| WA 95 (1/2000): The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Wedding Vineyard (produced from one-fourth ton of fruit per acre) continues to remind me of a hypothetical La Mission-Haut-Brion made from California's ripe fruit. The roasted tobacco, cedar, scorched earth and creosote nuances are present, in addition to copious blackberry, blueberry, and cassis flavors. This is a terrific, full-flavored, highly-extracted wine with plenty of tannin. However, the tannin is sweet and well-integrated, as is the wine's lusty alcohol (14.1%). This is a profound example of Cabernet Sauvignon that should be accessible in 4-5 years, and last for 25-30. |

| WA 86 (6/2000): Dark ruby/purple-colored, with scents of olives, smoke, black cherries, and charred wood, this medium to full-bodied Cabernet exhibits a smoky, earthiness to its fruit, medium to full body, good glycerin, moderate tannin, and good to excellent concentration. There is some hardness/astringency in the finish, which kept my score low. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2010. |

| WA 96 (1/2000): The powerhouse, opaque purple/blue-colored 1996 Les Pavots is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. The nose offers up blackberry, licorice, cassis, and pain grille aromas. The superb extract, well-defined personality, and smoky, licorice, Asian spice, and blackberry flavors provide a thrilling tasting experience. It was bottled with neither fining nor filtration. There are approximately 2,800 cases of this fabulous effort. Anticipated maturity: now-2025. |

WA 93 (1/2000): A behemoth Cabernet Sauvignon is the stern, tannic, concentrated 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (13.5% alcohol). Full-bodied, but closed, with gorgeously pure black fruits, powerful, loamy, earthy scents along with fruit and extract, this wine also needs 5-6 years of cellaring, and should easily last through the first 2-3 decades of the next century. VM 90 (6/1999): Good ruby-red. Spicy, roasted aromas of cassis, black plum, toasty oak and pepper. Lush, jammy and a bit undifferentiated; showing its baby fat today. Seems distinctly less lively than the '95, but the tannins are quite fine for the vintage and there excellent finishing persistence. |

WA 94 (1/2000): This is one of the finest Opus Ones to date, offering a dark ruby/purple color, as well as a striking, intense bouquet of sweet licorice intermixed with blackberries, cassis, plums, and saddle leather. This seamless, full-bodied wine is more velvety-textured, opulent, and succulent than past vintages. The mid-palate is expansive and chewy. The long finish is filled with glycerin, ripe fruit, and sweet tannin. Drink this impressive, user-friendly yet richly concentrated effort over the next 15 years. VM 90 (6/2013): A total opposite of the 1995, the 1996 Opus One blasts from the glass with massive dark fruit, iron, scorched earth, graphite and new leather. The 1996 is one of the more virile, bombastic wines in this vertical. Plums, cloves, leather and tar all flesh out on the huge, imposing finish. Although a bit rustic and brooding, the 1996 is an Outstanding wine if taken on its own terms. The finish is framed by substantial tannins and an element of burliness that is likely the result of a succession of heat spikes. In 1986 Opus One is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 3% Malbec. Antonio Galloni |

| VM 89 (12/1999): Dark red-ruby. Dusty, cedary aromas of currant, roasted plum, smoke and tobacco. Pliant and juicy in the mouth, with slightly autumnal redcurrant, tobacco and plum flavors. A drier-styled but rather sophisticated wine. Finishes with firm but even tannins and very good length. |

VM 92 (6/1999): Good deep red-ruby. Enticing aromas of raspberry, plum, nutty oak and game; offers a Burgundian tang. Lush, silky and layered; has the intensity and concentration to wear its acids and tannins gracefully. Finishes very long; the even tannins coat the entire mouth. An excellent '96. WA 90 (1/2000): The 1996 Legacy, a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 17% Cabernet Franc, exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color in addition to a toasty nose, chocolate, black currants, lead pencil, and smoke. Full-bodied, with high tannin, this pure, concentrated wine needs another 2-3 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020. |

VM 90 (6/1999): Good deep ruby-red. Very complex, slightly roasted aromas of plum, cassis, cedar, tobacco and smoky oak; has a liqueur-like ripeness. Large-scaled, soft and harmonious; not as dense or deep as the '97 but quite lush and plummy for the vintage. Finishes with firm, tongue-coating tannins. WA 88 (12/1998): A blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Cabernet Franc, from Viader's beautiful hillside vineyards, this 1996 is made in a polished, graceful style. Medium-bodied, with lush, herb-tinged, raspberry and black currant fruit intermixed with mineral and lead pencil notes, this lovely, stylish, restrained offering already provides pleasant drinking, yet should keep for 10-12 years. |
