| WA 91 (4/1998): The 1995 Beaune Clos Des Mouches, tasted for the third time (once out of barrel, once out of bottle in the United States, and again at the firm's headquarters in Beaune), is truly delicious. Medium-to-dark ruby-colored (hints of purple are still present on the rim), this wine displays roses, violets, black raspberries, and cherries on the nose and a medium-to-full-bodied, silky, complex, and gorgeously-balanced personality. Its flavor profile is packed with intense cherries, strawberries, and minerals which linger in its prodigious finish. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2009. |

WA 92 (6/2007): Representing huge domaine holdings and in effect the Drouhin flag ship, their 2005 Beaune Clos des Mouches displays aromas of roasted meat, wood smoke, black truffles, plum and black raspberry. Persistently meaty in the mouth, with plum pit and wet stone adjuncts, this is archetypal 2005: richly ripe yet with an invigorating tart fresh edge and quite dark, even somber in flavor shadings. The long savory finish, while pouring out a generous helping of top quality fruit and meat juices, also offers a veritable catalog of mineral nuances ... if only one had names for them all. This should be terrific in 5-7 years.
BH 92 (4/2007): After taking a year off in 2004 (it was not released because of hail), the red Clos des Mouches is back and in excellent form with a high-toned and wonderfully seductive nose of raspberry and strawberry aromas nuanced by hints of oak, spice and earth that continues on the rich, sweet and solidly detailed medium full flavors, all wrapped in a delicious, supple and relatively forward finish supported by buried tannins. Like the Grèves, this is so well balanced that it should age effortlessly.
WS 90 (4/2009): There's spice from oak on the nose, which leads to a core of concentrated cherry flavor. Very refined and elegant, with the purity and ripe fruit of 2005. Best from 2011 through 2024. 500 cases imported.
VM 88+ (4/2008): Good full red. Reduced aromas of smoked meat and flint. Possesses good sweet fruit and a fairly lush texture but this is difficult to taste today owing to its reductive state. Best today on the broad, long finish, which features very suave tannins. |

WA 93 (5/2011): The 2009 Beaune Clos des Mouches is totally beautiful. It shows gorgeous inner perfume and a weightless, gracious personality. The inner sweetness of the fruit flows nicely to the sensual, radiant fruit. A lovely vein of minerality underpins the subtle finish. Drouhin has a total of 7 hectares planted with Pinot Noir in the Clos des Mouches. The house’s harvest starts and ends here. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2039.
BH 92 (5/2011): Very mild reduction is not enough to completely hide the otherwise pretty nose of red berry fruit, violets and earth aromas though if you're going to drink one young, I would recommend 20 to 30 minutes of aeration first. The rich but well detailed and quite finely mineral-inflected flavors possess a fleshy mouth feel as well as excellent volume and length. This is quite ripe but not over the top and this should age well. Drink 2017+. Sweet Spot Outstanding!
WS 92 (6/2012): A touch of reduction—smoke, rubber—signals this cherry-flavored red, which is silky, dense and firm, with a lingering sweet fruit- and spice-tinged finish. Opens up with air, so decant if you drink now. Best from 2015 through 2032. 500 cases imported.
VM 90 (4/2012): (30% vendange entier): Medium-red. Aromas of dark cherry, minerals, licorice and smoke; much more soil-driven than the Greves. Ripe and deep, with a saline quality to the mineral, mocha and chocolate flavors. Nicely concentrated, sweet Beaune wine with the lush texture of the year. This has turned out well. |

| VM 92 (2/2019): Medium yellow. Very sexy scents of ripe stone fruits, minerals, clove and menthol, plus a suggestion of redcurrant and a Batard-like toasty nuance. Large-scaled, plush and powerful but also quite fine-grained, with salty minerality and a repeating menthol element carrying through to a palate-staining finish. There's lovely supporting acidity here for such a rich, ripe wine. A touch of sweetness gives this complex, chewy premier cru some early appeal but there's much more to come here. (I should note that my first bottle showed a deeper yellow color. It was sweet and silky but displayed more evolved notes of ripe apricot, marzipan and white chocolate, as well as a balsamic element, almost certainly due to a bad cork or cork seal. On the plus side there is a really lovely texture to the elegant and vibrant medium weight flavors that possess very fine complexity on the highly persistent finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. The rich and relatively full-bodied medium-bodied flavors possess both good punch and focused power if not the sheer size and weight of the Morgeot, all wrapped in a lingering and complex finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. | VM 94 (5/2022): The 2020 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru, which comes from deeper soils than the Beaune Grèves, has a mixture of red and black fruit and is a touch more expressive with a discrete marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, very layered with a gentle but insistent grip on the finish. This is one of the finest Clos des Mouches that I have tasted. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92 (4/2018): (from a .80 ha parcel in the climat of Sur les Grèves.) Here the nose plays on the edge of reduction and while it doesn't completely mask the floral-scented nose of dark berries and earth, it does render it less expressive. The rich and notably denser medium-bodied flavors also flash a lovely minerality that adds a sense of lift to the much firmer, even robust finish that is presently somewhat youthfully austere. Patience required but this should ultimately be excellent. Drink 2028+. Outstanding! |

