| VM 94 (2/2009): Good deep red. Knockout nose offers superb clarity and lift to the aromas of black raspberry, peppery spices, minerals, smoky herbs and blood orange. Wonderfully dense yet somehow weightless, showing Outstanding floral lift to its sappy, tangy raspberry, mocha and pepper flavors. This spreads out to saturate the palate on the gripping, very long finish. A wonderfully suave example of this grand cru. |

| BH 95 (4/2019): (from Chambolle fruit.) Here too the nose is quite restrained with its admirably pure aromas of red cherry, dark currant, spice and earth along with notes of violet and lavender. I very much like the sense of underlying tension to the succulent, indeed even juicy, medium weight plus flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the tautly muscular and firm finish that flashes just a hint of youthful austerity. This isn't quite as complex as the Chambertin but it's close and it may well close the gap over time as this is also very clearly structured for mid to even longer-term keeping. Drink 2035+. |

BH 95 (4/2020): (from Chambolle fruit.) Here the reserved nose is ripe yet cool with its layered combination of both red and dark berry fruit aromas that are also quite spicy. There is a bit less density to the middle weight flavors that compensate by being sleeker and more well-delineated on the beautifully textured, dusty, powerful and very serious finale. This is unapologetically built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least a decade first. Drink 2035+. WA 95+ (1/2020): Another of the highlights of the range is the 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, a striking wine that soars from the glass with notes of raspberries, red berries, rose petals, sweet spices, violets and forest floor. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with striking cut and definition, concluding with a long, mineral finish. This is an exquisitely refined Bonnes-Mares that is worth a special effort to seek out. |

| BH 95 (4/2021): (from Chambolle fruit). This too is quite aromatically cool and restrained with its combination of essence of red currant, cherry, lavender, soft spice elements and admirably subtle wood. The juicy and impressively concentrated flavors flash excellent intensity and focused power while displaying the same gorgeous texture as the Echezeaux, all wrapped in a hugely long, serious and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is beautifully refined, indeed while it may seem like an oxymoron given Bonnes Mares’ well-deserved reputation for power and muscle, this is more a wine of finesse. Even so, this should have no trouble aging and improving for close to 20 years. Drink 2036+. |

| BH 95 (3/2022): (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit). A cool, pretty and quite floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of red currant, plum, earth and a hint of just sliced fennel. The sleek, tautly muscular and enveloping big-bodied flavors exude a lovely tension that is also present on the dusty, serious, very compact and clearly built-to-age finale. This excellent effort should amply repay extended cellaring. Drink 2035+. |

| BH 94 (4/2023): A much more floral nose blends notes of dark currant, anise and a similar smoked meat component. The notably finer, indeed almost delicate, flavors possess deceptive density while delivering outstanding length on the balanced, firm and already nicely complex finale. Lovely and a wine that epitomizes 'power without weight'. |

BH 95 (4/2025): (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit). A slightly riper though still appealingly fresh nose combines notes of red and black cherry along with spice hints and a background suggestion of kirsch. There is a lovely sense of delicacy and refinement to the reasonably concentrated flavors that possess a gorgeous acid/fruit/tannin balance on the hugely long finale where a touch of wood slowly emerges. This is not what I would describe as a classic Bonnes Mares but it is nonetheless a gorgeous wine, indeed calling it a Bonnes Mares of finesse would be apt. Drink 2035+. JM 94-96 (10/2024): A crimson ruby. A little wilder than the Chambertin duo, a little plummier, softly ripe raspberries, a range of interesting complex aromatics. Builds fascinatingly on the palate, possibly a higher pH but thoroughly rewarding, with a complex texture as well, multi-layered, and very long. Drink from 2032-2040. |

VM 90 (3/2015): Bright, dark red. Sweet red berries, nutty oak and subtle soil tones on the nose. Fat, sweet and spicy, showing good fullness for village wine. Savory, serious Volnay with good vinosity and density and a saline complexity. Finishes with broad, building, ripe tannins and good savory persistence. Antonio Galloni. BH 88 (4/2014): (Entirely from 5 different 1ers). An earthy and distinctly ripe nose of cassis, plum and soft floral aromas gives way to equally earthy middle weight flavors where once again the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. The finale is firm without being rustic though there is enough youthful austerity to notice. This should reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2018+. |

| BH 90 (4/2018): A discreet application of wood sets off a more deeply pitched nose of plum, dark cherry, spice and soft earth. This is an excellent Volnay villages and worthy of your interest. Drink 2023+. Outstanding! |

| BH 90 (4/2022): (from the 1er Clos de la Rougeotte.) A slightly more elegant and decidedly spicier nose freely reveals notes of red and dark raspberry along with pretty floral nuances. There is both very good vibrancy and delineation to the appealing textured flavors thanks to the fine-grained tannins supporting the youthfully austere and impressively long finale. While this is really a 1er everywhere except the label, it nonetheless delivers excellent quality in the context of its appellation. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |

