| VM 90 (1/2023): Roberto Voerzio's 2017 Barolo Cerequio comes across as washed out, with only modest depth and little expression of place. Barolos from Cerequio all have distinctive signatures, very few of which are present here. In its best vintages, the Voerzio is an exhilarating, thrilling Barolo. I see none of that here. Perhaps the 2017 will be better once the searing tannins soften. We will see. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 97 (3/2010): One of the clear standouts of the vintage, the 1990 Barolo La Serra has aged exceptionally well; in fact it is more vibrant than the 1989 Barolos I tasted alongside it. There is gorgeous purity in a melange of red fruits and flowers that comes together on the palate in stunning style. As beautiful as the 1990 La Serra is today, it clearly has enough freshness to last another ten years. This is an extraodinary, towering Barolo from Roberto Voerzio. Antonio Galloni. |

WS 98 (7/2004): This is really seductive on the nose, with Indian spices, blackberries, plums and cedar. Turns to flowers. Full-bodied, with layers of gorgeous ripe tannins and loads of ripe fruit. Yet goes on and on. Wonderful balance. This is better than the 1997. Best after 2010. 440 cases made. WS 92 (8/2005): The 2000 Barolo La Serra, with a bit less color than the Brunate, brings up the intensity level with a more penetrating nose and with flavors with a certain tannic clout. It will take a bit more time to come around, and can be drunk between 2006 and 2017. VM 90 (12/2004): Medium red. Roasted redcurrant and tobacco on the nose, with a suggestion of dried fruits that reminded me of a Bonneau Chateauneuf du Pape. Then fat, rich and chewy, though not especially sweet in the middle. Liqueur-like redcurrant syrup flavor complicated by minerals, leather and animal fur. Finishes with big, drying tannins. This is Voerzio's highest-altitude cru and a wine that's usually perfumed in the early going, but today this is my least favorite 2000 here. |

WA 96+ (4/2012): The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio’s 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a few more years in bottle. A hint of rose petal lingers on the intense finish. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. WS 95 (2/2014): The tar, eucalyptus and ripe raisin aromas and flavors turn toward sandalwood, coffee and spice notes with aeration. Broad-shouldered, complex and powerful, featuring sweet fruit and a supple texture. Lively, refined tannins mark the finish. Best from 2017 through 2027. 316 cases made. JS 92 (7/2012): Subtle aromas of blueberries and porcini mushrooms follow through to a full body, with soft and silky tannins and a delicate chocolate and berry aftertaste. Hard not to drink now but will improve with age. |

| VM 94 (6/2014): Leather, iron, smoke, black cherries, plums and menthol wrap around the palate in the 2003 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate. A huge, hulking wine, the 2003 boasts tons of depth and pure volume. Although not quite as fresh as the Sarmassa, the Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate boasts striking intensity and more than enough depth to drink well for at least another handful of years. Iron, smoke and tobacco wrap around the pulsating finish. (Drink between 2014-2021). Antonio Galloni. |
