| VM 89 (5/2017): This bottling, as usual based in large part on Saarburg and Oberemmel fruit but also incorporating a bit from Wiltingen, delightfully illustrates the bright, animating acidity of its vintage. Fresh apple and pear are laced with zesty lemon and lime and underlain by wet stone on a firm, palpably extract-rich palate. Green herbal pungency and peat-like smokiness lend further interest to an exuberant and refreshing finish. David Schildknecht. |

| VM 95 (7/2016): The absence of A.P. number from the above description confirms that there is indeed but one 2014 vintage Müller Scharzhofberger Auslese (although there is also an “Auslese Goldkapsel”). Rainier cherry and mirabelle preserves are wreathed in honeysuckle and heliotrope in a performance whose creamy, enveloping richness and honeyed aura depart dramatically from the blazing brightness exhibited by the wines that led up to it. But then, this was picked out at the end of harvest, and even though that was less than two weeks after it began, a lot had happened in between by way of rain and rot, in this case very noble rot. The clinging finish here is downright soothing in comparison with the energy and penetrating, sharp intensity exhibited by the corresponding Spätlesen. That having been noted, juicy fresh grapefruit, lime and white peach all enliven the confitured and honeyed elements of this superb and seductive Auslese. (Drink between 2016-2045). | VM 91 (12/2013): Muskmelon, clove and nut oil on the nose, with a hint of apple blossom. Zesty, almost herbal peach pit flavor accented by delicate spices. Elegant and persistent on the back end, with a piquant slatey note, this kabinett is drier than some of years past and is my call for the finest kabinett of the vintage.. Joel B. Payne. |

| VM 94 (5/2017): This sister bottling to the auctioned A.P. #4, harvested the same mid-October day, represents a second fuder from the estate’s sole remaining stand of single-post-trained (Stockkultur) vines, planted in 1958. Müller plans to sell it directly into the trade, probably with an emphasis on restaurants. Bright lime, lusciously ripe white peach, cooling and incisive herbal inflections (mint, lovage, and cress), maritime salinity and wet stone are all announced on the nose, then reconvene on a palpably dense yet alcoholically modest palate. There is a bit more snap, pungency and mineral diversity to this wine’s mouthwatering, vibratory finish than that of the marginally richer and more texturally alluring A.P. #4. What a dream to be able to follow the fruits of these two remarkable fuders! David Schildknecht. |

| VM 94 (12/2013): Subtle floral aromas of peach nectar, ripe cherry, white raisin and lemon oil. The velvety, creamy tropical fruit flavors remain bright and elegant thanks to the wine's refreshing acidity. Juicy, spicy and long, with a pure, delicately luscious aftertaste. | VM 98 (12/2024): The 2013 Riesling Scharzhofberger Spätlese was opened for comparison, as 2013 was a similarly challenging vintage to 2023. The nose offers a deep, ethereal breath of lifted hayflower, chamomile and tansy steeped in lemon oil. These sinus-clearing aromas color Mirabelle jelly on the palate and lead to naked stone, to slate vibrating with lemon zestiness, calm now but exquisitely radiant and intense with depth. The lightness of body is amazing and the elegance disarming, as is the length. All of this has something of soothing, healing balm. (Drink between 2024-2070). Anne Krebiehl. |

| VM 95 (5/2017): White peach, quince and lime dominate on the nose as well as on a luscious, subtly creamy yet insistently bright palate, which is rich in glycerol but with striking buoyancy as well as an underlying firmness that suggests the absence of any superfluous fat. Sweetness, too, is so ideally judged and supportive that it is the last thing one thinks about. Hints of cress, mint, yeast and raw almond serve for simultaneous invigoration and cooling caress. The sole Scharzhofberger Spätlese of the Müller 2015 collection offers a wonderful opportunity to experience this site and estate at their best without having to bid with deep pockets at the Trier auctions.
