BH 91 (9/2012): This anniversary wine commemorating Jadot's 150th year or operation is a much more interesting effort than the name would suggest. I say this because they have blended together some 19 different Beaune premiers crus. I would start by explaining that when I first opened the bottle it was very closed and reticent and this note is based on a decanted bottle that was kept at cellar temperature while seeing approximately 2 hours of air first so please calibrate your impressions accordingly. The natural ripeness of the 2009 vintage is less apparent with the air though at the same time it accentuates the underlying structure. While the nose is certainly ripe it is not over ripe and is actually quite pretty with attractive red berry fruit, earth and very subtle mineral hints. There is good volume and reasonable concentration to the fleshy and delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess fine intensity and detail, all wrapped in a moderately structured, dusty, mouth coating and firm finish that displays a touch of youthful austerity. This should reward 6 to 8 years of upside and need 2 to 3 before it could at least be drunk with pleasure as it's a bit tight today even with air. Drink 2017+. Outstanding! |

VM 88 (4/2010): Moderately saturated medium red. Musky aromas of redcurrant, cherry and earth, with some autumnal mocha and spice notes building with air. Supple and moderately deep, with good flesh to the sweet redcurrant and smoke flavors. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92 (4/2012): A relatively deeply pitched nose of ripe plum, warm earth, anise and violet hints merges into vibrant, pure, intense and softly mineral-infused medium-bodied flavors that display a distinct austerity on the tight, linear and mouth coating finish. This is not really fashioned in the typical 2009 lush and opulent style as it's as much 2008 as 2009. This clearly needs time because while it is much more harmonious than the markedly awkward cask sample, it nevertheless isn't showing all of its considerable potential. Note that I would not suggest opening a bottle until at least 2016 or so. Drink 2019+. Outstanding! |

BH 89-91 (4/2018): Much more discreet though not invisible wood is present on the essence of red cherry, plum and earth-inflected aromas. Once again there is fine mid-palate density to the sappy and extract-rich medium-bodied flavors that possess a taut muscularity that really comes up on the robust and very firm finish that is a bit chewy if not actually tough. While I doubt that this will ultimately be as refined as it usually is with age, it should still be very good and possibly even excellent. |

BH 91 (6/2022): A reserved nose requires vigorous swirling to reveal its array of cool, pure and nicely complex red and dark berries, earth, spice and a pretty floral whiff. There is an attractive mouthfeel to the sleek and nicely vibrant medium weight flavors that manage to retain good definition on the dusty, moderately warm and sneaky long finale. This youthfully austere effort should repay mid-term cellaring though it's not so tightly wound that it couldn't be enjoyed after only 2 to 4 years. Drink 2031+. |

WA 95 (8/2013): The 2010 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is much bolder and more extravagant on the nose than the Amoureuses with potent mulberry, raspberry and a hint of tomato vine. The tannins are very supple on the palate, the acidity well-judged with raspberry, red currant and cranberry notes. It builds in the mouth, the tannins taking over to manifest a more serious Bonnes-Mares than the nose implies. This is worth cellaring for at least a decade. Drink 2022-2030. VM 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Bonnes-Mares bursts onto the palate with dark cherries, mint, flowers and graphite. This is another picture-perfect, representative wine that captures the essence of the white soils in this part of Bonnes Mares. There is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine's broad shoulders and balance the big tannins. A clean vein of minerality gives the wine its center and focus. A final blast of blue and black fruit stains the palate on the finish. BH 92-95 (4/2012): (100% from the Chambolle side.) A complex, pure and beautifully layered extract of red berry fruit, particularly raspberry nose mixes with notes of stone, earth and a hint of the sauvage. The rich and equally pure tautly muscular flavors exude a fine minerality and I especially like the sense of underlying tension as it imparts energy to the balanced, focused and strikingly long finish. When viewed through the lens of a typical Bonnes Mares, this comes across as a refined effort, which is undoubtedly because of the very fine grain of the supporting tannins. Drink 2027+. Don't miss! |

VM 93-96 (1/2018): (a blend of two-thirds brown soil and one-third white): Full, deep red. Distinctly darker and more medicinal on the nose than the Musigny, hinting at blueberry, blackberry and licorice. Then very ripe and densely packed on the palate, with its flavors of black fruits, medicinal cherry, brown spices and crushed rock lifted by a floral topnote and framed by insidious ripe acidity. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and terrific lift. This wonderfully savory, super-concentrated Bonnes-Mares is actually remarkably sweet and sexy today, but it's hard to believe that it won't shut down in bottle at some point. Stephen Tanzer. BH 92-95 (4/2018): (100% from the Chambolle side that combines about one-third terres rouges and the remainder from terres blanches.) A densely fruited and liqueur-like nose of red cherry, underbrush, spice, earth and menthol slides into the massively-scaled and suave flavors that possess superb mid-palate concentration and evident muscularity before culminating in a robust, powerful and imposingly structured finish that goes on and on. Once again this is an exceptionally firm effort that is beyond all doubt built-to-age and a wine that is going to need at least a decade of bottle age first. Drink 2036+. |

