WA 95+ (10/2007): The 2005 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape, this estate’s strongest vintage since 1998, has put on serious weight since last year. Dense ruby/purple-colored with an exquisite perfume of black raspberries, kirsch, ground pepper, and incense, this full-bodied, powerful, concentrated wine reveals fabulous purity as well as a finish that lasts over 45 seconds. Purchasers of this beauty will need patience. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. WS 95 (4/2008): Wine Spectator #5 wine of 2008. This is dense and chewy, but not tiring to drink, thanks to fresh acidity and an edgy, gravelly feel that drives the blackberry, currant and sweet spice notes. The long finish has great briary grip, with notes of garrigue and hot stone checking in. Best from 2010 through 2030. 15,830 cases made. VM 93 (2/2008): Deep, bright red. Explosively perfumed nose offers seductive raspberry, kirsch and floral scents, with a suave mineral underpinning. Extremely fresh, with precise red fruit and floral pastille flavors strongly reminiscent of a broad-shouldered pinot noir. Finishes with Outstanding clarity, sweetness and persistence. |

| WA 94 (3/2016): One of the more youthful wines in the retrospective, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau from the Brunier brothers is a head-turner. Possessing the ever present seaweed/nori character that I almost always find in this cuvee, it has a beautiful core of currants, crushed rocks, tapenade and licorice-like aromas and flavors. Made from 65% Grenache, 15% each of Mourvèdre and Syrah, and the balance Cinsault—all from the famed La Crau lieu-dit—this is as traditional and classic Chateauneuf du Pape as you can get. It’s a gorgeous wine that has another 10-15 years of longevity. |

WA 96+ (10/2009): The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthfeel, and enormous length and richness. This is a brilliant effort from brothers Frederic and Daniel Brunier. JD 95+ (8/2010): From magnum, the 2007 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau sports a deep blood red color to go with its decadent, ripe aromatics. Licorice, hot stone, meat juices, and roasted garrigue come jumping from the glass and the fruit leans towards the plum/raspberry liqueur spectrum. Beautiful on the palate, the wine is full bodied and lavishly textured, possesses loads of ripe fruit, impeccable balance and a long, focused finish. Very approachable now (and I thoroughly enjoyed this bottle) it continues to flesh out with air, gaining both depth and richness. Given the track record of this estate, I don’t see any reason this won’t drink well for 20+ years. Simply a stunning bottle of wine. WS 95 (12/2009): Packed, in a brawny, muscular style atypical for this lush vintage, with a gravelly undertow to the currant paste, braised fig and dark licorice notes. Picks up even more steam on the finish, with grilled mesquite, mineral and garrigue notes and a long, hot stone-filled finish. Best from 2010 through 2030. 17,000 cases made. JLL ***** (6/2010): Red robe, good heart in it. The red berry aroma is starting to close and draw in on itself - it is wide, though, and herbal. There is a firm frontage to the palate, with really attractive, even lovely red fruit lying inside, but now sidling out of sight. The fruit at its centre is excellent. It ends freshly and with matter that closes it well, a good sing-off. The length is good. Plenty to play for here, but not for a while, ne touchez pas this wine for a good while, maybe even until 2014 or so. 2031-33 "It is just starting to close now, having been very open," Daniel Brunier. VM 93 (2/2010): Glass-staining ruby. Highly pungent bouquet offers black fruit compote, olive and floral qualities, along with a slightly high-toned quality that recedes with air. The palate-coating, deeply concentrated cassis and blackberry flavors display a slow-mounting spiciness. Pretty powerful for a wine from this estate, showing more heft and dark fruit character than usual. The finish is broad, velvety and impressively persistent. Long-time fans of this property's usually elegant style might not be over the moon for this wine's virility. |

| JD 96+ (9/2012): As good, if not better, than the stunning ’07, the 2010 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau is a knockout effort that will delight traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape lovers. It’s ruby/semi-opaque color is followed by a sumptuous, savory bouquet of ground pepper, rolled stone and oyster shell like minerality, seaweed, and garrigue that’s anchored by a vibrant core of sweet red fruits. Full-bodied, textured, fresh, and with chewy, ripe tannin on the finish, this will not be a wine for instant gratification and needs a solid 5-6 years of bottle age; it should keep for upwards of three decades. |

| JD 94+ (11/2021): The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is ruby/purple-hued and has the classic translucent color of the domaine. It's more precise and focused than the Telegramme and will need more time, but it offers a complex, gorgeous bouquet of red and black fruits, crushed stone, wild fennel, and ground pepper. Pure, medium to full-bodied, and elegant, do your best to hide bottles for 5-7 years and it's going to keep for two decades. |

VM 87 (1/2000): Medium plummy red. Open nose combines red plum, redcurrant, tobacco, cinnamon and earth, plus hints of chocolate and licorice. Round and gentle in the mouth, with good balance for the vintage but only moderate depth of flavor and structure. Fairly tannic finish, but the tannins are fine. Will provide early pleasure. WA 87-89 (2/1999): The 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape is an evolved, forward, richly fruity wine with medium body, and plenty of smoke, pepper, Allspice, black cherry and Provencal herb aromas. It is seductive, round, charming, and sexy. The wine reveals pepper and spicy aromas. Because of its fragility, Daniel Brunier intends to bottle the 1997 early to preserve its attractive level of fruit. This wine will not make old bones, but it will offer delicious drinking for 6-7 years |
