WA 95+ (12/2017): The backward, tannic 2015 Cote Rotie Besset is a barrel selection of the estate's best parcels. It's inky in hue, with dark aromas of charcoal and espresso. Rugged and intense tannins are balanced by a ripe, velvety feel and mouthwatering meaty, dark-fruit flavors. Impressive.
VM 92 (4/2018): Opaque ruby. Deep-pitched aromas of black currant, violet, incense and woodsmoke, along with a minerally topnote and a hint of olive in the background. Sweet, smoky and chewy on the palate, offering intense black and blue fruit flavors and a subtle floral pastille flourish that gains strength as the wine slowly opens up. Finishes very long and taut, displaying excellent clarity and chewy tannins that lend structure and grip. (Drink between 2023-2031). Josh Raynolds.
JD 90+ (1/2018): The 2015 Côte Rôtie Besset is a modern-styled effort that has lots of chocolate, black fruits and smoked herb aromas and flavors. Rich, concentrated and balanced, with good purity and fine tannin, it's certainly not classic or traditional, but it is good. Give bottles 2-4 years and it should drink nicely for a decade. This cuvée was mostly destemmed and aged 20 months in 60% new barrels, with the balance in once and twice used oak. (Drink between 2020-2030). |