BH 92-94 (4/2019): (100% from the Chambolle side that combines about one-third terres rouges and the remainder from terres blanches.) Moderate wood/menthol influences can be found on the airier aromas that are composed by the essence of softly spicy red currant, lavender and a lovely floral hint. The succulent yet powerful larger-scaled flavors possess evident muscle while exhibiting excellent persistence on the extremely firm, serious and bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. VM 95-97 (1/2020): The 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is armed with precocious black cherries, cassis, crushed violets and a touch of iodine on the nose, aromatics that have no intention of holding back. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, wonderful precision and sense of energy. Almost playful toward the very pure, sensual, vivid finish. This is a superb "BM" from Louis Jadot and it should offer 30-plus years of pleasure. Neal Martin. |

VM 98+ (4/2008): Bright, full deep red. Pungently mineral aromas of raspberry, dried flowers, flint, smoke, mocha and underbrush. A monumental wine of ungodly intensity and extract without any impression of excess weight. The dusty, tactile extract fills the mouth with spicy, minerally, high-toned perfume, and the wine ascends to an even higher level on the peacock's tail of a finish, which boasts great energy and persistence. I drank this bottle over a period of four nights (one of us has to show some restraint), and oxygen couldn't kill, much less flatten, its treble tones, even as its volume and sweetness expanded. I hope I have a chance to revisit this at its peak, in about 20 years. BH 94-97 (4/2007): This is notably riper than any other in this group of Gevrey grands crus with a profoundly complex nose of red and black pinot fruit, warm earth, underbrush, game, anise, clove, mocha and roasted coffee hints that introduce rich, full and intense flavors that are packed with potential on the serious and chewy finish that is both concentrated and powerful while seeming to go on forever. There is quite simply another dimension here that takes the '05 Bèze well beyond its stable mates but be prepared to wait as this will need 15 to 20 years in the cellar first. Sublime. Drink: 2020+ Comments: Don't miss! WS 95 (5/2008): A monolith now, with a core of sweet cherry locked in by the firm structure. There's also a lot of spicy oak. The tannins are substantial and dominate today, but all the components are there. A very fresh, lively red, with a long finish. Best from 2015 through 2040. 50 cases imported. WA 93-95 (6/2007): Deep black cherry, charred meatiness, rose and licorice give away the identity of Jadot’s 2005 Chambertin Clos de Beze. Firm tannins and mouth-filling but bitter black cherry fruit, along with black licorice, wet stones, smoky black tea and Latakia tobacco feature on the palate, and there is a savage grip in the the finish. This lacks the refinement and elegance of many of the best 2005s from this great site, but bids fair to make up for this in sheer intensity and mysteriously complex depth. Here is a potentially ageless wine that doesn’t merely typify the dark side of 2005, but is a veritable Darth Vader of the vintage. |

VM 96 (4/2009): Bright, full red. Vibrant but brooding nose shows a medicinal austerity to the pungent aromas of raspberry, flowers and botanical herbs. Penetrating, high-pitched and brilliantly delineated, with uncanny energy and lift to the red berry, floral and mineral flavors. This saturates every square millimeter of the palate, then explodes with perfume on the expanding aftertaste. The overall impression is of pure soil-driven energy in a rather uncompromising style, but when I drank the second half of my bottle two days later with food, it showed a deep cherry flavor and compelling sweetness. Splendid Clos de Beze. WA 95 (12/2009): The 2006 Chambertin Clos de Beze is in another league from Jadot's other 2006 vintage Chambertin grand crus, or for that matter any wines that went before it in that collection. A complex and classic Clos de Beze nose of rose petal, black raspberry, peat, licorice, dark chocolate, and smoked meats leads to a correspondingly multi-faceted palate of silken textural refinement, underlain by savory, saline minerality. In the best manner of the vintage, this marries soothing and invigoration, concentration and elegance, finishing with lift and refinement as well as riveting, vibratory interplay and extraordinary reach. It should be exciting to plug into a bottle of it anytime over the next 15 years, if not longer. BH 94 (4/2009): Here the nose is as reserved as the Latricières and only grudgingly gives up glimpses of the spicy and earthy red pinot fruit nose that is quite cool with obvious minerality, which continues onto the textured, intense and nervy big-bodied flavors that are textured and classy with highly sophisticated tannins on the long finish. Despite the reserved character of the nose, I was very pleasantly surprised at the relative accessibility this already displays due to the ample buffering sap yet make no mistake, the '06 Bèze will successfully age for years. A knockout that is noticeably better in-bottle than it originally showed from cask. Drink 2018+. |

