VM 92-94 (3/2016): Youthful violet. Vibrant, spice- and mineral-laced black and blue fruit scents show excellent focus and pick up suggestions of cola and violet with air. Sappy, concentrated and pure, offering juicy blueberry and boysenberry flavors firmed by a spine of tangy acidity. Blends power and vivacity with a deft hand and finishes very long and minerally, with supple tannins building steadily and in harmony with the wine's fruit. All of the fruit from Rostaing's Côte Blonde and La Landonne holdings are in this bottling this vintage. Josh Raynolds. JLL ***[*] (10/2016): Red robe. Has a fine tune nose, a pure blueberry, a murmur of violets, Pez sweets, discreet licorice and a wee note of toffee from the oak. The palate starts out rather spindly, with fine fruit, crisp tannin, all in precision. This is medium weight, Nordic in style, comes with a floral roundness on the finish, which brings in some extra drive, depth. From 2019. WA 89-91 (12/2015): What should be an Outstanding wine, the 2014 Cote Rotie Ampodium is a medium-bodied, classically styled and elegant Cote Rotie that offers plenty of both red and black fruits, spring flowers, and toasted spice characteristics on the nose and palate. Possessing both good concentration and notable acidity, it should benefit from short term cellaring and drink well for a decade. |

VM 94 (12/2022): Deep violet color. Ripe blackberry and cherry on the floral- and spice-accented nose. Shows fine definition and appealing sweetness on the palate, offering juicy dark fruit and floral pastille flavors and a peppery overtone. Closes long and lively, with repeating cherry and spice notes and even tannins that lend subtle grip. (Drink between 2024-2032). Josh Raynolds. JD 93 (2/2022): Moving to the 2019s from bottle, the 2019 Côte Rôtie Ampodium offers lots of peppery herbs, flowers, bacon fat, and sweet black raspberry fruit in a medium to full-bodied, meaty, straight-up classic Côte Rôtie style. It’s well worth seeking out as a multi-bottle purchase, as it will offer loads of pleasure over the coming 15 years. (Drink between 2022-2037). |

JD 91-93 (2/2022): The 2020 Côte Rôtie Ampodium is well worth seeking out, and it’s been a great value now in just about every vintage I’ve tasted. Medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant, and balanced, it has lots of textbook Côte Rôtie red and black fruits, violets, and peppery herbs, with some graphite and minerality as well. It’s clearly an outstanding wine, and I’d be happy to drink a bottle any time over the coming 10-12 years or more. WA 91-93 (1/2022): Pierre Rostaing has been shortening the cuvaison for this cuvee, and the 2020 Cote Rotie Ampodium received closer to three weeks on the skins than four. It's still impressively dark and rich, with scents of black olives, violets, raspberries and a touch of orange zest. Medium to full-bodied and velvety in feel, it looks like a strong year for the estate's blended wine. |

| JD 98 (1/2018): The 2015 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is up there with the crème de la crème and is a sensational effort that has more than a passing resemblance to the 1999. Huge aromatics of black raspberries, exotic flowers, crushed rocks and spice just jump from the glass. This full-bodied, exuberant, incredibly sexy beauty has sweet tannin, a weightless, seamless texture, awesome purity fruit and a finish that won’t quit. It has a youthful exuberance that makes it irresistible now, but it needs 4-6 years of cellaring and will cruise for 20-25 years. |

JLL ***** (1/2008): Solid, dark red; very northern zone, with schist tension in it, and the lead notes. Also has some vegetal, with a red fruit underlay. Is very primary and unformed, but its early minerality is upstaged as it airs and warms, so it moves towards red cherry and less of the mineral tension. The palate is still full of grip; the middle is very much on the exotic tastes - pepper of Malabar in India. Does not concede to modern tastes in its youthful vigour. Length is full, discreet, very good. Forget about this until around 2012. After 90 minutes, is more organized and consecutive on the palate. Don`t come here looking for easy kicks - come for subtlety and style. It is a good sign that it evolves constantly on the palate. No hurry wine. WS 95 (5/2008): Really solid grip defines this red for now, with hints of white pepper, cassis, violet and iron held in reserve. Long and remarkably silky, considering its depth, with lingering olive and dried currant notes. Best from 2010 through 2023. 790 cases made. JD 94+ (5/2009): Big and intense, the 2005 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is bigger and more concentrated then either the ‘06 Côte Blonde or ‘06 La Landonne and offers up gorgeous notes of smoked meat, violets, pepper and copious amounts of mineral and iron to go along with its medium to full bodied palate. Concentrated and rich, this has vibrant acidity, beautiful purity and a long, finish where the quality of the wine really shows. I’d let these rest for 5 or 6 years and then drink them over the following 20 years. WA 94 (2/2008): The 2005 Cote Rotie La Landonne (8,500 bottles) offers the scorched earth, bacon fat, tapenade, and black fruits that come from this northern site in Cote Rotie. Tannic, superbly concentrated, and beginning to close down, this is a big mouthful of classic wine meant for long-term cellaring. Give it 4-5 years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades. VM 92-96 (2/2007): Bright ruby. Explosive dark fruits on the nose, complicated by an array of pungent floral tones. A strong boysenberry quality is complicated by a deeper and even sweeter note of chewing tobacco. Really expands on the finish, picking up a spicy, peppery quality and displaying suave, silky tannins. |