BH 94 (4/2012): (from a .60 ha parcel). This is also notably restrained but ultra-elegant with a layered nose of pure extract of red and black pinot fruit, spice and wet stone notes. The intensely mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess excellent definition on the strikingly complex and beautifully balanced finish. This classy and graceful effort evidences a slightly saline nuance that serves to accentuate the stony character of this stunning effort. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! VM 93-96 (2/2012): Good deep red. Tight nose hints at black cherry and smoky, rocky, silex-like minerality. Very ripe, fat and sweet, with Outstanding richness and depth to the black cherry, raspberry and minerals flavors. Wonderfully round, silky, full Volnay with noble tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. Builds slowly and steadily on the back, saturating the palate with subtle fruit, mineral and earth flavors. These vines were picked at the beginning of October. A great Volnay in the making. WA 93-95 (2/2012): The 2010 Volnay Les Caillerets impresses for its length and sheer persistence. All of the elements are beautifully woven together in this tightly grained, firm Volnay. Sweet flowers, mint and spices add complexity as the flavors build to the nuanced finish. This is a beautifully integrated wine with all of the elements in the right place. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. |

BH 94 (4/2013): (from a .60 ha parcel). In contrast to the jovial expressiveness of the prior wines this is much more reserved with its ripe yet cool aromas of dark berry fruit liqueur, spice and wet stone. The silky and equally cool and restrained middle weight flavors offer Outstanding definition on the rich, energetic and hugely long saline-infused finish. This is one seriously impressive Caillerets but note well that it’s built to age. Drink 2023+. VM 93+ (3/2014): Bright, dark red. Ripe, deep, multifaceted nose offers black cherry, raspberry, licorice, earth, gunflint and smoky minerality. Much denser than the Chevrets, showing terrific concentration and balance to its dark fruit, mineral and spice flavors. Finishes spicy, chewy and very long, with serious fine-grained tannins and sexy hints of pepper and herbs. Really perfectly integrated acidity here. This was a knockout from barrel a year ago and has been bottled with its tightly coiled spring intact. |

BH 93 (4/2020): An equally ripe nose speaks of cassis, black raspberry, spiced tea and similar floral whiffs. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is classy and sophisticated thanks to the super-fine-grained tannins shaping the lacy, lilting and strikingly long finish. This is excellent and very much worth your interest. Drink 2030+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 94 (1/2020): Invariably a highlight of the portfolio, Boillot's 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets derives from a low-yielding 60-are parcel of 55-year-old vines. Unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums, raw cocoa and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its concentrated core of vibrant fruit underlined by succulent acids and framed by chalky tannins. This is a brilliant wine that's worth a special effort to seek out. |

WA 93 (1/2020): The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets exhibits lovely aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with orange rind, spice and raw cocoa. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and fine-boned, from more calcium-rich soils than Les Chevrets and built around bright acids and fine, chalky tannins. BH 91 (4/2020): A restrained if clearly ripe nose is comprised by notes of cassis, black cherry, violet and pretty rose petal hints. The sleeker and more refined is perhaps not quite as concentrated flavors also possess a seductive texture and even more minerality, all wrapped in a mildly warm and youthfully austere finale that is slightly firmer. This too is lovely. Drink 2028+. Outstanding! |

This is perhaps a bit finer than it usually is with solid development potential. Drink 2031+. JM 90-93 (10/2024): Frémiets, the limestone radiator, says Henri. Picked in good time, as the perfume of ripe raspberry with a little soft strawberry indicates. BH 93 (1/2023): A slightly riper though almost as elegant nose combines notes of petrol and citrus with those of acacia, mineral reduction and crushed fennel. There is more volume and richness to the less prominently stony flavors that possess a highly seductive mouthfeel, all wrapped in a superbly long finish. This isn't quite as refined as the Genevrières but it's even more complex. I would observe that while the two wines are qualitative equals, they offer two very different expressions. (Drink starting 2029). JM 93-95 (10/2022): The terroir is made up of small stones in red soil, quite similar to Caillerets. Clean pretty pale primrose, with a brilliant tensile concentration through the middle, not very Meursault this terroir but extremely persistent and makes Genevrières alongside seem a bit massive. Very impressive in its linear style. Drink from 2026-2032. |

WA 94 (1/2020): Boillot's 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles reveals aromas of orange oil, white flowers and peaches, complemented by classy top notes of nutmeg and warm bread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with quite a tensile, tight-knit core for this typically enveloping premier cru. But looking back through my notes, that often seems to be the case chez Boillot. BH 92 (6/2020): Here too there is a touch of residual SO2 that may require decanting so that the elegant aromas of honeysuckle, acacia, lilac and poached pear aromas can be appreciated. There is a bit more volume if not quite the same minerality and precision to the beautifully textured flavors that are quite seductive before concluding in a delicious if mildly sweet and warm finish. This is lovely but doesn't possess the class and distinction of the Perrières or Clos de la Mouchère. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |
