BH 93 (1/2010): A very high-toned, airy and layered nose of red berry fruit and distinct floral notes, particularly dried red and white rose petal with a touch of lavender, slides gracefully into pure, intense, rich, full and focused middle weight flavors that possess excellent power and punch with ample minerality on the wonderfully long and moderately austere finish. This is an Outstanding effort in the context of the vintage. Drink 2019+. VM 91-94 (4/2009): Bright, deep red. Aromas of raspberry liqueur, blueberry, menthol and musky herbs. Rich, chewy and dry; comes across as quite austere after the last couple of grand crus. But then Jeremy Seysses finds this quality to be reassuring in the context of 2007. "I'm drawn to austerity in this vintage," he told me, adding that he plans to lay down magnums of this wine in his personal cellar, along with the Clos de la Roche and Echezeaux. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent thrust. |

BH 92 (1/2020): An exceptionally pretty and, similar to the Malconsorts, somewhat sweet nose combines notes of lavender, rose petal, violet, red currant and a whiff of orange pekoe tea. There is good if not special mid-palate density to the overtly intense flavors that terminate in a dusty, austere and reasonably powerful finish where the tannins are a bit spiky. My sense is though that with a few years of age they will round off and render the finish more harmonious. Drink 2029+. |

VM 89-91 (1/2018): Good dark red. More musky and bound-up on the nose than the Morey-Saint-Denis villages, offering slightly rustic scents of mocha and game. The element of animal reduction carries through on the fine-grained palate, where the wine's inner-mouth energy comes as a surprise. Finishes with a firm spine of chewy tannins. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 87-89 (1/2019): An exceptionally fresh and very pretty nose offers up notes of both red and blue pinot fruit, lavender and a trace of spice nuances. The supple, lacy and seductively textured middle weight flavors flash a touch of minerality before culminating in a dusty finish where a hint of bitter pit fruit character surfaces. I like the balance and this should drink well early but age over the mid-term too. |

BH 91-93 (1/2012): A densely fruited nose of considerable elegance and excellent freshness offers up notes of black raspberry liqueur, violet, plum and stone. The mid-palate is extremely rich with the same Outstanding density of the nose as the amount of dry extract imparts a velvety texture to the balanced and impressively persistent finish. This is a relatively large-scaled Chambolle 1er and recommended. Outstanding! Drink: 2022+ VM 90-93 (2/2012): Red-ruby. Black cherry, dark chocolate and sexy spices on the very ripe nose. Lush and seamless wine with dark raspberry, earth and mocha flavors lifted by a hint of blood orange. Powerful rather than gentle Chambolle with a youthfully imploded character. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent length. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers is gorgeous. Dark cherries, flowers, spices and graphite are some of the notes that flesh out in this generous, juicy Chambolle. The balance of fruit and mineral cut is very attractive. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. |

|
BH 89 (5/2007): A surprisingly reserved and inexpressive nose of reluctant sous bois, earth and leather notes introduces nicely rich and detailed middle weight flavors that are delicious if not quite delivering the depth and power that one typically associates with this wine, all wrapped in a moderately long but also slightly stemmy finish. To be sure, this is a fine effort, just not a great one. I would be drinking up sooner than later as the finish risks drying out with extended age. |

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru |

|
BH 93 (10/2001): This is a wine that I have enjoyed many times and it is one of those rare grands crus that has shown magnificently from day one and has never missed a beat since. Earthy yet exquisitely complex nose showing more than a trace of secondary aromas. The flavor profile is deep and broad with sap, wet earth, iron, minerals and a pure, intense, terrifically long finish. An Outstanding Clos de la Roche that is enjoyable now though it will continue to hold for many years. Drink 2001-2012. WA 89 (8/1995): The light to medium ruby-colored Clos de la Roche offers an earthy, mineral, and sweet berry fruit-scented nose. What follows is a wine of moderate constitution, undeniable elegance, and graceful Pinot fruit. Some hard tannin is noticeable in the finish, but it is not cause for concern. This wine should age gracefully for a decade or more, offering complex aromatics, and sweet, gamey Pinot fruit in a medium-bodied format. |

