WA 87 (4/2006): A dark ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of cassis, herbs, and underbrush in this spicy, moderately oaky Pauillac. Bitter tannins in the finish make a final judgment somewhat cautionary. Two to three years of cellaring may be beneficial, but whether the fruit or the tannin will last the longest remains questionable. Proceed with caution.
VM 84-87 (6/2004): Full, deep red. Musky aromas of redcurrant and game, with a slightly stewed quality. Then moderately ripe in the mouth, but lacking in fat and sweetness. I don't find a lot of mid-palate material here. And yet the tannins are nicely buffered. |

VM 93-95 (5/2021): The 2020 Haut-Bages Liberal is a powerhouse in its first impression. Veins of bright mineral notes give the 2020 its textural feel and persistence. Bright red fruit, cedar, dried flowers, mint, spice and sweet tobacco. Time in the glass brings out very pretty floral notes that add finesse and considerable aromatic presence. Antonio Galloni.
JS 95-96 (4/2021): Unique character to this with mushroom, wet-earth, spice, and black-tea character on the nose and palate. It’s full and layered with chewy tannins that are plush and pure. Rose-bush and bark undertones to the fruit. Old merlot vines showing through! 72% cabernet sauvignon and 28% merlot. From biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter certification. |