VM 96+ (4/2012): Bright medium red. Knockout soil-driven nose combines red cherry, cocoa powder, brown spices, dried flowers, lavender and minerals. The palate offers compelling high-pitched flavors of red fruits and flowers complemented by strong saline soil tones. Conveys a powerful impression of extract without any fat. This youthfully imploded wine magically combines power and finesse, finishing with Outstanding sappiness and thrust. It was hard to scrape this off my palate--not that I tried. WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is unusually open and seductive. It flows with extraordinary finesse and pure elegance. White floral notes, cassis and spices wrap around the palate, adding tons of nuance. The firm tannins don’t quite allow the fruit to be fully expressive, but all that is needed here is time. BH 93-95 (5/2011): A strikingly complex nose features an intense spiciness to the otherwise ripe, elegant and nuanced red berry liqueur aromas that are in keeping with the equally spicy and intense broad-shouldered and tautly muscular flavors, all wrapped in a mouth coating and very firm finish that delivers stunning persistence. I like the underlying sense of tension that adds vibrancy to the moderately austere and mineral-driven finale. This should be excellent in time. Drink 2024+. |

VM 95+ (3/2017): Bright medium red. Reticent on the nose but already conveying exhilarating high tones to its aromas of raspberry liqueur, pomegranate, wild herbs, spices and game. Dense and seamless but also salty and penetrating, communicating a distinctly wild aspect to its flavors of cranberry, dark cherry, minerals and game. Aeration brought a compelling creaminess to the middle palate, but the wine's unflagging finish suggests that this powerful expression of soil will repay extended cellaring. Even today, the noble tannins are in perfect harmony with the wine's fruit. Stephen Tanzer. WS 95 (5/2017): High-toned red berry fruit sets the pace for this tensile red, as sweet spice and a chalky undertone add depth. Turns firm and taut on the finish, merely hinting at the potential. Best from 2022 through 2040. 180 cases made. BH 94 (4/2017): Discernible wood highlights the elegant, pure and highly spiced aromas of perfumed red pinot fruit that displays additional depth in the form of Gevrey style earth, floral and Asian-style tea notes. There is a softly exotic character to the mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that retain a fine sense of detail and intensity on the hugely long, complex and palate staining finish. This is a beautiful if firmly structured wine that is likely going to need between 12 and 15 years of cellar time to reveal its full, and considerable, potential. Drink 2026+. |

WA 96+ (1/2019): Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing marvelously, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of juicy cherries, cassis, blood orange, violets and rich spices, its framing of new oak already almost entirely integrated. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and utterly complete, with a bottomless core of cool, sappy fruit that entirely conceals its supple but abundant tannins. Immensely concentrated and strikingly structurally refined, this is a brilliant Clos de Bèze that's more classically balanced than the more overtly ripe 2015. VM 94-96 (1/2018): (Jadot made 85% of a normal yield here): Bright, full red. Very ripe, almost liqueur-like aromas of cherry and raspberry enlivened by rose petal, menthol and crushed stone. Compellingly rich and dense but light on its feet; even richer and riper than the Chapelle but still with terrific inner-mouth energy and juicy definition. The intense red berry flavors are complicated by an exotic spicy/herbal element of za'atar. Even more backward than the Chapelle but the tannins are wonderfully refined and the raspberry and spice finish at least as long. (Jadot also has a single purchased barrel of Chambertin, but the wine was too reduced and leathery to assess--not to mention chunky and a bit aggressive following a very late malo.) Stephen Tanzer. BH 93-95 (4/2018): This too displays bourgeon de cassis reduction and plenty of wood influence. More positively, there is a bit more mid-palate concentration to the more refined yet still tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that possess slightly better complexity and equally good length on the ever-so-slightly warm finale. Note well that this superb effort is also very firmly structured and is likely to age glacially over many years. Drink 2036+. Don't miss! |

BH 92-95 (4/2020): A spicier and slightly cooler nose reluctantly offers up notes of red cherry, violet, sandalwood and a whisper of smoked meat. The relatively refined and nicely vibrant medium weight plus flavors are not quite as concentrated but there is a bit more energy on the balanced and beautifully persistent finale. This too should age and improve for several decades. Drink 2033+. Don't miss! VM 92-94 (1/2020): The 2018 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a highly perfumed, incense- and lavender-infused bouquet that retains admirable delineation, one that you would think comes from a cooler growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe, revealing dark chocolate and cedar notes toward the finish and mint on the aftertaste. Perhaps the finish does not quite match the alluring bouquet, but it should mature nicely over the next couple of decades. Neal Martin. |

BH 93 (4/2012): (from the oldest vines of the entire Jadot portfolio of owned vineyards.) A pretty and cool but distinctly ripe mix of upper and lower register aromas includes notes of red currant, wild red berries, earth and stone hints. The attractively energetic and focused medium weight plus flavors possess very fine mid-palate concentration with a silky yet firm mouth feel. There is excellent depth and length to the palate staining finish that is an exercise in harmony and balance though there is some youthful asperity present. Lovely and this should age exceptionally well. Drink 2024+. |