| BH 90 (4/2016): An exceptionally fresh and cool nose is comprised of ripe red current and dark cherry aromas that are freely laced with floral and spice hints. There is a fleshy, even generous and succulent mouth feel to the medium weight flavors that coat the palate on the mineral and saline-inflected finale that deliver first-rate length. WS 92 (3/2013): A languid red, with cherry, raspberry and currant flavors that float across the palate on a silky texture. Spice and earth notes add depth to this long and harmonious version. Best from 2015 through 2028. 72 cases imported.
BH 90 (4/2012): A ripe and moderately elegant nose offers up notes of ripe and fresh dark pinot fruit, wet stone and relatively strong earth scents. There is the hallmark Chambolle refinement to the pure and equally ripe middle weight flavors that are supported by dense but fine tannins that contribute to the suave mouth feel, all wrapped in a persistent and dusty finish that offers very good if not truly exceptional depth. Drink 2020+.
WA 89+ (2/2012): The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru shows the extroverted side of Chambolle in its exuberant dark fruit and powerful tannins. The wine turns more delicate and sensual with time in the glass. The 1er Cru had just been bottled at the time of my visit and there is little doubt it needs time to recover. Still, this is a fairly big style of Chambolle. The 1er Cru is a blend of five vineyards on the south side of the village. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. |

BH 94 (4/2012): This has turned out to be even slightly better than my already positive initial review (see herein) with its now lightly oaky nose of warm earth, cassis and notably ripe and highly complex crushed berry aromas. The impressive depth of the nose continues onto the highly refined, silky and solidly well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are gorgeously rich and generous yet notably refined, all wrapped in a hugely long finish. This is a classic Charmes that is built more along the lines of finesse and understatement than robust power. Moreover, while clearly still on the way up, with air it can easily be enjoyed now. In a word, terrific. Tasted several times recently with consistent notes. Try from 2017+.
VM 90+ (4/2008): Medium red. Floral, high-pitched aromas of strawberry, red cherry, rose petal and minerals. Dense and rich but a tad chunky, even youthfully severe, for a Drouhin wine, with distinct suggestions of superripe fruit. There's some floral lift to the red fruit flavors as well as a chocolatey quality on the finish, which features dusty tannins.
WA 90+ (6/2007): Drouhin’s 2005 Charmes Chambertin (from the “true" Charmes, and from purchased grapes) offers site-typical vividness of cherry fruit, with subtle notes of licorice, vanilla, flowers and brown spices in a lovely bouquet. Sleek and refined in texture and strikingly pure in fruit on the palate, it seems a bit demure (though bright and mouth-watering) in its finish, possibly on account of its recent bottling. |

BH 93 (5/2007): A marvelously complex nose that is just beginning to display the first hints of secondary aromas (though no sous bois) leads to concentrated black cherry flavors with firm but harmonious tannins underpinned by firm acidity and excellent length where the structure comes across as a dusty element. This is a big wine by the standards of the domaine and is very classy juice that continues to positively evolve and as such, I have extended my suggested drinking window. Drink: 2012+.
WA 90-92 (6/1997): The day I tasted the dark-colored Musigny, it was extremely muted aromatically. On the palate it revealed tightly wound (almost nervous), super-delineated and polished fresh cherries, cassis and violets. Medium-to-full bodied, supple and very long, it is obviously an Outstanding wine but it is closed. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2010.
WS 90 (1/1998): Sexy and racy, with wild raspberry, rose petal, violet, mocha and white chocolate character. Full-bodied, with ripe but firm tannins. Nice finesse. Drink now through 2010. |

BH 93 (10/2006): High-toned aromas of pinot and strawberry fruit that are still largely primary though there are now hints of secondary development that complement the medium weight flavors where the tannins are still buried. While this is not especially dense, particularly on the mid palate, it is stunningly elegant with exceptionally good length and in particular, simply beautiful balance. This can be approached now with pleasure though it should continue to improve for another 4 to 6 years. Drink: 2010+
WA 91-93 (8/1998): This dark-colored wine has malty black cherry scents and a broad-shouldered, masculine, highly-structured (verging on tannic) character. Its chewy texture offers loads of sweetened and creamed blackberries, violets, and earth. This wine coats the mouth with copious quantities of fine tannins that, in time, will easily be overcome by this impressive offering's dense fruit. Drink it between 2005 and 2010+.
WS 88 (9/1998): Rich and elegant, with raspberry flavors and a sinewy structure dominated by dry tannins. Best after 2005. |

Relatively big and rich for a Drouhin white yet there is no lack of ripe supporting acidity and this remains balanced and refined. WA 93-95 (4/1997): To no one's surprise, the Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche is Drouhin's finest 1995. Made entirely in 1st year oak (oak barrels that have been used once, not new oak), rich honeysuckle aromas burst from the glass with a touch of honeyed spice. The wine is extremely viscous and fat (my notes say: "wouldn't legally be considered a liquid") and has very ripe flavors of rich, toasted and roasted, lively fruits. This full-bodied, beautifully delineated wine exemplifies Montrachet, as it combines Batard's forward, sultry fruit and Chevalier's elegance and precision. Drink it between 2005-2012.
WS 93 (4/1997): Subtle and classy, this wine is supple with near-perfect balance and spice, ripe fruit, toasted bread and mineral flavors that linger for minutes on the great, racy finish. Full-bodied; try around 2005. |
