| VM 93 (11/2017): Headily decadent aromas of overripe peach and musk melon, peony and lily set the tone for a creamy, enveloping, lusciously fruit-saturated palate. There is enough fresh fruit acidity and salinity to lend the long finish animation and mouthwatering savor, though for now this misses the dynamic or the focus of its Spätlese counterpart, let alone of the Brücke Auslese. (Drink between 2017-2036). David Schildknecht. |

| WA 90 (12/2016): The 2015 Riesling Monzinger Kabinett is very clear, ripe and spicy on the nose, but it's also piquant in its stoniness. On the palate, it has lovely elegance, finesse and purity, and the 42 grams of residual sugar are perfectly integrated. The finish is stimulatingly light and salty. This is a picture book Kabinett. |

| VM 89 (5/2017): This bottling, as usual based in large part on Saarburg and Oberemmel fruit but also incorporating a bit from Wiltingen, delightfully illustrates the bright, animating acidity of its vintage. Fresh apple and pear are laced with zesty lemon and lime and underlain by wet stone on a firm, palpably extract-rich palate. Green herbal pungency and peat-like smokiness lend further interest to an exuberant and refreshing finish. David Schildknecht. |

| VM 94 (5/2017): This sister bottling to the auctioned A.P. #4, harvested the same mid-October day, represents a second fuder from the estate’s sole remaining stand of single-post-trained (Stockkultur) vines, planted in 1958. Müller plans to sell it directly into the trade, probably with an emphasis on restaurants. Bright lime, lusciously ripe white peach, cooling and incisive herbal inflections (mint, lovage, and cress), maritime salinity and wet stone are all announced on the nose, then reconvene on a palpably dense yet alcoholically modest palate. There is a bit more snap, pungency and mineral diversity to this wine’s mouthwatering, vibratory finish than that of the marginally richer and more texturally alluring A.P. #4. What a dream to be able to follow the fruits of these two remarkable fuders! David Schildknecht. |

| VM 95 (5/2017): White peach, quince and lime dominate on the nose as well as on a luscious, subtly creamy yet insistently bright palate, which is rich in glycerol but with striking buoyancy as well as an underlying firmness that suggests the absence of any superfluous fat. Sweetness, too, is so ideally judged and supportive that it is the last thing one thinks about. Hints of cress, mint, yeast and raw almond serve for simultaneous invigoration and cooling caress. The sole Scharzhofberger Spätlese of the Müller 2015 collection offers a wonderful opportunity to experience this site and estate at their best without having to bid with deep pockets at the Trier auctions. Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese |

VM 94 (6/2017): Utterly consistent with the character of the corresponding Kabinett and Spätlese, this projects quince, honeydew, cherry and lime, coolingly and alluringly laced with mint, basil and wintergreen, and wreathed in seductive, lily-like perfume such as one would more likely encounter from Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Certainly this is sweeter than its lower-Prädikat counterparts, but sweetness is not what’s on one’s mind while enjoying it, and there is also liveliness to the fresh, juicy lime component that conveys refreshment rare for an Auslese and pushes back against the wine’s residual sugar. The overall impression is lusciously sorbet-like. The feel is glossy and slightly viscous but buoyant, and in this respect, too, the sense of citricity is highly efficacious, engendering remarkable liveliness for an Auslese that offsets the wine’s richness. The superbly sustained finish cools and soothes even as it animates and refreshes. (Drink between 2017-2040). David Schildknecht. WA 93 (4/2017): The 2015 Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese is very clear, fresh, cool and aromatic, characterized by its ripe and intense fruit aromas, as well as its blue slate flavors. Sweet, dense, lush and piquant, this Riesling has a lovely juiciness and mineral backbone. This is a very intense, but vital and gorgeously succulent Auslese that is great fun to drink, even today. The finish is clear, firm, piquant and salty, indicating a serious, long distance-running Riesling. |

