| VM 91+ (12/2014): Saturated bright dark red. Lovely perfumed lift to the musky aromas of black raspberry, flint, earth, white pepper and violet. Juicy and taut, almost like a 2011 in its peppery coolness, lower alcohol and inner-mouth tension. Finishes with suave, fine-grained tannins and lovely peppery persistence. Ultimately a bit sweeter and more pliant than the Loess bottling. This cobblestone-rich vineyard planted at an elevation of 950 feet tends to ripen late. Stephen Tanzer. |

| WA 87 (6/2018): Offering up notes of blackberries, licorice and beef blood, as well as a suspicion of volatility, the 2014 Syrah Patina Vineyard is medium to full-bodied, rich and lavish on the attack, but it's a touch drying and spiritous on the finish, which, again, raises the specter of volatile acidity. |
