VM 94 (11/2019): The 2017 Straw Wine, which is 100% Chenin Blanc, has a less exuberant, more focused bouquet than previous vintages, scents of acacia honey, peach, orange blossom and light waxy aromas unfolding with each swirl of the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry, with veins of blood orange threaded through the viscous honeyed fruit. There is superb acidity here. Beautifully balanced and full of tension from beginning to end, this fans out discreetly toward a finish that carries slightly less weight than previous vintages. Superb. (Drink between 2019-2040). WA 92 (10/2019): The 2017 Straw Wine has a fresh and vibrant core of apricot and stone fruit and displays soft oak tones with fresh, sweet corn and honeysuckle flowers. On the luscious palate, the wine is sweet with focused golden raisins, candied green apple, peach blossoms and honeycomb. The finish is voluptuous and velvety with a clean and long-lasting experience that exhibits an excellent focus and precision in winemaking. |