BH 91-94 (1/2010): Unfortunately, relatively strong reduction obliterates all but wisps of red berry fruit but the transparency is much better on the detailed, robust and firmly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that are presently very backward, serious and superbly long. The supporting tannins are quite prominent but the overall impression is a well-balanced effort will require plenty of cellar time to realize its full, and considerable potential. Drink 2021+. |

BH 93-95 (1/2013): A deft touch of wood frames an intensely earthy, complex and notably ripe nose that features notes of spice, plum and black currant. There is excellent richness, size, weight and muscle to the vibrant middle weight plus flavors that exude a fine extract on the mineral-driven finish that offers extraordinarily good length. This is primary to the point of being quite backward yet it is not hard or aggressive as the balance of structural elements is impeccable. Drink 2023+. VM 92-94 (2/2013): Good medium red. Briary, smoky dark raspberry, minerals and flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of horseradish. Rich, dry and suave but youthfully closed, with pepper and spice notes running through to the firm aftertaste. This will be sweetened and opened up by a racking, but Seysses only planned to do this prior to the bottling. He admits that it's currently "angry"; it's certainly tricky to taste today. |

BH 91-94 (1/2020): This is the first wine to display any appreciable wood and menthol characters and here it's not subtle though to be clear, it doesn't dominate the very ripe liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, cassis, floral and plenty of sauvage nuances. The sleekly textured and impressively intense large-scaled flavors possess evident power on the dusty, serious and palate coating finish that is definitely quite grippy and a bit coarse but the supporting tannins seem to be mature. I like the overall fruit/tannin/sap balance and while it will take extended bottle age, this should eventually come together. Drink 2038+. |

BH 92 (3/2008): This remains almost completely primary with only a trace of initial maturity creeping in on the explosion of black fruits that display spice and earth nuances that merge into relatively supple yet intense, mouth coating and long medium weight plus flavors that are supported by still firm but ripe and integrated tannins on the impressive long finish. As it usually is, this is an elegant wine chez Dujac and given the relatively lazy evolution to this point, the magnum format is going to require ample time to arrive at full maturity. Try from 2014+. VM 91 (3/2002): Good deep red. Cool, vibrant aromas of blueberry, cassis, strawberry, espresso and bitter chocolate. Lush in texture but with excellent structure. Distinctly less evolved than the Dujac premier crus, with a minty nuance. Seysses says this has been putting on weight in bottle. I find this clearly stronger than the 2000 version. Stephen Tanzer WA 89-91 (8/2001): Ruby-colored, the 1999 Clos St.-Denis exhibits earthy, blackberry aromas. Medium-bodied and satin-textured, this is a firm, stony, black fruit and oak-influenced wine. It has Outstanding concentration, balance, and harmony. Drink it over the next 10 years. |

BH 92-94 (1/2010): In contrast to the funky nose of the Clos de la Roche, here the cool and elegant nose is quite pure with notes of warm earth, red current and blue pinot fruit that merge seamlessly into sappy, naturally sweet and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess Outstanding length and the exact creates a velvety mouth feel. This is a very distinguished '08 as it has both style and class. Drink 2018+. |

VM 94+ (3/2016): Full, dark red. Captivating rose petal lift to the aromas of red fruits, iron and minerals; less earthy and more ethereal than the Clos de la Roche. Also juicier and tighter in the mouth, showing less early sweetness but terrific acid spine and lift to the sappy flavors of raspberry and salty minerals. This wine has really put on weight since its bottling, noted Diane Snowden. But it still boasts terrific cut and inner-mouth tension. Lay this one down. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (1/2010): From the sub-climat Champs Traversin. WA 92-95 (5/2011): The 2009 Echezeaux (from one of the cooler sites in the vineyard) hovers on the palate in a weightless expression of grace and class. It is impeccably refined from start to finish, with delicate layers of white flowers and sweet spices that add complexity and nuance to the fruit. The wine’s gorgeous inner fragrance and impossibly fine tannins are first-rate. This is another dazzling wine from Dujac. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. BH 92-94 (1/2011): (from the climat Champs Traversin). An intensely floral, spicy, earthy and ripe nose offers up a densely fruited mix of black pinot fruit, black cherry and cassis aromas. The big-bodied flavors are exceptionally cool and fresh yet the tannins are fully mature as they support and shape the restrained, minerally and impressively persistent finish. Like the Malconsorts, this will require at least 15 years to arrive at its peak. Drink 2024+. VM 91-93 (2/2011): Good deep red-ruby color. Musky black cherry, black raspberry, chocolate and underbrush on the nose. Then higher-pitched on the palate than the nose would suggest, cool and filigree in style, with limited fat (this is the lowest in alcohol of the Dujac grand crus at 12.6%). Slight gamey complexity. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and a light touch. |

