| WA 96 (9/2017): Blended of 89% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and 3% Viognier using 54% whole cluster and spending around 22 months in French oak (60% new), the 2014 No 3 has a deep purple-black color and nose of blueberry preserves, spiced black berries and cassis with hints of mocha, tilled soil and roasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied, the plush, velvety tannins nicely frame the generous fruit, with great freshness and a good long, spicy finish. 450 cases were made. |

| VM 95 (3/2018): Buccella's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a total knock-out. In fact, the 2014 is one of the best – possibly the best – wine I have ever tasted from Buccella. Deep, ripe and intense, with striking persistence, the 2014 is delineated, precise and complete. There is plenty of the textural richness that is such a Buccella signature, but the 2014 has an extra degree of energy that balances things out. Hints of bittersweet chocolate, lavender, red cherry jam and exotic spice infuse the vibrant, sculpted finish. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (6/2011): Caymus has been around for so long there is a tendency to under-estimate their wines. However, they have a brilliant track record as evidenced by the decade old 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection. Abundant chocolaty, black currant, licorice and coffee aromas soar from the glass of this perfumed wine. It exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, wonderful opulence, a deep, full-bodied mouthfeel, fabulous depth and not a hard edge to be found. While seemingly fully mature, the supple tannins, expansive fruit and glycerin, depth and overall balance suggest it will keep for another 15+ years.
WS 95 (6/2004): Lots of aromatic complexity, with ripe plum, blackberry, mineral, slate and cedary oak flavors that are rich and concentrated, with ripe, polished tannins and a long, full-bodied finish that echoes mocha and berry flavors. Keeps revealing vivid and thick flavor nuances. Another amazing Caymus Special Selection. Best from 2005 through 2013. |

WS 91 (11/2006): Firm, intense and vibrant, with tight, structured red currant, anise, black cherry and mineral notes. Hints of herb, cedar and sage fold in on the finish, keeping a tight, persistent focus. Finishes with tannins that are wrapped in fruit and mineral notes. Best from 2007 through 2011. 800 cases made.
VM 90 (6/2006): Bright medium ruby. Bold aromas of blueberry liqueur, black raspberry, menthol, minerals and black olive. Offers concentrated, sweet dark fruit flavors but not quite the lush texture of the 2004. Dominant flavor of raspberry. The lingering finish shows substantial, slightly tough but nicely ripe tannins. This has filled out nicely since I sampled it from barrel a year ago. Incidentally, just prior to my visit Philippe Melka was hired as consulting winemaker here.
WA 88 (6/2013): I believe this 2003 was made during a period when much of the vineyard was being replanted. From the famous red soils in the Oakville Corridor on the eastern hillsides overlooking such great addresses as Rudd Estate and Screaming Eagle, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a classic, earthy, creme de cassis-scented nose, but it seems more narrowly constructed and clipped in texture than usual. Nevertheless, there is still plenty to enjoy, including the dark fruits, earthiness and the medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. Given the lofty expectations due to the greatness of so many Dalla Valle vintages, the 2003 is not one of their most noteworthy efforts. Drink it over the next decade. |

JS 97 (1/2016): This is the best Onda ever. Subtle and perfumed aromas of blackberry, sage, and bramble berry. Plummy. Full-bodied, chewy yet velvety and polished. Layered and delicious. Pretty balance and length. Savory and salty. White pepper too. Wonderful finish. A blend of wines from all the vineyards of Dana with a majority from Crystal Spring and Hershey. So much precision here. Drink or hold. 987 cases.
WA 92 (10/2015): There are three vineyard sites, and the wine they cull out of those vineyards is the least expensive blend, Onda. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Onda, which is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot, sees less new oak than its stablemates. The wine is opaque purple with a beautiful, structured nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit and charcoal, followed by a medium to full-bodied opulence and richness. This is a beauty that should drink well for at least several decades. |

