VM 93 (8/2016): Vivid ruby. Urgent aromas of fresh dark berries, licorice and incense are accompanied by a suggestion of smoked meat in the background. Sappy and broad on entry, then more taut in the midpalate, offering concentrated boysenberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors and a hint of spicecake. A vibrant mineral flourish adds lift and cut to the finish, which lingers with excellent floral-tinged persistence. Josh Raynolds. BH 88 (6/2016): There is enough brett to notice and it pushes the red berry fruit and earth nuances to the background. Otherwise there is good vibrancy and detail to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess a lovely mouth feel before terminating in a balanced and lingering finish where, importantly, the brett is much more subtle. As I have commented in several reviews in this Progress Report the level of brett extant here is probably acceptable for most people though I recognize that everyone's sensitivities to it are of course highly individualistic. Note that even though this will certainly be capable of aging I cannot recommend doing so as the brett is only likely to become more pronounced. (Drink starting 2016) |

| VM 94 (1/2017): Limpid violet. A seductively perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red berries, Asian spices and potpourri, and subtle cola and licorice nuances emerge with aeration. Juicy and pure on the palate, offering intense raspberry, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors and a refreshingly bitter touch of blood orange. Delivers a serious payload of vibrant berry and spice character without excess weight, and finishes extremely long and nervy, displaying no rough edges and lingering florality. (Drink between 2018-2025). Josh Raynolds. |