BH 92-94 (1/2013): A discreet touch of wood sets off the spicy black cherry, cassis and floral aromas that slide gracefully into rich, generous and opulent large-scaled flavors that display both excellent volume and fine phenolic maturity of the structural items, all wrapped in a mouth coating finish. This is every bit as long as the Malconsorts but not quite as deep. That said, there is an abundance of dry extract here and it could match it in time. Drink 2023+. VM 92-94 (2/2013): Good full red. Red fruits, pepper, stone, spices and a pungent note of sandalwood on the nose. Intensely flavored and stylish, offering a good tight core of dark fruit flavor, enticing sweetness andserious spine. The wine's tight tannins will need time to expand during the last months of elevage and in the bottle. Terrific potential. |

BH 92 (1/2023): Somewhat surprisingly the nose is quite reserved with its brooding array of very ripe dark berries, cassis, violet, lavender and a whisper of herbal tea. The succulent and exceptionally rich, even opulent, flavors also coat the palate with an abundance of sap that does a quality job of buffering the markedly firm tannic spine shaping the beautifully persistent finale. This is more robust than usual but a wine that should repay extended cellaring. |

BH 89 (1/2018): (from Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes.) A ripe but fresh nose combines both red currant and floral-suffused aromas with those of lavender, earth and a hint of oak. There is good intensity and freshness to the relatively robust middle weight flavors that possess fine delineation before culminating in a youthfully austere, dusty and mouth coating finale where a hint of warmth appears. A quality villages and worth a look. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

BH 89 (1/2020): A very pretty nose evidences plenty of floral character with a cool essence of red currant, cherry and soft wood nuances. There is good volume and punch to the attractively textured flavors that possess a rounded mouthfeel while offering solid depth and persistence where a touch of austerity arises. This is a quality Morey villages. Drink 2024+. |

BH 88-91 (1/2023): Here too there is enough reduction to push the fruit to the background. Otherwise, there is a slightly more volume to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that possess both lovely delineation and purity, all wrapped in a lingering and mildly austere finale. This energetic effort could use better depth but that should reasonably develop in time. VM 90-92 (1/2023): The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Village shows the stem addition slightly more conspicuously than the Chambolle-Village, white pepper and touches of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, lightly peppered black fruit with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate towards the finish. This gains complexity in the glass. Promising - quintessential Dujac. Neal Martin. WA 89-91 (1/2023): Aromas of dark berries, spices, vine smoke, baking chocolate and pine resin introduce the 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, a medium to full-bodied, supple and charming wine that's bright and perfumed, concluding with a rose-inflected finish. |

BH 87-89 (1/2009): An expressive and high-toned red pinot fruit nose that has undertones of ripe floral notes and a bit of earth that can also be found on the minerally, intense and balanced flavors that seem to be made of pure raspberry extract, all wrapped in a finish that isn't especially dense but is delicious and mouth coating. Drink 2014+. VM 87-89 (4/2009): Moderately saturated medium red. Quite closed on the nose. Nicely concentrated but not yet particularly expressive in the mouth, hinting at red fruits and spaces. Finishes a bit dusty. Hard to taste today and less presentable than the village version. |

BH 91 (1/2014): (the blend is <70% Ruchots with the balance in Clos Sorbe and Charrières; there is no Millandes in the blend in 2011) A perfumed and attractively airy nose features notes of floral and spice on the various red berry fruit aromas. There is lovely purity and intensity to the medium-bodied flavors that possess an appealing mouth feel before terminating in a dry, clean and mildly austere finish that delivers superior depth and length. BH 92-94 (1/2013): (from a 1.57 ha parcel). Somewhat surprisingly given the usual Malconsorts trait of being quite inexpressive young, this is even spicier than the Beaux Monts with its slightly riper and darker fruit profile. On the other hand, as would be expected this is notably bigger, richer and more concentrated with an opulent mid-palate to the markedly muscular full-bodied flavors that possess impressive amounts of structure-buffering dry extract on the strikingly long finish. This is quite firm without being hard and this will need at least 15 years to arrive at its peak. Drink 2026+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 90 (8/2013): The 2011 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts was also raised in 75% new oak and picked around the same time as the Beaumonts. The nose is more sensual than the Beaumonts with lifted red cherry and strawberry fruit, with oyster shell scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy opening. This is another masculine 2011 from Dujac with a rigid backbone and an almost surly finish that will hopefully lighten up during continued bottle age. Drink 2016-2024. |

