| WA 92 (8/2019): High-toned aromas of cherries, raspberries and spices introduce the 2018 Chiroubles , a medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy wine with ripe acids and a rich core of fruit. It derives from steep parcels that have to be worked by hand. |

WA 95 (9/2018): The superb 2017 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières wafts from the glass with a kaleidoscopic bouquet of black cherries, wild blueberries, licorice and dried rose petals. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, with striking concentration and depth, structured around finer, more elegant tannins than the regular Côte du Py bottling. The finish is incredibly long. VM 93 (10/2019): Brilliant violet. Deep-pitched blackberry, cherry preserve, cola and licorice scents, along with suggestions of star anise, smoky minerals and candied flowers. Shows impressive concentration and breadth on the palate, offering bitter cherry and dark berry liqueur flavors that turn sweeter as the wine opens up. Chewy tannins shape the finish, which lingers with superb, dark-fruit-dominated persistence and resonating florality. (Drink between 2022-2029). Josh Raynolds. |

| WA 95 (8/2019): Desvignes's 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is superb, bursting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of violets, raspberries, dark chocolate and smoky blackberries. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a deep and multidimensional core, succulent acids and powdery tannins. Beautifully balanced and structurally refined despite its power and concentration, this is worth a special effort to seek out. |

| WA 94+ (8/2021): The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with aromas of wild berries, spices, rose petals, loamy soil and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with impressive reserves of ripe tannin and sapid fruit, it's seamless and lively, concluding with a long, resonant finish. As ever, this is built to age, and it will reward patience, even if its youthful charms are considerable. |

WA 95 (9/2018): The 2016 Morgon Côte du Py is strikingly good, one of the best renditions of this benchmark cuvée in the last decade—in fact, I’ve already consumed the better part of a case. The wine bursts from the glass with a striking bouquet of rose petals, wild berries, dark chocolate and candied violets that’s beautifully projected and defined. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with an ample core of juicy fruit, melting tannins and a long, stony finish. VM 95 (3/2018): Lurid ruby. An expansive, mineral-accented bouquet displays powerful red and dark berry, incense and potpourri qualities, and a Moroccan spice nuance adds urgency and lift. Bright, seamless and alluringly sweet, offering palate-staining black raspberry, blueberry, violet pastille and spicecake flavors that slowly firm up with aeration. Shows superb depth and clarity, with nary a rough edge to be found. Closes supple, sweet and insanely long, leaving a sexy floral note behind. (Drink between 2021-2029). Josh Raynolds. |

| VM 93 (5/2023): The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py, matured in used barrels, has a more complex bouquet than the Corcelette: a melange of red and black fruit, potpourri/lavender, and a faint hint of curry leaf that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and a fine backbone considering the growing season. This is very fresh and saline with quite a strict finish. You could attempt this now though I would be intrigued to age this for another two or three years before broaching. Neal Martin. |

| VM 95 (8/2021): Vibrant ruby. Highly perfumed, smoke- and mineral-accented cherry liqueur, blackberry, candied licorice and cracked pepper scents show superb clarity and a hint of violet. The mineral and floral notes drive a strikingly long, penetrating finish that features resonating cherry, floral and mineral notes. (Drink between 2025-2035.) Josh Raynolds. |

| WA 93+ (8/2010): Marcel and Mathieu Lapierre showed me a March bottling of 2009 Morgon, although a portion of that same lot – destined to appear in U.S. markets – will remain in cask until September. Exuberant strawberry and red raspberry in confitured and distilled form are threaded with lilac inner-mouth floral perfume, striking notes of blood orange rind, nutmeg, toasted pecan, blond tobacco, and subtle hints of game and forest floor. Silken in texture, sappy and pungent, this finishes with an exhilaratingly animated exchange of fruit, flower, and mineral elements and a sense of levity rare for its vintage. It will be worth following for at least 6-8 years, though one ought only to cellar Lapierre’s low-sulfur wines if one’s conditions are optimum. If there has been a finer example of this wine, I can’t recall – and the September bottling will probably prove superior, hence the “+?” in my rating. |

| WA 93 (8/2016): The 2015 Morgon has a clean and vibrant bouquet with perfumed dark cherries, redcurrant, a touch of gravel and touches of rose petal. The palate is nicely structured, brimming over with energy. The acidity is very well judged, quite sturdy as Morgon should be, no hard edges here but just the background "hum" of tension from start to finish. This is just a superb Morgon from Mathieu and Camille Lapierre. |

