| WA 95 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard comes across as rich, round and layered. Dried apricots, peaches, flowers and tangerine are some of the notes that flow from this sumptuous, well-spoken Chardonnay. The wine turns more and more delicate with time in the glass. I loved it. This is a great showing from Mark Aubert. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. |

Lauren Sonoma Coast Chardonnay |

WA 95 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard is one of the more understated wines in this lineup. It also shows a bit more freshness and brightness than the other 2009s. Tangerine, mint, light floral honey and spices are all beautifully layered into the detailed, nuanced finish. The French oak is better balanced here than in the Reuling, which allows the fruit to show the fullest breadth of its personality. Here, too, the finish seems to expand in every direction. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. WS 95 (12/2011): Ultrarich and deeply concentrated, this is intense, persistent and graceful, with layers of ripe fig, honeydew melon, anise, sage and melted black licorice. Gets more complex and interesting with every sip. Best from 2012 through 2020. 959 cases made. |

WS 95 (12/2011): Firm, tight and concentrated, with a beam of ripe pear, anise, honeydew melon, brioche and nutmeg flavors. Firms nicely, unfolding with layers of complexity. Drink now through 2018. 411 cases made. WA 94 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Reuling Vineyard is the biggest and richest of these 2009 Chardonnays. Pastry crust, spices, tangerine and dried apricot are all woven together beautifully in this large-scaled, expressive Chardonnay. Aubert used 100% new barrels here, which comes through ever so slightly in the texture of the fruit. An exuberant, explosive finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. |

WS 96 (12/2011): A rich yet subtle style that serves up bold fig, honeydew, apricot and savory flavors that are full-bodied and tapered, at points both silky and minerally, ending with a fabulous burst of fruit. Drink now through 2018. 1,553 cases made. WA 95 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard is precise and articulate, all nuance and detail. Here the aromas and flavors are all beautifully sculpted from start to finish. The wine blossoms with time in the glass, showing quite a bit of power while maintaining significant freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. |

WS 95 (12/2011): Deliciously rich and layered, showing bold fig, honeydew melon and apricot flavors, with more subtle hints of citrus, mineral, crème brûlee and cedar. Deftly balanced, ripe and expressive, without weight. Drink now through 2018. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 378 cases made. WA 94 (2/2012): The 2009 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard emerges from the glass with rich apricots, pears, flowers, and tangerine, all of which come together in a dramatic, sweeping expression of Chardonnay. In 2009 the UV-SL has a rich, baritone register that is compelling. The aromas and flavors build effortlessly to the textured, creamy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2019. |

Alpine Vyd. Chardonnay |

VM 94 (6/2011): Vivid yellow. Musky aromas of chamomile, pear skin, anise and iodine, with suave floral and gingerbread notes emerging with aeration. Juicy and broad on entry, then a bit tighter in the middle, offering densely packed orchard fruit flavors and notes of smoke and honeysuckle. More powerful than the Horseshoe but no less animated. This complex and tactile chardonnay boasts an intriguing interplay of ripe fruit and energetic spices. Finishes on a gently smoky note, with excellent persistence. WA 93 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard is the most vibrant, mineral-laced of these 2009 Chardonnays. Clean, mineral notes frame the fruit all the way through to the vibrant, pointed finish. This is a terrific effort from Rhys. Bright citrus and crushed rocks frame the finish. The 2007, which I tasted alongside it, has aged gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. |

VM 94 (6/2011): Bright yellow. Lively, assertive aromas of orange zest, jasmine, mint, iodine and smoky minerals. Pure and incisive, with energetic, mineral-accented citrus and green apple flavors that gain weight with air. Finishes with excellent clarity and spicy cut, strongly echoing the orange and iodine notes. I suspect this vivacious wine will put on weight with a few more years of bottle age. Stephen Tanzer. WA 92 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard emerges from the glass with layers of sweet fruit supported by the clean vibrancy that is the hallmark of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is an attractive, layered wine made in fairly forward, fruit-driven style. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. WS 90 (4/2013): A graceful, subtle and juicy style, with aromas of white flowers, ripe peach, honeysuckle and melon. Medium-weight, delicate and persistent. Drink now through 2019. |

WA 92 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Ode to Sunshine, from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, wraps around the palate with layers of tropical fruit. Despite its textural richness and volume, the wine shows plenty of acidity and fabulous overall balance. This racy, sleek wine from Sanguis is best enjoyed while the fruit is vibrant. Ode to Sunshine spent 22 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. VM 91 (10/2011): (100% chardonnay from the Bien Nacido vineyard): Hazy gold. Wild, complex bouquet evokes pear skin, nectarine, macadamia nut and marzipan, with an oak spice note that gains strength with air. Ripe and broad but lively, with deep orchard and pit fruit flavors showing very good clarity and spiciness. Finishes long and sappy, with very good cut. |