| WA 98 (10/2016): The 2014 Amoenus comes from a western hillside vineyard near Calistoga that is actually cooler than the general area. This wine always exhibits plenty of crushed rock, wet gravel minerality, notes of forest floor, spring flowers and copious quantities of blackberry and crème de cassis with a hint of lead pencil shavings and pen ink. The 2014 is dense and full-bodied, but with low acidity and ripe well-integrated tannin. It is strutting its stuff, however it should be even better with 5-7 years of bottle age and last 25-30 years. They produce 330 cases of this glorious wine that tips the scales at 14.7% natural alcohol. |

| WA 98 (10/2018): One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon with a deep purple-black color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Empyrean rolls sensuously out of the glass like Cleopatra from her carpet, revealing incredibly alluring kirsch, Black Forest cake, warm blackcurrants and black raspberry scents with compelling suggestions of cinnamon stick, rose hip tea, cloves and forest floor plus a hint of pencil shavings. The full-bodied black fruit layers dance suggestively on the palate with lots of floral and red fruit sparks and a velvety frame, finishing long and spicy. |

WA 96 (10/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard (75% new French oak and 14.6% alcohol) has an inky purple color, loads of crème de cassis, blueberry and vanillin with graphite and licorice. It is full-bodied, exhibits terrific texture, low acidity and sweet, round tannin. This is a full-bodied classic that is delicious already, but promises to develop more nuances over the next decade and last for 20-25 years.
VM 94 (12/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard is a beautiful wine from this St. Helena vineyard. Dark cherry, plum mocha, menthol and dark spices build nicely as this creamy, voluptuous Cabernet shows off its personality. This is a distinctly brooding, virile expression of Cabernet from this site. Herb, tobacco, chocolate and graphite overtones add the closing nuances. This is a gorgeous wine and a fabulous addition to the range. Antonio Galloni. |

Full-bodied, powerful, and structured on the palate, this is an elegant, tight, closed Scarecrow that's going to need 4-5 years of bottle age. It's going to age beautifully, though.
WA 97 (10/2019): Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Scarecrow opens with notions of warm cassis, baked plums, black raspberries and boysenberries with accents of dried mint, pencil shavings and fragrant soil plus a waft of cast iron pan. Full-bodied, firm and grainy, it has a solid backbone of fantastically ripe tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.

JD 100 (1/2021): Pure perfection in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Scarecrow’s 2018 reveals a dense purple hue as well as an incredible bouquet of pure crème de cassis, toasted spices, chocolate, darker currants, and graphite. This carries to a full-bodied, dense, off-the-charts sexy 2018 that has the vintage’s purity and freshness backed up by flawless balance, a layered mouthfeel, and building yet elegant tannins. This cuvee is hard to resist given its texture and wealth of fruit, but it will ideally be given 3-5 years and should evolve for 30 years or more.
WA 98 (11/2020): Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Scarecrow is deep garnet-purple in color, slipping slowly, measuredly out of the glass with sensuous notes of blackberry pie, blackcurrant pastilles and Morello cherries, leading to hints of raspberry leaves, oolong tea, cardamom and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of energy, delivering vivacious, mineral-sparked black fruit preserves flavors with a firm, grainy texture and a refreshing lift on the long, long finish. Simply gorgeous!
VM 97 (1/2021): The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon shows why this Rutherford site is so highly regarded. A Cabernet of pedigree and stature, the 2018 Scarecrow makes a strong opening statement. Seemingly endless waves of fruit completely bury the tannins. A bit of coaxing releases an exotic melange of gravel, spice, smoke, grilled herb and licorice nuances that meld into the super-concentrated dark fruit. This is another stellar effort by the team led by winemaker Celia Welch and vineyard manager Mike Wolf. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 89 (12/2005): The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot) possesses a sweet, jammy bouquet of black currants intermixed with barbecue smoke, tobacco, espresso, and herbs. It offers a sexy, fleshy entry, but falls off at the back of the palate. Although heady, with plenty of superficial, up-front fruit, there is not much substance or follow through on the palate. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
WS 89 (5/2008): Complex, with a mix of creamy vanilla-tinged oak, dried currant, herb, pencil lead and sage notes that are tight and tannic, ending with a mineral and pebble aftertaste. Well-balanced. Drink now through 2014. 33,400 cases made. |
