VM 97 (1/2022): The 2019 Proprietary Red Mekerra is another gorgeous wine from Philippe and Cherie Melka. Deep, rich and explosive, the 2019 possesses tremendous depth and tons of character that comes to the fore with time in the glass. Cherry, plum, mocha and soaring Franc aromatics give the 2019 its alluring personality. The tannins need a few years to soften, but the 2019 is so compelling, even today. (Drink between 2024-2039). Antonio Galloni. JD 97 (12/2021): A blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Mekerra Proprietary Red comes from a higher elevation site in Knights Valley and was brought up in 80% new French oak. It has a gorgeous nose of ripe black cherry and darker berry fruits as well as plenty of spice, flowers, tobacco, and scorched earth. It's gorgeous on the palate with medium to full body, wonderful purity, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous bottle of wine that shines for its elegance and purity as well as its richness. |

VM 97 (12/2023): The 2021 Proprietary Red Mekerra, Melka's Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend, is terrific. Deep, rich and voluptuous in the glass, the 2021 is a sensual beauty. Succulent red cherry, cinnamon, mocha, new leather and pomegranate flesh out, framed by the silkiest, most polished tannins imaginable, a rarity in Knights Valley. This is beautifully done. (Drink between 2024-2036). JD 94+ (2/2024): The 2021 Mekerra Proprietary Red checks in as 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc and was raised in French oak barrels for 22 months. It’s a rich, concentrated, medium to full-bodied beauty that really shows the vintage with its pure, focused, bright style, which is balanced by rock-solid mid-palate density and a great finish. Black cherries, leafy herbs, graphite, crushed stone, and background oak all define the aromatics, and it's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades. (Drink between 2027-2047). |

JD 95 (1/2025): The 2022 La Mekerra Vineyard is based on 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Franc raised in 50% new oak. Ripe black cherries, darker currants, smoked tobacco, darker chocolate, and graphite all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated, has ripe, polished tannins, a great, layered mid-palate, and a great finish. VM 92 (11/2025): The 2022 Mekerra is quite dense and powerful. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, mint and light tropical overtones fill out the layers. There's a bit of tension in the contours, likely the result of drought, but all things considered, the balance here is impeccable. (Drink between 2026-2037). Antonio Galloni. |

VM 98 (1/2020): The 2017 Métisse Jumping Goat Vineyard is another absolutely stunning wine in this range from Philippe and Cherie Melka. Rich and vertical, with tons of explosive energy, the 2017 is infused with tremendous drive as well as nuance. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, spice and espresso all build as this racy, voluptuous red show off its personality. This truly remarkable wine is one of the real highlights of the year. In a word: sensational. Antonio Galloni. JD 95 (1/2020): A Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend that includes 8% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Metisse Jumping Goat sports a deep purple color as well as notes of cassis, graphite, white flowers, and ample minerality. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, and balance, it's a classy, elegant Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the coming 15-20 years. (Drink between 2020-2035). WA 92 (10/2019): The 2017 Metisse Jumping Goat Vineyard is made up of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot—Merlot was declassified this vintage because of the heat. Grapes were picked in early September. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with bold, expressive black cherries, black raspberries and cassis notes plus hints of pencil lead, bouquet garni and lavender. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with fresh, crunchy black fruits and a firm, chewy frame, lifted by fantastic vivacity on the finish. |

JD 97 (12/2021): From a site just behind Spotteswoode, the 2019 Metisse Jumping Goat Vineyard is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. More blackcurrants, chocolate, smoked tobacco, and scorched earth notes define the nose, and this ruby/purple-hued beauty is medium to full-bodied with a wonderfully fresh, herbal, classic Cabernet character, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a beautiful, elegant wine. VM 97 (1/2022): The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Métisse Jumping Goat Vineyard emerges from a site on the other side of St. Helena, closer to Spottswoode and Madrona Ranch. It offers up generous red berry fruit intermingled with strong savory, earthy and tobacco accents that add layers of nuance. This potent, impeccably balanced Cabernet should start to drink beautifully in a few years, once the tannins soften a bit. (Drink between 2025-2039). Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97+ (12/2023): The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Jumping Goat Vineyard Métisse is fabulous. Dense and quite savory, the 2021 possesses tremendous depth and vibrancy. There is a quite a bit more in the way of minerality and savory elements than is often the case. Blackberry jam, graphite, chocolate, spice, new leather and chocolate saturate the palate. This tannic, brooding beauty needs time. (Drink between 2024-2036). Antonio Galloni. JD 96+ (2/2024): The 2021 Metisse Jumping Goat Vineyard checks in 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. Another classic 2021 from this talented winemaker, it offers gorgeous darker red and black currant fruits, lots of graphite, crushed stone, and hints of espresso, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. (Drink between 2026-2046). WA 95 (1/2024): The 2021 Metisse Jumping Goat Vineyard comes from a site next to Spottswoode on the western side of St. Helena. A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% each Merlot and Petit Verdot, it showcases attractive notions of ripe cherries, florals (violets?) and clean dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, it's velvety in feel yet vibrant at the same time, with a long, lush finish. It's a beautiful wine, concentrated and harmonious, approachable now, yet capable of evolving for 20 years. |

| VM 93 (11/2025): The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Jumping Goat Vineyard is a rich, heady wine. Sumptuous dark red/purplish fruit, spice, menthol, pomegranate and blood orange are front and center. The purity of the fruit is compelling. A healthy dollop of Petit Verdot (11%) lends quite a bit of freshness. (Drink between 2026-2037). Antonio Galloni. |