| VM 92 (6/2017): Fresh cherry and lime garlanded in lily and laced with basil, mint and wintergreen inform a perfumed nose and a lusciously juicy, polished, buoyant, coolingly herbal palate. Freshness and vivacity are the watchwords for a refreshingly lingering, multifaceted finish underlain by wet stone and supportively but only subtly kissed with sweetness. Given 9 percent alcohol, one can be sure that the residual sugar is at a modest levels, yet there is all of the levity one could wish for from a Kabinett. (Drink between 2017-2035). | VM 93 (6/2017): Like the corresponding Kabinett, this projects luscious fruit – here apple, cherry and honeydew – coolingly laced with mint and basil for an exhilaratingly penetrating nose and a luscious, expansive, buoyant, subtly creamy palate. Decadent lily perfume adds allure that continues inner-mouth. The apple and cherry take on a jellied aspect white retaining parallel freshness in a finish that also features stony, floral and herbal layers and both soothes and stimulates. (Drink between 2017-2036). David Schildknecht. |

Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel AP 25765111916 |

| VM 92 (6/2017): Imagine a mingling of honeydew melon and green herbal liqueurs with a bit of caramel. The results are both rich in faintly spirituous and torrefactive ways, yet at the same time cooling. At only seven percent alcohol, this harbors correspondingly high residual sugar and its sweetness is probably concealing some finer points of flavor. Expansive, luscious and buoyant, it finishes with memorable sheer length, if not for now the complexity, clarity or elegance exhibited by most of the wines in this superb Prüm collection. But give it some time. (It’s uncertain whether there will be dedicated Lay bottlings from this estate. For now, the acreage is headed into that wholesale communal reorganization and replanting known as Flurbereinigung.) (Drink between 2020-2040). David Schildknecht. |

| VM 92 (6/2017): This 8.5 percent alcohol bottling features site-typical prominence of lemon and grapefruit with bittersweet suggestions of citrus peels, cassis and huckleberry. Lithe and polished, it finishes with stimulating brightness, rapier penetration, and prodigious persistence. Sweetness is the last thing you’re apt to think about while drinking it. Time will certainly bring further complexity, though crystalline and alkaline stony notes already lend nearly limitless intrigue. David Schildknecht. |

Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese |

| VM 94 (6/2017): This was the first – among very few – wines in the 2015 Prüm lineup to lead with a bit of yeasty fermentative “Mosel stink,” but that veil soon parted more than sufficiently to showcase an alliance of ripe honeydew melon with cassis, grapefruit, and hints of cress and lemon peel that subsequently lend incisive, piquant invigoration on a delicate, polished, infectiously juicy palate. Penetrating and sharply focused, but without its efficacious and enlivening acids turning at all aggressive, the tinglingly, refreshingly citric yet soothing and cooling finish serves up a shimmering array of stony, smoky, alkaline and crystalline nuances. | WA 94 (4/2017): The 2015 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (AP 17) is clear, though still a bit reductive on the nose, offering sweet herbal flavors more than anything else. There are very subtle mineral flavors in the background. The wine is round, highly refined and perfectly balanced on the palate, provided with a lush and sweet fruit, an elegant texture and a stimulating salinity and grip in the finish. This is gorgeous! Keep it for another 5-10 years, though. |

Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett |
$65 |

|
| |
| VM 93 (6/2017): Apple and quince are coolingly laced with mint and wintergreen (decidedly reminiscent of the corresponding Bernkasteler) but also, quite unexpectedly, joined by banana, mango and muskmelon for an unusually exotic expression of Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett that is as luscious in the mouth as it is heady on the nose. Lily and heliotrope contribute to the wine’s head-turning aromatic intensity and their inner-mouth perfume to the allure of a subtly creamy palate. For all of its unusually advanced sense of ripeness for a Kabinett, this projects remarkable delicacy and a focused sense of stone, fruit and floral interface in its lingering finish. (The Prüms are fond of observing that their Wehlener Sonnenuhr is usually slower to show itself than others of their wines, but that certainly isn’t the case with this 2015.) David Schildnecht. |

| VM 94 (6/2017): This projects another dimension of clarity, levity and understated complexity from the already impressive Rieslings that preceded it in the 2015 Prüm lineup. Honeysuckle, heliotrope and apple blossom perfumes atop ripe apple and quince capture the attention on the nose, then segue to a near-weightless, subtly creamy, yet generously juicy palate.