VM 94 (10/2019): The 2016 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a crisp red cherry and crushed strawberry scented bouquet with just a touch of tomato vine. The oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a touch of fleshiness towards the finish with hints of white pepper and clove. This is a complex and persistent Grand Cru that will age with style. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2023-2050). Neal Martin. |

BH 92-94 (1/2020): The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very attractive, pure, well-defined bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberry, sous-bois and light orange pith aromas that gain intensity with aeration. VM 94 (3/2016): Medium red with a palish rim. Complex, soil-inflected aromas of red berries, rose petal, coffee, meat and musky underbrush. In the mouth, fine-grained raspberry, game and savory soil flavors are invigorated by notes of flowers, pepper and spices. Structured but without any hardness, this surprisingly accessible wine finishes with suave, nearly invisible tannins and a strong repeating raspberry flavor. With time in the glass, exotic notes of yellow peach and passion fruit emerged. This fascinating Clos de la Roche is less backward than some examples of this grand cru in 2013. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (4/2017): Notes of wood and menthol combine with those of red currant, dark raspberry and plenty of earth and game scents. The velvety yet quite powerful big-bodied flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the otherwise notably firm tannic spine to the background on the built-to-age, balanced and wonderfully persistent finale. Drink 2032+. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a voluminous and extravagant bouquet with blooms of red berry fruit, although I found myself more drawn to the complex and intellectual Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a masculine, assertive Clos de la Roche, quite saline in the mouth with a feisty, spicy finish. This is a fine grand cru from Louis Jadot, though not one of their top releases this vintage. VM 90-92 (1/2017): (a blend of purchased wine from two sources): Good full red. Aromas of cherry, herbs and oak show a youthfully medicinal quality. Powerful but a touch dry; this strikes me a bit energetically extracted at the expense of the vintage's potential silkiness. The medicinal menthol quality is complicated by notes of brown spices and earth, but the wine's primary fruit is very much in the background today. Finishes dry and imploded, with strong tannins. Not my favorite style of Clos de la Roche. Jadot has eight barrels of this wine, four made via a classic vinification, according to Barnier, and four using more modern, extractive techniques. Stephen Tanzer. |

WS 97 (2/2019): Rose, cherry and spice aromas introduce this light-bodied, saturated version. The flavors add wild strawberry, incense and kirsch notes, while remaining persistent on the kaleidoscopic finish. Feels tense now, yet should develop nicely over time. A mineral element lingers. Best from 2023 through 2045. 900 cases made. WA 93 (1/2019): The 2016 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing well from bottle, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully primary bouquet of ripe cherries, red berries, candied peel and cassis that's subtly framed by some nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny textured, its broad-shouldered chassis of impressively fine-grained tannin cloaked in a succulent, even tangy core of vibrant fruit, concluding with a long and nicely defined finish. While the structure is sufficiently refined that drinking a glass now isn't a brutalizing experience, a decade of patience is recommended. VM 91-93 (1/2018): (Jadot's vines in the lower part of the clos produced a normal yield in 2016): Bright, dark red. Medicinal red cherry, licorice, herbs and a strong element of spicy oak on the nose. Concentrated, savory and flavorful, communicating an impression of medicinal reserve. A classic, rather old-fashioned, masculine style of Clos Vougeot but not rustic or hard. Still, its tight, dusty tannins will require extended cellaring. Technical director Frederic Barnier believes that Jadot's Clos Vougeot has been getting steadily softer, as this site has benefited from climate change; he also noted that he has not changed the vinification. Still, this is a seriously tannic, rather saline wine without any easy sweetness. Stephen Tanzer. BH 92-94 (4/2018): An intensely earthy nose of a wide range of red berry aromas is surrounded by an abundance of menthol and wood scents. The muscular and sizably-scaled flavors possess a rounded and relatively supple mid-palate that contrasts considerably with the robust, serious, rustic and exceptionally firm finish. I like the depth as well as the persistence of this youthfully austere finish that makes clear that this too is going to require extended cellaring. Drink 2036+. |

VM 93-95 (1/2020): The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an intense bouquet of blueberry, cassis and iodine aromas, almost Chambolle-like in style. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Citrus-fresh with orange peel and marmalade notes toward the persistent finish. Excellent. Neal Martin. |

BH 93 (6/2022): A relatively expressive nose offers up its array of essence of red berries, earth and pretty floral suggestions trimmed in just enough wood to mention. There is a lovely texture to the otherwise reasonably concentrated and moderately powerful flavors that also coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also helps partially buffer the solidly firm and slightly raspy tannic spine shaping the austere, mildly warm and compact finale. This is clearly going to require time to reach its full potential though it's not so structured that it couldn't be approached after 6 to 8 years. Drink 2031+. |

BH 93-96 (4/2021): A plethora of spice nuances are present on the emphatically floral-suffused nose of red raspberry, earth and a whiff of exotic tea, all of which is trimmed in wood and menthol nuances. The plump, round and highly seductive flavors possess both good mid-palate density and a very sophisticated mouthfeel that continues onto the relatively powerful and highly persistent finale. The intrinsic class of a fine CSD is very much present and this is seriously impressive. Drink 2036+. |