Moulin a Vent La Roche |

| |
BH 90 (6/2016): There is a note of herbal tea to the moderately high-toned red and dark gamay fruit nose that is amply cut with earth and pepper nuances. The big-bodied, robust and muscular flavors coat the palate with dry extract before culminating in an ever-so-mildly warm and still moderately tannic finale that delivers both fine depth and length. This is still on the way up but it's not so far away from its peak that it couldn't be enjoyed now with 30 minutes or so of aeration. (Drink starting 2019). WA 91-92 (6/2013): Scents of creme de cassis, chocolate, and nutmeg entice from the glass of Liger-Belair’s 2011 Moulin-a-Vent La Roche, though the torrefactive aspect here is no doubt prompted in large part by the wine’s low-sulfur condition in tank. Iodine and stone, marrow, and dark berry concentrate inform an impressively persistent finish. I suspect this will perform well at least through 2018. |

| BH 89-92 (4/2021): Firm reduction renders the nose unreadable though there is very good vibrancy and delineation to the less concentrated yet still punchy and powerful flavors that conclude in a dusty and slightly rustic finale. | WA 90 (8/2010): The Chavannes 2009 Cote de Brouilly Cuvee des Ambassades (their prestige bottling, price notwithstanding) is complexly scented with red currant, kirsch, fresh blackberry, violet, and lavender. Firm and bright on the palate, it offers hints of crushed stone, salt, and beef juices, along with pungent herbs and tart berry skin, leading to a long, fascinating, if understated finish. Don’t look for the sweet overt ripeness or exuberance more characteristic of the vintage here – and I wouldn’t doubt that the wine really is under 13% alcohol as its “12.5” inscription intimates – but follow this excellent value over the next 3-4 years and you will be richly rewarded by a versatile dinner companion. |

| VM 91 (5/2023): The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent is a blend of 24 small parcels (10-hectares) and matured 20% in barrel. This is very fruit-driven and floral on the nose, outgoing already. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, open and expressive, showing black pepper and Asian spices with more structure on the finish compared to the Brouilly. Very fine. Neal Martin. |

| VM 88 (4/2025): The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent was bottled a month before my visit. This has fine purity on the nose. The 20% used oak knits everything together nicely, though not as powerfully as the 2022. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with fine tannins and red cherry and crushed strawberry notes leading to a smooth, easy-drinking finish. The 2023 is very fine. Neal Martin. |

VM 92 (4/2025): The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour was bottled one month before my visit. It has a lifted and more intense bouquet than the Mortperay, with floral scents of rose and violet emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied and well balanced, with supple tannins and a precise, graceful finish that lingers in the mouth. The 2023 is superb. Neal Martin. WA 90+ (3/2025): The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour, aged in oak barrels, stands out as the most lavish offering of the lineup, showcasing deep sappy notes of prunes, cherries, licorice and cacao powder. However, it maintains a poised balance thanks to a refreshing edge of ginger spice and graphite. Full-bodied and with ripe acidity, the wine exhibits a firm structure that signals its aging potential with tightly woven, youthful tannins. |

