| VM 94 (12/2013): (from the best sections of the estate vineyards, with roots deep into the limestone): Dark red-ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of mocha, chocolate and wild herbs, with pungent cherry and raspberry fruit emerging only after considerable time in the glass. Initially came across as even less fruity and more savory than the Originals, with a bit less early detail, but aeration brought a tactile, chewy texture and lovely floral lift. The wine's strong underlying energy gives the juicy, very long finish a light touch in spite of the wine's powerful impression of solidity. JD 93+ (8/2021): Cut from the same cloth, the 2019 Syrah Hilltops is also 100% Syrah that was 70% destemmed and brought up in neutral oak. This medium to full-bodied, elegant, beautifully layered Syrah has lots of more black and blue fruits and well as spice and pepper. As with all the wines from winemaker Kyle Knapp, it’s elegant and has a great mix of richness and freshness, followed by outstanding length. I’d give bottles another year in the cellar, and it should keep nicely through 2029. (Drink between 2022-2029).
VM 93 (10/2021): The 2019 Syrah Hilltops is pretty similar to the Originals, but it has more of everything; more power, more earthiness and more fruit. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy brooding, packed Syrahs. (Drink between 2024-2034). Antonio Galloni.
WA 93 (3/2022): Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Syrah Hilltops Estate has a nose of red and black fruits with touches of earth, coffee beans and tar. The medium-bodied palate is fresh and chalky with crunchy fruits and a long, mineral-driven finish. |

VM 93 (8/2022): The 2020 Syrah Hilltops is made from a single block of high-density Syrah planted in 2004. It shows good energy and vibrancy, but in the end, the site and vintage speak more, such that the Hilltops is not materially different from the other wines. There's good attack up-front, but then the wine seems to stop at the mid-palate and finish. (Drink between 2025-2035). Antonio Galloni.
JD 92 (8/2022): The 2020 Syrah Hilltops is a slightly more rounded effort offering black fruits (blackberries, plums), smoked meats, and peppery herbs in its medium to full-bodied, rich, mouth-filling style. It's slightly more concentrated and expansive compared to the Originals Syrah, yet I think both will evolve and drink well for at least a decade. (Drink between 2022-2032). |

WA 94 (3/2022): Medium ruby, the 2019 Sangiovese Estate has savory scents of leather, bitters, licorice and dried citrus peel. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and fresh, with fuller fruits than the nose implies and a long finish with an array of spicy layers.
VM 92 (8/2022): The 2019 Sangiovese showed beautifully, with a vibrant ruby color as well as terrific aromatics of ripe cherries, darker berries, incense, and spice. It's medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. |