WS 93 (5/2008): This red is solidly structured and packed with fruit. Black cherry and wild blackberry notes are beginning to struggle against the dense tannins as this appears to be shutting down. There's a core of pure fruit, and it has vibrancy and energy. The finish goes on and on. Best from 2015 through 2035. 100 cases imported. VM 92+ (4/2008): Medium red. Reticent but fresh nose suggests menthol and stone. Silky-smooth but initially withdrawn, this opened in the glass to show vibrant flavors of spicy red fruits and minerals. Boasts superb energy and depth. The finish is firmly structured yet remarkably expansive and long, suggesting that this wine will repay 10 to 12 years of cellaring. WA 90-92 (6/2007): Jadot’s 2005 Corton Pougets displays luscious plum and black cherry in conjunction with grilled, singed lamb and chalky, alkaline, stony underlying character. Allspice, black pepper and pungent herbal shadings become evident on the palate. This impressively dense, meaty, mineral-laden wine displays polished tannins and persistently clear, ripe bitter-sweet black fruit, leading to a long, firmly gripping finish. Don’t be in any hurry to revisit it, and expect at least a dozen years of interesting development. (A Corton Greves on which I withhold any judgment was awkwardly tart and tannic, having as yet for some reason, said Lardiere, failed to recover from its post-malo racking.) BH 91-94 (4/2007): A touch of wood spice frames the elegant, airy and much cooler and more reserved mix of red and dark berry fruit, earth and a hint of smoke. The rich, pure and refined medium full flavors retain a fine sense of cut and detail on the intensely mineral finish that is linear, explosive and hugely long. This is going to be a long-distance runner as the balance is impeccable. In sum, this is a Corton of evident breed. Drink 2017+. |

BH 93 (4/2019): Only a trace of wood influence frames gamy red and dark currant aromas that are liberally laced with spice and earth hints. As is usually the case, the mouth feel of the middle weight plus flavors is powerful, tautly muscular and energetic while offering excellent depth and length on the serious, markedly austere and very backward finish where touches of wood and warmth show up. While I suspect that this will be approachable after only 8 to 10 years, it will need the better part of 20 to arrive at its full potential. Drink 2034+. |

VM 94-96 (1/2020): The 2018 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a very composed, detailed bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and pressed rose petal aromas, the most elegant of the three Cortons 2018s from Jadot. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and wonderful acidity. Very harmonious, with an almost luxurious but compelling finish. Superb. Neal Martin. |

VM 95 (4/2008): Deep red. The nose offers an essence of Clos Saint-Jacques: raspberry, cherry, rose petal, minerals and smoke, plus a whiff of fresh leather. Wonderfully sweet but at the same time sharply delineated, conveys a nearly saline impression of extract. An ineffable floral element provides captivating inner-mouth perfume. Utterly seamless wine that finishes with perfectly harmonious tannins and palate-staining aromatic character. This is too sexy now but I'm not complaining. BH 92-95 (4/2007): Here the nose is decidedly fresher with ripe, expressive and dense red berry fruit nuanced with ample Gevrey earth that continues onto the rich, full and very vibrant flavors that are delicious and built to age, culminating in a hugely long finish that does a slow build from the mid-palate on back. This is as good a young Jadot Clos St. Jacques as I can remember in some time. In short, there is formidable potential here. WA 92-94 (6/2007): The Jadot 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques smells of black cherry, charred beef, high-toned cherry pit and almond as well as of an alkaline and wet stone minerality. It has density and real grip on the palate, displaying low-toned meatiness and smoky, stony, salty minerality in its long finish. And for all of this wine’s manifest extract and tannin, it displays a flattering creaminess of texture that few of Jadot’s wines possess. |