WA 93-95 (12/2015): The 2014 Vosne-Romanee 1Er Cru Malconsorts is more opulent and generous on the nose compared to the Beaumonts with blueberry and black cherry fruit, more red plum and strawberry notes evolving with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a gentle grip in the mouth, the whole bunch fruit lending freshness and subtle sous-bois character on the finish. There is a little new wood to be subsumed on the finish, but it has great potential and represents one of the best Malconsorts you will find this year. VM 92-94 (1/2016): Deep, bright red. Soil-driven aromas of raspberry, blackberry, blood orange and iodiney minerality, with a complementary element of sexy oak. Juicy and intense but still youthfully imploded; totally different in grain and texture from the more pliant Beaux Monts. Finishes with terrific sappy energy and serious tannic spine. This will need a minimum of seven or eight years of cellaring. BH 92-94 (1/2016): ( from a 1.57 ha parcel.) The intensely floral-suffused nose is not quite as spicy as that of the Beaux Monts but it is arguably even more complex with its layered aromas of red and dark currant, sandalwood and lilac nuances. There is Outstanding power and punch to the beautifully delineated broad-shouldered flavors that possess a beguiling texture on the complex, balanced and driving mineral-inflected finale. This is terrific but plenty of patience will be required as I suspect that this will close down once it's bottled. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |

VM 92-95 (2/2012): Good deep red. Reduced nose hints at minerals and bitter chocolate; rather mute today. Then suave, concentrated and seamless in the mouth, with rather imploded but sharply focused flavors of black cherry, minerals and smoke. This rather Bonnes-Mares-like wine finishes dense and very long, with notes of raspberry and crushed stone. Jeremy Seysses describes its minerality as "athletic." BH 91-94 (1/2012): Very mild reduction doesn't completely hide the intrinsic Vosne spice notes that also suffuse the intense mineral and beautifully refined and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess both lovely delineation as well as that beguiling sense of underlying tension on the classy, cool and impeccably well-balanced finish. This is a classic Beaux Monts that should drink well young yet require at least 12 years to reach its full potential. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink: 2022+ WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux-Monts wraps around the palate with gorgeous fleshiness. Exotic, deeply pitched spices meld into dark fruit and crushed rocks. I especially like the way the wine fleshes out on the mid-palate. A textured, caressing finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. |

BH 91 (1/2016): Here there is a completely different aromatic profile with markedly more spice elements present that add breadth and a certain elegance to the primarily red and black pinot fruit nose though there are background hints of Asian-style tea, violet and lilac. I like the mouth feel to the well-delineated, intense and mineral-driven medium weight flavors that possess a saline character on the solidly complex and well-balanced if mildly austere finale. This is more forward than usual and should be mature, or close to it, after only 7 to 10 years. Drink 2021+. Outstandijng! |

WA 92-94 (12/2015): The 2014 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru les Beaux Monts has a very attractive bouquet, pure and sensual with black cherries, boysenberry and a touch of blueberry. Understated but quite compelling. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, silky in texture, beautifully balanced with very well judged acidity with a touch of salinity towards the finish. This is a very well crafted Beaumonts that deserves several years in bottle. VM 91-94 (1/2016): Bright red-ruby. Very pure aromas of raspberry, red licorice and smoky minerals, plus a hint of animal fur. Plush, rich and fine-grained, offering a silky, spherical texture to its expressive flavors of raspberry, smoke, minerals, game and mocha. Finishes with broad, building tannins and terrific persistence. BH 81-94 (1/2016): A strikingly spicy array of very fresh dark berry fruit, violet, lavender and anise is also trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is more volume and mid-palate concentration to the caressing and mouth coating flavors that display ample minerality on the balanced, deep and impressively long finale. This isn't quite as intense as the Combottes but it is more concentrate. Drink 2024+. Outstanding! |