JLL ****[*] (12/2008): Plenty of red in the robe. Has a somewhat sultry nose (M. Rostaing says it has been open a few days), with a smoky, licorice air on top. The palate holds compact black fruit that comes with a line of freshness through it, but becomes round again on the finish. This is well-knit - I find the 2006 more sunny. It ends on a smoky, straight down the line aftertaste, with definite late mineral in it. This has good balance, and cleanses the palate. From 2012. VM 93 (1/2009): Medium red. Mineral-driven aromas of red berries, cherry, Asian spices and violet display impressive clarity and vivacity, and a delicacy that is really intriguing. Light on its feet, with deeply concentrated red berry and cherry flavors and a suave floral quality. Silky in texture like a suave Chambolle-Musigny, with excellent finishing spiciness and cut. Pure and stylish. Josh Raynolds. WA 92 (4/2009): One of the three finest wines made from this great site, the 2006 Cote Rotie La Landonne boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as notes of ground pepper, smoked herbs, roasted meats, cassis, and violets. Displaying excellent fruit, medium to full body, and serious richness as well as depth, it should drink well for 10-15 years. WS 91 (5/2009): Lighter in style, but persistent, with tangy red currant and damson plum flavors guided by sandalwood, iron and sanguine notes. A slightly dusty edge frames the mineral- and white pepper-filled finish. Drink now through 2019. 750 cases made. |

WA 97 (10/2018): Subtle notes of baking spices frame hints of tea, olives and raspberries on the nose of the 2016 Cote Rotie la Landonne. A paragon of elegance, it's medium to full-bodied, but silky from start to lingering finish. It's a wine that's pretty much guaranteed to make even the steeliest curmudgeon smile, as it's so bright, ephemeral and luscious. It's not the rich, ripe wine the 2015 is, but it's suave, complex and long. JLL ****[*] (11/2017): Full robe. Has a soft blackberry aroma, ripe blueberry that comes with neat sweetness, is most inviting. The palate bears graceful red fruits that have real good carry and a winsome appeal, detail and purity on parade with length of fruit and content into late darkness and a firm layer, compact and round. This has good flesh. From 2022. WS 95 (5/2019): Well-built, with lots of juicy plum, blackberry and black currant compote flavors at the core infused with anise, roasted apple wood, licorice and black tea notes. The finish is scored with a cast-iron note, keeping everything grounded. Best from 2023 through 2038. 600 cases made. VM 94 (9/2019): Dark purple. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe dark berries, cherry liqueur, incense and potpourri, while olive and exotic spice nuances build in the glass. Intense, alluringly sweet black and blue fruit, spicecake and violet pastille flavors show sharp delineation and a spine of juicy acidity. Closes extremely long and precise, displaying a smoky, intensifying mineral quality and youthfully gripping tannins that build steadily. Josh Raynolds . JD 96 (12/2018): The 2016 Côte Rôtie La Landonne is another brilliant wine that has textbook La Landonne notes of powerful, ripe black fruits, smoked meats, peppery herbs, tobacco, and beef blood. Full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, layered, and structured, it has the elegant, finesse style of the vintage front and center, yet is still a powerful, masculine, structured wine (which is this site). Give bottles 4-5 years of bottle age and it will cruise for two decades. |

JD 95-97+ (12/2018): A bigger, richer, more brooding wine, the 2017 Côte Rôtie La Landonne boasts stunning (and classic La Landonne) aromas and flavors of black fruits, smoked meat, and scorched earth. Full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and structured, this is one of the few 2017s that’s going to really demand cellaring. WA 94-96 (10/2018): The 2017 Cote Rotie la Landonne looks a bit simple at the moment, but it's early days. Rich, ripe raspberry fruit muscles out any other nuances in this full-bodied, velvety-textured wine that finishes long and tannic. |

| VM 94-96 (5/2020): Complex array of dark fruit preserve, floral, spice and savory herb qualities on the highly perfumed nose; a smoky mineral note gains volume as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift to the concentrated cherry liqueur, blueberry and spicecake flavors, which slowly expand through the midpalate. Blends depth and energy with a sure hand and shows impressive energy and mineral thrust on a very long, youthfully tannic finish. Josh Raynolds. |

JD 98+ (12/2022): Almost pure perfection, the 2020 Côte Rôtie La Landonne just about jumps out of the glass and offers up utterly classic La Landonne aromatics of smoked black fruits, cassis, scorched earth, cured meats, and ground pepper, with more violet and floral nuances in the background. These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is full-bodied, dense, and powerful, with building tannins and an incredibly layered mouthfeel. It's not for the instant gratification crowd, but this is one seriously good Côte Rôtie. VM 97 (12/2022): Opaque ruby. Displays an array of intensely perfumed, mineral-accented black and blue fruit, floral, botanical herb and exotic spice aromas, along with suggestions of licorice, smoked meat and olive. Shows serious depth as well as unlikely energy, offering palate-staining kirsch, cassis, bitter chocolate, olive paste and violet pastille flavors that slowly turn sweet and become more energetic through the back half. Youthfully gripping tannins add grip to the smoky, mineral- and spice-driven finish, which emphatically repeats the licorice and blue fruit notes. Josh Raynolds. |

| JD 97+ (12/2022): From a great terroir in the northern part of Côte Rôtie, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Vallière is another perfumed, mineral-laced 2020, offering a beautiful nose of darker raspberries, camphor, violets, woodsmoke, and grilled bread. Possessing huge minerality, it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, compact mouthfeel, lots of tannins, and a great finish. It needs to be hidden in the back of the cellar for 7-8 years if possible. |