WS 93 (4/2016): Intense and powerful, with plum, black cherry and spice flavors flowing before giving way to dense tannins. Finishes with tobacco and mineral elements. All the components are there, but this needs time to integrate. Best from 2018 through 2027. 200 cases imported. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques has a very refined, you could almost say "mild-mannered" bouquet compared to the other Gevrey premier cru, with more mineral notes and more floral scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a sturdy and assertive entry: bold but ripe, supple tannin knitted with well-judged acidity that dovetail into a very focused finish. This is not as immediate as I believe the other Gevrey premier cru will be and will deserve several years in bottle. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Here there is a bit more wood with the associated traces of menthol that surround the elegant floral and like the Estournelles, airy essence of red berry fruit liqueur and spice suffused aromas. There is a sophisticated mouth feel to the appealingly textured, intense and focused middle weight flavors that also display plenty of minerality that serves to add lift to the structured, serious and strikingly long finish. This is indisputably terrific though interestingly it doesn't seem to have quite as much separation between it and the other Gevrey 1ers in the range as I typically find chez Jadot. Still, this should be a really lovely effort though note well that this is a CSJ for the patient. Drink 2027+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 90-93 (1/2015): (this fruit was harvested on October 10, following heavy rain on the 9th): Medium red. Lovely rose petal perfume dominates the nose. Juicy and pure but tight and youthfully unforgiving; showing less fat and volume than the Estournelles. Unless this is simply painfully backward, it's hard to imagine this wine ever delivering the satisfaction of the Estournelles. Stephen. Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (4/2018): Here too there is a distinct coolness to the wonderfully pure aromas of earth, rose petal, red currant and the sauvage that are set off by noticeable wood and menthol nuances. The rich, dense and sappy broad-shouldered yet refined flavors possess a suave and polished mouth feel, all wrapped in a stony and hugely long finish. This excellent effort is markedly firm but very well-balanced and should age effortlessly for years to come. Drink 2031+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2018): (the crop was reduced 30% by the frost): Bright, full, dark red. Some very ripe notes to the aromas of cherry, raspberry coulis, strawberry and smoky minerals (technical director Barnier believes that Jadot was the last of the five owners of Clos Saint-Jacques to harvest in 2016). A step up in creaminess of texture from the foregoing Gevrey premier crus, but with terrific precision and acidity for all its density and richness. This very deep Clos Saint-Jacques conveys a restrained sweetness and lovely inner-mouth floral lift. Best today on the very long, rising finish, which features noble tannins and subtle notes of rose petal and tobacco. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 92-94+ (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) unfurls in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of sweet red berries, coffee roast, raw cocoa, candied peel and cedary new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an abundance of satiny structuring tannin, juicy acids and a long, pure finish. As usual, this will require some bottle age, but it's one of the high points of the collection. BH 91-94 (4/2019): Like several of the foregoing wines, the wood and menthol-infused nose is quite firmly reduced and basically unreadable today. Otherwise there is exceptionally good richness and volume to the concentrated flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a velvety mouth feel as well as buffers the notably firm tannic spine shaping the muscular and youthfully austere finale. This is presently not especially complex but the underlying material appears to be present such that the normal outstanding depth should gradually develop. Drink 2032+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru clearly has the finest bouquet of seven wines that I tasted from the appellation by Jadot. It is very precise and focused, showing superb edginess and impressive terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is quite linear in style, the fruit just a little muted toward the finish, but there is fine structure and detail on this more masculine Clos Saint-Jacques than anticipated.Neal Martin.' |

VM 94-96 (1/2020): The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet that just pips the Cazetiers for precision and poise. This is detailed and very finely tuned, the oak married perfectly with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and very well-judged acidity, almost sorbet-fresh. The vivacious blood-orange-infused finish seems to shimmer. This is a great Clos Saint-Jacques from Louis Jadot. Neal Martin. |

WA 95-97 (2/2012): The 2010 Grands Echezeaux shows significantly more energy and floral lift than the Echezeaux. This is breathtaking juice. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. VM 92-95 (2/2013): Good bright medium red. Medicinal cherry liqueur, red licorice and spicy oak on the nose. Then penetrating and intense but suave, with lovely sappiness to the flavors of raspberry, cranberry and flowers. The grower Jadot buys this fruit from has recently added a vibrating sorting table, and converted entirely to new stainless steel fermentation tanks as of 2010. BH 92-95 (4/2012): A stunningly complex nose of black fruit, warm earth, game and a plethora of spice notes gives way to broad-shouldered, powerful and overtly muscular flavors that are firm and intense but not rustic as the compact tannins are more than well-buffered by the plenitude of dry extract on the mouth coating, explosive and hugely persistent finish. This is robust but in a sleek and athletic fashion rather than that of a sumo wrestler. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

BH 92-94 (5/2011): A ripe yet noticeably reserved and cool nose offers up notes of raspberry, cherry and stone hints. There is good richness to the detailed, intense and vibrant big-bodied flavors that display excellent delineation on the overtly austere, mouth coating and impressively complex finish. This is still very tight and will require plenty of bottle age to shed the considerable tannins though it should be well worth the wait. Drink 2024+. VM 92-94 (2/2011): Good full red. Deeply pitched nose hints at smoke and licorice. Deep, powerful and rich but very closed. Quite full-bodied and ripe but not a sweet style, displaying the medicinal aspect characteristic of the cru. Finishes very long, with substantial chewy tannins. From a crop level of just 32 hectoliters per hectare. This was vinified in a new vat, which is responsible for the impression of smoky oak today, says Lardiere, noting that the wine was chaptalized a half degree. WA 91-94 (5/2011): The 2009 Chambertin flows across the palate with explosive yet silky layers of fruit. The wine continues to build impressively, showing the radiant personality of the vintage. Everything is in the perfect place in this sublime Burgundy. Sweet inner fragrance lingers on the eternal finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. |

