WA 96 (10/2009): The dense ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cotes Capelan is an outrageously rich, complex wine exhibiting beautiful creme de cassis, kirsch, licorice, forest floor, and spring flower-like aromas. It is fresh, voluptuous, and opulent in the mouth, but the fresh acids and vibrancy give it exceptional precision as well as a refreshing style despite its weight, richness, and length. This is a superb, young Chateauneuf du Pape from an up-and-coming star of the appellation. Give it 1-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades.
JD 94 (6/2011): A fleshy, upfront Châteauneuf-du-Pape that shows the perfume and intensity of the vintage, the 2007 La Ferme du Mont Côtes Capelan is loaded with ripe plum and blackberry styled fruits that are intermixed with notes of lavender, licorice, flowers, sweet garrigue, and roasted herbs on the nose. Gaining freshness and depth over the evening, this full bodied, hedonistically styled beauty possesses a silky, seductive texture, fantastic fruit, surprisingly good acidity, and a long finish. Needing a solid decant, and even better on the second day, this delicious wine should have a solid decade or more of prime drinking. |