VM 93 (4/2024): The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Dernière Souffle comes from the parcel behind the cemetery (as the name suggests) and Rottiers told me that he was set to buy the plot from the owner just 15 days after my visit. This has vivacious red cherry and cranberry scents on the nose, hints of cassis just in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, fresh and saline with a brisk, graphite-tinged finish. This is an adorable Moulin-à-Vent that takes your breath away. Neal Martin. JS 92 (2/2024): This is showing aromas of wild blueberries, strawberries, lavender, stone and dried mint. It’s medium-bodied, lively and bright, with tight tannins. I like the minty and mineral freshness at the end. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. |

It has redcurrant and cranberry aromas on the nose, with light earthy scents in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, more grip than the Champ de Cour and more substance on the finish. This positively brims with potential. Neal Martin. WA 91 (3/2025): The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Dernier Souffle is a luscious fruit-forward wine, yet one of refinement, with notes of rose petals, juicy cherries, vine smoke and sweet spices. It's full-bodied, with ripe acidity and a concentrated, sappy-fruited core. This richness is framed by smoothly integrated tannins that impart a velvety texture, with a dimensional finish toned with graphite. This is a generously proportioned wine that will undoubtedly benefit from time in the bottle or, at the very least, a spell in the decanter to unwind. |

| VM 94 (4/2024): The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Les Thorins, which tends to be the Domaine’s most powerful cuvée, has a wonderful bouquet with pure red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, crushed stone and light tobacco scents. Like the Champ de Cour, it leans a bit toward Pinot Noir. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and saline. The harmonious, cohesive finish is endowed with fine backbone and length. Superb. This will be released in September 2024. Neal Martin. |

| VM 92 (4/2024): The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Mortperay comes from clayey soils just below Fleurie; the vines here are 70 years old. It aged in old barrels sourced from Chablis. It has another mineral-driven nose but with more roundness and depth than the classic bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, very well-balanced and poised, touches of freshly rolled tobacco on the finish. Excellent. Neal Martin. |

VM 90 (4/2025): The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Mortperay comes from a parcel next to Fleurie on clay soils. It was bottled in January and offers Morello cherry, rose petal and cassis scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with finely knit tannins. This is pure and elegant in style, with touches of sour cherry and raspberry . Neal Martin. WA 90 (3/2025): The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Montperay, slated for release in 2025, comes from 80-year-old vines located at the periphery of the Clos de la Roilette in Fleurie. The wine unfurls with a lush bouquet of stewed blueberries and cherries, accented by mocha spice and sweet soil. On the palate, the layered wine unfolds along a horizontal trajectory with subdued acidity that imparts a certain softness and density to its texture. |

| VM 90 (5/2023): The 2022 Brouilly is made of purchased fruit from a vineyard that Rottiers harvests himself. It is matured 10% in barrel and the rest in stainless-steel. The nose is fresh and vibrant with black cherry and cassis fruit, iris petal emerging with time. The palate is well-balanced with juicy, slightly peppery red fruit - a kind of "laid back" Brouilly with a composed and judiciously-spiced finish. Neal Martin. |

VM 89 (4/2025): The 2023 Brouilly comes from purchased fruit grown on granite soils. Pretty red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas blossom in the glass. The palate is well balanced and transparent, with light tannins. It's a little fleshier than expected, featuring brambly red berry and bergamot notes on the finish. It's lovely, though not long-term. Neal Martin. WA 89 (3/2025): The 2023 Brouilly, from purchased grapes near Odenas, is a classic bistro wine. It's juicy, with notes of lilacs, raspberries and plums and tones of crushed stones that give the wine some dimension. It's medium to full-bodied, with a balanced density of fruit and bright acidity that keep it fresh. |

| BH 88 (10/2023): A slightly riper and more deeply pitched nose blends both red and dark gamay fruit aromas with those of more evident pepper and earth elements. The old vines are in evidence as there is good power and density to the supple yet very punchy middleweight flavors that possess somewhat better balance on the austere and rustic finale that also flirts with dryness that doesn't seem to negatively affect the persistence. This would be best served with an appropriate dish. Drink starting 2027. |