VM 94-96 (1/2020): The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru has a harmonious, powerful bouquet of layers of red berry fruit laced with crushed stone and pressed rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Hints of wild mint and star anise infuse the finish, which fans out gloriously. This is a step ahead of the Clos-de-Bèze this year. Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (4/2020): A deft touch of wood sets off brooding and deeply pitched aromas of cooler dark currant, violet and a hint of humus. There is excellent power and concentration to the sleek, intense and stony flavors that evidence obvious muscle that really comes up on the palate coating, austere and mineral-suffused finish. This robust effort is even slightly firmer and plenty of patience is recommended. Drink 2035+. |

BH 97 (10/2014): As readers know, I am not a huge fan of the '97 vintage as the reds often possess a slightly under ripe and greenish character to the structure despite having a very ripe, indeed sometimes stewed, fruit nose. This however is a lovely effort in the context of the vintage with a very deep color that telegraphs the ripe but not over ripe overtly spicy fruit aromas that are just beginning to display secondary characteristics. The rich and very firmly structured, even robust big-bodied flavors possess plenty of density and just enough acidity to keep everything in balance. This will not seduce or charm you but it is a mouthful of wine that is built along the lines of power and punch rather than elegance and grace. In sum this is a masculine Musigny that will still require ample time in the cellar to reveal its full potential and while this was by no means the finest wine of the tasting, it is indisputably an excellent effort for the vintage. Drink 2019+. |

VM 95-97 (1/2019): The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru, which contains just under 50% stems, demands more coaxing than the Les Amoureuses, eventually revealing cranberry and hints of hoisin, sous-bois, tobacco and crushed stone aromas, all very complex. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannin framing pure dark berry fruit laced with brown spice, tobacco and sage. This Musigny displays wonderful density and power, yet retains the precision of a noble Burgundy on the long finish. Outstanding. Neal Martin. |

WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a deep and introspective bouquet with broody dark berry fruit, wild hedgerow and forest floor aromas that draw you in. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. This is linear at the moment, very nicely focused with a dash of white pepper on the finish livening things up. Very fine...but patience required. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Like the Charmes and the Griotte, Barnier said that this was not vinified by Jadot. There is a pretty and expressive nose of red currant, raspberry, wild cherry and soft sauvage hints where the latter continues onto the dense, serious and powerful big-bodied flavors that are also shaped by a very firm and slightly rustic finish that delivers excellent if not truly sensation persistence. I slightly prefer the Chapelle for its greater refinement but it's close qualitatively speaking. Note that this too will require plenty of patience. VM 90-92 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Lightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol and smoke. Sweet on entry, then rather backward on the palate; has no shortage of salty stuffing but an impression of lowish acidity gives the brooding palate a slightly heavy quality. Tannins are reasonably ripe but this wine is a cipher today. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 86-89 (3/2007): Palish medium red. Scented nose combines redcurrant, spices and leather, all lifted by a mineral pungency. Sweet, spicy and on the light side, with good spicy, floral lift. Not especially dense or fleshy today but finishes with good aromatic persistence. |

Vosne Romanee 1er Cru les Beaux Monts |

|
WA 92-94 (6/2007): Alluring scents of ripe purple plum, black currant, clove, and star anise mark Jadot’s 2005 Vosne-Romanee Beaux Monts. Smoked and roasted meat flavors ally themselves to dark fruits and exotic spices on the palate, with subtle hints of caramel and vanilla from the oak accenting rather than intruding. This displays a warmer, more obviously rich and opulent character than many young 2005 Vosnes and than nearly any other 2005s from Jadot. Deep, fat folds of fruit persist with spices and low-toned roasted meat into an imposingly long, sumptuous finish. One could enjoy this soon if it does not close up, but it certainly has the concentration and potential to reward at least five years’ patience. BH 91-93 (4/2007): This is very Vosne on the nose with an expansively spicy and expressive black fruit nose that complements perfectly the rich, full and sweet medium-bodied flavors that are lush and suave on the round, powerful and intense finish that displays impressive length on the mineral suffused finish. A really fine effort that should repay at least a decade of cellaring. Drink 2015+. VM 90-92 (4/2007): Good ruby-red. Very ripe but brooding aromas of dark berries, bitter chocolate and licorice, with a minty, medicinal element. Dense, sweet and suave, with an enticing, subtle sweetness, good lift and a layered texture. Finishes with chewy tannins and excellent length. - By the way, Lardiere is high on the 2004 version of this bottling. |

WA 92 (12/2009): Beet root and ripe blackberry spiced with clove, vanilla, black tea, and star anise mark the nose of Jadot's 2006 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts, segueing onto a palate of impressively refined texture through which runs an uncannily saline, savory, meaty streak. A dark, intricate carpeting of fruit, spice, roasted meat, and forest floor detritus is allied here with invigorating salinity and a finishing lift and elegance that typify so many of the best 2006s. This beauty should repay attention for at least 7-9 years. BH 90-92 (4/2008): This is also quite elegant and pure with a highly spiced nose featuring red and blue pinot fruit as well as violet and rose petal notes that introduce minerally and cool flavors that are long, classy and refined with excellent finishing energy and punch. Drink 2014+. Outstanding! VM 89-91 (3/2008): Good full red. Spicy, ripe redcurrant and marzipan on the nose. Then spicy and a bit candied in the mouth, showing very good intensity but not quite the early sweetness of the Boudots. Finishes with substantial, tongue-coating tannins and lingering spice. |

