WA 88 (11/2024): Produced from the second pressing of the Clos Saint Pierre, the 2023 Mâcon-Villages Grand Élevage offers up aromas of white flowers, pear and toasted nuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny palate that's chalky and structured, with notable dry extract for its level. BH 87 (10/2024): Here there is enough oak influence to notice framing the aromas of white orchard fruit confit, lemon rind and a whiff of crushed fennel. There is more volume still to the solidly punchy medium weight flavors that also display a touch of CO2 on the more complex and less rustic finale. (Drink starting 2025). VM 87 (8/2025): The 2023 Mâcon-Villages Grand Élevage is aged entirely in used barrel for ten months. This has a primal nose that doesn't quite engage as much as the '22. The palate is better with a pleasant roundness on the entry and fine acidity, but it's just missing some grip and density on the finish (despite the addition of fruit from Pierreclos). (Drink between 2025-2029). Neal Martin. |

WA 94 (11/2024): It's always hard to choose between this bottling and La Roche, and as usual, the 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Combes Vieilles Vignes is a touch richer and broader out of the gates. Picked in three separate harvests (collecting only the ripest grapes on each passage), the Verget team pulled out all the stops to craft a medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny wine that's seamless and complete, evoking aromas of pear, honeycomb, white flowers and toasted nuts. VM 92 (8/2025): The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Combes Vieilles Vignes comes from the village of Pouilly and was picked three times. This is all about precision on the nose, not powerful yet precise, with touches of limestone percolating through the citrus fruit. Hints of white flower emerge with aeration. The palate is well balanced with ample weight and depth. It's grippy and almost Chassagne-like, with a very persistent finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2026-2038). Neal Martin. |

St. Veran Lieu (Inter) Dit |

WA 92 (11/2024): The 2023 Saint-Véran Lieu (Inter)dit has turned out nicely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, confit citrus, white flowers, toasted nuts and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, its broad and ample attack segues into a racy, concentrated and chalky palate. VM 91 (8/2025): The 2023 Saint-Véran Lieu (Inter)dit is mostly from a lieu-dit that has the same name as a famous Northern Rhône appellation beginning with C and is not Cornas. Lovely aromas of yellow plum, jasmine and crushed stone emerge, very well defined and focused. The palate is fresh and sapid, lightly spiced with a bright and powerful finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine. Classy. (Drink between 2026-2036). Neal Martin. BH 87 (10/2024): Once again, there is enough reduction to completely overshadow the fruit. The supple, delicious and caressing medium weight flavors possess a finer mouthfeel while delivering acceptable length on the youthfully austere and dry finale where a mild touch of warm slowly emerges. A few years of keeping should help add depth and hopefully, cause the reduction to dissipate. (Drink starting 2026). |
