VM 95 (12/2024): The 2018 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Minéral Grand Cru is impressive, especially for the year. As always, the Minéral is a blend from the Champboutons and Bionnes lieux-dits in Avize and Cramant, respectively. Creamy and resonant, with exquisite balance, the 2018 has so much to offer. Expressive floral, earthy and savory undertones frame a core of Chardonnay fruit. Vinification and aging in oak further softens the contours. Time in the glass amplifies the wine’s strong mineral accents. The 2018 is, quite simply, pristine. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2024. (Drink between 2025-2034). Antonio Galloni. WA 94+ (12/2024): The 2018 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Minéral, disgorged in August 2024 with three grams per liter dosage, introduces the range of vintage wines. Defined by poor soils with just about 50 centimeters of topsoil, it comes from two chalk-based, old-vine parcels: Le Champ Bouton in Avize (vinified in tank) and Les Bionnes in Cramant (vinified in an old 600-liter barrel). “In 2017, we lost about 50% to 60% due to frost, then in 2018 we harvested three times the volume of 2017,” reveals Ambroise Agrapart, who is now making the wines, though his father is still very much present. More generously structured compared to the 2016 yet more precise than the 2017, it wafts from the glass with notes of tangerine zest, green apple and dried white flowers. Nakedly chalky with electric-like acidity, it maintains its reputation as the most tensile wine in the range, capturing the freshness much better than many other wines of this vintage. |

VM 96 (4/2025): Bollinger’s 2018 La Grande Année is quite pretty and delicate. Floral and citrus notes are nicely lifted in a Grande Année that offers notable sensuality and grace. Hints of orchard fruit, chamomile, mint and chalk build through the mid-palate and into the taut, chiseled finish. There’s plenty of energy and focus. More importantly, this is a fine effort in a year marked by high yields in Champagne. I would give this a few years in the cellar. The 2018 is 66% Pinot Noir and 34% Chardonnay from 19 villages, 73% Grand Cru and 37% Premier Cru. The core villages are Aÿ, Verzenay and Mareuil for Pinot Noir and Avize, Chouilly and Cuis for the Chardonnay. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2025 (Drink between 2030-2048). Antonio Galloni. WA 94+ (3/2026): Originating from a hot and dry growing season—particularly from mid-June onward—during which harvest began as early as August 23 and lasted for a full two weeks, Bollinger’s 2018 La Grande Année, composed of 66% Pinot Noir and 34% Chardonnay, was disgorged in March 2025 with a dosage of six grams per liter. The wine has turned out very well in the vintage context, presenting—unsurprisingly—a broader and more succulent profile than the racy, fine-boned renditions of 2014 and 2008. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of peach, yellow apple, and orange peel mingled with freshly baked bread and mango, it is medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural, with a generous core of fruit, animated by a pillowy mousse and laden with ripe yet vibrant acidity, carrying through to a long finish. It is slightly more expressive in magnum format, though in either case, it will benefit from a few years of post-disgorgement aging to fully unwind. |

BH 92 (10/2024): The elevated heat of the 2018 vintage is manifest on the ripe aromas of citrus confit, poached pear, baked apple and quinine-scented nose. There is good richness allied with good verve to the moderately generous medium-bodied flavors where the supporting mousse is also moderate while remaining relatively fine before terminating in an acceptably complex, nice dry and sneaky long finale. For my taste this needs more depth and while it certainly could already be enjoyed, I would advise allowing to slumber for another 4 to 6 years first. VM 91 (3/2024): The 2018 Brut Blanc de Blancs is a blend of fruit from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly and Oiry, six villages in the Côte des Blancs. Crushed rocks, mint, slate, lemon peel and green pear lend notable freshness. Like most wines in this vintage, the Blanc de Blancs is airy and medium-bodied in structure, but it shows lovely tension and fine balance. There's plenty of Delamotte class, in an understated style. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Antonio Galloni. |

La Closerie Extra Brut Les Beguines Champagne |

| |
| VM 93 (11/2021): The 2018 Extra-Brut Les Beguines is a gorgeous Champagne from Jérôme Prévost. In this release, the Beguines is a bit more ethereal than it can be. There is plenty of Meunier character, with dried orchard fruit, spice and hazelnut flavors that are nicely lifted. This edition is 90% 2018 plus 10% reserve wines, all done in the 600-liter casks that Prévost favors. What the 2018 lacks in depth it more than makes up for with its charm and accessibility. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (8/2023): Bouchard's 2018 Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules is a particular success, wafting from the glass with aromas of white flowers, crisp red apple, clear honey, wet stones and crushed mint. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise, it's pure, racy and concentrated, with impressive tension and finesse that transcends this frequently blowsy, open-knit vintage. Exigent agronomy and timely harvesting pays off, once again. VM 94 (5/2022): The 2018 Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules is wild, almost exotic in this release. Intense floral and tropical overtones through a core of Pinot fruit. Creamy and expansive, the Ursules is so giving today. Time in the glass offers layers of orchard fruit, lemon confit, marzipan and dried flowers. The 2018 is super-impressive. Disgorged: 2022. (Drink between 2023-2033). Antonio Galloni. |
