VM 94-96 (4/2017): (made with no new oak): Bright violet color. Mineral- and spice-accented cherry, black raspberry, incense and violet on the intensely perfumed nose. Deeply concentrated but lively as well, offering palate-staining dark berry preserve, spicecake, floral pastille and olive flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. Blends power and vivacity with a deft hand and finishes sweet and extremely long, with silky tannins folding quickly into the wine's juicy, focused dark fruit. Josh Raynolds.

VM 96 (9/2019): Inky ruby. Intense blueberry, incense, exotic spice and mineral qualities on the expansive, seductively perfumed nose. Stains the palate with spice-laced black and blue fruit, spicecake, olive and violet pastille flavors that show real power and tension and no excess fat. VM 96 (12/2022): Opaque violet color. Intense dark berry, potpourri and olive paste aromas are energized by building mineral and cracked pepper flourishes. Stains the palate with appealingly sweet black and blue fruit, cola, candied violet and spicecake flavors that show a suave blend of depth and energy. JD 94 (12/2022): A quintessential Cornas that shows both the wild, feral character of the appellation as well as the elegance this estate always seems to achieve, the 2019 Cornas Chaillot offers a deep purple hue to go with a great nose of cassis and darker cherry fruits, violets, smoked game, and scorched earth. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has wonderful purity of fruit, building tannins, and a great finish. It's certainly more approachable than the Reynard yet still needs 4-5 years of bottle age. It's a beautiful Cornas that will have two decades of longevity. (Drink between 2022-2042).

VM 94 (1/2025): The 2021 Cornas Chaillot outperforms the rustic 2020 I tasted on the same occasion. Ripe black fruit, graphite, cedar, stemmy facets and peppery nuances are all amplified in the glass. Intense and expressive, the medium- to full-bodied 2021 is a gorgeous Chaillot, packing a stunning energetic lift on the mid-palate. Checking out with timeless elegance on the refined finish, the 2021 is a showstopper. (Drink between 2027-2036). Josh Raynolds.

JD 91 (2/2010): The 2006 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot is missing the elegance and detail of the ’06 Reynard and is more meaty, rich and rustic. On the nose, the wine displays plenty of ripe, licorice infused dark fruit, saddle leather and garrigue aromas. These carry over onto the full bodied palate marked by a fat, mouth filling texture as well as ripe, rustic tannins on the finish. While I didn’t taste the ’99 Chaillot on release, I struggle to think this could ever match that wine with it too is at age 10. I’d opt for drink these over the next 8 to 10 years.

VM 91-93 (2/2010): Bright purple. Pungent, expressive aromas of blackberry, cracked pepper, Asian spices, graphite and tobacco. Spherical and silky, with fine-grained tannins framing the sweet dark berry and spice flavors. A sexy floral note comes up with air and carries through the long, juicy, impressively pure finish. This fat-free wine impresses more with elegance than power.

VM 96 (12/2022): Brilliant ruby. Intense blackberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of exotic spices, olive, cracked pepper and pungent flowers. Youthfully chewy, appealingly sweet black and blue fruit flavors deepen and turn spicier with air; a smoky mineral element adds back-end lift and cut. JD 94 (2/2022): Looking first at the 2018 Cornas Chaillot, this beauty offers up a supple, medium to full-bodied, impeccably balanced style as well as lively red and black fruits supported by notes of leather, pepper, and violets. This is the younger vine cuvée of the estate and comes from vines averaging upwards of 40 years in age. Not destemmed, it’s vinified in a mix of tank and open top wooden vats and is aged in older barrels. It’s a beautiful, elegant, seamless Cornas that shows the hallmark elegance of this estate.

JD 95 (1/2018): The 2014 Cornas Reynard is similar to its younger brother, yet offers more richness, depth and minerality. Black raspberries, black cherries, pepper, crushed rocks, tapenade and smoked meat nuances all flow to a concentrated 2014 that shows the more mid-weight, elegant, yet vibrant style of the vintage. It's far from unapproachable now, yet should be at its best from 2020 to 2030. These wines are always hard to come by as Allemand refuses visits from critics (at least I’ve never had an email or call returned). Nevertheless, I purchased these from Le Mangevins (don’t miss a chance to eat here!) in Tain l’Hermitage and they’re brilliant wines. (Drink between 2020-2030.)

VM 94 (7/2017): Youthful violet. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of blackberry and boysenberry, joined by suave Indian spice and incense notes as the wine opens up. Youthfully nervy and focused on the palate, offering bright blue fruit, violet and spicecake flavors that show outstanding clarity and mineral lift.
