VM 91 (1/2018): (the yield here was about 33 hectoliters per hectare, vs. an estate-wide average of 28 in 2015): Bright ruby-red. Subtle scents of boysenberry, blackberry, bitter chocolate and anise. Concentrated, tactile Beaune premier cru with layered dark berry flavors and lovely integrated sweetness. This very fine-grained, harmonious wine finishes with sweet dark fruits and suave tannins. This wine showed good power but a slight rusticity from barrel a year ago; it's more classy in its finished form. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 90 (4/2018): A very ripe nose of stewed plum, spice and wood leads lavishly rich, concentrated and mouth coating full-bodied flavors that are also quite generously proportioned. The ample amounts of dry extract impart a velvety, even opulent palate impression that also buffers the medium firm tannins on the slightly warm finish. Drink 2025+. |

BH 90 (4/2008): A beautiful nose of red, blue and black pinot fruit plus hints of violets leads to complex, pure, round and sweet flavors that display plenty of pungent Savigny earth plus a touch of the sauvage on the robust, firmly structured and ever-so-slightly rustic finish. Lovely and very Savigny in underlying character in a style that is clearly built to age. Outstanding! Drink: 2013+
WA 87-89+ (6/2007): The Morot 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Vergelesses La Bataillere offers attractively ripe black currant and black raspberry aromas with notes of birch beer and chocolate impinging on the palate. Solid and substantial in feel, it finishes with black fruit and peat, but is a bit drying, probably a function of its having just been sulfured and assembled for bottling.
VM 86-88 (4/2008): Dark red-ruby. Slightly rustic, spicy aromas of redcurrant and leather. Juicy and lean, with good cut to the red fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Good firm wine, if a bit dry on the end. |
