flavors given lift by zesty acidity. Shows impressive power on the finish, trailing notes of candied flower and licorice. This wine is made by Ben Glaetzer from fruit grown in importer Ben Hammerschlag's vineyard. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 97 (2/2014): The 2009 Grange Shiraz is a comprised of 84% Barossa, 8% McLaren, and a little Clare Valley and a little Magill fruit with a small 2% of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. At this youthful stage, this deep garnet-purple colored wine puts forward a vivid expression of blackberry preserve aromas amid underlying cassis, black cherry, spice box, char-grilled meat and chocolate box notes. Surprisingly medium to full-bodied (it smells much fuller!) with taut flavors that are very closed in the mouth, it has firm, chewy tannins to structure through the long and earthy finish. 406 cases imported to the US. Drink it 2018 to 2035+.
JS 95 (3/2014): A tiny 2% Cabernet component in 2009, this is sourced from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Magill Estate and has spent 18 months in exclusively new American oak hogsheads. The depth and complexity on offer is straight up impressive, blue and black fruit aromas unwind, meaty at times, some dark green herbal notes and a cedary layer of oak lurking below. The palate has a core of essence-like flavour with plenty of oak-derived spice framed around blackberry, blood plum and cola. Tannins are smooth and even, flavours are gently glazed around the dark fruit spectrum, some blue fruits too. This is a wistful Grange that, as always, faithfully reflects the vintage.
VM 94 (7/2014): 98% shiraz and 2% cabernet sauvignon): Inky ruby. Intense spice- and mineral-accented aromas of cherry pit, blackberry and plum, with smoke and floral qualities adding complexity. Taut and linear on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering zesty dark fruit and violet pastille flavors and hints of licorice and vanilla. Finishes smoky, spicy and very long, with youthfully firm, building tannins adding grip. In a relatively taut, wound-up style for this wine; by all means give it some age. |

| WA 94 (5/2011): Produced from 100% Shiraz, the 2009 Springflat casts a deep garnet-purple color, giving fragrant aromas of Indian spices, licorice, mulberries, dark chocolate and blackberry tart. Seductively rich and ripe, it has medium-firm velvety tannins, high acidity and a long berry-laced finish. Approachable now, it should gain more depth with another 2 years+ in bottle, drinking best 2014 to 2024+. |