BH 91-94 (4/2012): This is also notably ripe with a pungent and highly expressive nose of cassis, menthol and wood toast where additional breadth is present in the form of wet stone and spices. VM 93+ (4/2008): Good full red. Pure, subdued nose offers subtly perfumed notes of flowers, exotic spices, smoke and earth. Silky, sweet and highly concentrated in the mouth, with superb energy and length. Strong minerality contributes to a juiciness in the mouth and on the aftertaste. Finishes dry, precise and very long, with resounding minerality. BH 91-94 (4/2007): I generally have a slight preference for the Beaux Monts chez Jadot but not in 2005 with the Suchots' more reserved but deeper nose of densely fruit and spice leading to exceptionally concentrated, textured and palate staining flavors that possess a beguiling mouth feel and positively huge length. This is also very Vosne in underlying character with a good deal more power if, as one would expect, somewhat less elegance. A terrific effort and this too should amply repay an extended cellar snooze. WA 90-92 (6/2007): The 2005 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots gives off scents of black currant, raw meat, violets and truffles. Rather spare in texture but clear and concentrated on the palate, with notes of roasted meat and caramelized parsnip welling up as one works it around, this is refined and long with subtle spices and salty minerality meeting the fruit and meat in the finish, although the richness of the Beaux Monts is missing. (I did not taste Jadot’s 2005 from the Petits Monts.) WS 89 (5/2008): This shows blackberry, cherry and vanilla notes, but there's also a burly side to it. A bit coarse now, starting better than it finishes. Best from 2012 through 2025. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 50 cases imported. |

BH 91 (4/2013): Very discreet wood sets off exuberantly spicy aromas of plum, cassis and black raspberry liqueur. There is an ultra-sophisticated mouth feel to the silky-textured medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with so much extract that they culminate in an incredibly suave yet balanced finish that is built to age. There is a very mild touch of backend dryness that is likely due to the bottling and will probably round out in time but it does cause me to score this slightly lower than I otherwise might have. VM 89-91 (1/2019): The 2017 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots 1er Cru is cut from a more elegant cloth than usual. The bouquet is nicely defined, offering perfumed dark cherry, cranberry and orange blossom aromas. The palate is crisp and well-defined on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, and quite linear and correct – toward the finish, I begin missing the sensuality and voluptuousness that I expect from this Premier Cru. Hopefully it will gain some weight once in bottle. Neal Martin. |

VM 93-95 (1/2020): The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, which comes from the Puligny side, is much more reserved and austere compared to the showier Bienvenue, although it is still very well defined with impressive mineralite. VM 94-96 (1/2020): The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Demoiselles Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet with scents of lemon and orange zest, pralines and crushed stone (somehow it reminds me of lemon drizzle cake!) The palate is fresh and taut on the entry, delivering impressive depth, good salinity in the mouth and a spicy, harmonious finish that lingers. There is a lovely crescendo of intensity in this Grand Cru. Superb. Neal Martin. |

WA 94-96 (1/2024): The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Les Demoiselles (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is, as usual, one of the high points of the range, unfurling in the glass with aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, white flowers, toasted bread, iodine and subtle reduction. Full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's suave and charming, with a layered, vibrant core of fruit and a long, lively finish. |

BH 91-94 (6/2019): (from Les Pougets in Aloxe-Corton.) A classic nose of green apple, citrus peel, white fruit and wet stone introduces racy, ultra-intense and almost aggressively mineral-driven flavors that don't quite possess the sheer weight and power of the Montrachet on the still impressively complex and lingering finish. This too is quite firm and will need every bit of 12 to 15 years to reveal its full, and considerable, potential. Drink 2029+. |

VM 93-95 (1/2020): The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a fresh bouquet of fennel, mint and light hazelnut aromas, all complementing the citrus fruit. The palate is vibrant and fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity. Harmonious from start to finish, it delivers an appealing spiciness that leaves the tongue tingling, thanks to a dab of ginger on the aftertaste. Very fine. Neal Martin. |

WA 94-95 (1/2024): The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), which is continuing its élevage in foudre, unwinds in the glass with notes of citrus oil, pear, hazelnuts, fresh mint and subtle reduction. Full-bodied, layered and chalky, with a rich core of fruit that's still youthfully tightly wound, it concludes with a long, resonant finish. It's one of the high points of the range this year. |

BH 91-93 (6/2022): A naturally exotic nose features cool and ultra-pure aromas of jasmine tea, carnation, rose petal and fresh essence of pear. The finer if slightly less concentrated middle weight flavors exude an appealing bead of minerality on the beautifully persistent and well-balanced finale. This very dry but not really austere effort should also amply repay extended cellaring. Drink 2030+. Outstanding! |
